Featured Interview With Paz Ellis

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in New Jersey and I am still a Jersey girl at heart. I now live on the west coast of Florida with my husband and two sons. We moved here after living on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is beautiful but it lacked my happy place… the beach! I have a writing companion named, Remi. He is a ten-pound Maltipoo that thinks he is a two-hundred-pound wolf!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I grew up in a household of voracious readers. My father used to write Cuban folk songs and one of my uncles is a poet. Like my older sister, I kept journals from an early age and wrote poems and short stories. When I was about 12 years old my mother bought me my first hardcover book. It was a beautiful copy of “Little Women.” I looked at it and realized my name would be on a book cover one day. However, my first book was a product of grief. I wrote a memoir several months after my mother passed away and I have not stopped since that day.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Ayn Rand, Jeanette Walls, Amy Harmon, Ken Follet, Ernest Hemingway, Frank McCourt and so many more! I love memoirs and historical fiction, and all the classics.

I am inspired by people, by love, and by life. All my books thus far have a piece of me or my family history as the inspiration or springboard.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Plantains and the Seven Plagues- A memoir: Half-Dominican, Half-Cuban, and Full Life” is a collection of memories, stories, love, pain, grief, and family connections. As a child born to a Dominican mother and Cuban father, I struggled with their assimilation as they became hyphenated-Americans as well as my own hyphenations. There were multiple moves, school bullies, few friends, and a large, loving family to help me find my way and grow into the person I am. Inspired by the recent passing of my mother, I found myself entrenched in the past looking for answers and resolution to my grief. The result is this memoir that I dedicate to the memory of my loving parents.

It was a surprisingly smooth quick book to write. I was so lost after I lost my mother that I began writing the stories my parents had told me about their lives when they moved to New York. I interviewed my uncle, my mother’s only living brother to get more details about their difficult childhood in the Dominican Republic. Before I knew what was happening, I had written a book. A few months later I wrote my second book, “Just Finn” about a young man with Asperger syndrome, inspired by my brother who also struggles with Asperger syndrome.

Featured Interview With Kaye D. Schmitz

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. While my immediate family has either passed away or left the area, I still have several cousins and many, many high school friends I continue to keep up with even though it’s been decades since we graduated. For the past 40 years, I have lived in Florida, the last 15 of which I have spent just north of beautiful, ancient St. Augustine. I am a regular contributor to some of our local magazines and spend as much time as possible with friends, children, and grandchildren.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My mother was an avid reader and made me one as well. She read to me right from the very beginning and I had a huge collection of Little Golden Books–which, sadly, got destroyed when they passed to my little brother. But when I had children and grandchildren, we built the collection back up again and I loved revisiting some of my favorite stories with them. We had the complete Dr. Seuss collection, too, and when I write poetry, my poems still tend to emulate the Seussian-style.

I have also always been a writer, and was first published at the age of ten-years-old, when my flower-filled fantasy, “The Garden,” was printed in my small hometown newspaper. I wrote short stories and poems during my teens and early twenties, and then dryer stuff in the form of business proposals and non-profit grant requests during the bulk of my working years. But when I visited an ancient cemetery in Midway, Georgia, one of the spirits there reached out to me and my first novel, THE CONSORT CONSPIRACY, was born. Now that I am retired, my newest novel, ON DEADLY GROUNDS, the first in a series, will be released on May 8. So far, my books are suspense with history and mystery woven in. I say so far, because one of the next books I will write is a vampire story with quite a wonderful twist.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
In my early days, I read everything from Sidney Sheldon to Danielle Steele, but tired of Danielle’s formulaic writing and the sex in Sidney Sheldon’s books finally outweighed the stories, so I gave them up, too. My last several years have been focused on thriller writers with Dan Brown, David Morrell, and Steve Berry as my favorites. I have had the pleasure to meet many authors at various conferences, David Morrell and Heather Graham among them. But my real favorite is Steve Berry, who also happens to be a neighbor and a friend. Steve, in fact, gave me a cover blurb for my newest book. I am inspired by prolific writers Kristin Hannah and Diana Gabaldon, however, I am fascinated by debut author Delia Owens. They all–the women, especially–inspire me to keep going on days when I look at what I wrote the day before and declare it “garbage.” I have learned that every writer goes through periods of that, so I keep plowing ahead. And it all works. Eventually.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
ON DEADLY GROUNDS is my newest book and is the first in a “Deadly” series, with the second book–the one I’m working on now, titled FROM DEADLY TIES. This series is led by strong heroine, Mattie Maguire, who, after a traumatic event in her life, returned home to her small town in North Carolina, where she lives close to her parents and grandparents. Through her efforts, her hometown has been chosen for the site of the next International G7 Summit when it cycles back to the states in 2020. Here is a sneak preview of the books’ description:

