At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I probably had a fascination with stories at an early age, whether picture books, novels, or comic books. However, I didn’t take writing seriously until I was an adult, as I mention in my next answer, when my children were quite small. I began to submit stories to publishers more than twenty years ago, with my first novel for young adults being published in 2003.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
It’s probably easier to tell a story of how I first became interested in being an author. When my children were small, I started reading children’s books again for the first time in many years. Some of the books were wonderful and I wished that I could write something similar. However, some of the books were very poor and I was surprised that they’d ever been published. This made me wonder if I could write stories of my own. I started thinking that I should write fairy tales and picture books for younger children, but after reading the first three Harry Potter novels, I realized that I wanted to write for the age group that those books are aimed at. I wasn’t interested in writing about the same things, such as magic, wizards, and imaginary creatures, and instead focused on themes that I was interested in, such as science fiction, fantasy, time travel, history, comic books, ancient mysteries and civilizations, superheroes, other dimensions, and the paranormal. The novels that have been subsequently published have mostly been in these genres.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Stone of the Seer is an exciting historical fantasy series of adventure novels for young adults, primarily set in the turbulent period of the English Civil War.

The Stone of the Seer, book one in the series, features the Vikings, Leonardo da Vinci, and the political turmoil of the 1640s. At Habingdon House, Lady Elizabeth Usborne, Kate, and Tom encounter a magical black stone, mysterious ancient manuscripts, and the incredible time viewing device known as the tempus inpectoris, all while under constant threat from the murderous witchfinder, Daniel Tombes.

The other novels in the series are Royal Blood and Revenge of the Witchfinder, which will be published in the coming months.

What Heals the Heart by Jen Telger

About What Heals the Heart by Jen Telger:

Eleven-year-old Annabelle and her friends live in the sleepy town of Pullman Station, where summers consist of neighborhood potlucks, backyard baseball games, trips to the community pool, and the heavenly aroma of warm sugar wafting out of Bohler’s Bakery. It’s idyllic, with nary a care save for one: Annabelle’s house sits between the two nastiest old bats in town, who happen to hate each other’s guts.

When seventy-something former best friends Cilla and Nattie had a falling out several years ago, Annabelle and her family got caught in the crosshairs living between them. While Annabelle’s mama stresses the importance of carrying out one’s Christian duty via kindness to all, she maintains a precariously delicate balance keeping both “gasoline” and “gunpowder” happy. As for Annabelle and her friends, they avoid both women, Cilla’s dog, and Nattie’s starter pistol, at all costs.

When a tragic accident shakes the neighborhood to its core and Cilla’s past comes back to haunt, will the sworn enemies find common ground and forgiveness before time runs out, or will they drive the entire neighborhood crazy until the bitter end?

“What Heals the Heart” is a funny, heartrending story of friendship, small-town life, the search for forgiveness, and what it might take to heal the heart. If you love women’s non-romance fiction that harkens back to the sweet nostalgia of childhood while navigating the pain of adulthood, you’ll love this story by author Jen Telger. Head over to Pullman Station today!

My Dearest Miss Fairfax

About My Dearest Miss Fairfax:

My Dearest Miss Fairfax by Jeanette Watts
A retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma from Jane Fairfax’s point of view

It is October 1814, and JANE FAIRFAX is attending the wedding of her bosom friend, SOPHIA DIXON. The two girls have been raised together, and mourn their separation. Sophia will be going to Ireland with her new husband, Jane will begin supporting herself as a governess.

Before parting forever, the two friends, plus Sophia’s husband and COLONEL AND MRS. CAMPBELL, take a trip to Weymouth. There, they meet FRANK CHURCHILL. Handsome, charming, engaging, and clearly interested in Jane. The chemistry is irresistible on both sides, and Frank proposes. But there’s a catch: Frank needs the permission of his wealthy AUNT CHURCHILL in order to marry. He asks her to agree to a secret engagement until he can obtain her permission. Jane agrees to the arrangement.

