Dancing on Broken Ankles

About Dancing on Broken Ankles:

When sixteen-year-old Aubergine’s parents uproot her from the posh NYC life to live off-grid in a tiny home, she reaches out to the only person available for friendship—the boy-next-door.

Aubergine White, a talented ballerina and a self-professed mean girl, who enjoys all the advantages of being a gorgeous, rich girl at her elite New York City private school, seems to have it all, until her parents get fed up with the hustle of city life and whisk her a thousand miles away to homestead off-grid in Montana.

Soon after arriving in her exile from upscale fashion boutiques and classical theatre, Abs learns she needs a career-ending ankle surgery which leaves her completely devastated. She receives no empathy or guidance from her parents as her father is preoccupied with the on-going care of her mother’s mental health.

Aubergine’s life changes for the better when she befriends the neighbor, Fulton. Fulton was the biggest dork at her old school, but now that she is forced to spend time with him, she finds him to be kind, patient and most importantly, he shows her the compassion she had been missing. Just when she starts to trust him, a new wound is opened when Fulton finds a way to move back to New York. She becomes determined to get a one-way ticket back to the city and she is holding on to the hope that her old life—and her former boy next door—will be waiting for her when she gets there.

A clean and wholesome, coming-of-age story about close proximity enemies who become allies and then, maybe more . . .

Confession by Sarah Forester Davis

About Confession by Sarah Forester Davis:

When I was twelve, I met this boy. His life was the complete opposite of mine. He grew up on the beach with his single mom, spending his day surfing and wandering around Flagler in his swim trunks. I grew up on the Halifax with my callous parents, behind a gated driveway, wishing my life wasn’t already planned out for me.

I knew my parents wouldn’t approve of our friendship, so I spent two years sneaking over to his house, hoping at some point I’d have a say in how I lived my life.

When I was fourteen, there was an accident. As much as I wanted to keep him a secret, as much as I needed to see him every day, we were forbidden to ever see each other again. If I disobeyed my parents there would be consequences, ones that would destroy him.

Three years have passed, three years of watching myself waste away without him, sinking into a deep depression that I struggle to pull myself out of each morning. But then the unthinkable happens, his mom, she’s tragically gone and I find myself back in his life.

This connection we have can only be explained with one word. Soulmates. At seventeen, we are no longer innocent little kids. On the verge of adulthood our relationship has changed over time.

We need each other. We have each other. Our chemistry is undeniable.

But there are secrets that have suddenly become unraveled. There are mysteries that we find ourselves trying to solve. There are people who show up in our beach town, strangers who bring buried knowledge about the past.

We find ourselves thrown into the middle of a dangerous game that could cost us both of our lives, and there’s one simple fact that seems to shout out at us as each day passes.

There was a reason we were kept apart.

Confession. This is our story.

Legend of Mermaid Cliff (The Awakening Trilogy Book 1)

About Legend of Mermaid Cliff (The Awakening Trilogy Book 1):

After his crush’s mysterious death, a teen boy uncovers century-old dark secrets in his small town.

A sinister underworld of demons and angels is revealed in this YA debut.

Sixteen-year-old Mark Parker is devastated when he learns that his high school crush, Veronica McBride, has been found dead at the bottom of a cliff in their small beach town of Rockport. As the last person seen with the ill-fated girl, the town becomes suspicious of Mark and he swears to find the truth—but in doing so, he uncovers unearthly and evil secrets his town has been harboring for a century.

Until Veronica McBride and her family moved to the small beach town of Rockport, its citizens were all from the original bloodlines of the town dating back to it’s founding in 1917—the same year the suicides began and the legend of Mermaid Cliff was born. With a suicide mysteriously happening every twenty-five years, the legend went that a mermaid lured people to the edge of the cliff, and they were in such awe of her that they walked right over the edge, falling to their death. But legends are stuff of lore… or so Mark believed.

Mark thought he walked Veronica home after the big party the night before, but he can’t be sure since he partied a little too much. When snarky classmates accuse Mark of having something to do with Veronica’s death, his best friend Jason assures him that he saw those classmates—whom he calls the Seven—at the entrance of Mermaid Cliff that night as he was driving home. Trouble is, the Seven includes Mark’s older brother, Charles. When the FBI’s Agent Amelia Taylor arrives, it’s confirmed that Veronica’s death was a homicide, and Mark, along with Jason, is determined to find out who’s responsible.

As Mark starts asking around, he’s collecting more questions than answers. His mother claims she was home but wasn’t. Old Man McGinty, who found Veronica’s body on the beach, has piles of newspaper clippings of the legend’s tragedies…along with a charm from Veronica’s bracelet. Even the FBI agent has a strange connection to the town through her own tragic circumstances.

“Don’t believe everything people tell you, boy,” the old man tells Mark. “Everything in this town is connected in a way you or I will never fully understand…”

Jason and Mark come to realize that their town is full of dark secrets, and their poking around is unveiling them one by one. “Loyalty. We may be connected to the rest of this world by land, but we have our own traditions and secrets we keep to ourselves,” his mom said mysteriously. “Some secrets are better kept secret…” Soon, Mark will learn of his own role in his town’s terrifying evils—and his destiny to stop it and put the legend to rest.
