Featured Interview With Ben Levin

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Lexington MA, though I moved to New York when I was ten, and moved to Montvale, New Jersey, in Bergen County, four years ago. I live with my parents and my brother, Jake, as well as a couple of mini-schnauzers, Stark and Sherlock.

I am also autistic, something I’ve struggled to embrace within myself. Today, having found self-acceptance, I want to inspire others on the spectrum to embrace themselves as well.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
It’s hard to remember a time when I didn’t love reading, or at the very least being read to. I started writing just before fourth grade, and by the end of that year, I had realized just how much I truly loved writing and that it was my calling. I’m going to be writing my entire life.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love reading about history and sports, as well as YA books about people who have gone through personal challenges. For example, I love the book Black Flamingo by Dean Atta. I also really enjoy children’s books and fiction. It took me years to be willing to give up chapter books that were more for elementary kids, and I think the reason for that is because these are the books that truly inspire my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, In the Hole, stars a young boy named David Kimball whose family falls into poverty after his father loses his job. When the family becomes homeless, they spend three and a half years in the hole, fighting against addiction, bullying, and serious illness. David struggles with school and sports and, along with his family, fights to hang on to hope. Reviewers have said that David’s story brings forth feelings of compassion and understanding.

Featured Interview With Dawn Marcotte

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Iowa, but have lived in Minnesota for the past 25+ years. One of the things I really love about where I live are all of the opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature all year long (yes even in the cold, cold winters.) I have gotten a chance to try a wide variety of new activities, including dog sledding and skijoring.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books, but when I was a child the only way to get a book published was through an agent with an established publishing house, so I never considered being a published author a career. Then when the internet arrived and Amazon started publishing books I realized I could follow my dream and write for a living.
The first step was creating content for the world wide web as articles and blog posts, then I did some ghost writing and finally started to write my own books. I just love to create informative, helpful books that other people can read to make their own lives better.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
While I write non-fiction books, my favorite books to read are mysteries, sci-fi and fantasty. I love Mercedes Lackey, J.A. Jance and Faye Kellerman. It is also a lot of fun to discover new authors, which I do through Kindle Unlimited.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My most recent book, Success Guaranteed 9 Lies Online Entrepreneurs Need to Know, is designed to help new and aspiring entrepreneurs better understand the realities of building a successful online business.
Many people who start a business have unrealistic expectations about how long it will take, how much money they will make and how much effort it will require. These expectations can cause them to give up. My book not only includes interviews from 20+ entrepreneurs, but actionable advice business owners can use immediately.

Featured Author Jim Riley

Featured Interview With Jim Riley

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in the cottonfields of North Louisiana, typical redneck country. In the fifth grade, my family moved to a suburb of Baton Rouge, right in the middle of the Cajun culture. We went from black-eyed peas to boiled crawfish.

I am now retired and writing full time. GumShoe, an imprint of Next Chapter, offered me a contract for sixty novels and short stories. I had written these while in federal prison with pen and paper. In the past year, I have transposed about thirty so far. I hope to finish the rest in the next twelve months.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved a mystery. Old television shows like “Murder She Writes” & “Columbo” were favorites growing up. The urge to create my own mysteries grew as I aged. Now that I’m retired, I can fulfil the desire to create stories that others will enjoy.

I am a pantser, meaning I don’t use an outline for my stories. I start with an opening scene and let the characters decide where to take the plot. In many instances, I don’t know which character will turn out to be the bad guy until the end. I let the characters define the pace and outcome of each story.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love John Grisham, John Stanford, James Patterson, Sue Grafton, Michael Connelly, Janet Evanovich, Stieg Larsson, Robert Parker, Jeffery Deaver, Lee Child and several others. While serving four years in prison, I read over 600 novels. The author who caught my attention was Lee Child & his Jack Reacher character. I thought he brought a new dimension to the mystery genre.

The other author I truly enjoyed was the late Sue Grafton. She made Lindsey Millhone come to life in a down-to-earth reality. I believe Sue was a genius.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I am in the middle of the Niki Dupre series, which consists of over twenty full-length novels and thirty short stories. Niki is a female private investigator in a male-dominated industry and society in South Louisiana. She is a Weapons Master in Kempo and uses this expertise in most stories.

She is assisted by an hour-glass blonde with a voracious appetite. Donna Cross can hack into any database in the world without leaving a trace.

The pair of ladies face the corrupt political environment embedded in the Louisiana culture as well as traffickers of drugs, sex and counterfeit money.

The novels took me about three weeks each to write and the short stories about four days. I wrote them on yellow paper pads and now am in the process of transposing them to computer text. I have arthritis and use a voice recognition software. With my redneck accents, it’s frustrating and sometimes hilarious how the system interprets my words. Needless to say, much editing is required to fix these errors. It is taking me longer to transpose and edit the works than it did to write them.

