PaulaFeatured Interview With Paula Wynne

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in South Africa, spent many years in the UK and my husband and I have now fulfilled a life-long dream to live in Spain!

I’m an award-winning entrepreneur who day-dreams up new plots while walking through the Andalusian countryside with my springer spaniel, Dexter. The Grotto’s Secret, is my début novel after two best-selling business books, Create A Successful Website and Pimp My Site.

Along with Dexter my house is also home to his 4 sister cats, Daisy, Minny, Tiger and Socks.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My life-long dream to be a novelist has come true thirty-five years after I first decided I would be one. Harbouring a near-obsessive love of learning the craft of writing, I have been scribbling down the stories in my head ever since I can remember.

At the age of eighteen I used my first South African pay-check from the Natal Mercury to buy a long-distance writing course. Many years later I received an ‘Honourable Mention’ in the 75th Annual Writers Digest Writing Competition for two novels (written and not yet published), which inspired me to continue writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
So many it is hard to even know where to begin! I love the old classical authors and started out reading Enid’s Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. They probably gave me a taste for adventure and thrilling mystery. Over the years I have read different genres but as I love reading thrillers and action adventure, I started writing in that genre.

I’ve just finished a book by Graham Brown and another by Boyd Morrison. I have Steve Berry, Scott Mariani, Simon Toyne, James Rollins, JF Penn and Dean Crawford all waiting to be read! Phew … who has time to write when there is so much great reading to be done.

‘The Power of One’ by Bryce Courtney stands out amongst a pile of best ever books. I also love books by Dean Koontz and Scott Mariani and Glenn Cooper. I read and re-read most of Wilbur Smith, but wouldn’t include his latest books as they’re just not him. My childhood favourites were definitely The Famous Five.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is The Grotto’s Secret; it’s a historical conspiracy thriller, with added mystery, suspense and a little bit of romance thrown in!

Moving to Spain fulfilled my lifelong dream to write novels. During the hunt for our new home in rural Andalusia, my husband and I found a tranquil home with stunning views down the Valle del Guadalhorce towards Malaga and Marbella.

Apart from a white-washed village in the far distance, the valley is lush with green wheat fields and rolling hills, shadowed by layer upon layer of distant mountains. The magnificent Sierra del Torcal towers over the back of the house. My first sight of the Guadalhorce Valley gave birth to the fictional location of The Grotto’s Secret.

As I gazed at the stunning view, a medieval character just popped into my head and I could see her in that landscape. She was so real and had a story to tell. It’s taken a couple of years to get her story into the real world but it’s been such a great journey!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in the South, most notably in Tennessee and Mississippi. I attended a school for the Creative and Performing Arts and so I have always been a Writer/Director. In school I studied Theater and Literature. Writing classes came after I moved to North Carolina. I lived in the mountains there for over a decade. I wrote constantly. Now I live in an incredibly urban area in Pittsburgh. The buildings are old and intriguing. Even though it is in the city, I still have bunnies and chipmunks and deer in my yard. It is magical. I have a dog I rescued five years ago named Foxy Roxy. She’s a total brat and very smart. I am also a chinchilla girl and I have one rescue chinchilla named, Ida Belle, after a character in the Truman Capote novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms. I have a cat I found living in the woods in Gettysburg named Gatsby and another cat named Huxley. Obviously they are named after the Great Gatsby and Aldous Huxley. You can see that my literary background informs my name choices. They are all unique and special snowflakes and if you follow me on Instagram, I occasionally take photos of them and post.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was three years old someone bought me a stack of preschool workbooks for kids. I was so crazy happy to have something to do that I took them all into my bedroom and finished them over the course of about three hours. No one ever taught me to read. I just knew how. I remember sitting down with the workbooks and realizing they made so much sense. After that, I began reading books. I loved books. I was not allowed to watch TV because my grandmother said it would rot my brain. So I read all of the time. By the age of five, I knew I wanted to be the “one to put the words inside the books”. I didn’t know what it was called or how you did it but I wanted to be the one to do it. I started writing in middle school. Poetry and songs mostly. By high school I was committed to writing and spent most of my time reading, writing or performing at school.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Some of my favorite authors are Milan Kundera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez (who I won an award for writing about), Jane Mendelsohn because I love her style and her sparse, intense writing, Stewart O’Nan because Last Night at the Lobster is one of the best books I’ve ever read, Suzanne Collins is an excellent writer, Michael Ondaatje is incredible. I love lush, intense, deep writing that transports me to more than a place or time, but actually confers the feelings and emotions in such a way that I feel changed for having read that particular book.

