Featured Interview With Christine Potter

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in England towards the end of World War II, bombs were being dropped on the capital, but that was the least of my mother’s worries: I was a preemie weighing less than four lbs, and wasn’t expected to last the night. Tell that to the WW groups I’ve belonged to over the years!
I emigrated to Canada in 1965, the same year as my marriage – and that, contrary to most people’s predictions, is still going strong 57 years later! We live in Fort Langley, a delightful heritage spot in British Columbia, Canada, and have lived here since 1980. The little complex we live on has quite a few ‘shared’ pets – dogs who enjoy walkies at any possible time, and cats who enjoy strokes and tummy rubs. They believe we’re here to serve them.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved books and was lucky enough to have parents who encouraged me. My favourite, as a child, was the Pookie Rabbit series by Ivy Wallace. Pookie feels out of place in his home because he’s not a normal brown bunny like his brothers and sisters — he has a set of wings. I identified with his feelings of ‘not belonging’!
I had a scrappy education, partly because of a mobility problem, and was, for several years, home educated. I had a huge complex about my lack of formal schooling, so I was delighted when, after arriving in Canada, I got a job as secretary to an editor with a magazine publisher. He would send me out on small assignments, and I accumulated enough experience to take up freelance journalism when we started a family, That in turn led to a career in travel writing. I travelled the world for a travel trade publication, on the proverbial ‘beer budget and champagne lifestyle.’ In 1990 I launched a consumer travel publication of my own, HolidayMaker, and kept it going for 20 years. It was a magical lifestyle. I was so blessed.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I always enjoy Jojo Moyes’ books and her amazing variety of topics. Alice Hoffman is another favourite. Ann Patchett, Ken Follett, Ruth Hogan … my goodness there are just so many really great authors, and so little time! Cynthia Harrod Eagles is inspirational with her sheer volume of series – all so different – and yet the quality of her writing never wanes.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Choirboy and the Bellydancer is a book about love, really, and how it can endure. It’s the story of how Christopher (later to become my husband) came to my rescue when I was alone at 16, and had nowhere to live. He was also 16, and took me home. “My mum’ll put you up,” he told me. And she did, and we became romantically involved. Until I had to join my own parents in the Middle East, where I – fickle teenager that I was – became starstruck by an Arab pop star and danced in his shows. When I got back to England, Chris and I hooked up again, in hilarious circumstances.
One section of my book explores our disparate childhoods, when Christopher was a choirboy, and I had adventures in West Africa, and lived in Spain during the 1950s.
I’m thrilled with the reviews my book is getting on Amazon and from other authors. I worked on the manuscript for four years, picking away at bits and pieces, and originally intended it just for my granddaughters. As I read passages to other people, I was persuaded it would have a much larger audience than just family. Then Covid hit, and I decided to take advantage of being locked down. I wasn’t going anywhere, so I metaphorically tied myself to the keyboard and wrote. And rewrote. And rewrote. I got myself a good editor, Kathrin Lake of Buddha Press, and we gave birth to the book in February of this year!

Featured Interview With Lucas Kinkaid

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My father was in the military when I was born. I was born in Germany on an Air Force base. I now live in western Pennsylvania with my wife. We enjoy outdoor activities such as biking and hiking. We don’t have any pets, but we do have many creatures from the woods around our home that come to visit.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was younger, I like sports. The first book I remember reading several times was “The Babe Ruth” story. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. I started writing in High School. I wrote about things going on in my life and kept it hidden. In high school, I was on the newspaper staff and I’ve been writing ever since.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I really enjoy anything written by John Steinbeck. I like reading fiction but also fantasy. The biggest inspiration I have with my writing is stories that come alive in my mind, and I feel compelled to write them down.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book “My Canvas Bag” is about a young man born into a bad situation. He struggles with his dysfunctional homelife. He makes some bad decisions and then has to decided what path he will take in life. Trying to go down a path away from crime is difficult but is worth it. He discovers his ability to write and discovers himelf.

Make Enterprise Great Again: The Gods Must Be Crazy!: Cradle of Communism to Catacomb of Capitalism

About Make Enterprise Great Again: The Gods Must Be Crazy!: Cradle of Communism to Catacomb of Capitalism:

“Book Trailer: https://youtu.be/pe50Rx1DjOc
This book takes its title from the 1980 comedy film “The Gods Must Be Crazy,” in which an empty Coca-Cola bottle is dropped from a plane onto a community of African bushmen. The bottle is thought to be a gift from the Gods, but after it incites bitter fighting amongst the villagers, the tribal leader decides to return it to the Gods, embarking upon a journey to the end of the world. Through my own metaphorical coke bottle, I visualize the dawn of a daunting new Empire. This book serves as both a testament to the past glories of the current American Empire and a guidebook to restoring Capitalism and Enterprise – before it is too late.