Featured Author Karin Freeland

Featured Interview With Karin Freeland

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m married and mom to two amazing boys (10 & 11), who have gotten quite the education during the book writing process. I think we’ve all said the word vagina at the dinner table more in the past year than in our entire lives prior to that put together. We recently traded in the hustle and bustle of suburban N.J. life for a quieter, less stressful, existence in gorgeous Greenville, S.C.. When I’m not working on the book launch, I’m coaching women to help them transform their lives and bring their dreams to reality. It’s by far my the most rewarding career I’ve ever had. I’m also really into working out and staying healthy. My friends joke that I wake up at 3 am to work out and I’m showered and ready to go by 4 am. In reality, it’s more like 6 am these days. My favorite workouts are yoga, online dance classes and Denise Austin workout DVDs. (I might be the only person who still does DVD workouts!)

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I think I’ve always enjoyed reading, but more so as a kid. It was a great escape for me. We didn’t have pets growing up so I seemed to gravitate to books with animals in them. For example, A Dog Called Kitty and Flowers for Algernon were among my favorites. I remember reading Where the Red Fern Grows and wanting to get a hunting dog. Can you imagine me at 10 years old alone in the woods at night trying to hunt racoons? Needless to say, my parents did not oblige and opted for a lab instead.

I had never pictured myself as a writer. My husband was joking with me one day during my pregnancy and noted how he thought I should write a book and call it, I Don’t Know My Vagina, because I was so clueless about how it worked. At first I dismissed the idea but then started brainstorming loads of stories and realized we had a book on our hands. That was in 2009! Unfortunately, life got in the way and I chose to focus on my corporate career. It wasn’t until I suffered a midlife crisis in 2019 that I decided to pick it back up and finish it. After a few people read what I had written, it was clear we needed to take it all the way and I hired a professional editor. From there, the rest is history (or should I say herstory?!).

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
It seems these days I mostly read business books and stories of empowerment (when I’m not reading Harry Potter with the kids). Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg, and Settle for More, by Megyn Kelly, come to mind. I love to hear what other women have been through and how they have persevered. While I used to crave an escape as a kid, I find now I prefer books based in reality. Their stories give me strength and encouragement when the road gets bumpy. Also, since my book was a comedy, women like Margot Leitman, Amy Schumer and Lisa Schwartz gave me inspiration to tell my story openly and incorporate as much humor as possible.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Ins and Outs of My Vagina: A Penetrating Memoir is an honest look at the journey to womanhood and exploring sexuality throughout the ages. I spent most of my teenage years being totally ashamed of my body and a good portion of my adult life feeling like I was broken sexually. It seemed like everyone around me was having a better sex life than me (not true at all!). Further, my lady parts were a total mystery to me – especially when I was preparing to have children of my own. I finally decided to share my story so that no woman would ever feel alone – whether dealing with an ectopic pregnancy or urinary tract infection. I wanted women to start getting comfortable with having seemingly taboo conversations and do it in a way that was comedic and cathartic at the same time. One of my favorite things about the book is the character of my vagina, who we naturally named V. To get through my trials and tribulations, I form a fragile relationship with her. Although, as you’ll find out, she may or may not have my best interests at heart.

Featured Author Tex Jerhand

Featured Interview With Tex Jerhand

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Paradise, in Aspen, in the Colorado Rockies, but my father, for work reasons, had to move the family to London.

Since then, returning to Heaven has become my primary target. As soon as I became independent and started a family, I moved back to Aspen, even though I own a business in London. Hence, I am often in both the UK and the USA.

Glad you asked me if I have pets. Few people ask me, yet it is one of my main sources of inspiration. I love when I come back to my home in Aspen, I am immersed in nature, away from the hectic life of London, in my garden, overlooking the mountains, and close to Francis, my beloved donkey. I gave that name because when I was a kid, I always watched the “Francis” talking army donkey movie series and had a lot of fun. My Francis looks a lot like him, he is playful but also spiteful. He is great for making me forget the stress of the city.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
The passion for reading began, like everyone, as a child. Above all, during the winter season, when it is raining and cold, there is nothing better than immersing yourself in reading your favorite book.

It all starts with what happened to me some time ago, when I finished my studies, opened my Advertising and Marketing agency, and was about to get married.

My obsession was: “I do not miss anything and soon I will have a family, I will have children, I will grow old … is that all?” I was looking for something in my life that was escaping me or that I was goddamn missing, yes… but what?

My story is a bit long, but I’ve summarized it on my website: https://www.texjerhand.com/the_author.html

I invite you to read it in full, I’m sure it will be fun for you.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As I am preparing some influential Career and Leadership books, I am reading a lot on these topics. I am dedicating a lot of time to research, because the subject is delicate and I care a lot. I think they will be ready towards the end of the year.