What inspires me? Writers like Stephen King. Seriously. The work ethic, the talent, the ability to produce material and entertain your audience decade after decade. I read very little of his horror but his books like 11/22/63 and Different Seasons are marvelous books and I am awed every day by writers with this level of commitment to their craft.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
This book started out as a series of stories crafted in a class I took in North Carolina. In Madison, WI I had been a part of a poetry group and we met and performed. Performance art is so different from the actual writing of the piece but I also feel like spoken word sort of transforms writing. So in the class we read our pages aloud. My classmates loved the stories. It really shocked me how much they loved them and encouraged me to keep writing. So I kept writing these stories with the same characters until I filled four notebooks and had to get serious. I felt like the material belonged in novel form and not as a series of short stories so I set myself to the task of creating a plot and rising action for these particular characters. This book evolved over the course of about eight years. I worked through the night when doing rewrites. I came to love these characters for all of their broken dreams and flaws. I came to love how they survived.

Tower-headshot-1Featured Interview With David Chadwick

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a British journalist who has spent 30 years reporting on major events and interviewing front-line UK politicians. I have been running my own journalism and public relations consultancy since 2001, writing about business and economic issues.

Previously I was a PR manager at KPMG, and before that, a British government press officer. I have held a number of senior editorial positions on daily newspapers across the country and my freelance work has appeared in national titles.

Born and raised in Lancashire, I took a BA in history and politics at Queen Mary, University of London, and a master’s in creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I have co-written a non-fiction book about the Battle of the Atlantic, and jointly edited two short story collections. I have a life-long interest in maritime history and has travelled widely in the USA. I live with my wife, two sons and two Jack Russell terriers in Greater Manchester, England.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Without creative writing I might well be dead. I began doing it on medical advice, as part of a successful strategy to overcome alcoholism. The introduction to the movie Trainspotting is spot on: fuelling a chemical dependency is serious hard work. When you stop doing it, there’s an enormous void in your life and the doctors told me it was vital to find a replacement activity if I wanted to stay sober – and alive.

Almost 25 years later, it’s still working – but there have been major complications. Three years after I had my last drink I developed oral cancer in 1992, probably as a result of spending my twenties in a haze of drinking and smoking. Major surgery and radiotherapy cured the cancer – and did nothing to dent my resolve to carry on writing. As if that wasn’t enough, twenty years later – in 2012 – I developed another oral cancer, this time caused by the radiotherapy I’d had for the first one. This was a devastating blow after all those years living a healthy lifestyle.

Nonetheless, the cancer was successfully removed and my prognosis is encouraging. Again, creative writing proved a crucial therapy. Not only did writing a novel demand time and focus that would otherwise have been wasted on worrying, but it also gave me a long term goal to aim for.

So in a very real sense, I owe a great deal to writing fiction.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Authors I most enjoy and admire are: George Orwell, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Harris, Thomas Harris, John le Carre, Mary Stewart, Barbara Vine, James Ellroy, Lee Child, Tom Wolfe, Cormac McCarthy, David Mitchell and William Boyd.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Liberty Bazaar is a historical novel based on real events in Liverpool during the American Civil War. The story revolves around the conflict between Trinity, an escaped slave girl, and Jubal, a battle-fatigued Confederate general
After escaping from a South Carolina cotton plantation, Trinity is recruited by wealthy British liberals to support Abraham Lincoln’s Union.
At the same time, Jubal has been relieved of his front-line command after publicly denouncing slavery. To remove him from the controversy, he is sent to Liverpool to promote a Grand Liberty Bazaar in aid of Southern widows and orphans.
Trinity discovers a high-level conspiracy that could win the war for the South, but her attempts to persuade the British authorities to take action lands her in a snake-pit of subterfuge.
Jubal also starts to question who he can trust when he realises he is being manipulated by powerful individuals whose motives threaten to destroy him and his family.
As the stakes get higher, the pair realise they must work together if they are to survive.

Lauren-and-PennyFeatured Interview With Lauren Kramer-Theuerkauf

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I began writing at an early age. While in grade school, I was the recipient of two Young Author Awards (1994, 1997). In high school, I became the only freshman member of the yearbook staff where I took my own photographs and wrote stories about the happenings at Freeburg High.

I went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications-Print Journalism from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. While there, I earned the Outstanding Student in Journalism award in 2006. I am the former Editor of The Fairview Heights Tribune as well as the Clinton County News in Mascoutah, IL.