“On the eve of an international G7 Summit, event coordinator Mattie Maguire discovers that the venue, a century-old estate close to Asheville, NC, is more than simply a picturesque setting. It is also the center of political conspiracies involving a ruthless Russian spy ring that will stop at nothing to steal the massive fortune they believe to be hidden there. The search intensifies and a rogue Russian agent attacks Mattie’s grandmother, still living on the estate. She hovers in a coma, barely clinging to life.

As Mattie struggles to protect her family and ensure a safe event for the most important leaders in the world, her discovery of a fraudulent heir to the estate puts her own life in danger as well. But when her eighty-five-year-old grandfather is kidnapped and held at gunpoint, her path becomes clear. Despite her fear, she must locate the only person who has the information the Russians seek—the estate’s rightful heir, hidden away for decades after the murder of his father. But will the true owner’s return to his childhood home put his life in danger, too?”

It only took me about six months to write this book, but more than a year to do the rewrites. And even more rewrites after I got my publishing contract. That’s just the way of the business. At least for us newer authors. But that’s okay. I trust my editor completely and I have recognized that each new iteration has made for a stronger, better story line. I’m looking forward to working with them again on the rest of the series. The best news is, we’re currently offering a special on the e-book for only 99 cents, which can be purchased at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084CSYGNK/. I hope you will take advantage of this great offer and join me for all of Mattie’s adventures.

Featured Interview With ANR

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have lived in Ohio my entire life, though bouncing around different spots of it as I grew.
I come from a family of writers, so I suppose being an author was inevitable. Though, I think I’ve gotten further than most of my family.
I now reside in Lawrence County, Ohio on a homestead with my three sisters, parents, two dogs, one cat, five rabbits, six hens, and one rooster.
How I manage to fit being an author into my life, is beyond me.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing in 2017, which I guess would have made me… 12 years old at the time.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like to read fantasy and romance, most particularly, the Twilight Saga.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My most recent would be “Girl of Puzzles” It is a romance novella that is out for pre-order. But I would consider that my most recent. And I wrote it because I wanted to prove that you can have love without lust. So I thought that a way to prove looks aren’t important was to have a book about a *SPOILER* blind girl who can’t see her lover. Her emotions are purely based on fate.

Featured Interview With Phyllis H. Moore

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Phyllis H. Moore is a native Texan, raised in rural South Texas. She has a master’s degree in social work and retired from that career in 2004 when she bought and restored an historic house to operate a bed and breakfast. She’s met many characters in her life and always wanted to use that inspiration in storytelling. Strong females are the protagonists in all of her tales and there is usually a social issue or two to tackle. Phyllis enjoys resilient children in “coming of age” stories, feisty, flawed adults who continue to learn their way in the world, and characters who discover their authentic selves after years of living to please others. Recently, she’s enjoyed writing a series of mysteries, but her love is a Texas gothic with scoundrels and church ladies. She retired to Galveston Island Texas and lives there with her husband, and an adopted mutt, Savannah.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember not reading. I always had a book to read, especially during the summers for nap time, from the public library. I enjoy fiction, especially historical fiction and nonfiction. I loved being introduced to the classics in school. I didn’t explore writing until I was 62 and living on an isolated ranch in South Texas. I started doing it to pass the time, but I became addicted when characters would continue to talk to me and inspire me to tell their stories.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
The first novel I feel in love with was Rebecca, by Daphne DuMaurier. I like the southern authors, Faulkner, Somerset Maughm, Steinbeck, Fitzgerald. Now, I like mostly female authors, especially magical realism, like Alice Hoffman, and Sarah Addison Allen. I’m currently reading Kristin Hannah. I’ve enjoyed all of her books. When I was younger, I read all of Stephen King’s books. I like a scary story, not gore, but a nail-bitter. Love Rosamunde Pilcher’s books. I think I’ve read every one, specially The Shell Seekers.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I usually write two books a year, but this year has been different. You would think a pandemic and social isolation would give me plenty of time to write, but it’s been hard to focus. My son goes to work in a hospital every day and that’s worrisome. However, I have settled down to focus some. I don’t force myself because it’s something I love to do when I’m ready. Currently, I’m working on the fourth book in a series of cozy mysteries. Meg Miller is the amateur sleuth. She doesn’t look for crimes, they find her. I’ve watched her grow from Book One, A Dickens of a Crime, where she found a dead body in an historic house she would docent for an annual homes tour. It was someone she knew, and she thought the woman’s husband was the murderer. Meg is like me, technologically challenged, so in the second book, don’t you know, her cell phone would get her in big trouble. In the third book, she unlocks the mystery of her deceased mother, a woman who committed suicide when Meg was 11. These revelations come about when she inherits a coastal ranch out of the blue. So, in this fourth book, Meg has embraced her intuitive abilities, her new found wealth, and new friends, but it’s reconnecting with old friends that will take her to another part of her little hometown and expose her to characters she didn’t know existed. I’m still figuring out who that will be, but I’m looking forward to meeting them, too. These cozies aren’t the cartoon cover type. I like my characters to have more depth than breadth. I want them to be likeable, but not without flaws, more like old friends than perfect. If they are relatable, I feel like I’ve done a good job. A reader should think they are more like them, than likable, (thought they could be both). Settings are important to me, also. I’ve lived up and down the Texas coast. I like to introduce readers to the landscape, the animals, the for a and fauna, etc. I want them to feel like they know the houses, the views and the pets. All of my characters have pets. I use Pinterest to set up boards for each novel. There readers can see the clothing, the food, the rooms, the cats, dogs, and horses. The images on Pinterest inspire the holidays in my books, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas and family gatherings. I like going up in my character’s attics and digging through their stuff. In Sabine, I did that while’s Sabine’s mother, Josephine was in the mental hospital. By the time she got home, Sabine had redone the whole house. It was so much fun.