Conveniently, Jane’s AUNT BATES lives in Highbury, the very same town as Frank Churchill’s father, MR. WESTON. Jane visits Aunt Bates, so that the lovers can see each other while awaiting the needed permission. But Aunt Churchill is so sick, she cannot be bothered to talk of matters besides her own health.

Frank eventually manages to pay a call upon his father and his new wife. It allows him to see Jane under the pretext of paying the expected call upon a bride. He takes stock of the situation in Highbury, starts a flirtation with EMMA WOODHOUSE to prevent the residents from suspecting the truth of his engagement to Jane, and sends Jane a pianoforte to provide some comfort while she is stuck waiting for his aunt’s recovery.

Jane miserably waits. She plays the pianoforte, listens to her endlessly-talking aunt, helps care for her grandmother, attends social gatherings. Jane despises the endlessly-gossiping inhabitants of Highbury. She is convinced Emma Woodhouse is a rather stupid person. She fends off romantic overtures from the grumpy and rude MR. KNIGHTLEY. The local vicar returns to town, newly married, and MRS. ELTON enters her life.

Mrs. Elton becomes Jane’s daily torturer. Pushy, ignorant and pretentious, she forces her attentions onto Jane, who finds herself walking and dining frequently with the Eltons. Frank’s return to Highbury to throw a ball, just to be able to get a few dances with Jane, gives her a brief respite from the agony of living among the residents of Highbury, but then once again he leaves and she is alone with them.
Frank manages to get his sickly aunt relocated to a mere nine miles away. While his visits can be more frequent, the lovers still need to preserve their secret, which gets harder and harder to keep. Jane fends off constant offers of help from Mrs. Elton, who insists she needs to be looking for a governess position immediately and insults her endlessly with her claims that Jane is too ignorant to find a place without her help. Jane uses the excuse that she will take no position until Colonel and Mrs. Campbell return from visiting Sophia and her new husband in Ireland. Her rationale falls on deaf ears.

All the various stresses in her life come to a head at a strawberry-picking party. Her ears are tired out by her aunt’s endlessly-wagging tongue, she cannot stand another word of insipid gossip, which is all the Highbury residents know how to talk about. She had written to beg Frank to come and provide a bit of relief from the company of a bunch of people she can’t stand, but he doesn’t show up, and Mrs. Elton finds a very advantageous governess position for Jane, and insists that Jane accept it. At her wits’ end, she leaves the party, only to encounter Frank as she is walking home. They quarrel. The fight continues the next day at an outing to Box Hill, where Frank flirts with Emma Woodhouse and goads Emma into insulting Jane’s aunt. That night, Jane accepts the governess position with Mrs. Elton, and writes to break off the engagement with Frank.

A sleepless night collapses into a full nervous breakdown. Her aunt fussing over her does not help, Emma Woodhouse making overtures, no doubt to try and apologize, does not help. Mrs. Elton bringing remedies and sitting at her bedside does not help. Only Frank’s arrival, throwing himself on his knees in a panic, to tell her his aunt has died and he now can officially propose, apologizing for everything he has put her through since Weymouth, stops her downward spiral.

Jane forgives him, and predictably, the entire town knows the gossip that they are engaged before sunset.

Featured Interview With Michael Walker-Thomas

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have been writing all my life. My first book came out in 2018, but I love writing Novels and Poetry. I travel so much, so I like to say I am from the United States. I started in Philadelphia, Pa and now am a world traveler, getting many ideas from what I see and hear. I am also a teacher of English. I love teacher and I thank my students for allowing me to teach them. I love what I do. I have no pets.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I knew I wanted to be a writer by sitting with my Grandmother everyday when I was younger. She use to tell me stories about many things in her life. I walked with her one day and she said I should write and become a teacher, and that is what I do. Being a writer is the greatest gift I can give to the world outside of my faith in God and my marriage to my wife Briana.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
James Baldwin, W.E.B Du Bois and Maya Angelou are my favorites. They inspire me everyday. I love to read all genres.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My most recent book, The Voices You May Not Hear: The Lost Pages, is a collection of poems about life and other avenues. The book is part 2 of a series that focuses on voices that you may not hear. The stories could be real and it puts the reader in the mind of the characters.

