Featured Interview With Hope LeNoir

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a small town girl who lost her mom at only a few months old, thus the name “Hope.” This has a great influence on my writing about “professional purpose.” I’ve spent time up North and in the South. I love the South because it’s warmer!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Words effect so many. Stories that relate have an even greater impact. I use my words to inspire and build. I wrote all the time, especially random thoughts and speeches. It wasn’t until I graduated from grad school that I began writing professionally.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
“Things Fall Apart” by Chinua Achebe,
“Naked” by David Sadaris, “Beloved” by Toni Morrison and “Who Moved My Cheese” all taught me something new, sent inspiration and was uniquely relative to me. 🙂

Tell us a little about your latest book?
A person’s Professional Purpose is an exciting adventure! My books always aim to support career advancement with a focus on professional purpose. My latest, “Workday Catalyst”, teaches and inspires professionals to engage in an amazing career journey. My words support them on every workday.

Featured Author Vera Harris

Featured Interview With Vera Harris

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hello Everyone! I am Vera Harris but, I am called “Sister” by my family. I am the author of 4 four children’s picture books and one ebook. I enjoy writing, engaging books that teach, encourages, and promote children to pick up a book and read! I live in East Texas with my fur baby girl named, MJ. She thinks she runs the house, so we will not tell her it is me. OK? I am also a retired Army Combat Veteran. I have traveled all over the world where I meet some of the best folks. Life is good and meant to be enjoyed each day.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized my fascination with books a long time ago when I was a little girl. I enjoyed going to the local library in my community and returning with a handful of books. I read mags, newspapers, anything that captured my attention and my imagination. I wrote my first book that was published in 2014 and continue to improve every day.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have so many to name. Sister Souljah, Mary Monroe, Mary Morrison, Tayari Jones, E.Lynn Harris, Eric Jerome Dickey, Toni Morrison, Kimberly Roby, Omar Epps, Nora Hurston, Brenda Jackson, Francis Ray, Brenda Jenkins, Walter Mosley, etc. etc. I am inspired to write because of my grandson.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Monica and Michelle follow the story of twin sisters, Monica and Michelle Williams. They currently live in Germany with their parents who are from North Carolina and both serve in the U. S. Air Force. Monica and Michelle are accustomed to their parents receiving moving orders to new and exciting locations. And this time they have to move to Spain. While Michelle is happy about their big move, Monica is not. She refuses to move if it means having to leave her science project team, or to leave the position of a head cheerleader of her cheering squad. Throughout the course of the book, Monica learns how to deal with her sadness, confusion and worry in a positive way. While initially saddened by the move, she learns that despite leaving some things behind there will be many things her family will share in their new home and she realizes the most important thing is being together.

This simple story was written to help children visualize where they are going, thereby relieving some of the anxiety associated with relocation. This book uses colorful, and expressive images that go along with simple text to help children connect words and emotions. Kids will identify with Monica’s character and that can help children realize that they are not the only one having to deal with managing a move.

Featured Interview With Jan Turk Petrie

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Although I’ve lived in London and other UK towns and cities, I’m now am lucky enough to live in the Cotswolds – a rural area in southern England where there are rolling hills and honey coloured stone cottages.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved stories and was a voracious reader at quite an early age. I studied English Literature as an undergraduate and went on to become an English teacher. About ten years ago I decided to fulfil my ambition of becoming a writers and went back to university to do a masters in creative writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read widely in a variety of genres. I’m a big fan of Margaret Atwood, Kate Atkinson, Philip Roth, Kurt Vonnegut and Jennifer Egan to name but a few – authors who are prepared to take risks in their writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
‘Towards the Vanishing Point’ is a domestic thriller. It was inspired by more than one true story. Essentially, it’s about a young woman who becomes involved with a superficially charming man with a far more sinister side to him.