Featured Interview With Joy Elaine

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised on a farm and every day that it was possible to spend outside, I did. I didn’t remember, until I started writing The Joy Chronicles, that I had been playing with the fairies on our farm. In the first book in The Joy Chronicles series, Path of Sweetness, my angel guide, Esthra, jogged my memory about my childhood fairy friend, Sheliah. I am able to interact energetically with her now and there is much information about fairies in all the books in the series (but especially book two and onward). I live in the suburbs of a city in southern Indiana, but still love being outdoors.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
As a child, my parents often read Little Golden Books to me. All through my young adult and adult life, the library has been one of the places I visit most often. I didn’t start writing until February of 2014 when I was sixty-eight, but since then . . . WOW.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Kage Baker, Guy Gavriel Kay, Ian Banks, Terry Pratchett, Loretta Chase, Patricia Gaffney, Penny Reid, and Judith Ivory. Sci-fi/Fantasy and Romance books are my favorite genres. Lately mostly romance novels.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Actually, my latest book is not yet published. (There are ten novels in the first series of Joy Chronicles.) The one I’m promoting now is Blossoming of Love, the second book in the series. Although my books look like they are fantasy novels, they aren’t. Three decades of esoteric studies have given me the ability to move my energy body to different dimensions and timelines.

In this book, boy fairies are created in the fairy gardens, and four million dragons are restored to a dimension of Earth. You are invited to move to a seat at the Joy Council (how to do that is explained in the book) and join famous figures from Earth’s History—King Arthur and his knights, Lincoln, JFK, Cleopatra, Antony and Caesar—as they support the vision for our evolving world.