I have written numerous articles and feature stories that have been included in the above mentioned papers as well as The Freeburg Tribune and the Mass Communicator magazine for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Priceless Penny is the second book that I have written. The first book is a collection of poetry entitled More Than Words that was published in 2010. In 2015, I created my own publishing company called Theuerkauf’s Tails, LLC. I am also an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) and the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA).

I currently live in Freeburg, Illinois with my husband, Matt, and 5 rescue dogs and 2 cats.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was always fascinated with books ever since I was three years old. I was also writing my own “newspapers” for my parents to read. While in third grade, my teacher had each student write a short story. Mine was entitled “The Dancing Doll.” The story was about a doll that came to life at night without the makers knowledge. I was completely surprised when I received my first Young Authors Award for the story.

In sixth grade, I wrote another story entitled “The Note in the Bottle.” This story was about a colonial girl moving to the New World with her family. While riding on the ship, she discovers a message in a bottle from a girl her own age. I was very excited to be honored with a second Young Authors Award for this story. From then on, I knew that I was meant to write!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite author to read is also the author who most inspires me: Brian Jacques. He was the author of the amazing Redwall series. My favorite book of all time is Martin the Warrior. Jacques was able to create complex worlds that you could actually visualize in your mind as you read his books. His characters were always unique and Jacques went into great depth so that his heroes and heroines were not one dimensional.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, Priceless Penny, chronicles one dog’s amazing journey from solo stray to pampered pooch. Penny was abandoned by her previous owners and left to roam the streets of California alone. She was soon taken to a local high kill shelter. Penny’s life was in great danger and her deformities made her undesirable in the eyes of would-be adopters.

Penny’s allotted time at the shelter was quickly drawing to a close. She had nowhere to go, no one to love. Then, one day, a woman entered the shelter and discovered Penny. Little did Penny know that she was about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

This is an uplifting, true story as told from Penny’s perspective. From the book’s inception, it took two and a half years to create.

jrlindermuthFeatured Interview With J. R. Lindermuth

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania’s anthracite coal region, where I now live again. The area has been the inspiration for several of my books, including a non-fiction regional study on the lives of the miners and their families.
My last pet, a border collie, died several years ago and I haven’t the heart to replace her.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been a voracious reader from as early as I can remember. That hasn’t diminished. I always have several books going at the same time.
I began with the dream of being an artist. Somewhere along the line in my early teens I began adding stories to the illustrations. It grew from there.
Among my other interests is genealogy. I serve as librarian at my county historical society, assisting patrons with research and genealogy.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
There are so many and I’m constantly discovering more. Some top favorites in the mystery field–my favorite genre–include James Lee Burke, Ruth Rendell, Elmore Leonard, Harlan Coben, and the list goes on. They’ve all inspired me in one way or another.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel is Something So Divine. Here’s the blurb:
When a young girl is found murdered in a Pennsylvania rye field in the autumn of 1897, Ned Gebhardt, a feeble-minded youth known to have stalked the victim, is the prime suspect. Incidents involving another girl and gossip stir emotions to a frenzy, nearly leading to a lynching.

Evidence against Ned is circumstantial and there are other suspects. Influenced by the opinions of Ned’s stepsister and Ellen, a woman who has perked his interest, Simon Roth, the investigator, is inclined to give Ned benefit of the doubt. Then he discovers damaging evidence.

Still unwilling to view Ned as a cold-blooded killer, Roth puts his job and reputation in jeopardy as he seeks to assure a fair trial for the accused.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in a small steel mill town on the Delaware River in New Jersey. I attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where I trained for four years in the University of Virginia’s Army ROTC program. After serving in the US Army as a Military Intelligence officer, my family and I settled in the Research Triangle are in North Carolina, where I have worked in the legal community and raised my two daughters. Now, with both of my daughters in college, I live in Pittsboro, a small rural town south of Chapel Hill with my husband and two dachshunds named Stretch and Slinky.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I don’t think that I ever had a “fascination” with books; I just liked to read stories. As I grew older, I enjoyed writing my own. When I was thirteen, I co-wrote a screenplay and directed a movie with my friends and also wrote short stories in my classes when I was supposed to be paying attention.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite books and writers include Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, all of the books by Malcolm Gladwell, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, all of the Harry Potter books, My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, and classics such as Wuthering Heights, A Separate Peace, and The Old Man and the Sea. My favorite genre to read is contemporary fiction and I also enjoy a good memoir. There are many people who have inspired me in my writing but it is usually the people who I have loved or have touched my heart over the course of my life who bring out the most within my work.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Scout’s Honor is my first novel. It is a coming of age story in 1980s North Carolina about a young Christian tomboy named Scout who attends summer camp and experiences an emotional trauma that scars her for life. The rest of the story is her tale of self discovery from her first year of college and heading into middle age and how that one trauma affected every aspect of her life, as well as her relationship with her life long best friend. The book examines how identity affects us, along with matters of faith, and the exceptional harshness in which we treat ourselves.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a Kenyan citizen of the world who enjoys pop culture and being my son’s best friend. I recently got a puppy who we named Becky (with the good hair). I live in Nairobi Kenya where I was raised. I’m considering cutting my dreadlocks because nobody tells you that when hair is halfway down your back, it’s hard to tame. My son is against this idea.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing in nursery school. Stories have just always been part of me and my family. I also started reading books at the same age.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love intelligently written stories that are so well woven that you have to sit back and appreciate all the subtle nuances. J.K Rowling is a master of that. I love Diana Gabaldon’s writing style and nobody writes a description like Anne Rice. Stephen King with the language and inventing new expressions; ‘new and improved’…’drains’. The House at Pooh Corner is the most humourous book I’ve ever read.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is named Child of Destiny. It centres around Leo and Mya, two small town teenagers with big time issues going on in their lives. It’s a mixed race love story filled with misogyny, infidelity, lies, selfishness, and love. Also some magic.