I have just finished rereading the most important books on the subject. One of them is “Wooden on Leadership” by John Wooden & Steve Jamison. I am currently finishing reading “On Becoming a Leader” by Warren Bennis, then moving on to “Primal Leadership: Unleashing the Power of Emotional Intelligence” by Daniel Goleman, Richard Boyatzis & Annie McKee and then ending with “Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t “by Jim Collins. In the meantime, I compare it with the notes that I have jealously written all the way down in a notebook and, apart from I add other reflections on the subject of “concepts not to be forgotten”, which will outline the next books that to publish.

One of all that I would like to mention who made me think about the problems of managers to realize new ideas that work, is Dr. W. Edwards Deming, who became famous in the seventies for helping Japan with innovative and high-quality products. Other authors who have written self-worthy and interesting information on various topics that I have been able to read are: Dr. Daniel Amen, psychiatrist and specialist in brain disorders., Dr. Bryan Vartabedian, Dr. Aimee Daramus, Dr. Barry F. Vaughan, Ph.D. Suniya S. Luthar and others.

As you can see, I read heavy books and lighter books, the important thing is to get the best out of each of them. No one has the absolute truth, and no one has understood everything on a subject. We can only pass on to others what has been useful and important for us, for our personal growth, but we cannot think that everyone benefits the same as us. We can learn valuable life lessons from everyone. Some more important, some less.

As for who inspires me to write, actually, I have refined a method. All my life I have been writing notes in a notebook, very detailed and so chaotic that now I can hardly even reread it. Written in small print, even in the corners of the pages, sometimes the writing is mixed with arrows, symbols, and more that I will not tell you and the paper has turned yellow.

However, with difficulty and effort, I reread it, and reassembled it, and divided it into topics. This facilitated me in identifying the solutions to the various problems encountered.

Later I did a lot of research which I then compared together with some of my collaborators, experts, and professionals in various fields.

This is to say that each book has its own story. The inspiration to write it comes to me above all when I return to my home, surrounded by nature, near my beloved donkey Francis, or on top of the mountain, I reread and reflect on my notebook. Every time I read it, I get inspiration for a new book. I mark the ideas and then develop them.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The first book in the “10 WAYS TO THINK” series is: “Take Control of Your Life: Achieve the Goal of a Fulfilling Life. Self-Acceptance to Get Mental Strength, Willpower, and Have Positive Stronger Relationships,” is the essence of self-help.

In the business world, it is essential to come up with new business ideas to stay competitive. It is perhaps more important than ever in today’s world. Sometimes it seems difficult because we have a lot more options today than we did a year or two ago.

In this second book in the series: “TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE… while drinking coffee. Test New Ideas, Transform your Habits and Awaken Decision-Making Power.” I mainly focus on Business Life.

The inspiration to write this book came to me reflecting on some events that have happened to me in my life and seriously reflecting on the true values that should distinguish every human being. I also thought a lot about sharing, social life, and the difficulties that every entrepreneur must face to be successful, both in business and in private life.

During the day, we make thousands of decisions every minute. We make most of these decisions without conscious reflection; instinctively or through responses learned as habits based on the experience of a lifetime. Unfortunately, these habitual decision patterns persist in the business world, so that owners react without thinking about changing situations without really thinking. Such behavior is not appropriate in the business environment, where change is constant.

The habits you create today influence your future. Your habits are your daily actions. Change your habits and change your way of thinking.

The secret of success is based on what you think of yourself, on how you consider life. Actual business leads you to be happy for having taken control of your life, not for being dominated by it and spending your days enslaved by it. The genuine change is in yourself because once you improve yourself then everything around you, including your business, will grow accordingly.

Courage will serve you to make the right decisions and make the changes, using fear for your goal, not as an insurmountable obstacle. It will be a fundamental step to take control of your life, knowing that to do so you must act immediately without delay and thus overcome indecision because knowing how to decide at the right time determines the success or failure of any business you are doing or about to start.

My goal in writing the book is to create a work full of tips and solutions already successfully tested, sometimes even very complex, making them understandable to everyone.

Rich in principles of life and human values, in just ten simple steps, with a direct and immediate language, “TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE… while drinking coffee.” it can help you change your private life and your business.

Just as I am finishing these lines, I am about to publish the third book in the series which in a sense completes and continues the second book, focusing on developing innovative ideas and how to thinking outside the box.