Silent Child

About Silent Child:

In the summer of 2006, Emma Price watched helplessly as her six-year-old son’s red coat was fished out of the River Ouse. It was the tragic story of the year – a little boy, Aiden, wandered away from school during a terrible flood, fell into the river, and drowned.

His body was never recovered.

Ten years later, Emma has finally rediscovered the joy in life. She’s married, pregnant, and in control again…

… until Aiden returns.

Too traumatized to speak, he raises endless questions and answers none. Only his body tells the story of his decade-long disappearance. The historic broken bones and injuries cast a mere glimpse into the horrors Aiden has experienced. Aiden never drowned. Aiden was taken.

As Emma attempts to reconnect with her now teenage son, she must unmask the monster who took him away from her. But who, in their tiny village, could be capable of such a crime?

It’s Aiden who has the answers, but he cannot tell her the unspeakable.

The Eloquence of Effort: Beware the Path of Least Resistance by Indar Maharaj

About The Eloquence of Effort: Beware the Path of Least Resistance by Indar Maharaj:

The contents of The Eloquence of Effort: Beware the Path of Least Resistance are deeply moored in the principles of Entropy: to wit, the tendency of all things/events to spontaneously degenerate into chaos, unless, of course, there is an infusion of human energy. It is a universal law: chaos is spontaneous; solutions demand effort.
Have you ever wondered why things naturally break up, breakdown, degenerate, depreciate or simply fall apart? Why is Alzheimer’s Disease more prevalent among the lesser educated? Why is physical exercise a vital component to a healthier lifespan? Consider two cars, an old and a new, abandoned under similar conditions. Revisited a 100-years later, the new would deteriorate while the old would disintegrate into untraceable dust. But why not the reverse? As the new car aged into a rusted rattle-trap, the old retrogressed into a spanking new car. Just the way the universe operates, you exclaim. Answers to these questions reside in the forces governing Second Law of Thermodynamics, sometimes referred to as the Law of Entropy. To prevent being submerged under an Entropic tsunami of destruction one must apply personal effort. Failure to do so, can only result in catastrophe. Over 700 years ago, the concept was succinctly captured by the polymath Leonardo da Vinci. He wrote that: “God sells us all things at the price of labor.”
Arguing that dreams are only achievable through sustained effort, the book relies heavily on biographical, philosophical, economic, religious, historical and scientific data. Accordingly, work is the mission; the multiple rewards are the byproducts. More significantly, the pleasure resides in the effort, not the outcome. Against the dark backdrop of malignancies inflicted on society by unrepentant leeches, the benefits of unstinting diligence are sharply focused. The reader is nudged into a higher plane of reality: namely, purposeful effort is rewarding. Hence, regardless of the end-result, effort is never wasted. Conversely, indolence is the bane of progress: the root cause of socio-economic crimes and social chaos. Indeed, corruption in all its diabolical forms is nothing but laziness masquerading as diligence.
Analysis of biographical data sustains the thesis that hard work extends life; indolence shortens it. Moreover, indolence in all its fiendish forms is causally related to personal chaos. The terminally lazy degenerate, Pablo Escobar, validates this principle when he prophetically asserted that, “no drug dealer ever died of old age.” He was right: at age 44, he was slaughtered.
The persuasiveness of the arguments is supported by a wealth of references. Together they form the final authority; they lend credence to the arguments provided.

An epic fantasy of the west…

Hungry darkness, haunted guns, tunnels that move like snakes—the crystal mines of Medicine Rocks, Montana are a place only the bravest and greediest dare. Discovered in 1866, the miraculous rock known as crystal quickly rose to become the most expensive substance on the planet, driving thousands to break the treaties and invade the sacred buffalo lands of the Sioux. A voice that turns men into monsters.

Mary Good Crow hears it. Half white, half Lakota, rejected by both, she’s forged a new life guiding would-be miners through the treacherous caves. To her ears, the crystal sings a beautiful song, one the men she guides would gladly burn her as a witch for hearing. So, when an heiress from Boston arrives with a proposition that could change her life, Mary agrees to push deeper into the caves than she’s ever dared.

But there are secrets buried in the Deep Caves that even Mary doesn’t know. The farther she goes, the closer she gets to the voice that’s been calling her all this time. A voice that could change the bloody story of the West, or destroy it all.

