Featured Author Steven Fraccaro

SF-36a-Version-2Featured Interview With Steven Fraccaro

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in New York City and have lived there most of my life. I lived downtown for many years, first in Tribeca, when it was mainly warehouses, egg wholesalers, and artists. Now it’s all investment bankers. Then I lived in the East Village when it still had the last of its bohemian edge and we used to stay up all night. Now I’m back uptown in this madhouse of a city, still trying to survive.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I became fascinated with books around the age of seven, if not before. The first book with full text that I remember reading was “The Gods of Mount Olympus.” This was written by Robert Penn Warren, the poet and literary critic, and was part of a series of mythology books for children. These were originally published by Random House in the late 1950s and have since become collectors items.

Later, what really got me interested in writing was reading Dostoyevsky, Faulkner, Joyce, Eliot and Yeats when I was fifteen to eighteen years old. After that, there was no turning back. Later on, it was Proust and Henry James.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
To be honest, I’m more interested in British and European novelists than in Americans at this point. This causes a certain problem when approaching agents and publishers, but I can’t say that bothers me enormously. The greatest lasting influence is probably Borges, who I always come back to. I first read him in a college Spanish class, but now I read him in English. “Funes el Memorioso” was the first of his stories we read. I love “The Aleph” and “A New Refutation of Time,” among others. And I much prefer the old Grove Press translations by Anthony Kerrigan and Alastair Reid to the newer Penguin translations, which aren’t bad, but seem to lack something. For anyone who’s interested, the best place to start is probably “A Personal Anthology,” from Grove Press.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“The Recalcitrant Scrivener” is currently being offered for free download for a couple of days each month. This is a short collection of essays about writing literary fiction in the age of the web. And about the publishing industry, which currently appears to be in a state of crisis, a crisis I pretty much predicted five years ago when the first of the essays appeared. There are also pieces on vampires, on poets, and on trying to earn a living as a writer. All important topics.

My major work to date is the novel “Dark Angels: A Novel of the Future Past.” This was written a number of years ago, but only published recently. It’s a strange sort of book, subtly dystopian, not really science fiction, even though it’s set in a near future. It involves various sorts of mind control, surveillance, and an agent who is forced against his will to investigate a series of mysterious deaths. One might say these are clichés, ideas that might be found in a Philip K. Dick novel, which is true, but I’ve twisted them, made them internal, and taken them somewhere else. It’s a book to read late at night.

Remember, writing is a way of defining the world.

IMG_0050Featured Interview With Isabell Lawless

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Isabell is a Swedish-bred tale teller now living in sunny California since her early twenties. She always dreamed about being a rock star and make it onto the Hollywood scene, she even wrote more than one hundred rock and pop songs. Out of the blue she got hit by the big love train and ended up marrying an oil operator and is now happily married and dots around the house with their daughter and two cats. Surviving on vanilla flavored coffee when the days seem too long she has made it very clear that baby nap-time is mommy’s writing and reading time.

Isabell’s first book, “Beast of Venery”, was published on Amazon Kindle and stays true to her favorite genres: steamy romance and criminal suspense.
She is bilingual using English as her second language, but get’s the grammar and slight text editing done by a nice oil operator she knows.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always had a fascination with books, and as a child I was always engulfed in books or magazines, doing weekly trips to the library with the family. Unfortunately, one high-school teacher wiped my reading interest of the map and it was not until many years later that I got back into it.

I started writing stories as early as 5th grade when one of the new textbooks in classroom contained introduction to stories and as a student you had to come up with a plot and finish them. I still dream about that book. It was my favorite subject of the week.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are pretty diverse, depending on what mood I’m in. Late Randy Pausch was a fantastic story teller, and I’ve learned so many things from reading his biography. Codi Gary, Stacey Kennedy, Lori Wilde, and Kylie Scott write fantastic stories with a mixture of steamy romance and comedy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Not wasting a second, the moving truck with its crew packed up all her belongings, and she finally hit the road away from hell, once and for all.
At least that was her plan.

Years later; in a new town, with a new job, and a wonderful hot contractor as a husband, an email shakes up the happy life she has manage to rebuild for herself. A life far away from denigrating accusations, cruel demands, and sexual domination.