Featured Author Jennifer Allis Provost

AuthorPhotoFeatured Interview With Jennifer Allis Provost

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Jennifer Allis Provost writes books about faeries, orcs and elves. Zombies too. She grew up in the wilds of Western Massachusetts and had read every book in the local library by age twelve. (It was a small library). An early love of mythology and folklore led to her epic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Parthalan, and her day job as a cubicle monkey helped shape her urban fantasy, Copper Girl. When she’s not writing about things that go bump in the night (and sometimes during the day) she’s working on her MFA in Creative Nonfiction.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always made up stories, but I didn’t think about publishing until 2008. I’d just finished my first full-length novel, and I remember looking at it like, well, now what do I do? And here i am, seven novels and a handful of short stories later.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
There are so many authors I admire: Robin McKinley, Neil Gaiman, and Nalini Singh, to name a few. Fantasy is my favorite genre, but I’ll read just about anything.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest release is The Virgin Queen, the second in my epic fantasy series The Chronicles of Parthalan. It follows the titular queen, Asherah, as the peace she so carefully built for her people is destroyed.

The novel itself took me about six months to write, which is about standard for me. it was completed back in 2011, but the original publisher of the series folded so Parthalan had to find a new home.

lyra2-010Featured Interview With Lyra Shanti

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Bellingham, Washington among the trees and mountains until I was brought to ultra sunny South Florida where I still reside. I have two insane cats name Pan and Kirry (Kirjava. Yes, I’m a Philip Pullman fan) and I live with them, and my beloved other half, Timothy.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
At about seven years old, I started writing songs and little stories. I then made up my own small plays and ballets. By the time I reached my twenties, I wrote extensive poetry and co-wrote plays/musicals with my partner, Timothy. In my thirties, I tried my hand at novel writing, and the epic sci-fi series, Shiva XIV was born.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy because of the freedom and imagination it inspires. However, I’m open to most fiction, (except for extreme horror or erotica.)

I’ve been greatly inspired and influenced by Hermann Hesse, author of Steppenwolf and Siddhartha. I also love J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Pirsig, and Philip Pullman.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is The Veil of Truth, the second installment in my Shiva XIV series.

Shiva XIV is the story of Ayn, a boy who is predestined to conquer the disease and war rampant throughout his galaxy. He is raised by priests and extremely sheltered, but when shocking events turn his world upside down, he is forced to decide his fate. The story has adventure, intrigue, romance, and myth.

I’m editing the third book, getting ready for an autumn release, and I’ve just finished writing book 4, which ends the main story arc. I am planning a prequel book as well, but that won’t be for some time.

All together, this is a series that has taken over my very soul for about ten years now. The story is truly a part of me, and I hope everyone who reads it will feel it becoming a part of them as well.