Featured Interview With Mark Shaiken

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Mark lives with his wife Loren and their dog Emily in Denver, Colorado. He hails from Queens, New York; New Hyde Park, New York; New Haven, Connecticut; Haverford, Pennsylvania; Topeka, Kansas; Manhattan, Kansas; Wamego, Kansas; Houston, Texas; Havertown, Pennsylvania; Kansas City, Missouri; and Fairway, Kansas. He schooled at Haverford College and Washburn University, and practiced commercial bankruptcy law for several decades before moving on in 2019 to his other endeavors. He is the author of “And . . Just Like That – essays on a life before, during, and after the law” and his new book, “Fresh Start,” a legal mystery. Connect with Mark at http://markshaikenauthor.com

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved reading as a kid. I started writing when I was in grade school and really enjoyed the process. It was hard to write during my years as a bankruptcy attorney as there was simply little time to dedicate to the process, but I did write two bankruptcy law books during my career.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Michael Connelly (any Harry Bosch book); David Balcucci; Ernest Hemingway. They all share several important characteristics: economy of words; great stories; rich characters. All critical in my view to the writing and creative process.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Fresh Start is a legal thriller starring Josephina Jillian Jones, 3J, an African American bankruptcy attorney at a large law firm in Kansas City, Missouri. The book is told in the third person and from the perspective of 3J’s real estate developer client – Quincy Witherman. Witherman hides assets from everyone, and thereby commits and felony. His banker – Stacy Milnes is a gruff, difficult person who must decide if she is willing to commit a felony to catch a felon. The book also takes place in revolutionary war America (in a 1798 debtor’s prison in Philadelphia), New York City, and London. The book trailer is here: https://youtu.be/FbYGqLqJDxI

A free first chapter can be downloaded on my website below. As well, the book is free for Kindle Unlimited members.

Fresh Start’s book blurb is as follows:

A secret family legacy becomes a ticking time bomb …

Skyscraper developer, Quincy Witherman, has continued his family’s two-hundred-year practice of hiding assets in Switzerland. Now, needing protection from his creditors, he hires bankruptcy lawyer Josephina Jillian Jones – 3J – but fails to disclose the Swiss assets to 3J, his bankers, the IRS, and the bankruptcy court … all felonies. 3J knows in her gut that something is wrong. So does Witherman’s banker, Stacy Milnes.

Will anyone catch Witherman?

Featured Author Jen Finelli, MD

Featured Interview With Jen Finelli, MD

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
In my mind, I was raised on Corouscant under the tutelage of a princess in white robes, but when I’m not bat-shyte insane I’ll admit I lived kind of all over the place, from Germany to Virginia to time with family in Japan, Canada, Denmark, and Paraguay. I’m a mixed race child of immigrants, so I’ve got kind of an “other”-ness about me that definitely informs my science fiction “aliens.”

I’m now stationed somewhere in the US with the military, with three emotional support animals actually prescribed by a licensed professional after some of what I’ve seen taking care of sexual assault patients and the dead. My “pets” are all birds: a conure, a lovebird, and a cockatiel. Because they comprehend language better than dogs do, but require a heavy level of gentleness because of their size, they’re perfect for emotional skills.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been reading since I was three with such fervor that my mom had to hide books from me. I originally hated writing as a kiddo; I wrote my first story about a salmon because my mom made me and I was interested in ichthyology. Yes, you may laugh.

The first time I tried to write a “book” on my own, I was nine. I don’t know if you’ve heard of the book “The Indian in the Cupboard” by Lynn Reid Banks? It uses a lot of language and cultural stereotypes that I think we’ve all learned to move beyond, but as a feature of its time it was a sweet story about a young boy’s friendship with a fictional First Nations person who travels through time in his cupboard. Banks’ idea of fiction reaching into the real world permanently marked me, and I can trace a direct line from that cupboard, to my first story about a magic Easter egg, all the way to my most recent indie book about a comic book character who shoots his author (BECOMING HERO).

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m an SFF person when I’m not studying real-world science and neat ways to “become a superhero” in real life–I read lots and lots of unusual nonfiction, partly because of my job as a physician.

The author who’s had the most direct influence on improving my writing is James Beamon, my mentor, editor for the professional publication ESCAPE POD, and former director of the SFWA. I hold that he is one of the best science fiction short story writers of our time, and I’m deeply honored to have him in my corner. I’ve read more of his stuff than anyone else’s lately just because of time pressures.

The author who’s had the most influence on my life, and philosophy of both writing and spirit, is C.S. Lewis. Kind of a cliche answer, but hey, sue me.

(Please don’t sue me. I can’t afford legal defense. Also, that would be a stupid reason to sue someone.)

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Ooh, NEODYMIUM EXODUS is literally my actual life’s work and purpose. Not even joking. Here’s the sitch:

Lem’s a mace-wielding teen space-ninja in a universe of sentient insectoids, purple jungles, and insane electromagnetic fields. She solves most problems by hitting harder, and never plays by her enemy’s rules – until Jared Diebol captures her.

Diebol’s the rising leader of an army uniting the galaxy by force. He believes the violent energy being Njande has “contaminated” Lem and her friends from another dimension, infiltrating their EEG signals to conquer the matter-based universe. The army usually kills contaminated people – but Diebol vows to cure Lem. When Diebol kidnaps Lem’s family, he forces her to choose between the matter beings she loves and the energy person she adores. If Lem rejects Diebol’s cure, her family dies – but if Lem cuts out Njande’s energy, she opens our universe to a much darker thermodynamic attack.