Now her ex Brian has found her, and won’t accept anything less than for her to come back home.
She needs to come back to him. Come home.
She belongs to him. And him only.

An anonymous package arrives at their door on a Friday afternoon and the sense of being continuously watched interrupts Danielle and Andy’s everyday life.
The happily married couple begin to realize who is behind it all, even though seven whole years have gone since that moving truck sped down the gravel road and far, far away. Leaving all trace of Danielle’s existence in Brian’s life.

The night of the restaurant opening downtown will forever be etched in their memory.
That was the night they came across Brian inside their dining room. Just waiting for the right time to reappear in Danielle’s life.
The night when he unleashed his pent up rage and sexual dominance upon her once again.
That was the night he took her naked on the table nominating Andy to watch their sexual encounter. All of it. Proving every single inch of her body still belonged to him.

There are consequences to aggravating him, and since Danielle is not responding to his demands, he will come back for more.

With Brian’s unstable personality still on the lose the questions remain:
Are they going to stay at their newly renovated house in the south now that he has found her and fight him on their grounds when he returns, or try to outrun this predator once more leaving a tight-knit family and everything they have built together behind?

The waiting game has started.
When will he be back? What does he plan to do this time?
Somehow this nightmare must end, even if it means that someone will get hurt again.
Seriously hurt.
The questions is just, who is it going to be this time?

Beast of Venery is a semi-autobiographical romantic thriller that follows Danielle fleeing an abusive and domineering ex-boyfriend. With the help and support from her new husband and surrounding family she fights his attempts to contact her and touch her in any way possible to get her back into her life

Featured Interview With Deniz Besim

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a thirty years old lady who lives in London and has enjoyed discovering expression in poetry by writing in forms including sestinas, villanelles, pantoums and sonnets.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with books stems back from all the way back into my school years. I was always more an avid reader than I was ever a writer and have probably read a lot more books than I’ve written. It’s important to realise that to be a good writer one would need to be an even better reader.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My own poetry forms has been inspired by studying poets including Dylan Thomas (who wrote villanelles) and John Ashbery (who wrote pantoums). I’ve also studies both Shakespearean and petrarchan sonnets, such as Composed Upon Westminster Bridge by William Wordsworth.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest poetry book is The Valley that Calls which is a collection of one hundred and twenty poems that includes both an exploration of nature and more intimate and erotic themes. Few poets have explored these themes the way I have within this poetry book. Some of the poetry is also about the valley itself – the title of the book – and that is an imagined location designed to stir up our creative fantasies.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Writing is my passion. That is the reason I write. I think it is the same with all authors and I do not claim to be an exception. I am a researcher and have worked on the Abstraction Theory in physics. Besides that, I have also played my part in the study of the mysterious Indus Valley Script of the Indian subcontinent. I have been part of various Open Science movements for almost a decade now and also serve as the Ambassador for Open Knowledge in India. Playing with data is another thing that I love doing.
Over the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to have authored a good number of book, both fiction and nonfiction.
I am from India.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Books have always fascinated me and I ha been an avid reader since I can remember. Writing books was an accident though. I was, thankfully, pestered on by a few friends and colleagues to compile my research papers in the form of a book. That was the start of an incredible journey. I have written a good number of books, both fiction and nonfiction. I am truly indebted to my readers for their love and support.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always been an avid reader and I am never too picky about what books to read. Generally, I read whatever I manage to come across, with only a few exceptions, maybe. Each and every book that I have read has made me learn something and helped me expand my horizon. Every book has been special in its own way.

I believe, every author writes in order to express some deep inner urge. I am no exception to this myself. However, the challenge is not to be tempted and always being true and honest to this inner urge. It is the purest source of all creation.

I am deeply indebted to my readers and critics alike for having always showered me with love and respect. They are a true inspiration.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest offering is called ‘The Blue Buccaneer’. It is a murder mystery, set against the backdrop of the antiquity of an Indian museum.
From the book description:

If you love to solve murder mysteries and if your idea of relaxing is reading a thriller, then this is probably the book for you.