Featured Author Morgan St. James

Featured Interview With Morgan St. James

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I lived in Chicago until I was nine years old. My family made a disastrous ten-month move to Miami, and we were back in Chicago before the year was out. Just when I was ready to begin high school (4 year high school in Chicago at that time) we moved to LA where I lived until I relocated to Las Vegas. And, no, Las Vegas is not just the famous glitzy Strip. We have wonderful residential communities and life here, believe it or not, is peaceful and normal for me. In 2013 I rescued my wonderful dog Dylan. He is part Cocker and part Golden Retriever and is the light of my life. He has been dubbed assistant editor, because he takes his position under my desk when I am writing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always been a reader. In fact I was reading at eighth grade level when I was in the second grade. For many years as a child I literally inhaled any book about dogs and Nancy Drew. My first published piece of writing was not a book, but an article in Designer’s West magazine co-authored with my design partner, Carol LeVeque. After that I went on to write several more magazine and newspaper articles, but I hadn’t written fiction. My sister, Phyllice Bradner, was also a published writer but not in fiction. Born of our love of humorous mysteries, we decided to collaborate on our own mystery series. With the publication of “A Corpse in the Soup,” the first Silver Sisters Mystery, my fiction writing career was launched. I was 66 when it was published in 2006. I now have 18 books in publication. The bonus? My sister and I became best friends through our writing together.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Although I read other genres, and have actually written in other genres, mystery with some level of humor will always be my favorite. However, I also like thrillers, short story anthologies for that quick read, and humor. My sister and I were originally inspired by writers like Lillian Jackson Braun, Mary Daheim and Jill Churchill. Then my range expanded and I love books by Michael Connelley, Robert Crais, John Lescroart, Nora Roberts, and the list goes on.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is “Scammed” the fifth book in the Revenge is Fun series. It began with a desire to use a particular character in a book so I could kill him off, but I couldn’t seem to come up with the right plot. It took 14 years for the plot of “Scammed” to develop. You see, I had an awful experience with a greedy, devious HOA president who wound up costing me $40,000 in attorney’s fees and a ton of stress to get my construction defaults repaired after the HOA won a $1.9 Million lawsuit against the developer. And, I was the one who got the lawsuit started. The complex was a 4-story condo building with 4 units on each floor and our 3,000 ft. single family home behind that building. It was built on land once owned by MGM. The big building was getting fixed, but he led the whole HOA in trying not to fix our house although our foundation was sinking and walls were cracking. I wanted to kill him in print. One of the advantages of being an author is rubbing someone out without worrying about going to prison. While I was still trying to develop just the right plot, he had the nerve to really die. No kidding. So here is the premise of “Scammed.” Life in the upscale Los Angeles area community of the Venice Canals takes an ominous turn when retired doctor Al Shady and his wife Barbara Shady, Vice President and Treasurer of the Venice Canals HOA, disappear after a meeting. The cops are on it, but looking in all the wrong places. What appeared to be home invasion and kidnapping turns out to be so much more including murder. Get ready for characters from different books in this series to come together to dig the dirt. As fate would have it, advertising agency owner Cameron Harson from GETTING EVEN and RIPOFF– the first and second book in this series–and former FBI agent turned author Danny Garrett from BUMPING OFF FAT VINNY, the fourth book, are neighbors who didn’t know each other. A mutual friend and neighbor–89-year-old retired Colonel Michael Thompson introduces them at an HOA meeting where the main focus was to celebrate the settlement of a multi-million dollar suit for construction default against developers who built mini-mansions and polluted the canals in the process. When the trio walks home together along Grand Canal, accompanied by the Colonel’s aged Afghan Hound Clarence, something looks suspicious at the Shady home on the other side of the canal. They cross over the bridge to investigate and find the house door ajar, the house is in a shambles and the Shadys are missing. With their backgrounds in investigating crimes, they are tempted to see what they can uncover, but should they?