A blend of hard biomedical science fiction with multicultural fantasy, Neodymium Exodus combines the introspection of classics like Perelandra with the vibrant boldness of modern best-sellers like This Alien Shore and Space Opera. Took me over ten years to write, and it’s…hella weird and full of my actual scientific or military musings behind a heavy layer of angst and fun. You should totally read it if you like big worlds and crazy, sweeping, out-there ideas. You can get some free short stories in the world I think by preordering through the publisher’s website at Wordfire Press–you’d have to ask them.

Featured Author J. S. James

Featured Interview With J. S. James

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Carole and I get around. Minnesota, Utah, Tennessee, and now Washington. But my home state was Oregon, a great source from which to draw story ideas, settings and character descriptions. By the way, if you don’t know about Vizslas (a Hungarian pointing breed), you should. Our second is a real Lulu. Hence, her name (Lulu Longlegs). Once persecuted by the communists for being considered “the gift of kings,” these sleek red dogs are making a steady comeback. Though gorgeous and loving, our version is a mischievous tease and a relentless exercise machine.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with lying on paper began with oral story telling for a merit badge in the Boy Scouts, something about a burglar trying to escape the police from a bathroom window, only to get his foot stuck in the toilet. When I wrote grants to fund projects in Education, my colleagues suggested I was writing fiction, so . . .

My current work of fiction, RIVER RUN: A DELIA CHAVEZ MYSTERY, had its origins in my adventures and misadventures hunting and fishing in the Willamette Valley with my brother (you need to get dumped out of a boat only once to learn Nature’s fundamental lesson). Several years working with migrant families in the Yakima Valley provided a wealth of character development insight for the protagonist in this novel. She represents the grit and stamina of some of the most hard-working members of our society.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorites to read include Dana Stabenow (especially her Kate Shugak series), Tricia Fields, James Lee Burke, Lee Child, Robert Crais, Erica Ferencik (THE RIVER AT NIGHT), Donna Tartt, to name a few.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
RIVER RUN: A DELIA CHAVEZ NOVEL evolved over fifteen or so years from three stories (280, 000 or more words), and several completely different characters (one called The Riverine). Delia emerged as the obvious choice to tell this story, after a colleague shocked me with the simple question, “Who am I supposed to root for?” The result is summarized below:

Newly promoted sheriff’s deputy Delia Chavez has worked hard to get where she is. Without any family to speak of, law enforcement is all she has. But just a few days into her new job, Delia finds the body of a hunter washed up on the bank of the Willamette River missing his trigger finger. Soon, more bodies are found–all hunters without their trigger fingers. Waterfowl season often means clashes between hunters and animal rights activists, but could someone be killing to make a statement? Petrified, but invigorated by the opportunity, Delia dives head first into the case. Soon, she catches a whiff of something foul and it’s not the dead bodies–man or bird.

What starts off looking like a simple case of a ruthless vigilante quickly devolves into something much more complex. Facing evasive killers who stop at nothing to conceal their crimes, Delia must bring the criminals to justice because everyone knows, if you’re not the predator, you’re prey.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
very very young. I used to write these little books illustrated with stick figures (I can’t draw).

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like historical fiction, but I’ll read anything if it’s well written. Mary Renault, Flavius Josephus, Hilary Mantel

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My debut novel was published with the Conrad Press in December 2020, The Lost Wisdom of the Magi, which is a finalist in the Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Awards for ‘Best Historical’. It’s set during the 1st century Jewish Revolt and contains a lot of fanciful stuff from Christian and Jewish lore. Not to mention real magical recipes from history (those we haven’t lost).