Though everything looks perfect on the surface, all is not well at the Indian Museum. Mysterious, almost ghostly, events start happening. An inferno follows. The dystopian whirlpool of events spares nobody, not even the Director of the museum. In such trying times, one cannot be too sure, who is a friend and who is a foe. In the murkiness, it is not very clear who is on which side of the law. Even the deduction seems to have hit a dead end!

What is clear, however, is that a serious crime has been committed. It is up to one man now to go to the bottom of it all.

Featured Author Joan C. Curtis

DSC_0003_4x6-smallFeatured Interview With Joan C. Curtis

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Joan is an award winning writer who has published 5 books and numerous stories. Her newest is a mystery/suspense novel, The Clock Strikes Midnight.

Joan has been an avid reader for as long as she can remember. She reads all kinds of books, including women’s fiction, mysteries, biography, and nonfiction related to her work. She does not read fantasy, horror or romance. Her passion as a reader lies closer to literary writing with a commercial bent.

“I write about characters who remind me of myself at times and my sister at times, but never fully so. My stories are told from a woman’s point of view. Characters drive my writing and my reading.”

Having grown up in the South with a mother from Westchester County New York, Joan has a unique take on blending the southern traditions with the eye of a northerner. She spent most of her childhood in North Carolina, but currently lives in Georgia.olina and now resides in Georgia.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember. My mother is a voracious reader. As kids we were not allowed to disturb her when she was reading (which was most of the time.). I still see her sitting at the kitchen table with her nose in a book.

I began writing in the eighth grade when I wrote a play using the Tale of Two Cities.
One day years later I saw a notice for a contest in storytelling sponsored by Reader’s Digest. I decided to submit a story. Mine won second place in this national competition. It was later published in Reader’s Digest. That experience gave me the confidence to begin doing more writing.

From writing stories to writing books was a major leap. I began with a practice novel to see what it was like to write a novel. Of course, I didn’t consider it “practice.” Later, I realized how much goes into the craft of writing fiction. My second novel became a very early version of The Clock Strikes Midnight. In between all this, I published 4 business books. That experience kept me in the writing game.

Today, I’m concentrating on fiction and enjoying the opportunity to create new characters and stories.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m inspired by good writing. I have many favorite authors. First, Colette. I read the Colette Omnibus when I was in my 20’s. Colette writes like a poet. Her words bring forth beautiful images and she creates amazing characters.

As a teen I devoured Charles Dickens. David Copperfield was my favorite book. Maturing, I began reading Susan Howatch. She’s a wonderful writer who develops amazing characters all set in England.

I read many genre including: 1)women’s fiction–Lee Smith is another favorite in that genre
2) mystery/suspense–I loved The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo and the sequels. I also love Martha Grimes 3) Southern fiction, including Pat Conroy, Fanny Flagg, Ferrol Sams, to name a few 4) biography–Doris Kerns Goodwin, David McCullough. I tend to love reading about people 5) Abraham Verghese’s My Favorite Country and Khaled Hosseini, both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Clock Strikes Midnight is a race against time in a quest for revenge and atonement. This is a story about hate, love, betrayal and forgiveness.

If you found out you had only 3 months to live, what would you do? That’s the question Janie Knox faces in this fast-paced mystery full of uncertainty and tension that will surprise you until the very last page.

Hiding behind the façade of a normal life, Janie keeps her family secrets tucked inside a broken heart. Everything changes on the day she learns she’s going to die. With the clock ticking and her time running out, she rushes to finish what she couldn’t do when she was 17—destroy her mother’s killer. But she can’t do it alone.

Janie returns to her childhood home to elicit help from her sister. She faces more than she bargained for when she discovers her sister’s life in shambles. Meanwhile her mother’s convicted killer, her stepfather, recently released from prison, blackmails the sisters and plots to extract millions from the state in retribution. New revelations challenge Janie’s resolve, but she refuses to allow either time or her enemies to her stop her from uncovering the truth she’s held captive for over 20 years.

A friend asked me what made me write this book. That’s a difficult question to answer. I’ve been working on this story for over 15 years. It began with a story titled Drawn Curtains. That book took me into the minds of the characters and their history. Over the years the characters grew and developed and the plot thickened. It’s almost as if the characters took on an energy of their own. I was simply the person at the keyboard. It was an amazing experience.

