Due North by Melanie Jackson

About Due North by Melanie Jackson:

Butterscotch Jones thought that living in the far north provided enough peril to contend with until a private plane crashed outside her hometown of McIntyre’s Gulch, Manitoba, Canada. The treasure inside the plane soon attracted both the RCMP and the Russian Mafia. For a town built upon isolation and secrecy, the citizens faced very public exposure.

“A light, fun read with an eccentric cast of characters who bring the village of MacIntyre’s Gulch to delightful life.”
–Lisa Cach, author of “Wake Unto Me”

McIntyre’s Gulch has long provided refuge to those needing to disappear off the face of the planet. Most donning red hair, the residents of the Gulch prefer to say to one another what little they have to say in a mish-mash of English and Gaelic. Unless conversing with Whiskey Jack in which the conversation is likely to just be a mish-mash. There’s comfort in the form of warmth, food and drink to be had at the Lonesome Moose, the downtown saloon and community meeting place that constitutes the bulk of downtown. There’s comfort in the knowledge that Big John will be opining vociferously from behind the bar on the latest news flown into town by the Wings with the night’s delivery.

Due North is the first book in Melanie Jackson’s bestselling Butterscotch Jones Mystery Series.

Featured Interview With Deena Goldstein

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’ve been creating art and writing since I can remember. I lived in Ohio for many years and then relocated to Arizona, where I love spending time with family, friends and my pup Cookie.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
A very close family friend began taking me on weekly library outings as a child. I fell in love with the heavy weight of a full bag books. I can remember my love of writing beginning in school as a 6 year old, when being given creative writing assignments. I’m fairly certain I was the only one in class who anxiously awaited the next assignment. I also had a sense of humor which I learned from my bigger-than-life father (no OK, Little Bird spoiler alerts!), so humor always played a role in my writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a variety of authors, genres and writing styles. I’m particularly drawn to strong characters who overcome challenges. I’ve ready so many books over the years, I don’t believe I can pinpoint one specific author that resonated with me. I will say, Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree, has and always will be a favorite – a universal message of selflessness, but to the point of personal detriment – interesting, and although a child’s book, speaks so eloquently to adults.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
OK, Little Bird has been an amazing journey. My father was a bigger-than-life character to all that knew him. He and I had an incredibly close relationship – fun, playful and he was always (along with my mother) my biggest fan and supporter. When his health declined, we became even closer as I began to navigate his mortality waters which I was unprepared to deal with.

Ok, Little Bird gives readers permission to laugh when laughter seems unsavory, feel when it’s difficult, and move through emotions that perhaps they’ve not dealt with. All done with joy and optimism. I hope readers will turn the last page feeling inspired and perfect just the way they are – as my father always made me feel about myself. That even in the worst of times, things can be ok.

I have wonderful Book Club Kits available that provide content for wonderful discussion – for those interested, please contact me for more information about what the kit includes.

Featured Interview With John Robert Cameron

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m from Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. We have most of the amenities of other towns, but it’s way, way colder. I was raised here and haven’t escaped… yet. Where would I go? Sudbury’s actually a pretty nice place, all told. I have degrees in History, English Lit, and Education. I write science fiction, though my three published novels are all very different. One is dystopian drama, one is Canadian-flavored satire, and my most recent is high-brow sci-fi, driven by our pop culture within a utopian future.

I have a hairless Sphynx named Carmen. She’s mean but full of personality.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My school librarian introduced me to the Choose Your Own Adventure series when I was in grade two. I was knocking off full-length Star Trek: The Next Generation novels by the time I was 8. In a single night. I tried crafting a novel in my late teens, though I never got around to finishing it. I took a more serious approach in my late twenties after I’d done a little living. That whole ‘doing stuff’ thing apparently helps with creativity.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I don’t do much reading these days. The ‘authors’ I read today are called ‘reporters’ and ‘columnists’. Nonetheless, I grew up a sci-fi junkie. My writing is inspired by the ills of society, and the bright corrective visions I have. I’m striving to make right what once went wrong… Wait, sorry – that’s from Quantum Leap.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Eons from now, humanity has spread throughout the Universe to its very ends, quelling every last star system. But the introduction of a prophesized wildcard puts all utopia on edge. Enter Final Gamer is a pop-culture-driven tale of Science Fiction and High Drama, with even higher stakes.

“…life was purely what people made of it, without the distraction of potent, random influences. It’d been the endless, shining, gleaming, flashing interior of a pinball machine; all glitz and glamour: one without a nefarious pinball banging around, cracking the inlays and wearing out the bumpers… that life was taken from everyone when the Final Gamer entered the scene.”