Reading any of the books in The Joy Chronicles is like looking into your own crystal ball to see the future of Earth’s evolution, and the paths leading to the destiny of your dreams.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My Latest Book is titled Forget Me Not. I was inspired from working in health care. I see so many families torn apart by things they can’t control. Its interesting to me how religion often comes into play in a time in need. Some people take advantage of their vulnerability and it ends up being more unhealthy than good.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I knew I had a lifelong curiosity with writing and creativity. Every activity and every club I joined, I began creating–from horse routines for parades to music composition. In school, as far back as I can remember, I was thinking of plots and stories surrounding classrooms and teachers. I relished writing assignments. Starting in high school I spent the majority of time in class writing poetry and published back then. I was fascinated that my mother was a published author in her early years.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I can get value from any book I read, but I am always drawn to science, legal analysis, and the classics. Do I enjoy Stephen King and John Grisham? Yes, immensely, but give me Steinbeck for an emotionally moving expenience. In other words, I have an eclectic appetite and exercise it. Over my life I have also studied, acted in, memorized, developed characters in, and read hundreds of plays from Greek tragedies to Restoration plays to musicals to the modern. Would there were more time.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I am about to release a legal thriller based on the Russian mob in L.A. and the wet coast. Another exciting trial and many action scenes. Over the years it is my great pleasure to do action scenes in my books. The artistic challenge is exciting. I am writing two new books. One takes place in Scotland and the UK among the Royals. The other in the Hollywood Hills and surrounding area. I just released my first audiobook Rogue Divorce Lawyer and am going to release another audiobook in about three months Hollywood on Trial. It was a real challenge learning the technical aspects of building a sound studio, recording, mastering, publishing, and distributing audiobooks.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Utah. My dad was a school teacher and we traveled a lot. I have lived in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. I live in Utah at present. I love the mountains and I missed them during the years I lived in Oklahoma and Texas. I have two dogs. Beethoven is seven years old. He is white with brown spots. He is part Great Pyronese, part Australian Shepherd. He likes to sleep by my feet and checks on me regularly. Mozart is four years old. He is approx. 110 lbs and solid black. He is part Mastiff, and part Collie. Mozart is better behaved then Beethoven, but they are both good dogs.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved to read. When I started kindergarten, I was so excited. I could not wait for the first day of school. I did not sleep a wink the night before. I had an older brother and sister. They learned to read at school. I figured it was in the bag, by the end of my first day I would be reading like my siblings. I still remember my disappointment when no one taught me the magic. When I came home, Mom asked me how school went. I told her it was dumb because nobody taught me to read.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Jude Deveraux,Madeline Hunter, Maya Rodale, Elizabeth Hoyt, and Lorraine Heath.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Wicked Sister is a classic fairy tale with a twist. Lady Anastasia loves her stepfather and is grief stricken at his sudden death. She is also, filled with remorse. She put off apologizing too long and now she won’t get the chance. The family must adjust to living without him and times are hard. Anastasia’s arm has finally healed from a vicious animal attack and it feels good to use it again. She chases some village boys and falls into a handsome stranger’s arms. Everything changes. This story has it all, a handsome prince, a lady down on her luck, a murder, and plenty of family drama.
It was a very fun story to write. I ended up writing the chapters out on three by five cards to organize everything I wanted to put in. The story took me about a year to write. The only time I had to write was after work, and after dinner was ready. I had a couple of hours then, until time for dishes and bed. I hope you enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Featured Interview With Mia Heintzelman

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a tea-drinking, polka dot lover and romance book reader and writer. I was born in Chicago, raised in California (Venice>Vista>Bay), and now I live in Vegas. I don’t have a pet, but I do want a lazy, three-year old or so small dog that doesn’t require a lot of exercise.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Third grade. I wrote my first book, Darrot and the Parrot. Lol. I was in love with reading and writing. I won a gold genie lamp shaped award for that book, then my uncle told me that I shouldn’t want to be a writer because writers didn’t make any money. It took until I was in college to correct my course. I’ve been writing ever since. P.S. I’ve never taken advice from that uncle again.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
It’s either love or gory death for me, so romance or mystery thriller/suspense. My favorite authors are Emily Giffin, Kennedy Ryan, Sally Thorne, Christina Lauren, Harlan Coben, and Jasmine Guillory, all of whom inform and inspire my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Mixed Emotions is the third book in my All Mixed Up series although it can definitely read as a stand alone. It’s a fun and modern take on finding love. We meet Zora and Mike who are connected because he’s her brother’s best friend and business counsel. She’s staying with her brother an his fiancé until they have dry rot and termites. After exhausting other options, Zora ends up staying at Mike’s place. It’s forced proximity and forbidden romance all wrapped up in one digital dating game.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in the small country Victorian town of Stawell. My parents moved our family to Melbourne when we were old enough to attend school. I had a supportive family and we all worked very hard to achieve what came our way. I cherished my family and friends and I found writing very inspiring and therapeutic from a young age. My love for words and story telling has only grown! Words have such power to convey meaning and emotion and I love exploring that power!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was a bookworm from the moment I could read and I could curl up and lose my self in any book that intrigued me. I started writing books and poetry in primary school. I didn’t really take my craft and talent seriously until I was thirty years of age. Getting older and wiser does make you assess your life, your talents and the legacy you leave in the world!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love losing myself in Danielle Steele’s romance series of books. I also love the Harry Potter series and the world of imagination that you find yourself in.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Book One in the Trilogy, The Essence Of Life Is … LOVE! is a suspense fiction book that the has the reader feeling the emotion highs and lows that the main character, Olivia Mercedes Brown, encounters.