Featured Author Houston Havens

photo_blkvest_touchupFeatured Interview With Houston Havens

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a true Irish lass…born to an ever rolling stone of an Irish father…so, though my heart lives in Ireland, I’ve lived nearly everywhere. And I have continued my father’s tradition by never really tossing me hat on any bed for too long. Today, I says home is where the heart is.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved books. I started studying writing back in 1990 but didn’t seriously think about publishing until a few years go. Sinful Surrender book one of my Psychic Menage Series’ was the second book I put out for submission.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love authors Kim Mullican, Suzy Knight, Matt Holgate, Anita Cox, Tom Clancy, Robert Monroe, Jane Roberts, Johanna Lindley, Michael Newton, Ingo Swann, and Fred Alan Wolf….just to name a few. As you can see I cover many genre’s in my reading material.

Johanna Lindley was the very first to inspired me to write a romance book. Anita Cox writes erotica and I love her voice and style, but I’m more comfortable writing erotic-romance ~ falling between romance and erotica.

When readers buy one of my books they will see I have a very clear voice of my own and a very different way of showing and telling a story. Being Irish…I can’t stay in a writers box…or stick to one or two genre…my book Sinful Surrender crosses ten+ genre in that one story. As an artist of words I express my stories in my own unique way and those who have read my work find it refreshing.

To readers who want to really escape ~ Let me tempt you~ because what has inspired me most in my writing has been my life. I retired from a successful modeling career and an adventurous jet-set lifestyle to set the world on fire with my erotic romance books. I strive to entertain my readers with seductive stories that I’ve created from my decadent imagination and my provocative lifestyle.

My interest reaches into the paranormal. I’m fascinated with quantum science. I have a passion with myths, and the lure of my own mysterious Celtic Irish-Druid bloodlines. All of which I’ve combined with generally unknown truths, strange facts, and questionable fiction to create hot, sizzling stories for both men and women to enjoy.

My novels reflect a mix of the past, present, and future, with sexy blends of futuristic science fiction, paranormal fantasy, western romance, and always love everlasting.

I’m an author of six romances, a seven book erotic romance series, and numerous articles in literary magazines.

I hope you’ll stop by for a visit at my blog and leave a comment at http://houstonhavens.wordpress.com

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Book two of the Psychic Menage series: Phantom Desire (all five star reviews)

Now this book was one I worried over. Book one Sinful Surrender of this series was such a big hit I feared failing my readers…Kind of like when you see a great movie and then when it’s sequel comes out, it sucks…I didn’t want book two (Phantom Desire) to let my readers down. The story touches on a very sensitive subject (I won’t give a spoiler) but it was a subject that kept me worrying until it came out and I saw all the five star reviews. It was then I knew I hit my mark…with the paranormal.

Phantom Desire:

Mind traveler Chandra Lamar is on the run, not only from her post-catastrophic dystopian government but from a past she can’t remember. A psychic vision pushes her to recall her purpose for being, but it’s a ghost that awakens her desires for a life she fears she’ll never have. Both push her to remember the past because it threatens what she wants in the now; the Nodin men.

Andonis Nodin battles to accept his failures. The heavy burden nearly breaks him when he can’t save the one he loves from the grim reaper’s grip; he questions his desire for Chandra, the woman he blames for the death around him.

Nikias finds true love with Chandra in his arms, but is desperate to stop her from seeking revenge on a mission he knows is a one way trip.

Ortello knows for them to recapture the love they once felt for each other, he must be willing to let her go. But overcoming his obsession to make Chandra his and his alone isn’t easy.

Will Chandra go through with the vengeance in her heart or give it up for love? Who is the powerful woman in her haunting visions and will those revealing apparitions crumble her world with the Nodin clan? Does Chandra find true love in the arms of the Nodin men or does her Phantom Desire forever own her heart?