Featured Interview With Clifford Benjamin

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
After the military, I came home and got into being the town’s drunk, drinking a gallon of spirits when I would out on the town. I continued until I decided to take control of my life and began to write novels one after the other for a period of twenty years. To date, I managed to eke out 16 books losing two finished manuscripts when my computer crashed. That did hurt a bit, but happily I’m still hanging in there, I have come too far to turn back now. Way I look at it, I am blessed to be still here enjoying shooting the breeze with anyone willing to give me their ear. It’s been a long journey madness to gladness. I now know one can do most anything he/she put their mind to. Life is full of surprises, if one stays focused success is just around the bend. All you have to do is be willing to go for it.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
At the age of 22 I became fascinated writing. After a stint in the military in Germany, I wrote short stories for Readers Digest which was to no avail I gave up writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are James Baldwin and Tennessee Williams – “The Old Man and The Sea. Throughout my life time I read over 500 books, high-lighing every single one to put focus on the semantics of writing. When I am writing, I also take notes of comments people make whether I’m at the doctors or at the VA Hospital especially listening to Shows like JOY on the Reid-out. That’s helps greatly. Plus, I get into the main characters heads. At that point, I am enthralled and makes writing more intriguing and encouraging me to push on and on. And there the literary terms. That’s like another world of knowledge. I don’t have enough room here to put all the things I use to perfect my writing. If you are interested in writing, I say go for it. Don’t forget to add in a good editing program. Also the Thesaurus, synonyms and antonyms, etc. Good luck.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
There’s not enough room to even began to describe the ramifications of my new book “ZOMBIE.” To put it directly, Hitler and guys like Robert E. Lee were Zombies. I’m talking about the ones that suck your blood, no way, I talking about the type of two legged creature that don’t a damn about humanity.
The kind that cares about themselves. They promise you the moon and leave you destitute or worse. To top it all off, America just escaped the clutches of a mad president that was the biggest ZOMBIE since Hitler, his supporters were his slaves willing to give their lives for him. Talking about crazy. That’s sheer madness. We sane people have to be on our guard against them and keep a watchful eye out, for all of them wants this democracy to crumble and for this nation to become autocratic. So we must be watchful, there still is the chance America might be overrun with ZOMBIES. It’s true and downright scary. Next time you are out shopping and someone demand you take off your mask, well there you have it, you just were accosted by a you=know-what– zombie.

Featured Interview With Jane Harvey

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Jane Harvey is a pen name (my birth name is Dreena Collins, and I write literary short stories under that, as well). I was born and raised on the island of Jersey, in the Chanel Islands, which is just 9 by 5 miles! I stayed in Jersey until I left to go to Wales for University – and then remained in Wales for my postgrad and to work, until I retrained as a teacher and returned to the island at the age of 28.

I live with my partner and teenage son. My husband and I married in 2021 after ten years together. We also have a white Lhasa Apso called Sherman who is definitely a character! A mix of headstrong, moody, unpredictable, affectionate and hilarious.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always loved reading as a child and when I started to read novels (around age 9 or so) I remember the fascination with the concept of stories that could last for days on end; that led to a spate of my writing dire, rambling stories in my childhood.

During my degree, I selected creative writing as an option and that really motivated me – I was published in a couple of periodicals around that time. But as time went on, my writing became more sporadic until three years ago, when I decided to truly commit to writing and set myself targets for how much I would complete – an ambitious target of one short story a week. I didn’t quite reach my goal, but I didn’t do badly…

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have very diverse tastes, depending on my mood. I enjoy much contemporary fiction from chick lit to literary, as well as psychological thrillers and mysteries. As long as characterisation is strong, I don’t mind! My favourite author is Margaret Atwood, but I also enjoy people such as Marian Keyes.

I adore nineteenth century literature such as Jane Austen and then the Brontë’s, and don’t mind admitting that I will re-read these for comfort. The changes in women’s circumstances over those decades are amazing. I have referenced a few of the classics in The Landlord of Hummingbird House – and I hope I have turned a few of the tropes associated on their head.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Landlord of Hummingbird House is about April, whose latest relationship has failed so she is forced to rent a flat and start again, aged 32. There are a number of diverse and quirky tenants in the building who have become friends and are very loyal. April makes assumptions about them, that are slowly unravelled, as a mystery comes to light and then is solved.

This novel grew out of a short story I wrote about two people who lived close by but kept missing each other. The reader knew of them both and had hints that they would be what each other needed, if only they could meet. The Landlord of Hummingbird House is different because the tenants are constantly meeting and interacting, but it is also based on people coming and going, and because the book tells different chapters from different points of view, the reader has the benefit of knowing that they could help each other, or perhaps that they might befriend each other, if only they know. It is about first impressions, and how they can be wrong if we make snap judgements.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the far southwest corner of Virginia and grew up there in a small town of 2500 souls. I now split my time between Milwaukee WI and Sarasota FL In between I lived for awhile in Cincinnati OH and Chicago…so a real mash-up of small town meets big city and settles in two places that border water. All of that has influenced my journey as a writer.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I kept diaries as a kid and was always telling stories or making up little plays. I have had a lifelong love affair with books–not just reading them, but the sensory pleasure of running my finger along a shelf filled with them, or opening a new book for the first time–the smell of the ink, the feeling of a new adventure about to begin. Of course, these days nothing beats the arrival of my own published work–that moment when I look at the cover and see my name and know I did this.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a lot of new authors for the two book clubs I’m a member of. I prefer historical fiction, but also read contemporary fiction. Most recently I finished Kate Quinn’s THE ROSE CODE and Emily St. John Mandel’s THE GLASS HOTEL. Over the course of my career I have been inspired by many–Jodi Picoult, William Styron, Wallace Stegner, Anna Quinlan to name a few.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
MONICA’S WAR is the fictionalized story of the life of Monica Beresford Wichfeld. Born in Great Britain, she later married a Danish aristocrat and moved to his familial estate south of Copenhagen. To use Monica’s own words, she lived life “at full gallop without apology or regret” through two world wars, the near financial loss of her husband’s estate, raising three children, having a love affair lasting over a decade with her husband’s full knowledge, and eventually joining the resistance to fight the Nazi occupation of her adopted homeland.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in a small town in Southern Indiana known as Elizabethtown, a farming community founded in the 1830’s, with a population of less than 250, as per the 2010 census. I spent two years in the military, signing my contract at 16, and officially enlisting at 17. I traveled from Fort Jackson, South Carolina; to Fort Gordon, Georgia; to Fort Campbell, Kentucky; to Oak Grove, Kentucky; to Bakersfield, California, to Paris, Tennessee, to Versailles, Kentucky, I’ve recently moved back to Indiana, where I can pursue bookwriting more vehemently.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My very first poem was written at 11 year old. Everyone who read my piece was dumbfounded, and claimed that I have a gift for writing. My first book was originally written in 2014 as a school thesis covering the topic of creationism. I later edited and revised my old work in 2017, and published it in August of 2020.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite author is Edgar Allen Poe, I love his works! I’m a huge fan of scraping the sugar coating off of things and seeing the world for what it truly is. In other words, I’m a realist, which could perhaps be the reason for my fascination with philosophy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, entitles: “Shambles,” is part one of a multi-part series of memoirs that, when read in chronological order, constitute an autobiography.