Olivia’s life starts from humble beginnings. She is from a working class family with strong country roots. She has a tumultuous year when she meets Apollo, a mysterious good looking man.
After a whirlwind romance, Olivia marries Apollo and in a cruel twist of fate eventually realises that his car accident was not an accident at all. Her moral compass is tested when she helps her friend Emma flee from domestic violence. She feels helpless when the system lets Emma down and her husband unbelievably gets his wish – if he cant have Emma then no one can.
Social Injustices rear their head and Olivia displays her will to better her society and take action – she essentially becomes a social warrior for those in the community suffering from homelessness and domestic violence – the sector of community needing someone to believe in them.

Positivity overcomes the sadness when Olivia creates a social project in her friend’s honour. Olivia takes on life’s challenges with courage and conviction and at the end of the story – she finds love in the most unlikely of places – she grows as a person and takes on new responsibilities.

She understands the impact of family and she comes to an important realisation .. that The Essence Of Life is … LOVE!

This book is a passionate and emotional project of mine. It is a book that will touch your heart and stay with you always.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in the Midwest and graduated with honors from Princeton University. After graduation, I spent five years in Europe studying literature and preparing to teach meditation. I taught meditation full-time for two years before serving as the Vice President of Sales for seven successful high-tech startup companies. In 2005, I retired from the business world to concentrate on writing. I am the author of the number-one Amazon-bestselling Enlightenment novels, “Remembering Eternity,” “The Whisper of a Saint,” “Lucinda,” and “The Enlightenment of Joshua Inly,” all of which have been highly acclaimed by readers.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved to read, especially fairy tales and fables, as a child. I spent most of my college time reading diverse material, from fiction to philosophy. I began writing after graduating from college.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Tolstoy, Mann, Dostoevsky, Proust, Lawrence

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book tells the story of a woman who attained her goal of finding perfect spiritual Enlightenment. It is the tale of a long search, something along the lines of “Siddhartha.”

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I received an undergraduate degree from Frostburg State University and a Medical Degree from University of Maryland, Baltimore. I served in the US Navy for 8 years and currently work as a family medicine physician for the Navy. I am a single mother of three and I adopted a dog from a shelter recently. Writing has always been a hobby for me and now I am making it into a career. 200 Letters is my first novel.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read Coldest Winter Ever my senior year of high school and it changed my life. before that I hated reading. now I read anytime I get a chance which unfortunately is limited with my crazy career and life.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Sista Souljah, Virginia DeBerry, Donna Grant, Eric Jerome Dickey, Zane, God (I love the Bible)

Tell us a little about your latest book?
200 Letters is a spirited novel about two people trying to escape abusive relationships and finding love, strength, and endurance through their struggle. They are faced with the harshest of obstacles (hatred, jealousy, manipulation, physical danger, and social injustice) on their journey. This page turner is filled with passion, drama, suspense and spiritual enlightenment. It took me 1.5 years to write. It really flowed as I was writing which I think is why it didn’t take very long.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a social worker, teacher and writer.
I’m the granddaughter of Italian immigrants, which means I’m passionate…. about almost everything.
I grew up in New Jersey eating sweet corn, going ‘down the shore’ and listening to Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny.
I learned to drive a stick shift as a freshman at Boston College.
After I graduated I ran away from home (kind of) and landed in California by way of Montana
Where I got married and raised two amazing young men, a number of dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens and fish.
I love sports, especially baseball, which is a lot like life.
And I always root for the underdog.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved stories. My mother read to my siblings and I until we could read ourselves. I grew up on Nancy Drew and then later on Sue Grafton and Patricia Cornwall. Now I read mostly memoir and novels. I’ve written most of my life but got serious about it about ten years ago when I started a blog called The Bottom of the Ninth.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
There’s so many! I love compelling, well written memoir. I especially like Dani Shapiro’s work. Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes. Educated, by Tara Westover. I’m also a sucker for books set in Italy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Cardinal Club – A Daughter’s Journey to Acceptance is the story of a daughter’s efforts to make amends with her mother following her death from Alzheimer’s disease.

As her mother’s memory fades and she can no longer recognize her daughter, the daughter struggles to reconcile the memory of her mother with a relationship that often left her feeling disconnected and alone. The book pays particular attention to the relationship between the daughter and her dynamic, Medici-esque matriarch mother, who raises her daughter in her own image. As the daughter grows and begins to branch out in order to find her own identity, she faces the challenge of separating from a mother who refuses to see her for who she is and in so doing, withholds her acceptance. And although the daughter’s life is filled with many successes; a successful career, a husband, children and a comfortable home, it is her mother’s acceptance that she most longs for, never giving up hope that someday she will earn what she most desires.