Featured Interview With RUPALI SAINI

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m currently residing at Sri Ganganagar and grew up in the same northernmost city of the Indian state- Rajasthan. I don’t have any pet, willingly, but there is one at my home. A Pomeranian, imposed by my brother, her name is Misty and I’m happened to be growing a secret love for her, please don’t tell this to anyone 🙂
I’m a poet, activist, author and wanderer rambling in the world of my imagination. I’m also a random choreographer and often tap my feet with a story in my mind. When not penning the subtleties of human heart, I’m an assistant professor and a passionate teacher. I believe in promoting learning through questioning. So far my two books have been published, the first is on spirituality, a non-fiction, and the second is this newly published, SHOTS: Tell It Slant, a collection of 25 short shorts.
Before these two, my work has been featured in various journals and anthologies.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’m a bookman from my early childhood but not in a typical sense. I’m not the one who is always on a quest for hunting some good books in his specific genre.
Luckily, till today there is no academic break in my life. So, in one way or other, I’m always working on some project and for the best outcomes, I’m required to do a thorough reading, as much as I can.
So, my reading happens out of necessity and my nature of doing the things in the best way possible makes me read intensively, it is then I enjoy the reading.
Whether it were my course books or the books related to my research, I always digested them to their depths and loved them along the way.
I started writing from my college days when it became difficult to sustain some overflowing emotions in my tiny skull.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
It is really a dilemma to name a few. As I have mentioned that I read to understand the things better for the project I’m working upon, and that makes me a sensitive reader, so with this sensibility I’m always able to derive something substantial from any write-up. In addition, I get influenced with every that writing which attracts me intellectually and also goes straight to heart.
I enjoy reading realistic and spiritual content. (Yes! spirituality is not fantasy.)
My own calling, when it pushes me, writing happens.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
That’s a good question 🙂
‘SHOTS: Tell It Slant’ is a collection of 25 short shorts, each story packs an emotional punch that leaves you in contemplation. You don’t read these stories, you feel them. In this book, I have attempted to portray a variety of characters in a few pages, where you experience the characters’ angst, dread, longing and desperation in a very relatable manner. Please give it a shot!
I’m waiting to hear your views about it…

Portraits as Childfree Wealth by Jay Zigmont, PhD, CFP®

About Featured Book: Portraits as Childfree Wealth: 26 stories about how being Childfree impacts your life, wealth, and finances. by Jay Zigmont, PhD, CFP®

Have you ever wondered what people without children do with all their free time and money? Do you assume that they must have a lot of both? The truth is more complex than that! Childfree people come from as many different backgrounds and life circumstances as people with children do. Some are partnered, and some are not. Some are well-educated, some aren’t. Some are independently wealthy, and some are just scraping by. Dr. Zigmont’s “Portraits of Childfree Wealth” is a collection of 26 vignettes based on interviews with Childfree people. He adds his own significant insights, as both a fellow Childfree professional and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. This book is an eye-opening look at the lives of people in the United States who deliberately chose not to become parents, and if you’re in the same boat, you’ll find a lot to relate to here. If you have children, you’ll learn how the other half lives. And if you’re a finance professional, you’ll see how money still plays a role for people who don’t have to worry about leaving assets to their children.

In Portraits of Childfree Wealth, Dr. Jay Zigmont, CFP®, interviews 26 individuals and couples to understand their lives. Each portrait provides a different perspective on Childfree Wealth from a diverse population across the US. There are stories from people who are barely making ends meet and others who have achieved FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) or FILE (Financial Independence, Live Early). Being Childfree does not automatically make people rich, as we still suffer from income disparities. The difference is that if a Childfree person is barely making ends meet now, they would have drowned if they had a child.

Some key findings:

• The reasons for being Childfree are as varied as the people themselves.
• There are very few or no regrets from people being Childfree.

• Being Childfree does not automatically make you rich.

• There is a relationship between growing up in poverty and poor and being Childfree.
• Childfree Financial Independence is simple: 1. Get out of debt 2. Max out retirement plans.

THE LAST SELF HELP BOOK that you will ever need to be happy by Dr. Don E. Miller

About Featured Book: THE LAST SELF HELP BOOK that you will ever need to be happy by Dr. Don E. Miller

What kind of supreme arrogance allows someone to call their book “The Last Self Help Book: that you will ever need.” It is a catchy title, isn’t it? Maybe it will grab people’s attention. And, what if, it happened to be true? Or at least some part of it turned out to be true? The whole book, in one way or another, is working on the same premise: Control physiological arousal levels so we can be relatively free of most mental illnesses, anxiety, depression and be happy. Dr. Miller’s experience and multiple studies quoted in the book find that depression almost always precedes periods of high tension and anxiety.