Featured Author KC Freeman

Featured Interview With KC Freeman

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a fantasy/paranormal romance writer. Currently, I live in Charlotte, NC with my husband and five children.
I left the corporate world behind in Washington, DC to raise my children in NC. Once they all became school age, I was able to reconnect with my first love — writing.
When I’m not writing, I am running my children to practices, football games, swim meets, wrestling tournaments, and generally all over town. In my spare time…who are we kidding? I don’t have any of that.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated with books and with writing my own stories. I started out very young picking away on my mom’s electric typewriter – crafting screenplays, short stories, poems, etc. It was only when life got in the way (college, career, grad school, family) that I had to tuck away my writing dreams for a spell. Now, I’m back fully committed to writing, and reading everything I can get my hands on.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors – well, Stephen King is the king for a reason! I remember waiting anxiously every year for a new hardcover book from him. And now they come out faster than I can finish reading one. Anne Rice brought a new perspective on the supernatural where these creatures had something akin to humanity. This propelled me to adopt a similar writing style where all creatures, good and bad/human or not, have traits we can all connect with.
My favorite genres to read are paranormal (anything to do with angels, demons, fairies, gargoyles, not so much vampires and shifters but I do read these as well) and historical fiction (anything from the Tudor dynasty or ancient Egypt).

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Rekindled Prophecy is the first book in the Greylyn the Guardian Angel series. Book 2, working title “Revelations” is with the editor now. It’s a fantasy/paranormal novel (series) with some steamy romance (but not too steamy so Young Adult – ages 15+ and New Adult can read it without warning labels) between two sworn enemies. Greylyn is faced with two impossible choices – Help the bad guy in order to save the innocent humans or leave the innocent humans in dire peril from Hell’s most notorious fallen angel (this guy makes Lucifer look like Mr. Rodgers); and trusting her worst enemy with protecting those she has been chosen to save.

Guardian angel, Greylyn saves innocent humans from their own inner demons or the more nefarious real ones. She’s overdue for some rest and relaxation, but upon finding her archenemy already entrenched at an authentic Irish bed and breakfast, she knows her vacation is over before it ever starts.

Enemies for over four centuries, Greylyn has fought the dark guardian, Kael; and fought her desire for him. This time, however, she must work with the dashing dark guardian to protect innocent lives. It’s a deadly gamble. One she has no choice but to take.

But the situation is far more treacherous than she realizes as a notorious fallen archangel holds the lives of a mother and her unborn child over Greylyn’s head to force her to consummate a dormant, but deadly prophecy. One so deadly that Heaven didn’t even write it down.

Rekindled Prophecy: Greylyn the Guardian Angel is a fantasy/paranormal novel with strong undertones of romance and sex appeal between two enemies – one working for Heaven, the other working for Hell.

Featured Author Trana Mathews

Featured Interview With Trana Mathews

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m Diane Hildebrandt. Trana Mathews is my pen name. I grew up in Northwest Indiana and graduated from IUN when I was age fifty. When I retired, I moved 1800 miles away and settled in beautiful southeast Arizona. When my children were growing up, we had 2 dogs and 3 cats. Now I have only 1 cat, named “Machiatto”, who agreed to adopt me.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began reading in the fifth grade when I became hooked on the Nancy Drew mysteries. For many years, I suppressed the urge to write. Who wants to get up at 1 or 2 in the morning when they must catch the early train for work? Not me! I started writing after I retired when I took the NaNoWriMo 50,000 word challenge in November 2016.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My choice of genres has changed over the decades. I enjoy reading fantasy, historical fiction, horror, and sci-fi. I don’t read romance novels. The bigger the book, the better because I like something I can sink my teeth into! Small books are just a light snack. Give me a good series, and I’m in heaven 😉

A few of my favorite authors (in no particular order) are Susan Howatch, Stephen King, Orson Scott Card, Arthur Clarke, David McCullough, Taylor Caldwell, Robert Jordan, L.E. Modesitt, Jr., Richard Adams and Douglas Adams. Are those enough names?