It is an openhearted, deeply compassionate story about facing difficult truths and a journey that leads, unexpectedly, to discovering unconditional love.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Born and raised in California, US. Still living there, just outside LA. I’ve done some traveling domestically and abroad, and lived in Oregon for a while, but home is home. Retiring to Lake Lugano in the alps could be nice.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Truthfully, books have always been challenging for me because of a vision problem. There were some books I fell in love with in high school. poetry, philosophy, short stories, and plays. Dramatic literature was where my love really grew. It stemmed from my love of making up adventures with neighborhood friends, building silly inventions, club houses and throwing ourselves off the roof of my family home acting out stories. Even my dog was a part of the fun. In highscool we used to sit around on the lawn discussing Dickinson, Nietzche, Bukowski, the Beat Generation. Then in college the likes of Federico Garcia Lorca, Brecht, and other poets affected by fascism and that sort of thing.

As I grew older reading books with my lovers, my mates, became a way to connect. All the while I was reading and performing the works of dramatists such as Mamet, Shakespeare, Pinter, Moliere, Tennessee Williams, Checkov and many more. Some were also short story writers and novelists. When I began to lose my sight, listening to audiobooks and reading the bible became entertainment for me. Dostoyevsky, , Dickens, Tolstoy, Stephen King, Voltaire, John Milton, Gillian Flynn are just some whose work I explored, that come to mind. I had read some of their books before of course but the storytelling I had studied in high school and college really started to be influenced in a different way.

In my teens I entered poetry contests then along the way, in my early twenties, I had started writing screenplays, plays and short stories and, you know, some professor in university says “your a good writer” and people start telling you you should be a writer. I never really took writing a novel seriously. Frankly, I didn’t think I was smart enough. I remember I had this really strange experience with a psychic in Hollywood. She had read my cards and then told me I was going to do a lot of writing, stressing “a lot”, that I was a writer. Then, suddenly she looked as if she had a terrible shock. Like she caught a glimpse of something horrific and told me it was very important I come in for a blessing. I didn’t, and I still regret it because I had some far-out experiences not too long after. Finally, one day I thought, “Well, if it’s really meant that I should write a book, then I should be able to sit down and just write a book.” So I sat down to right nonstop and six months later I had written a book. I guess it isn’t the easiest thing to do. I had studied character development, story arch, different forms or story development nearly all my life. So it came together. For the best is a readers place to decide, but that’s been going well so far.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Well, I enjoy those classics. Maybe more because I am unconsciously studying them. Along with Voltaire, and Dickens I’ve read King and Clive Barker. Though I’m don’t think I’m really built for reading the dark horror work anymore.

My favorite genre is literary fiction and fantasy.

I am inspired most by issues with loved ones and social injustice. I’m involved with Amnesty International and have written letters to leaders of Iran as well as jailers in Alabama and many more. The stories of people struggling have really influenced every part of my life, including writing. Seeing the disparity of classes and races motivates me. And the metoo movement, the struggle for women’s rights to decide what to do with their bodies as well as find fair treatment. These issues have really shaken me to the core.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Evah & the Unscrupulous Thwargg touches on many issues. It’s a sci-fi story with elements of mystery, adventure, spirituality, and much more. It’s about a young girl who discovers her connection to a mystical tribe that was vanquished at the hands of the ruling technological race. There is a chance that the tribe may be reborn through her but she must navigate through their system of control.

In part, it was an experiment. I wanted to find out if an adventure novel featuring a black lead character and a woman learning to stand on her own, free of a system of control would spark any interest. I like fantasy, crime, mystery, and adventure but often they are deeply rooted in white experience and many fantasy novels are rooted in white European culture. I love Tolkein and Robin Hood and King Arthur. I just think it’s way past the time where we should be able to feature characters of color and females in ways that share some universal themes. This book “Evah” is about the departure from the male-centric world. But what happens to the main characters, the struggles, of Evah and Skenkin I feel have a universal quality. We are all looking for our tribe. We are all learning to be adults with self-defined ideologies that let us be the best we can be. That isn’t to say there isn’t a lot of male action in this book. There is. Military action on alien worlds. It’s just not a white man the action follows. And the plan for the book to come is to see a female character who happens to be black really kick some ass and do some magic that blows the mind. What’s wrong with that?