Sheldon-D.-Newton-2Featured Interview With Sheldon D. Newton

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born here in Nassau, Bahamas where I still reside with my wife, Jennifer M. and our two wonderful children. I grew up with my mom, my brother and three sisters. My dad died when I was very young. This had a tremendous affect upon me, but we grew up okay. My mom worked hard to enable us to have the best life she could give us. Presently, I am a minister of the Gospel, a pastor and the author of over seventeen books and counting. I love sharing principles with people which would enable them to have purpose and fulfillment. I enjoy giving people hope.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Actually, I enjoyed writing from I was about thirteen years old. I would study the Bible and write page after page of what I was learning. And when I grew old enough and propose to my girlfriend, (now wife) I wrote an entire document of what she could expect from me. I started to develop the habit of reading from age thirteen or fourteen. I love reading.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Permit me to say that my first love when it comes to reading is my Bible. After that, some of the authors I love to read after include, Roberts Liardon, Kenneth E. Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Gloria Copeland, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen and Rick Renner. Dr. Myles Munroe greatly inspires me with his books. There are others as well. I love reading books of the Christian Genre and motivational and self-help books as well. I am on a quest to learn more and more of how to live a successful and victorious life and to share the principles I learn with others. I would say that my inspiration for writing comes from the Bible, from the example set by the authors above and from the various experiences of my life and the lives of those I come into contact with. Sometimes I see a need. I see an area where people are in need of help and the inspiration comes to write a book along that line to give what help I can offer.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called “Diligence To The Call Of God” which answers one of the fundamental questions of humanity. And that question is, “Why am I here?” This book goes into great detail concerning discovering the purpose you were born and the importance of fulfilling that purpose. It is the third in a series on the subject of Diligence. My first book, “Diligence To The Things Of God” deals with developing and maintaining a closer walk with God. The next book in the series in, Diligence, The Master Key To Achieving Your Dreams.” As I studied and researched the subject of diligence I came to see that it is not just the key to spiritual success, but to success in every area of our lives. So I wrote this book as a motivational, inspirational and self-help book to help people see how they can overcome procrastination and reach their goals and dreams.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Iowa, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. In addition to housing the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Iowa City is one of only seven places in the world UNESCO has certified as a City of Literature. We have 2 cats, 2 hamsters, and 1 fish.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
In junior high I discovered the book Misery (Stephen King), which inspired me to start writing my own stories. They weren’t very good, but I kept at it, worked hard to hone my skills, and eventually developed my own writing style.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’ve always been drawn to Stephen King. He’s a brilliant storyteller and an incredible curator of characters. Outside of King, I’ll pretty much read anything that catches my interest.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Resthaven centers around a pack of kids who decide to have a scavenger hunt inside an abandoned retirement home, only to discover they’re not the only ones roaming the hallways. I wanted to write something my teenage daughters would enjoy, and I’ve always been intrigued by old, creepy buildings.

redlandscapeportrait.JPG-croppedFeatured Interview With Julie Christine Round

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Slough, when it was in Bucks but moved to Southall in Middx when I was two and a half. After leaving Ealing Grammar School I spent three years at Balls Park Teacher Training College
and began teaching in London where I met my husband, Ben. We moved all over the country with his work and then retired to Worthing in Sussex where I began writing novels.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read a great deal as a child and wrote poems throughout my life but did not start on short stories and novels until I was 64.
With four years as a County Councillor in Kent I found I needed to express my political opinions and tried to influence happenings in Gillingham in Kent with letters and action on local issues but once I had retired I put these ideas into my books, instead. I have included adoption, flooding, theft, arson and education in my books, as well as a sprinkling of my own experiences.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite author is Stephen King. I tried to write like him but failed so I wrote the kind of books my mother would enjoy, family relationship novels with a touch of social conflict. My first book was written because I believed people with learning difficulties were not treated well. I tried to show how someone who could not read and write could still lead a useful and contented life. This led to two follow up stories. After ‘Lane’s End’ and ‘Unstable Lane’ and ‘The Third Lane’ I realised that much of the appeal of my books was the locality, the Sussex coast, so Never Run Away’ and ‘Never Pretend’ were set there again, although this time it was a family breakup.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I have just completed ‘A Lesson for the Teacher’ a completely different type of book. This is a romance, set in the 1960’s -written in mixed first person style and not set in Sussex.
Meg, Tamsin and Georgie leave college and start work as schoolteachers but only one continues in that role. Meg is looking for her ‘Mr Right’ but due to her innocence does not initially succeed. Tamsin is looking for adventure and finds it on the showground. Georgie moves into modelling and meets a rich sugar daddy. It almost feels like history when we realise how times have changed.