I’ve been inspired by many authors. Those I named above plus hundreds of others.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I began researching in October 2016 then writing in November 2016. “The Mathews Family: Mathews Family Saga Book 1” is a coming-of-age story as much as historical fiction. Dr. Increase Mathews told his children and grandchildren that his first memory was of the ringing bells of 1776, and this is where my novel begins. Many of Increase’s male relatives join the Continental Army while he grows up at home on the farm. When the Revolutionary War ends, central Massachusetts experiences turbulence during Shays’s Rebellion and a battle occurs in their small town. His brother, sister and her husband, and their uncle are among the first settlers to the Northwest Territory in 1788. I’ve included transcripts of actual letters written between relatives thanks to the Special Collections Department at Marietta College.

When I was a teenager I started writing songs which turned into writing poetry. I wrote over the years and kept them all and compiled them into this epic poetry book.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
life and imagination are what inspire me to write. I don’t read many full books just short posts and paragraphs. I’m more of an online reader that a paper reader.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
It’s a poetry book that I finally took a leap of faith to publish. I have had nothing nut positive reviews from people so I’m glad I finally released it. It has wild tales that are all original and will take you on a journey like you’ve never imagined.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
It’s always a pleasure to introduce oneself, to the interview team of such a renowned magazine! I’m Souhardya De, born in 2004, in the suburban district of Midnapore, in West Bengal, India. I’m 16 years old and live with my parents, my father being a professor at the nearby college and my mother being a teacher.
And well? For pets? I’m really not good at keeping pets! Probably gonna get a dog in the coming years!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was a writing enthusiast since the beginning of times. It was my father who first introduced me to the world of English, when I was a mere boy of 6 months. And consequently, my English developed better than my native language, Bengali.
I authored a book, The Scion of Suryavansh, having published it with Amazon, United States, when I was about 13 years old. This was my first poetry epic, being purely focussed on events of the Valmiki Ramayana. It was in 2019, when I published my second book, The Chronicles of Suryavansh, a drama on Lord Rama, in English and French, again from Amazon USA.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m a true fan of Dr. Shashi Tharoor and am always reading him! Besides, I’m into Chetan Bhagat, Durjoy Datta and other such romantic authors, cause I don’t take myself too good at it!!!
I’m mostly into Classics, Historical fiction and. Mythology.
My father always encourages me in my writings and my mother in my illustrations!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Chronicles Of Suryavansh, ISBN: 9781797920498
As per the India Book of Records, the book is the first book to be written on Ramayana, in English and French, in the form of drama. The book was also highlighted when I won the Nabyashrote Sahitya Samman Purashkar 2019. For this publication and my contribution to classics, I was awarded the Fellowship of The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the Highest honour in South Asian History and Culture, at 16.
It took me an approximate one and a half year to complete the entire thing!
After the publication of the book, I was nominated for the Crossbook Awards 2019. I was elected as a Coordinator at the Statesman News Agency, for their weekly magazine, VOICES, where I’m a frequent contributor, writing on relevant historical, and socio economic issues. I’m also a columnist at The Citizen, where I write on Gender Equality.

Featured Interview With Arnittress Dowdy

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in New York, outside of the city. I still currently live in New York with my two boys.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I fell in love with poetry when I was about eight. I was amazed at how you could express your feelings, create a scene and tell a story through poetry. From there I started writing poems to express to my mom how much I loved her but then later learned that writing was how I best expressed myself. I was about nine or ten when I read her first romance novel, Once Is Not Enough by Jacqueline Susann. I had no business reading that book at that age but I did and was thrilled when I discovered that they made it into a movie. I read that book 1987/88 and discovered the movie in 2009.
Growing up I wasn’t consistent with writing, I mean I kept journals but creatively, I wasn’t consist until after I graduated from high school. I started experiencing emotions/feelings that I didn’t understand and that’s when I really dove into writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I honestly don’t have a favorite author, I just love reading good books no matter the author or genre. This might sound crazy but my feelings inspire me to write.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Dreamtini II: The Reality is the follow-up to my first novel Dreamtini.