I do hope my Skenkin character avatar will work for the author pic. I don’t share photos of myself at this time. Thanks to Book Reader Magazine for the interview. Happy reading!

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, which is where I live now. I spent five years as an Army officer, so I moved around a bit after college.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I learned to love to read in third grade. Not with Harry Potter- I’m not a Potter kind of woman- but Animorphs, which was a ridiculous sci-fi series of occasionally questionable quality. Still, after that, reading became my hobby.

As for writing, I began writing for school, initially, during creative writing exercises and learned I had a knack for it. I then began to “commit fanfiction” from time to time until becoming more confident in my skills and ideas.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors include J.R.R. Tolkien, Flannery O’Connor, Jim Butcher, and Karen Traviss, to name a few. I like fantasy and sci-fi. I read both in equal measure.

My inspiration comes a lot from Tolkien, partly because I think my creative process works in the generally same way as his. Not in terms of creating languages, but the flow and craft of it. I’m nowhere near as gifted, however!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Doomwalker is the first in the Paladin Trilogy. It tells the story of Paladin Valen, a noble warrior dedicated to the goddess of justice and civilization, Lyrica, as he faces a world on the edge of ruin and a dark and ancient elven prophecy that centers on him. He is accompanied by the elven spy Maryx, who has her fate bound to him by her childhood oaths.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
First and foremost, I’m a lover of Jesus. I write to inspire and encourage other Christ-followers on their spiritual journey. A journey that is a struggle sometimes. My books send a clear message that it’s worth it to fight the good fight, keep the faith, and finish the race. There are things that matter and things that don’t–and a relationship with Jesus matters most.

I have written one book—a novel. It’s about facing the fear that sometimes stalls a Christ-follower’s spiritual journey. I wrote it to let readers know there is a way out of your comfort zone where you refuse to take risks—and hate yourself for it later.

I married my college sweetheart, Becki, in 1974. We have been married for the best 46 years of my life. Our four grown children and eight grandchildren keep us busy and full of joy.

I pastored a church and worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. In 2017 after 25 years satisfying years, I retired. No longer a bi-vocational pastor, I focus my energies on family, building believers through small group involvement, and writing books, devotionals, curriculum and blog posts. For over a decade, I’ve written a weekly column called “Pastor’s Ponderings” for a couple of newspapers.

In my spare time, I love reading, gardening and swinging on my porch swing. I also enjoy speaking from God’s Word and sharing my spiritual journey at churches and conferences.

I was raised in a small town in northeast Indiana named Garrett. Today, I live in Edgerton, Ohio—less than 30 minutes from Garrett. No pets.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I got the itch for writing in high school. I started in my sophomore year with the high school newspaper. I continued in my junior and senior years as editor.

I’ve always been a reader. From the day I first learned to read a book has been nearby.

Before my book, I’ve written curriculum for churches, covered sports for the Edgerton newspaper, and written a weekly “Pastor’s Pondering” column for two area newspapers for over a decade.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
John Eldredge, Ted Dekker, John Lynch, Bruce McNichol and Bill Thrall

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Cornered in Shallow Water: One Man’s Journey from Crippling Fear to Freedom and Faith” is a novel loosely based on a turning point in my life. I find there are thousands of people who battle fear. I do, and this book is about how I faced my fear and wouldn’t let it keep me in my comfort zone where I wouldn’t take risks—even those God made clear He wanted me to take.

This book is for anyone who…
• Wants to break the crippling grip of fear that prevents you from doing what you know God wants you to do
• Wants to look back at the end of your life with fewer regrets
• Is no longer content to settle for the monotonous routine of daily life
• Aspires to step out of your comfort zone even though it scares you
• Is ready to dive into deep waters where you can’t touch bottom
• Needs encouragement to take risks in your faith journey

Featured Interview With T. L. Cooper

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up on a farm in a small town in Kentucky where I often imagined traveling to the places in the books I read.

I studied Corrections & Juvenile Services as well as Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University because I have an insatiable need to understand why people do the things they do.

I’ve traveled to many places in the world and am always fascinated by both the similarities and the differences I discover while talking to people. I love seeing the places I’ve read about come to life and seeing how accurate my imagination created them from the words I read.

I continue to explore the motivation behind people’s behavior both in the things I choose to read and the things I write.

I have published 5 books of poetry, 2 collections of short stories, and a novel.

I currently live in Albany, Oregon.