Featured Interview With Shereen Thor

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I went to Temple City High School and attended Pasadena Nazarene Church. I currently reside in Los Angeles, Ca. I am married to a mid-western dude and have two kids. I would regularly run off to “write for the weekend” which saved my sanity during the pandemic.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was young I used to love thrillers, anything that scared the hell out of me was my jam. When I was 25 I went on a 6-week road trip in an RV across the USA. I read eight books and was hooked. I was able to detach from the hustle and bustle of regular life and give myself the gift of time. I used that time to read, and fell in love. When I was 27 I had failed at entrepreneurship and had to go back to work full time in sales. On the 4th day of my training, I had an entire night of insomnia where I was haunted by the thought, “What If I live a mundane life and never write a book.” This was what made me realize that I needed to do this in my lifetime.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I typically read self-help because I’m obsessed with getting better at life lol. But I also love to be entertained. My friend Kristin Geise wrote a book called Unverified that I loved. I tend to like authors who cuss, and get straight to the point, and help me get over my own BS. So Mark Mansen, Tim Ferris, Jen Sincero.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
It’s called Revolutionary Woman: Break the Rules, Live Your Purpose and Find Your Happy. It’s a bit of history, a lot of self-help, tons of humor, and full of real talk. It was written to help women get over their own mind trash that keeps them subjugated in their own lives. We tend to think we need to stay small and remain unthreatening. This means we get paid less, let people treat us poorly, and just generally take too much shit. My book is meant to light a fire under their asses and help them stand up for themselves more so that they can live a fulfilled and happy life.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Florida, growing up as a Navy Brat. My families travels ended in Albuquerque, NM, in 1971. I’m still living in the Land of Enchantment enjoying the local cuisine and wide variety of wilderness available here. I consider myself a native and have no plans or desire to move anywhere else.
My dog, Crock, is a husky Basset/Dachshund mix. I call him my whack-a-do. He is very stubborn with a big heart. As far as training goes we’ve come to an understanding we both are happy with. But Crock is a great dog and my best friend, after my wife of course.
I enjoy my time with my wife, children, and Crock. When I am not camping or writing, I enjoy playing board games in the evenings with my wife and daughter. Every few weeks, I play Dungeons and Dragons with my son, younger brother, and friends. When the extended family gets together we make delicious food, play cards, enjoying each other’s company and catch up with our busy lives.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was younger I read books like the Hardy Boys and required reading for school. My fascination with books started to gain ground in high school. Finding science fiction and fantasy books in my teenage years.
I started writing seriously this year. My wife convinced me to write about camping, something I have tremendous knowledge in. Now I have two books out on Amazon, KDP and Audible. Before that I wrote in my daily journal, and free writing journal. I still write in my journal, and free write every morning.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite author is Issac Asimov. The next favorite is JRR Tolkien. These authors should give you a hint as to my favorite genres, sci-fi and fantasy. I enjoy reading these genres, sparking my imagination.
For inspiration I have to go with Jerry B. Jenkins. I’ve been listening to his YouTube videos on writing. They are very informative helping me in my quest to become a better writer. I have some of the same habits as Jerry. I get my morning routine done, taking about three hours. Afterward, I sit down and write with a clear mind, focused on the book. Once I sit down to write I’d rather not get up, keeping my mind on the book. And just as inspiring is Maia Szalavitz who wrote Unbroken Brain. Her attention to detail and unrelenting style of writing inspired me to always do more research and provide my readers with comprehensive information. I picked up her book to do research on addiction, and was drawn in by her writing and format of information.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Forty years of camping experience became the inspiration for both of my books. As a new author, this gave me a great starting point.
The first book’s title is Campground Hound Follow the Hound with a Leash to Happy Camping Beginning Your Camping Adventures. This book was written with beginning campers in mind. Giving them a solid starting point to their camping experience. With easy to follow steps for successful camping.
The name of the latest book is Campground Hound Follow the Hound to New Adventures in Camping. Inspiration for this book came in the form of a progressive idea. After following the Hound to beginning camping, you can follow the Hound to other adventures.
There are nine different types of camping in book two. Including chapters on first aid, backpacking, Dutch oven cooking, and minimalist camping.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I started writing stories back in kindergarten. Most were about ferocious beasts, knights, and brave explorers. I guess those tropes have stayed with me. I still enjoy writing fantasy/adventure, but now I’ve added a bit of humor into the mix.
I grew up in Forest Hills, and now I live with my family in Astoria NY. We also had pets. I had a cat when I was a kid. Now we have a cat and a dog.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Even as far back as Kindergarten, I knew I wanted to be a writer. My artwork was pretty crummy, but I wrote pretty good stories.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Kurt Vonnegut, Terry Pratchett, T.C. Boyle, Terry Brooks