Dreamtini is actually a drink that the main character created. Her ‘calgon take me away’ but in a drink. In Dreamtini, Missy was two weeks away from getting married when her ex-boyfriend returned and tried to get her to either postpone or call off her wedding. So for two weeks she’s caught in a battle between following her heart and fighting temptation.

Dreamtini II: The Reality answers the questions that Dreamtini left you wondering about. Did she follow her heart and fight off temptation. Friendships come to an end, new relationships are formed and a baby is born.

Featured Interview With JoMarie DeGioia

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Connecticut, but have been living in Florida for years now. I currently have two little dogs, named after characters from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice! Darcy and Bennet are very loyal and loving. They were both rescues, as all of our pets have been. Darcy took a little time to warm up. Hmm, sounds like a certain hero we all know and love?

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read from an early age, and fell in love with my mother’s Gothic Romances like Victoria Holt and Philippa Carr. I even wrote a book in third grade that my mother typed and had bound for me! It was about a ghost living in a greenhouse, very sad and romantic. Hmm, maybe I should look to that story for an update, lol. I’ve been writing toward publication for over 20 years now, and have published over 40 Romances!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love the classics, Jane Austen, the Brontes, etc., so my first love is Historical Romance. I also enjoy Contemporary Romantic Comedies. Something else has to be going on in addition to the romance for me, though. A touch of mystery, some angst that the hero or heroine is dragging around, family secrets that come to light. I’ve been inspired by Teresa Medeiros, Julie Garwood, Catherine Colter, Julia Quinn, just to name a few. For Contemporaries I have loved Susan Mallery and Sherryl Woods, and really enjoy a series where characters from past books come back to say hello! I also need a strong heroine who isn’t afraid to admit she needs the hero, and vice versa.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is an Historical Romance, the second in my Gentlemen Undercover series and titled A Hero and a Rogue. These standalone romances have elements of mystery, featuring Regency Private Eyes! Very noir, lots of secrets, and undeniable attraction!

Here’s the blurb:
A gentleman who solves the most challenging cases
A young woman who keeps her own secrets close
Will the threat of danger draw them closer together?
Or will he let his painful past keep him from seeing his future?

Robert Shelby was beaten, betrayed, and held prisoner for months. Now, a year after his rescue, he loses himself in his work. A gifted private investigator, he takes cases of missing persons and missing goods. He turns a blind eye to smugglers who ply their trade close to his estate in Sussex, leaving the matter to the law. He also seeks to ignore the constable’s inquisitive daughter, despite his attraction to her.

Diana Ashley keeps watch over her brother as he works with the smugglers on the River Arun. She made a promise to her late mother to see to his safety and her father, the constable, cannot know of her brother’s involvement or her concealment of it. She is tired of her duty, and longs to convince her brother to give up the dangerous work. One night Robert finds her on the bluff near his home, but despite his probing questions she won’t reveal the true reason for her nightly vigils.

There is more than smuggling going on in Sussex, and when her brother is accused of a horrible crime she goes to Robert for help clearing his name. Mutual attraction swiftly turns to passion, and she suspects that her heart is in more danger than she herself had ever been while keeping an eye on her brother. Robert is drawn to her sweetness, beauty, and quick mind, but believes she is better off without a scarred man like him.

Can Robert make room in his heart for her?
Or will past pain and betrayal drive him to deny the love they share?