Featured Interview With Lucille J. Knight

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in the state of Alaska and lived there for almost 20 years. I currently live in Missouri with my husband and our two Australian Shepherds, Ham and Bean. Okay fine, it’s only fair I mention the lazy house cats, Scooter and Ziggy, too!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
The first book I remember really loving was Dragonheart by Charles Edward Pogue (there’s a movie by the same name) when I was about 9 years old. I used to sleep with it under my pillow, I carried it in my school bag everywhere I went. My mom had always read to me growing up, a chapter or story before bed was customary, but Dragonheart was the first one I read on my own. Not long later I fell in love with Star Wars and became a voracious reader. Even into adulthood my mom and I still read together, except it was me reading to her.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’ve read a lot of Star Wars books (less so in recent years). My early writing was heavily influenced by Star Wars. I was reading adult level fiction in grade school because I just couldn’t get enough Star Wars! As I matured I broadened my tastes, discovered J.R.R. Tolkien and had my mind blown. Tolkien has been another huge influence to my writing, alongside Mercedes Lackey, Kevin J. Anderson, and Robert Jordan. Despite being a die hard Star Wars fan, my favorite genre is Fantasy and Paranormal. I’m not sure I could ever wholly jump into Science Fiction, though I do have an appreciation for it!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My debut novel is Hexen Blood: Damnation. It’s a sensual, action-filled, adult book set in England at the turn of the 19th century. The premise is a classic “vampire meets girl” with a twist in that the girl, Eve, isn’t as ordinary as she thinks. There’s something supernatural about her that even a centuries old vampire like Alucard can’t easily figure out.

When I started writing it I didn’t have much of a plot in mind. I began with a stormy scene, a wounded vampire, and a naïve young woman; the story evolved from there! At one point I had to take a pause to figure out the end goal, which lead to me going back to the beginning and adding about four chapters worth of content to better flesh out the overall story. I wanted to make sure that I built a foundation for Alucard and Eve to trust one another before launching into the main plot.

Depicting their different kinds of strength was important to me as well. Eve is demure and a bit of a push over at first, but she has a power with words and presence, she understands people, and as her supernatural abilities develop her insight becomes sharper as well. Alucard on the other hand is physically strong. He too has presence but it’s the sort that covers your heart with sheer terror, contrasting Eve’s more subtle, womanly aura. There are situations where Alucard’s brute force is necessary and other times when Eve’s gentleness prevail.

A Recipe for Magic by K. C. Lapointe

About A Recipe for Magic by K. C. Lapointe:

When they touch, it’s magic. The only problem is, he doesn’t believe in magic. What’s a witch to do?

Trixie Tompkins is a witch with a simple dream: to make Moonbrook a little sweeter with the treats she enchants at her mentor’s bakery. But when Magda passes, she leaves everything to her grandson, Rafe. Trixie’s girlhood crush, who moved away years ago.

Now he’s back, and distractingly hot, and his touch sends magic tingling through her skin. Which makes no sense, because he doesn’t even believe in Moonbrook’s magic anymore.

And if Trixie can’t change his mind, he’s going to sell to the highest bidder.

Rafe Greensbury didn’t expect his estranged grandmother to leave him everything, but she did. Including some property that a client of his architectural firm would love to develop. The catch is, he has to stick around Moonbrook for a few weeks.

Which means more time with his gorgeous childhood friend Trixie. Great, except when they touch, delusions that took years to forget come flooding back. So he probably shouldn’t have asked her to show him around. Or suggested that she might convince him not to sell.

Especially since the deal is already as good as done.

Irish Doctor’s Valentine by K.C. Crowne

About Featured Book: Irish Doctor’s Valentine by K.C. Crowne

It’s a docuseries about your career as an OB/GYN, they said.
Your personal life won’t be filmed, they said.

They lied.
Dr. Casanova. That’s the ridiculous name I’ve been given.
Now my days are filled with suggestive grins
And flirtatious winks from my patients.
It’s all a distraction because I’ve got my sights set one beauty.
Amelia’s luscious curves are all I can think about. I want to make her mine.
It’s a good thing I’ve mastered the female anatomy…
Cause it’d be a sin not to worship every inch of her.
But Amelia is clever – she’d never go for the “playboy” she works for.

Get ready Cupid…
This Valentine’s day, I’m on a mission to kiss away all of Amelia’s wounds.
And prove that my touch is just what the doctor ordered.