Featured Interview With Kate Harriet

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in a small cosy village in England and used to live on a farm as a little girl. However I was petrified of the cows because to a six-year-old a cow is a monster.

I still live in that tight-knit little village but don’t have any pets as I am constantly being buzzed by the local woodpigeons and befriended by the neighbourhood cats.

Does this make me a Disney Princess?

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Mum says I started reading when I was about three out of sheer nosiness. I wrote my first alphabet book when I was seven and bound it together with blue parcel string.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite author to read is Jane Austen, as her books feature heroines who stand their ground against society’s rules and despite overwhelming odds.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
It’s a week before Christmas when 30-year-old London copywriter Jess Smith hopes that childhood crush Matthew Churchill will honour a decade-old pact and ask her to marry him.

But on the eve of the deadline, Matthew announces that he is marrying her old school bully instead.

Heartbroken, Jess flees to the beautiful frost-covered village of Birling Grove to recoup at her parents’ farm cottage. But soon she clashes with a notorious local earl…

As their feelings grow, will Jess find new love or will a dithering Matthew get in the way?

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in the south-west and west of England, and currently live near Bristol.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve written fictional stories as far back as I can remember. Wrote my first novel at 16, and have been writing (albeit with some long non-writing periods) ever since.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite fiction authors are usually in the horror, dark fantasy, or crime genres. Long list, but Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Daphne du Maurier, and Patricia Cornwell. I am also interested by real-life stories about the strange / mysterious / paranormal, so often work these into my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Floating Hair enjoyed a very long gestation period. I started writing it in 1996, wrote around 60 pages, and then became a bit disillusioned with writing and stopped. Picked it up again in 2009, and spent the next 3 years turning my initial attempt into a full-length novel: receiving no interest from publishers or agents.
Then spent 2019-21 rewriting the novel, before self-publishing.

Floating Hair is a gothic horror novel with a female perspective set in north-eastern United States.

David, grieving for his lost wife, returns to the town of his childhood: finding love and solace and escape.
Malsham: now filled with romantic, sexual, and criminal lives.
And some bad men. Especially one…
In 1692, Lucy was burned as a witch to conceal his crime: the ravaging fire destroying every aspect of her identity. In the centuries that follow, no-one is held responsible. But now she is given a chance of retribution…
On a cold October night, there is a light in the sky. The population of Malsham watches its blazing progress, before it crashes into the lake. In that moment before impact, some become psychically bound: their lives forever linked.
The explosion resurrects Lucy as a fiery vampire. Initially unable to leave the waters, she births small dragons which feed upon the townspeople: gaining sustenance from their endeavours.
Rain deluges the region. Hauling herself from the lake, the rainwater coats her skin: churning from transparent into disparate dark colours. She strides towards the closest house…

Featured Interview With Eliza Stopps

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life. I currently own a horse, a Great Pyrenees dog, and a black cat. They are all very cute and may or may not feature in one of my books in the future.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started “writing” books before I actually knew how to write. I would fill up notebook after notebook with just scribbles and pretend to write books! Eventually, I started writing poetry and stories all the time. I wrote my first actual book when I was nine years old and it was about 70 pages long. I was even published in a poetry collection when I was eleven! But I didn’t finish my first real “novel” until I completed NaNoWriMo in 2016 when I was 21. My first book was published a year later!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a lot of indie authors because they are kind enough to send them to me in the form of ARCs. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks and will pick up just about anything that sounds interesting. My favorite genre usually involves a mystery of some kind, but the only thing I don’t read is horror.
I am constantly inspired by everything around me. If I feel like I’m lacking inspiration, I usually take that as a sign that I need to go do something other than write for a while. I’ll paint, go horseback riding, or spend some time out in the garden, and I usually find the inspiration while I’m there.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is my Kindle Vella story, The Disappearance of Susannah Dane. That book was a Top Faved Kindle Vella story for weeks when it was first released and it even hit the top 20 in its categories on Amazon when I released it on Kindle Unlimited! You can buy the full novel in paperback or eBook on Amazon, or start reading it chapter-by-chapter on Kindle Vella.
This novel is very dear to me because it is set in a small town on the Oregon Coast, where I happened to have my honeymoon almost nine years ago. I have spent a lot of time in that area and there is this haunted, sad feeling to many of the locations. It’s the complete opposite of a sunny, white sandy beach in Florida. It brings a lot of nostalgia for me and I love writing these books. The main character, Paige, is kind of a version of myself in high school (if I had a backbone.) She’s strong and determined to find out what happened to her best friend which eventually leads to a tragic loss. This novel ties into small-town drama going back generations, which I love digging into. It also deals with sensitive topics like teen pregnancy and abortion, murder, and teen drug use.
I spent six months writing and publishing this novel on Kindle Vella, week-by-week, and then another six months publishing the sequel. The sequel, The Absence of Aurelia Perez, is out on Kindle Vella now and will also be available in paperback and KU soon!