Robert demanded a book of his own, after being central to the plot in the previous Gentlemen Undercover book. I loved giving him a heroine who could be his match!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but was raised in the countryside. I left Brazil in 2004 and have lived in Portugal, UK, Spain and France, where I am now.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I became fascinated with books from the moment I learned to read. I started writing poetry at 10! In my teens, I started writing tales, which are still my writing style. I like short stories like the one you can find in tales.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
In the past, for my comedy I took inspiration in a Brazilian author called Luis Fernando Verissimo. Before his humored books, my favorite genre was (and still is) crime and detective stories (translated or national). For my next tales, though, I take inspiration on Margareth Artwood with her The Handmade Tales and feminist theory.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I had been trying out jokes on Twitter for sometime now. When I lived in UK, I aspired to be a stand-up comedian, but never had the chance. Last year, I was quitting smoking and thought that some tips were really silly. Instead of giving up, I decided to mock these tips. That’s what The Grumpy Guide to Quit Smoking is about.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Liela Marie Fuller. I was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey and I now live in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I come from a loving family and I was primarily raised by my Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. I learned so much from these amazing women but growing up, most of what they taught me were not something I welcomed. They taught me how to cook, clean, and things I never thought I would use, like how to tie a tie. It was at their kitchen table where my love for writing began; My Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother lived together for a long time. Back then my stories were simple ones, fairy tales mostly but I found my true voice in high school. What was once short fairy tales, became poetic words that allowed me to express love, fear, joy, and sadness. Writing helped me through one of the hardest times in my life – losing my first love. After processing that loss, I realized that I found my voice through writing and I have not stopped writing, it’s just taken on many forms.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing in elementary school around age 7. I started making up stories about princesses and princes because like most little girls I was fascinated with the idea of a knight in shining armor so that’s what my stories were all about. As I grew up, my writing developed into other areas.

My fascination with books started in high school. I fell in love with books like Beowulf, Macbeth, and The Autobiography of Malcolm X. I devoured books and even now if I see a book, I want I add it to my list of books to read. Now, I have an Amazon wants list full of books but back then I would visit the library frequently to get new books. I love books so much that my dream home has a large library full of books, chairs, and bean bag chairs for people to relax and read. In fact, any home I purchase will need to have a space for my books.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors to read change frequently as I discover new authors but here are a few from my current list: Robert Herjavec, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, Zari Banks, Mark Batterson, William Shakespeare, and John Eckhardt.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called Bag Lady. It’s a short story that I wrote after prayer several years ago. I was thinking about all the baggage we tend to carry around with us and how if we are not careful that baggage can affect other areas of our lives. Bag Lady is my first short story and I originally intended for it to be a play, but after sitting on it for a while, I released it as a short story and the readers love it. The main character, Bag Lady, has received an invitation to a new place and it’s something she’s been praying for but when she gets the invitation, the invitee tells her she must leave her baggage behind. The story follows her reluctance to give away what she’s carried around for so long.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
In the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in a town famous for floods and unemployment. Johnstown, Pennsylvania. After graduation, I went to college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When I graduated from LaRoche University with a Bachelor’s in Advertising and Design I moved to Dallas, Texas where I currently live. Mia is my one-hundred and ten pound Great Pyrenees and Ellie is my six-pound Papillion.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
After spending over forty years in the ad world creating campaigns for some of the largest to the smallest brands I took time off to write about some of those experiences taking creative liberties by turning them into fiction novels.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have no favorite authors. I prefer Fiction. Elmore Leonard is my favorite for dialogue style.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
DAY TWO: Leave no enemy alive, part-two of the Kachada Series is going through the third round of proofreading as I type this. I hope to have it published by March of 2020.

Right behind that is novel about a cross-section of emotionally wounded urban nomads and lost souls who learn first hand that one misstep can lead you back to the devil’s doorstep of the Hollywood Club where the journeys of the strange are welcomed. The Hollywood Club is written as a Frame Story and I promote it as a modern-day “Twilight Zone.”

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a proud author, responsible for a number of fantasy novels, and fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is my all-time inspiration, mixed in with a little bit of Eminem and some faint remnants of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. When I began writing, I started in horror, but somehow drifted into thriller and fantasy. I love the 1988 movie, “Heathers.” I was born and raised in Michigan, but traveled across the country to where I currently reside, in Texas.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books. When I was little, i used to love breaking down the “happy endings” of fairy tales. In elementary school, I used to write my own short stories about cats going on adventures that my principal would read at least once a week.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Oh, boy. I could fill pages with this question!
I’ll keep it simple though.

