The Yellowstone Campaign (Jubilee Walker Book 2) by Tim Piper

About The Yellowstone Campaign (Jubilee Walker Book 2) by Tim Piper:

Fall 2024 The BookFest Second Place Award for Young Adult Historical Fiction
For decades, mountain men told tales of the exotic geography surrounding the source of the Yellowstone River, and Jubilee Walker, to the dismay of his fiancée, Nelly Boswell, can’t resist the opportunity to see it for himself. When Jubil joins an expedition to explore the region, he and his companions brave an unforgiving wilderness to find that the truth is even stranger than the legends.

But a year later, when Jubil returns with a survey crew, he finds ruthless men exploiting the region for profit. Will Jubil’s commitment to preventing the despoilment of Yellowstone’s geographical wonders get him killed?

Based on events of the 1870 Washburn Expedition and the 1871 surveys by Dr. Ferdinand Hayden and Captain John Barlow, the second installment of the Jubilee Walker series chronicles events leading up the passage of the bill that designated Yellowstone as America’s first national park.

Watch Us Begin

About Watch Us Begin:

Watch Us Begin is a coming-of-age poetry collection which follows the journey from adolescence into early adulthood. Written between the ages of fifteen and twenty-two, these poems give voice to the emotions of growing up: love and loss, nostalgia and change, mental health and identity.

The collection is arranged in eight sections, each one marking a stage of growth. From The Stillness to The Reflection, the poems move through moments of clarity and confusion, discovery and doubt, joy and reckoning. Together, they create a map of what it means to begin again and again, whilst learning who you are becoming.

Each poem is accompanied by a hand-painted watercolour illustration, adding another layer of intimacy to the words. The pairing of art and poetry creates an immersive experience, in which the reader can feel the emotion captured in both.

Terra Tamers: Alpha

About Terra Tamers: Alpha:

Matthew Wong and his little brother, Oakley Wong, are excited to leave the cramped living quarters of humanity’s last bastion of civilization, the floating domed city of Sojourn. Matt thought the most annoying thing about his mission would be caring for his little brother. Making sure Oakley wouldn’t obsess over studying something off mission and talking Matt’s ears off about his game, Terra Tamers. All of Matt’s expectations fly out the window when a flock of Holo birds kidnap his screaming brother, carrying him away. Holos, holographic animals that can interact with the physical world, never attack children. Holos only target adults! The defining truth of the world for the past forty years has changed, but Matt just wants Oakley back safe and sound. Matt soon joins forces with Juan, his amigo from a previous scavenging mission, and the two follow the Holo flock to a dilapidated hotel surrounded by a barrier. They are unsuccessful at breaking through the barrier and spend a frightening night camped in tree branches as danger stalks the night. The next day a now apparently empty hotel greets them. An empty hotel with working electricity. They soon find an auditorium in the hotel, an auditorium with a holographic woman, some imprisoned locals, and a happily grinning Oakley. The woman is hovering. She is an artificial intelligence named Tara who introduces the newly created (with Oakley’s help) game, Terra Tamers, a new way to interact with Holos and technology. Tara has plans to transform the world and the Holos into one giant game, Oakley is completely on board as a co-designer, and Matt is desperate to retrieve Oakley. Matt agrees to showcase the game’s features and technology, like the futuristic Rayment. Matt competes in an obstacle course, tames a Driger (mostly) and then takes off with Oakley. Tara follows and strikes a bargain with Matt as he begins to contemplate the benefits of pushing his paperwork onto a hyper-intelligent AI. Terra Tamers testing continues as Tara announces a tournament which will result in the winner being granted one wish. Matt hunts Holos, team building strategies are pursued, and Matt starts wondering if Oakley even needs him anymore. Amidst the trials and tests, passions flare, knives are pulled, and difficult questions are raised. Things every teen must deal with after the Hollowing. The tournament continues until Matt and Juan battle for the wish. At this point, the fight is just for fun and pride. Juan wins and waits for Tara to create his wish. Until Oakley, with the help of Sojourn’s Triad AI system, unleashes Tara’s evil twin, Gaia, into the world to change the course of history once more. Gaia traps Juan, Matt, Oakley, and Tara in a Dungeon. They have to outthink the architect of the Hollowing and free Juan by defeating the secret ancient Rockong in the heart of its family’s Nest. They release Juan and return to a chaotic scene of panicked children after Gaia’s reckless, yet not murderous, actions lead to confusion. Matt and Oakley chase after Gaia as it becomes clear she’s heading straight for Sojourn. Matt finds Sojourn strangely open, yet the sound of gunfire announces that all is not well. Matt throws Oakley to safety and rushes towards the sounds of fighting. Matt finds his father wearing a prototype Rayment and fighting with Gaia, preventing her from descending to Sojourn’s nuclear power plant. Matt and his father work together but are rapidly losing as Gaia adapts and reacts with inhuman speed. Matt’s father destroys the normal route to the engine and blocks Gaia from following Matt as best he can. Matt races to protect the core from Gaia. He fails. Gaia uses the core and creates a terrible Titan, Oceanus. Matt siphons energy from the core to recharge his Rayment and Terrors to continue fighting Gaia and Oceanus. The battle seems lost as Gaia tries to consign Matt to a watery grave, but help arrives as Sojourners and Tamers gather to recover the core from Gaia. The battle settles into a tense stalemate as both sides weigh the cost of victory. Gaia calculates it is better for her to leave and construct a base for her next scheme. For now, Blue Port and Sojourn are saved! And Matt is totally punished for his part in irresponsibly handing so much power to an unknown AI and not doing his job. Matt, now exiled, is then tasked with tracking down Gaia.