I have three cats who love to keep me company while I write, especially when they want me to stop writing to play with them or feed them.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
According to my parents, I loved books from infancy, and I have to take their word for it because I don’t remember ever not being fascinated with books. My Mom says she started reading to me before I could even speak.

I started telling stories to save a groundhog that lived in my Dad’s barn. When my Grandpa said he’d come down and shoot it, I’d come up with reasons he couldn’t Grandpa encouraged me to flesh out those reasons into full stories to entertain friends and family. I grew to love telling those stories, and truth be told the attention it garnered me from Grandpa.

I started to write stories as soon as I could write sentences. I love the act of writing as much as the act of storytelling. Watching the story reveal itself as I write brings me immense pleasure.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a multitude of authors because I like variety.

When reading fiction, I read a wide variety of genres because I like to be challenged. I also read try to read poetry every day. Right now, I’m drawn to nonfiction more than fiction as happens with me from time to time.

One of my earliest influences was S. E. Hinton. Her books captivated me in a way that made me seeing books differently than I had before. She wrote about what she wanted to write, and I found that inspiring. She wrote about teenagers in a way that felt relatable to me unlike many of the other books about teenagers I read. Her books reinforced the message telling stories about the groundhog on my grandpa’s knee had taught me; that words could make a difference, that fiction could touch hearts, that stories could provoke and create emotional connection thought as well as entertainment.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The last book I published was a book of short stories, Take a Chance & Other Stories of Starting Over, which explores beginnings and endings that lead to the decision whether or not to take a risk or stay the course. The stories in it were inspired by facing my own choices in life and watching other people make choices. Sometimes I would ponder “what if” about those choices, and often that pondering developed into a story.

In addition, I’m currently working on two books:

One is Democracy in Silhouette: Poems, a book of poetry exploring democracy, politics, governing, and issues that affect us all daily. I was inspired to write it by the political divisiveness that is so prevalent in the world.

The other is novel, tentatively titled Red, that explores the mental breakdown of Marissa, a woman who is found with the dead bodies of her family. As she struggles to regain her memories, her past unfolds to show what lead to the tragic night that her family died.

Featured Interview With Ann Harrison

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Rochelle Georgia, but after moving to Atlanta to get some training in independent living skils for the blind and to get help with finding a job, from there to Marrietta, GA, then to Canton, Georgia after my first Marriage, back home for awhile after my divorce, to Athens Georgia during my second Marriage, I’m back home and living in a tiny house not farm from my family home. I had a guide dog, but I had to retire her early, for various reasons. I love different types of music, especially the music of my wind chimes out on the front porch. I find the chimes to be a great source of inspiration. I must say I love the small town life over living in a big city.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve loved books since I was at least five if not before. My mom always read to me and my brothers, and I started receiving books on records and cassettes through the Library of Congress’s program called the national library service for the blind and print disabled at the age of five. from then on, I’ve read many books through the years and that instilled my love of storytelling and writing. I started writing when I was in the 4th grade, I wone a writing contest in the sixth grade, and I dabbled in writing a story that never saw the light of day when I was in high school, but I’ve been taking my writing seriously since 2005, after reading the introduction to New Stories of the South, the 2001 edition. I’ve had to give it up for awhile, but once I got divorced for the first time, God and the inspiration from my love of music gave me the motivation I needed to pick it back up again in 2010.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors include, Karen Kingsbury, Jen Lowry, Elizabeth Goddard, and Robin Lee Hatcher, to name a few. My favorite genre is Christian Cozy mystery, but I also love fantasy, children’s adventure, and I read widely whenever I can. I can’t pinpoint one person who inspires me, I get inspiration from books, music, dreams, and random bits of conversation.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first book of poems delves into my creative journey, given to me by the Holy Spirit. The first section, entitled A Writers Life, covers my journey from writer to creative dreamer, until I bloom into a published author.
The second section, entitled Seaside Poems, will takes you on a walk along the seashore, where the Holy Spirit and your muse awaits to fill your heart and mind with inspiration, pulling you out of your creative slump. Allow the Holy Spirit to help you fill page after page with words, pictures or fill your hands with whatever creative task you strive to undertake, as you read these verses, which come straight from my heart.
The third and final section entitled Poems from the Heart, describes the journey of a lost soul as he gives his heart to Jesus and finds a new beginning. Others describe a narrator’s sorrowful tears melting into joyful music and singing. Some of these verses touch on my spiritual walk with the Lord and the music God has placed within my soul. Open your heart and let your mind wander as the Holy Spirit speaks to you through each verse within these pages.