1. Lynn Weingarten
2. Stephen King
3. Ruth Ware
4. Mary Kubica
5. Carissa Ann Lynch
6. Caroline Kepnes
7. Marissa Meyer
8. Ryan Green
9. Gillian Flynn

Overall, my favorite genre to read is psychological fiction, but anything dark and twisty keeps my attention.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is called Dungeons and Demons. It’s a YA horror that will be featured in “The Soul’s Day Boxset” published by FireQuill Publishing in October 2020.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the town of Chico, California, where the original Errol Flynn “Robin Hood” movie was filmed, and grew up in the famously destroyed-by-fire town of Paradise. After graduating from college, I moved to Los Angeles to try to make it big in the music industry. My husband did make it big, and I eventually followed my dream of being a writer.

Against my wishes (I was always a cat person), our family adopted a pug, and I fell in love with him. I currently own Kitten Kaboodle, a feral cat I tamed, and am home to my mom’s Maltese rescue, Peanut.

I’m a USA Today bestselling author of swashbuckling “medieval action-adventure romances,” mostly set in Scotland, with 24 books published in six languages. But before I was a medieval matchmaker, I rocked in an all-girl band called The Pinups on CBS Records, did voiceovers for the MTV animated series, “The Maxx,” Diablo and Starcraft videogames, and Star Wars audio adventures, and married a rock star. These days I love to transport readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is alive and well!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
From as young as I can remember, I was that precocious child who maxed out her library card every week. Naturally shy and a bit ahead of my age, I loved the way books spoke to me in a language I could understand. I started writing early too, mostly poetry. My first book was an illustrated medieval adventure featuring an unbeknownst-to-me international cast of Jacques, Pedro, and Steve.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like a wide variety of authors. I grew up on the historical romances of Jude Deveraux, Julie Garwood, and Tanya Anne Crosby, and I’m currently eating up Erica Ridley’s stories. But I also love Dean Koontz’s horror, Malcolm Gladwell’s essays, and classic Ray Bradbury.

When it comes to inspiration, I’m often drawn to screenwriters as well. One of my favorites is Joss Whedon, who masterfully mixes drama with humor and empowered women with flawed heroes.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The last full-length novel I published was “Bride of Fire.” The Warrior Maids of Rivenloch is my most popular series, and readers have been pestering me to do a sequel. So this is Book 1 of The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch, featuring the daughter of Helena and Colin from “Captive Heart.”

Sassy lass Jenefer du Lac is determined to seize the abandoned castle and land adjoining Rivenloch before the king’s chosen Highlander can lay claim to it. But Morgan Mor mac Giric has just lost his wife in childbirth, and he’s not about to lose his inheritance as well. It will take a deadly threat from Morgan’s past to awaken the flame between them and turn Jenefer into the fiery champion of his heart.

Featured Author Chris Karlsen

Featured Interview With Chris Karlsen

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a retired police detective. I started with a major urban agency in the mid 1970’s when law enforcement was beginning to allow women to work patrol cars. I later moved back to California in 1980 and started with another agency in the Los Angeles area. I was born and raised in Chicago until my late teens when my family moved to California. I attended UCLA and graduated with a business degree. I currently live in the Pacific Northwest. My husband and I are huge animal lovers. We have had four horses (3 were rescues). They have all passes away. We have four rescue dogs now we adore-there’s our Dobie “Rita”, our black Lab “Sascha”, our Heeler/Sheperd mix “Happy” and our Chiweenie, “Trooper.”