Featured Author A. G. Fleury

Author A. G. Fleury

Featured Interview With A. G. Fleury

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a Canadian author who was born and raised In Cornwall, Ontario. In 1993, I moved to Ottawa(the nation’s capital) and lived there for 5 years before moving to Kelowna, British Columbia(Western Canada). To this day, I still reside there…surrounded by mountains and a warmer climate. My common-law wife and I own 4 cats; with that many pets, it’s never a dull moment. Two are gluttons, one is finicky as heck, and the fourth one demands a lot of affection.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Although I read only a small handful of books in my teen years, I did not begin my fascination with them until my mid-twenties. It happened like this. A friend of mine introduced me to the right book as he said it at the time. He then lent me his paperback copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. He commented: “I’ve heard you talk a lot about your childhood memories of playing in the forest and walking along railroad tracks with your neighbourhood friends. I thought you’d like reading this story.” I did. I plowed through it and enjoyed it immensely. Afterwards, I borrowed The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by the same author. From then one, I began reading more regularly. As far as my writing history as an author goes, I began in September, 2017. That first story is still in its first rough draft stage but it is complete.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Among my favourites are authors such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, H.G. Wells, and Mitch Albom. Favourite genres include horror, suspense/thriller, science fiction, and spiritual/inspirational(specifically books by Mitch Albom). Stephen King and Dean Koontz inspired me to write suspense stories. Just like reading, as an author who also writes now, the imagination of the mind goes off on a journey… a lot of times without a map just to see where that path leads to.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The idea for this story began with a “what if…” scenario. What if every country in the world adopted the death penalty for murderers? How would that society function? Kill Per View is my second written story(fiction) and my first published one. It is a sci-fi/thriller/crime drama about the death penalty. The story takes place mostly in Toronto, Canada and set in the near future(years 2039 to 2050). Six murder massacres occur in six different countries within the same year where there is no death penalty. World leaders of those countries form a council in order to enact corporal punishment within their own countries and encourage others to join their cause. Ultimately this leads to the first, universal, worldwide death penalty. Herb Ferguson(protagonist) is a Corrections Manager at the Toronto prison. As the death penalty law mutates and gets amended over time, an American reality tv show, Kill Per View live streams legalized executions. The show becomes an instant hit and other countries begin to adopt it. The law eventually becomes amended to include criminals guilty of other violent crimes as well. Part way through the story, a serial killer appears and targets city executioners. Herb Ferguson eventually becomes Toronto’s executioner and feels safe due to his work designation remaining classified. It doesn’t matter. The serial killer already knows who and what he is. That’s all I can say for now without giving away any spoilers. This story took just a little over 6 months to write the first draft. I’m extremely satisfied with the finished, published novel and would like to thank Book Reader Magazine for this interview. Website is agfleury.com

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a poet, author and content writer currently residing in Kanpur, India. Well, I consider myself an inquisitive soul who’s seeking the definition of life, and everything coming in its way. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Literature. Being an introvert; my aura and art is often honed by inquisitiveness I follow in solitude.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have been into writing since four years. I believe you should always try to define yourself with your work, so it’s necessary to do what you love. Writing has always given my thoughts a patron. I believe art is something you can utilize to inspire and heal people.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As far as inspiration is considered: I believe it to be something that comes from within only but undoubtedly there are sages like William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, Robert Frost, WB Yeats, Rumi and Kahlil Gibran whom I look up to.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, ‘Mirror of Emotions’ shall take you on the erratic path on this journey of life and readers can expect an exhilarated persona of themselves disentangling the complexities they keep battling with. There are many issues addressed as it’s a collection of all that life encounters us with but things that needs to addressed in today’s world are definitely mental health and healing.

About a Relationship by Werner Langer

About About a Relationship by Werner Langer:

He didn’t know that his life of twenty-five years was about to be destroyed. He didn’t know that this great personal tragedy was the birthplace of a new life. Like a seed, falling on a fertile burned-out forest floor, this new life would change his entire world. He didn’t know that an invisible friend had been watching over him and protecting his life. He didn’t know that this loyal invisible friend would now take over his life and never leave him, rather provide him with incredible blessings. You didn’t know this, did you?

This book is filled with an adventure most of us would love to experience. His story is presented in one-hundred-and-eleven chronological short-stories, and this book reads like a novel. These are true events in the author’s life over the past thirty years, aimed at Christian readers. However, this book is also highly recommended for those who seek an engaging story and wish to escape from this world for a few hours.

Enjoy!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a committed Christian and A lover of the word of God. I have been a board member of J & Cli Links Consultancy Firm Ltd for over ten years. I have worked with Pastors, Leader of non-denominational Fellowships, Missionaries and other members of the Church Community to hold Church Services, Special Programs as well as organize Rural Rugged Evangelism Outreaches. Working with some of these people years ago, two Churches have been planted in two different Communities.
I have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy and have also taken a certified short course from London school of Hygiene.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books but I did not think of writing until I was about twelve. About then, an Uncle of mine published a pamphlet which showed me that I could do so too. Amusingly I just knew then, it would have to be a future ambition. So, the idea was kept for the future until it could no longer be kept. Consequently, about a year two months ago, my first book was published.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
So many Authors and books have influenced me over the years but I will mentions a few: Rick Joyner -the Final Quest, Rebecca Brown -the Unbroken Curses, He came to set the captives free. I have also been influenced by people who are writers of some sort but not regular authors; for example my Pastors and several Ministers that I have sat under.
Presently, I read Christian non-fiction.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My Latest book is titled “Dealing with Satanic Subtlety and Strategies” and it was inspired by real life experiences. In my walk with God I have seen the enemy at work against people –both in my life and in the lives of others. I have also seen the power of God intervene and variously set people-including people close – free; this happens in both the natural way as well as in the certain circumstances of spiritual encounters that make our natural lives seem so mundane. The power and place of prayers in all these was also inspiring in the writing of the book and other books that are to be published soon.