Born, raised and live in northern rural Ontario, Canada. I love country living, surrounded in the natural ambiance of lakes, rivers, trees and various critters.
My loyal writer dog “Boomer passed away last winter and I am looking forward to having another one, very soon. I am currently supervised by a tiny Beta fish, named “Just”.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books which in later years, inspired my own stories to flow. I have always dabbled with writing yet, (I chuckle here) post menopause brings out different priorities and choices. Working full time and raising children leaves little time to write. I suppose, I am a late bloomer in this regard, however, I am happier now that I am always writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I do not read trendy or new books, I do not want to be influenced by other writers.
When I do pick up a book, they tend to be old and obscure books.
I enjoy re-reading my own novels, I honestly have little recall of what I write.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My two most recently published books are: “Soul Calling, finding your angel guided life purpose” a companion personal growth book to: “Angel Guides, love communication” Get your Angel Groove on!:

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I entered this world at a time of civil war in Cambodia, when the Khmer Republic and the Khmer Rouge dismembered and disemboweled each other like the depictions of Naraka (Hell in Buddhist cosmology). Over a year later, on April 17, 1975, the China-backed Khmer Rouge (Democratic Kampuchea) overpowered the United States-backed Khmer Republic (Lon Nol regime). A few days later, my family and the rest of the population of Pailin, my birthplace, were forced to evacuate at gunpoint. For almost four years, we lived and worked in the fields. When it was all said and done, about two million lives, as conservatively estimated by historians, were lost. They were the cream of Khmer society: former government officials, educated members of society, royal family members, teachers, religious figures, artists, doctors, engineers, city dwellers, and anyone seen as a threat as useless to the regime.

Having survived the effects of the Vietnam War, the Khmer Civil War, and the Khmer Rouge regime, my parents decided not to stick around for another phase of mass killings. As Democratic Kampuchea and its former ally, communist Vietnam, fought each other bitterly, my family, like thousands of other Khmers, fled to the Cambodian-Thai border.

We dodged bullets, bombs, and land mines in search of peace, education, and prosperity. Many died trying. Thanks to UNCHR, UNICEF and other international organizations, we were brought into Thailand. Still, this was not our final destination. Violence and suffering greeted us again, at the hand of barbaric Thai soldiers. Those who were educated and came from an elitist background went on to find refuge in First World countries. As uneducated people and peasants, we were left behind to feel the wrath of the Thai soldiers. When news emerged about them raping, brutalizing, and trucking Khmers by the thousands to be buried alive or dumped in areas infested by land mines, only then did kind-hearted people, clergymen and members of the Western churches come to our rescue.

My father worked feverishly to write letters to First World countries to sponsor us, to give us a chance to survive. After being displaced in the refugee camps for two years, my family received three sponsorships: one to New Zealand and two to the United States of America (Washington, D.C. and Chicago, Illinois). We departed for Chicago, only hearing about the other two offers after we had left the camps. On a cold night in September 1981, we landed at O’Hare International Airport.

Uptown Chicago in the 1980s consisted of dilapidated buildings that were left over from the glory days of previous immigrants from England, Ireland, and other Western European countries. By this time, they had moved on to greener pastures. A small number of Native Americans, African Americans, Latin Americans, Southeast Asians and Eastern Europeans who escaped their war-torn and communist countries dominated Uptown. We did our best to obtain whatever education the state had to offer and worked at whatever odd jobs we could find. The entrepreneurs among us opened up grocery stores and restaurants. Through tears, sweat, and hard work, we had food—good and delicious food—to sustain us. We had clothes and houses to protect us from all types of unpredictable weather. My father was able to give me that education he always wanted me to have.

My family survives the mean streets of Uptown, Chicago. We are grateful. We remain forever grateful to the universe and the good people within it to see us through our toughest and darkest times.

After having graduated from Loyola University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and having worked in the corporate world for many years, I have decided to continue to improve myself and to contribute to the richness that is Chicago literature. I love reading history, mystery, supernatural, and science-fiction books. Reading generates ideas, and story ideas are flowing out of me like the Tonle Sap River. I am moving forward to chase that sought-after dream of being a writer. That is why I am attending Northwestern University in Chicago to hone my writing skills and to obtain my master’s degree in creative nonfiction. Writing is my refuge.

While I am currently investigating the brutal murders of my uncle, his wife, and their fellow villagers in 1995, I am also working on my debut science-fiction novel. I hope to finish it this year.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read since middle school, but did not understand any of it. I didn’t start to like reading until I studied abroad in Rome, Italy during my second year of college. The environment brought such literary classics as “The Portrait of a Lady” and “Middlemarch” to life.

