This is the story of Donald, who becomes swept up in a battle between good and evil taking place long in the future in post-apocalyptic North America. Donald is flawed, beginning as a keeper of history, but is forced out into the world. He makes makes, causes tragedy for those he loves, but he never ceases seeking redemption. It is a tale of violence, love, faith, and redemption in a culture resembling the medieval past.It is an epic fantasy, but in a world much like ours. There is no magic nor fantastic monsters. But there is courage, evil, honor, and the chance to spend one’s life in a noble cause. Donald must find out whether he is worthy of the quest to save his kidnapped Rachel, who was captured due to his own mistakes. The Black Prophet’s armies are on the move, filled with hatred for the cities and towns of the rugged mountains and the plains to the East. Is Donald to become yet another victim, or is he, just possibly, the deliverer promised in prophecy? How could he make a difference in a war to shape the future of a continent? How could he find one small captive in a wilderness teeming with enemies?
Book is well written, and the author shows his command of the English language well. It also has an obvious Christian influence, in a way that is refreshing but not heavy-handed. It is obvious the author researched heavily into cavalry warfare from Medieval times, and the book “feels” very real. It is not a short read, but is worth the effort and sets up well for a sequel.
Review by Rob Ballister Military Writer’s Society of America
Reviews: A wonderfully told story of character, faith, and military action set in the future…which seems like the past! Harry James Fox scores with a unique story that blends the past with an apocalyptic future to produce an adventure of character, faith, and military action.– Rob Ballister Military Writer’s Society of America
The Stonegate Sword by Harry James Fox blends together everything a fantasy reader enjoys. The story takes place in the future but harkens back to the Middle Ages with warriors racing on horses and fighting in armor. There’s romance, action, humor, and even some religion. Fox displays adept writing skills, creating a novel that does not disappoint. –Red City Review