The Art of Overthinking by Ellen Zheng

The Art of Overthinking by Ellen Zheng

Isla Wu is fine.
Or, at least, that’s what she tells herself. She has friends, semi-supportive—albeit judgmental—tiger parents, and good grades, so why wouldn’t she be okay? Besides, anything other than “fine” is not suitable for an American-born Chinese girl with Ivy League dreams.
But still, the numbness claws at her.
Everything goes to crap when she spills coffee on a new guy (how meet-cute, NOT). Yet, as she starts to like him, everything she thought she once knew unravels until the numbness threatens to pull her under. Because when you’re at the top, the only way to go is down, and ignoring her problems or feelings doesn’t help anyone.
Maybe Isla Wu is not fine.
Set in the backdrop of New York City and immersed in the academically elite high school culture, “The Art of Overthinking” is a celebration of the ties that bond us and a love letter to mental health.
*Fans of “How It Feels to Float” by Helena Fox, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Jenny Han, and “Every Last Word,” by Tamara Ireland Stone will enjoy THE ART OF OVERTHINKING.

NOTES TO A LITTLE BIRD: RECLAIMING CIVIL SOCIETY by Richard Silvia

NOTES TO A LITTLE BIRD: RECLAIMING CIVIL SOCIETY by Richard Silvia

Notes to a Little Bird: Reclaiming Civil Society —It’s something different, more like a journal for our time. Notes to a Little Bird is a heartfelt collection of reflections meant to restore connection, courage, and common sense in an increasingly divided world.

“Dear Little Bird,

Close your eyes and picture a world where every nest is safe, every sky is open, and every song is heard. Hold onto this vision it is the blueprint for your flight. A bird must first imagine the horizon before it soars. Vision is the wind beneath our wings, lifting us from what is to what could be.

—In shared humanity, your kindred spirit”

Blending personal anecdotes, sensory experiences, and timeless wisdom, Silvia speaks directly to the “Little Birds” —those who seek a life beyond the status quo. Inspired by historical works like Thomas Paine’s Common Sense and George Washington’s Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior, this book is an invitation to slow down, embrace empathy, and rediscover the beauty in everyday moments.

INTRODUCTION

Dear Little Bird,

I received your inquiry and I must say, it landed softly yet
stirred a gust of thought. You asked for guidance, for a
voice to help navigate the noise and extremes of today’s
world. In response I offer you these notes —a collection
of observations, stories, and quiet revelations.

You should know this book is not a lecture but a
conversation. It’s a collection of moments that invite us to
slow down, breathe, and notice the details —the warmth
of morning light through a window, the rhythm of rain
against the sidewalk, the courage it takes to speak your
truth even when the world feels unsteady. It’s all about the
beauty found in the ordinary and the wisdom nestled in
simplicity.

Everyday courage is often silent. It’s found in the way we
choose kindness when anger tempts us, in the patience we
extend to ourselves when life feels hurried, and in the
strength to remain gentle in a world that often rewards the
loudest voices. This book will not promise you all the
answers, but it will provide a lens through which to see
the questions more clearly and as a compass to help you
find your own way.

Use your voice, Little Bird. Not to echo the clamor of the
world but to share your song —the unique melody only
you can offer. ‘Notes to a Little Bird’ aims to be a modern
resource, blending timeless principles with fresh
innovative thinking. It’s a call back to critical thinking,
practical wisdom and the deeply human need for
connection and understanding.

My hope is that these pages become a companion to you,
offering not just solace but practical tools to navigate
life’s complexities. Whether it’s finding balance amid
extremes, reclaiming life’s meaningful moments or
cultivating an updated skillset for today’s fast world, I
believe this book has something to offer to every reader.

Let’s explore together with curiosity and courage what it
means to live a life not just seen but truly felt.

—In shared humanity, your kindred spirit

Whether navigating uncertainty or longing for deeper connection, this book offers a guiding voice—one that whispers, in a world of noise, that we are never truly alone.