I started writing after I finished college. I took up writing because I did not think I was good at it. I am the type to hone the skills that I lack, so here I am, writing and writing, until other people take an interest in it.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are William Shakespeare, Jane Austin, Henry James, J. K. Rowling, Patrick Rothfuss, H. G. Wells, Mark Twain, and George R. R. Martin, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Robert A. Heinlein. I love to read romance, fantasy, and science fiction. However, I would read anything that is a page turner and has a good plot and moral lesson.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Anjali Chinak, the curious-minded teenage daughter of a Khmer detective, is shocked by the fatal rape of her Eurasian friend, Esmè Laurent, the governor’s daughter. Anjali believes the perpetrator is the same man who has wreaked havoc in other Asian countries. On a scorching April day in1920, in Siem Reap, a town of majestic Khmer ruins and opulent French-colonial edifices, Asian authorities meet to address the crisis. The multiple rapes and murders have triggered pandemonium in cities of Annam, Burma, Laos, and Siam. Beautiful young women have been lured to abandoned buildings and raped with a foreign object; their bodies left to bleed, contract infection, stiffen, and rot. Anjali identifies the foreign object. She knows the killer’s identity. She sets out to prove her theory, only to be lured and brutalized herself. Will the young sleuth survive the attack and bring this murderer to justice?

FINALFeatured Interview With RS Anthony

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in a small country in Southeast Asia, Malaysia. These days, if I’m not visiting my family in the small town I grew up in, then I’m at the capital city, typing away my next book.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember but I didn’t think about writing my own book until I was seventeen. Even then, it was nothing more than an experiment. Most of what I wrote in that time was either uninteresting or unoriginal. The interest gradually waned and I shelved the idea and focused on my studies and career instead. I don’t know if it was fate or coincidence that nudged me in the path I found myself in later but I was soon in charge of communications in my work which involved a lot of writing, albeit official documents. Then in 2012, I decided to make some changes in my life and decided to keep a journal. I didn’t keep it for long but it reminded me how much I enjoyed writing. And I don’t mean the boring official documents I’d been preparing at work. So I made plans to write fiction, read up a lot about it, made mistakes, terrible mistakes and in 2016, my debut novel was ready to be published.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Some of my all time favorite authors are Scott Turow, John Grisham, Jeffrey Archer, Tess Gerritsen. In the early days, I used to read a lot of Sidney Sheldons. I’m a sucker for legal thrillers. I guess it’s obvious in the author line-up above 🙂
My own writings are inspired by small town living, teen innocence and dark secrets. I’ve always been excited about spinning a good yarn in that backdrop.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Pork, my debut novel is a suspense thriller set in the small town of Halstead. A lonely fifteen year-old boy goes through abuse and bullying, forcing him to take respite in an abandoned tree house near the woods. He meets an unconscious young girl one day and friendship blooms between them. Unbeknownst to Steven, trouble also brews as the two get closer and closer.

Writing Pork was an absolute joy. My idea for the book started with the ending and it remained a strong motivation until I finished writing it. It took me six months to get it written, edited and finally published. Along the way, I faced numerous challenges from hiring a dishonest editor to not knowing what would be right cover for my book. If I hadn’t had as much determination, I think I would have given up. Self publishing is tough considering you have to manage and execute everything yourself. When you’re doing this for the first time, you have limited experience and knowledge and there’s no one to tell what’s right or wrong. So you have no choice but to learn through mistakes and they’re expensive. All said, was the trouble worth it? YES! Because today, I have a good book with 4 star rating (at the time of writing). So it’s good.