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Quest For the Box is my latest book. It is the second book in my Nebilon Series. A giant blue egg hatches and out pops this baby dragon which causes a heap of problems for Archmage Harberk. He calls upon Luma to tame the beast. She has helped him about before, but this dragon is a handful. She starts to bond with it, and then she starts to have her visions. She is a Seer, and when she has her visions, she is usually pulled into action. Eventually, she finds this mystical box, but when she falls under its spell. Nobody in her party can rescue, so Luma has to dig deep to break the spell. I don’t want to give out any spoilers, so you have to see what happens to her and the fate of Nebilon.

Featured Interview With James Tyler Ball

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
As well as being a writer I’m also a music producer who goes by the name, Low-Res Royalty. I make Lofi Hip-Hop and funk music, and I’ve been relatively successful. Though, some of that success with my recent releases could probably be attributed to my studies at the British & Irish Institute of Modern Music in Bristol. However, I’ve taken a break from music production this year to focus on my passion for writing, and to answer the question, what is Breatharianism? I’ve always had a strong interest in the esoteric and in outlandish ideas, and the airheaded world of Breatharianism is perhaps the strangest practice I’ve ever come across. When I came across the practice, I knew instantly that I had to explore it further, and thus my journey began. After a hiatus from the literary world, my love for writing and investigation was ignited.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve written for as long as I can remember. When I was a small child, around the age of seven I think, I would write my own comics. There was one comic in particular that I always remember quite vividly: Mr. A. It was about a business man who could plug a USB into his belly button and download whatever superpowers were available online. I eventually took the character, Ed Stone was his name, and adapted it into a novella when I was a teenager. I never properly published it, however. And it took a much darker turn. It was called, The Adventures of Mr. A: The ‘A’ Is For Alcoholism. This time, instead of downloading superpowers, Ed would take LSD and see himself as a superhero. I’ve never really stopped writing since. Sure, I took some time out to focus on my career as a music producer, but the want to write was always there. It was until I started to properly read and discover my love for books, that I developed a real understanding of what it takes to write a book. Embarrassingly, it wasn’t until the UK COVID-19 Lockdown of 2020 that I really got into reading. Once I found Jon Ronson, that was it. I now read a book a week – I spend so much money on books that I had to buy myself a Kindle so as not to keep rinsing my bank account.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a lot of Jon Ronson and investigative journalism books. The Men Who Stare At Goats and THEM: Adventures With Extremists by Jon have been great inspirations to me, and I don’t think the idea for Don’t Hold Your Breath would have spawned had it not been for those books. Recently, however, I’ve found myself reading a lot of travelogues and memoirs like Tuk Tuk for Two by Adam Fletcher, and Girlvert by Oriana Small. I’m a big fan of Richard Ayoade too.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Don’t Hold Your Breath: The Airheaded World of Breatharianism documents my journey and exploration of the practice. I meet several Breatharians, all with differing and wild beliefs and views about the practice. Some believe in telepathy, time travel and the existence of three Earths. Perhaps the most unbelievable claim I came across during my time with Breatharianism, is that McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meals can help to transport you through inter-dimensional space. And so, after talking extensively with the Breatharians, I attempt to answer the question, can McDonald’s send you to space? There was really no other way for me to answer this question than to try and ascend through space, to another dimension, by following a McDonald’s meditation method I was taught. The answer to the may seem like an obvious no, but there’s a lot more to it. Some strange things happened to me throughout my time with the Breatharians.