How many wrongs make a right?

Deputy Chief Quentin “Port” Porter is famous for catching the infamous Magistrate Killer, Linus Cole, whose murder spree included his best friend and partner, Miles Tate.

Port’s heroics caught the nation’s imagination, inspiring film and television, and skyrocketing his career while making him famous and wealthy.

Just one problem — Port may have lied about a key element of the case to put Cole away for crimes he was sure he’d committed.

Now, years later, as Cole is scheduled for execution, some are publicly questioning Cole’s guilt. When a new killer strikes using the same M.O. and going after targets related to the original case, Port finds himself searching for answers before the killer strikes again.

His job gets harder when Danica Tate, now a criminal psychologist, is brought in to consult on the case. Stevie Tenderheart Wait a Minute! (A Bedtime Story) by Steve William Laible

About Featured Book: Stevie Tenderheart Wait a Minute! (A Bedtime Story) by Steve William Laible

Based on a True Story. In this version, the author elevated the wildly popular children’s ‘picture book’ of the same name, to a 6 x 9” full-color illustrated paperback novella [77 pages] so older children can get in on the fun too. It’s a fuller, richer story.

Summary: A warm and ‘tenderhearted’ story of gladness and adventure abound in this amazingly crafted, splendidly illustrated story about a boy and his dinosaur and SO much more. We’re talking about puppies and parrots and rabbits and chicks; frogs and dogs and pollywogs, but we shouldn’t say anymore…surprises and all.

In keeping with the “BED” theme, of his first book, Stevie Tenderheart My Favorite Place to Be…(A Bedtime Story) where Stevie loves his bed SO much, he wishes he could take it everywhere he goes, in this story, Stevie FILLS his bed instead, with ALL of his favorite things. (If you can imagine.) It’s a hilarious bedtime story with calming twists and turns that both parents and kids adore. The animals and their expressions are just too adorable to miss.

Secrets not only affect the lives of the secret keepers, but also can torment future generations. Leora Van Leer has serious commitment issues. Why wouldn’t she? Her mother abandoned her like an unwanted kitten right after she was born, and she has no idea who her father is.

When Leora inherits her grandmother’s bed and breakfast, she discovers that she must live in and operate it for one year, or ownership will go to a children’s foundation. It seems simple enough, but she has a history of running as fast as a streak of lightning every time she becomes too attached to anyone or anything.

As if that’s not enough, she’s also inherited three quirky residents with the B&B. Miss Sophie has Alzheimer’s and drifts in and out of the now as fast as the snap of a finger. Preacher is a retired minister who takes Bible verse liberties. Eduardo is a young artist with absence seizures, freezing into a statue without warning.

Everything that can go wrong with reopening the bed and breakfast goes wrong. As well, her controlling mother is determined to steal her inheritance and a brown-eyed stranger with a lopsided smile has stolen her heart.

While Leora adjusts to a new upside-down life, her mother does the unimaginable, leading Leora to uncover a secret so horrifying, her life will never be the same.

She has two options: come to terms with the past and continue the Van Leer legacy as she promised her grandmother;

or RUN.