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My mother was a voracious reader and I developed a love for reading at about 12. I’m an only child and spent a lot of time alone. Books were a wonderful way to go to other places with the characters. It was the same with movies for me. My imagination ran rampant with both books and movies.
I started writing late. I never seem to have the time to sit and write. After I retired I decided it was time to write the story that had been sitting in the back of my mind for ages.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Bernard Cornwell writes the most visceral and dynamic battle scenes. In my Knights in Time series the Battle of Poitiers (1356) connects all the heroes. I tried to recreate the visual strength of Cornwell’s work.
Julie Anne Long writes wonderful romances. I am not terribly comfortable writing love scenes and read through hers to give me direction.
Joe Wambaugh writes the best cop stories but he was a cop with LAPD. His characters are filled with humor and pathos. I never wanted to write contemporary cop stories but love writing my historical suspense books, The Bloodstone series. I am inspired by the complexity of Wambaugh’s police officers.
I read historicals, romances, and some suspense/thrillers.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is A Venomous Love, which is book three in my Bloodstone series. The series is set in Victorian London. Several years ago a London Metropolitan Police officer told me about a time when she was vacationing in Morocco and a British couple came running into the hotel lobby claiming they’d just been robbed at snake-point. I though that was an interesting tale and tucked it away for the day I might use it in a book. A Venomous Love is about a young woman who is attacked by a snake wielding man and later stalked by him. My series detective, Rudyard Bloodstone, realizes she needs protection the department can’t provide due to manpower. He refers his brother to her as a bodyguard. (There are some hints at an attraction between them and I hope to do a follow up book where I can develop that element. ) Bloodstone and his partner are hampered by lack of evidence and under a time crunch as the crime has drawn the attention of Scotland Yard. If Bloodstone and partner cannot solve the case is a short timespan, the Yard will take over, a failure the detective partners and their supervisor dread.

I am a slow writer and the story took eight months to write but that includes research time. I do a tremendous amount of research for all my books. I verify that language I use is common to the time and not an Americanism. I look into what well known restaurants were in London in 1880′-90’s. I research clothing, foods, special locations like the Regent’s Park Zoo or Battersea Park, the British Museum’s exhibits, music hall songs of the time, and anything I am not certain about describing. My protagonist, Rudyard Bloodstone, served in the army for ten years. He won a Victoria Cross for courage he showed in the Battle of Rorke’s Drift. He doesn’t like discussing the medal and the battle as he doesn’t consider himself a hero. He has a love interest, Honeysuckle Flowers, who is music hall star. I introduced Rudyard’s brother, Will, in the last book, Snifter of Death. For this new book I brought him back and gave him more page time as he is a character that has been very popular with my critique group. He’s likeable and good looking, like Rudyard. Both have been fun to write. Over the course if the three books I have tried to fill Rudyard’s world with a variety of friends, family and acquaintances. I thoroughly enjoy populating his world with all kinds of people. There is a fourth book with Rudyard and Honeysuckle but it isn’t one where he is acting as a detective. I wrote it for a holiday anthology a year ago. It is a novella called “Choosing Heart or Home.” Rudyard brings Honeysuckle home to his family in Wales at Christmas. Things don’t go as planned. It is a sweet holiday story where I introduce his parents, the small town in Wales he grew up, and also I bring in her parents.

Featured Interview With Nancy Roe

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a Midwest farm girl at heart, currently living in Memphis, Tennessee. Will be building my dream home in the spring of 2020. My favorite animals are flamingos (have a tattoo on my ankle), giraffes, and owls. I love playing bridge, crocheting, knitting, cooking, making lists, and organizing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
In my sixth-grade autobiography, I wrote I wanted to be an author. I finally self-published my first book at fifty. I’ve always loved reading mystery novels, and in January 2020 published my fourth mystery. Dreams do come true!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I don’t necessarily have favorite writers. I love to read mysteries, but read a variety of genres in my book club. It’s good to expand your horizons and read something you wouldn’t normally read.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Accident started with the main character, Darnell Dixon. The small town is loosely based the town of Galena, Illinois. I love visiting the town for its shopping and food. I have a fondness for secrets in the lives of my protagonists that come to light when the initial incident happens. Two of my bridge-playing friends wanted their names in the book, so I made them twins. I’ll be interested to hear how they liked their characters.