I live in Wakefield in the UK where I was born and raised. I currently live with my partner and our four furry babies (Guinea Pigs). I love animals in general but my favourites are Guinea Pigs for their cuteness factor and Blackbirds because they are cheery looking little birds.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was facinated with stories in genral in book form and on screen from a very young age. I stopped writing in my teen years after losing a lot of my work, and started again at the age of nineteen.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite authors are Stephen King, Darren Shan, R.L.Stine, Jane Austen, Cassandra Clare, Bella Forrest, Nicholas Sparks, Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins, Rhonda Byrne, Paulo Coelho, Terry Brooks and Stephanie Meyer.
As you can tell by the range of authors I don’t really have a favourite genre, I am open to any book of interest based on the story.
I am inspired by all of the above authors as I do not limit myself to writing in one genre.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is titled Arabella. Arabella is an Historical Romance novel inspired by my love of period dramas and adaptations from Jane Austen and the BBC.
Arabella Lybeck is a wealthy young girl, who is forced to move from London to Derbyshire. She believes her life to be over, until she meets Lewis Larson; the son of a farmer.
As their friendship blossoms over time and they come of age, so does Larson’s heart.
After the death of his father, Larson, joins the military to support his mother and farm, but not before sending word to Arabella of his love for her.
Arabella’s father; who undoubtedly hates Larson and blames him for his sons accident intercepts his letter, leading Arabella to believe Larson has left without a word, as she soon realises she returns Larson’s love.
After being separated, Arabella, is sent back to London to find a suitable husband at her father’s command.
What becomes of love when all is lost?
Will Arabella and Larson be reunited?
Can their love stand the test of time?
Arabella is a heart-warming story of love and loss in Georgian England.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Agatha Rae and I am Polish. I live in a beautiful city of Gdynia, on the north of my country. I have a wonderful mutt, a rescue dog, called Flicka.
I am a huge fan of Canadian rockers The Tea Party, a cinema-goer, and a CD-collector who is trying to put together a Charles Bukowski PhD. I am currently working on the second volume of Tangents for Firefly and Wisp and another ESL project for Polish market.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved reading. Books have always been around me and I had my first writting attempts when I was seven, or eight years old (I remember my stories were strongly influenced by “Alice In Wonderland” at that time). I graduated from an English Department at a university here in Poland, a department which only deepened my love to books and written word, and before I started writing fiction, I’d published many articles in Polish magazines and newspapers concerning my professional field of interests, namely, teaching English. Then, in 2013 my debut novel, “Oenone” came out, courtesy of my wonderful independent American publisher Firefly and Wisp Books, and since that time it has been one fantastic ride. I’ve had two novels (“Oenone”, “Tangents”), two novellas (“The Belt”, “The Garden”) and a Christmas short stories collection publsihed (“Coming Home For Christmas,”, co-written with the queen of romance, Danielle Lee Zwissler) published. My novel “Tangents” was also released in Sweden. I am working on the book’s second volume now.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Among my favorite authors are definitely Stephen King, Tennessee Williams, Richard Yates, JD Salinger, Jack Kerouac, Bill Bryson, Charles Bukowski, and Polish authors Katarzyna Tubylewicz and Andrzej Sapkowski.
I have a few favorite genres to read. I definitely love good psychological stories with a sprinkle of horror or thriller. I also enjoy the 1950’s/1960’s novels in which the characters would discuss social and psychological dilemmas while having countless drinks and smoking one cigarette after another, trying to comprehend the world at the verge of a huge social revolution. I love, absolutely LOVE Bill Bryson’s travel books, because his sense of humor is simply incomparable with anyone else’s, but I wouldn’t say that travel books are inspirational for me per se.
My books are generally difficult to describe genre-wise, because in each of the stories I’ve written so far, there at least two or three different genres which are intertwining. There’s adventure, mystery, horror, romance, drama, and so on, and so forth. Everyone will find something suitable for them in my books 🙂

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Tangents vol. 1”.
Rick is a successful writer living in New York City. Anna has just lost her job as a college teacher in Boston. Dan is a frustrated insurance agent from London, and Matylda is a Polish girl scout getting ready to settle in Madrid. One day, they fall asleep and when they wake up in the middle of some mysterious woods, they have only one thing in common – they all want to return home…

Tangents is an adventure/drama novel, destined to be a two-volume publication, which deals with such problems as relatiosnhip crises, religion fantatism, searching for happiness, determination to rebuild a relation with a person’s loved ones. It’s all settled in a rather mysterious surroundings and has a quite big supernatural element putting the whole story together. It’s Firefly and Wisp’s first international release, since Tangents has been also published in Sweden.

BiloxiSigningFeatured Interview With S A Monkress

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
An Oklahoma native, I transplanted to Orange Grove, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast nine years ago. Retiring from a career at an oil-based company, I began writing. My first book chronicled the saga of an ambitious young woman in the 1900’s Oklahoma oil boom, who dreamed of escaping the usual housework of young women and working outside the home. She wound up building an oil empire! I’ve written three other books and published stories and articles in various anthologies and magazines.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been fascinated with books since I began reading as a child. Raising a family, full-time employment and other things took priority of my time, until I decided to “just do it” in my forties, and began to put down all the ideas which had swirled in my head for years.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre to read are thrillers and I particularly enjoy legal stories, so John Grisham is one of my favorite authors. Many people inspire my writing: my high school English teacher, my friends, my rowdy grandkids, my writing group here on the coast and lots of great authors!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest work: “My Gabe,” was written to inspire young women to look inward, to the spirit that dwells within them, to find happiness. After teaching middle school in a very rough neighborhood, I was pleasantly surprised to find numerous copies of the “Twilight” series on the desks of girls I never thought would read a novel! I wanted to write something counter to the dark vampire them.

“When Calli is hurled out of the path of a speeding motorcycle by a mysterious young man, never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined the MAGICAL experiences which lay ahead for her! ”