Chapter One defines stress and provides multiple ways to reduce tension/stress to be happy. A chapter on parenting that repeatedly shows how anger and harshness drastically compromises the potential for success in children; how to be nice to your kids and still get them to do whatever you want. Want to solve America’s drug problems? See chapter “Teen Rescue.” The Anger Management chapter tells you step-by-step how to turn yourself and other people in your world into nice guys (and girls or ladies). There are two chapters on how to use fantasy in therapy, harking back to millennia-old story-telling techniques.

In the chapter on “Pain” is tension reduction that will reduce pain levels. Ahhh, sleep. The many dangers of not getting enough sleep, are discussed in the Insomnia chapter, along with ways of adding to restful snooze times. Then there is the formula for stopping procrastination. Finally, a chapter on love and some secret reasons (yes, pheromones) why it happens. Dr. Miller wants to apologize in advance for the repetitions. You may read different variations of what the devices in lie detectors do, what we can learn from the measure of tension. Please look at these repetitions here and there, as a way to review some of the important lessons of tension control. It will often be the same advice in different words. Hopefully, repetition will help some concepts stick in your brain better. You may get tired of the “apologize” recommendation for so many different situations, especially anger management. But it turns out this is a very powerful defusing technique and allows you to spend zero time with obnoxious people.

This book includes and ties together information from multiple disciplines including anthropology, neuro-anatomy, various facets of Eastern religion including Zen, biology, physiology, biophysics, chemistry, social science, geology, archeology, meteorology, zoology, human biology, cell biology, psychology, astronomy and a few others. It is hoped that multiple perspectives from multiple disciplines will give a broad, and as inclusive as possible, perspective on humanity.

On Dr. Don Miller’s YouTube Channel, multiple videos on several topics add another whole dimension to the self-help tips in this book. Instead of reading a script in a self-help book that promises to teach you relaxation skills, you can go directly to my YouTube channel and watch relaxation and other videos and be guided through expanded opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in this book. Your life can improve watching these videos as you learn how to break addictions, overcome fear and get yourself motivated. Dr. Miller’s videos will help you on your path of personal development. Dr. Miller’s Sobriety series that is focused on alcoholism, consists of 17 videos – designed to aid in reaching and maintaining sobriety. Also videos on weight control, stop smoking, PTSD, insomnia, procrastination, parenting and relaxation. There are some fun videos. New ones are added periodically.

Following the educational advice in a self-help book can often result in better mental health and even happiness, just as a medical book on healthy habits can improve physical health. But in no way can a self-help book or YouTube video be considered a substitute for treatment with a therapist.

Ephesians by M. J. Kelley II

About Featured Book: Ephesians by M. J. Kelley II

Why this book?

There are many Bible Study options today on the New Testament Epistles. The question is, what makes this book different? Why would you want to commit to this study?

More than anything else, it is the approach that this book series takes that sets it apart from the many fine study resources available today. Similar to how Jesus addressed the seven Churches in the Book of Revelation, this study series will examine the Epistles and present the study as if Jesus is speaking the words to the church—to believers, today.

Jesus extended words of encouragement to the seven Churches in Revelation 2-3, but the focus of His message is more exhortation than encouragement. More than comforting, He challenges. He speaks not as the gentle shepherd in John 10, but as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah1 and conquering King of the Book of Revelation.2 This will be the tone of this study series.

1 Peter 5:8 encourages believers to

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

1 Revelation 5:5

2 Revelation 19:11-16

Revelation 12:12 warns believers that

“…The devil…is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”

These verses remind followers of Christ that this generation bears witness to the fulfillment of the last-days prophecies profiled in Ezekiel 37 and Matthew 24. Satan knows his time is short and is in a fury—prowling around, looking for someone to devour. Church—it’s the fourth quarter and it’s the big game. It’s time to step up, to be all in for the Lord, and to be prepared to finish well for Jesus.

Through this study, I will draw on Scripture to exhort the church today. Like a coach that wants to inspire a good team to overcome setbacks and finish well, I will share truth in love, but also in boldness. A Drill Sargent is not known for being politically correct or exceptionally gentle—a Drill Sargent has a limited time to harden and equip his troops to survive the coming battle. That’s how I see my role.

Evil is on the rise, darkness is falling, governments are crumbling, and economic systems are crashing. And at this critical time in history, the church seems to have lost its way. More than being known as a center for good, prayer, renewed lives, missions, sacrifice, unity, love, wisdom, truth, and miracles, the church is divided and marked by compromise, pettiness, selfishness, showiness, and infighting.