Featured Author A.C. Harrison

headshotFeatured Interview With A.C. Harrison

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and currently live in Mesa, Arizona. Though I’ve traveled as far as Brazil and Japan, I’ve stayed trued to my roots, having lived in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, and Mesa. I attended ASU in Tempe and have a degree in Japanese language and culture. You could say my desert rat tendencies have definitely influenced me, as my novels do deal with climate change and drought, not to mention all the other challenges faced.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My fascination with books began at a very early age. Reading and writing was very important in my household, with the interesting twist being that my mother was an English-Portuguese translator. I was always reading books above my age level, which was largely due to my father handing me many of his classics to read before I truly understood them. In many cases I would have to return to them and gain more from them, but this taught me to really appreciate novels and to connect a book with its era and culture.

When it comes to writing, I started in grade school and never stopped. When teachers gave out writing assignments, they first had to tell the class the minimum number of pages, then tell me the maximum allowed. This continued into college, where my senior thesis for undergrad was longer than those of many of the graduate students that were sharing a course with me, except this time I had no page limit, so I took advantage of it and scored an A+.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors range in scope, but primarily focus in the sci-fi genre. As I write cyberpunk science fiction, the authors that inspire me include William Gibson and Neal Stephenson, while also reaching back to Philip K. Dick and Robert A. Heinlein. I also enjoy the works of Huxley, Hemingway and Salinger, as well as James Clavell. I like to draw from multiple genres even though I tend to write in one, so despite the grimness of my universe, I like to throw in a nod to great authors such as Douglas Adams and his Hitchhiker’s series. Don’t panic, right?

Catering to my Japanese degree, I also enjoy reading classical works such as those by Murasaki Shikibu (The Tale of Genji) and the war epic “The Tales of the Heike,” both of which I have read in English and classical Japanese. Yoshikawa Eiji and Ibuse Masuji would be two more conventional Japanese authors I greatly enjoy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is actually my premier novel, a cyberpunk adventure titled “Jupiter Symphony” that releases on September 20, 2014 and is now available for pre-order. The book takes place in a post-apocalyptic America that has been whittled down from a terrorist EMP attack, the collapse of the economy, and global climate change. The government has taken up refuge in a giant bunker system known as Fortress Washington from which they send out the military as a mercenary force to bolster their coffers.

As the work is cyberpunk, of course corporations play a role, and in “Jupiter Symphony” they have gained sovereignty, taking advantage of the chaos that reigned after the terrorist attack. Wealth is concentrated at the very top, leaving millions of Americans to live either on the street, out in the desert wasteland, or else work for one of the corporations at a level that is on par with serfdom.

From out of this chaos comes a nomad from the desert that finds himself suddenly caught up in a botched military coup, and so he in turn forms his own power base of the tired, hungry, and sick, eventually beginning a new American Revolution. Unknown to him and his friends, however, is the threat which looms in the heavens overhead that could obliterate them in a flash.

In writing my novel, I tried to keep it grounded in reality without being too grim or heavy handed, although it certainly does deal in politics and society as much as it does with cybernetics, hackers, and high-caliber rifles. The book was a labor of love; I challenged myself to completely finish a writing project, something I had never done outside of school. While the original manuscript only took a few months to write, by the time I was done editing it had nearly doubled in length and I was looking at a release date nearly a year later than I had originally planned. This was all done on my own time, as I still suffer a day job to pay the bills. Despite all this, I know the book is better for it, and I think the readers will really appreciate the hard work and dedication I invested in my novel. I believe in art through adversity, and this book is no exception.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hello everyone! I am a New York City native and I was raised and currently live in Westchester County, NY. I love being a writer and creating new stories for people to enjoy. My main genre is young adult, but I’ll be branching out into new literary genres soon.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I knew that I wanted to be a writer by the age of eight after I created my first graphic novel. I would read various books and watch TV shows and kept thinking that I would have done things differently. After that, I started creating my own stories. It’s now a passion.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have a ton of authors I like to read. Some of them are George RR Martin, John Green, Veronica Roth, Dan Brown, and James Patterson. That’s a REALLY small sampling of who I like to read.

My favorite genre is young adult and action-adventure stories. Thrillers are really great reads.

There are a lot of upcoming authors having great success, especially in the young adult genre, they inspire me.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Cross Roads follows Shawna, a young homeless teenager from New York City, who becomes the target of sinister group of creatures. She comes in contact with the only group capable of protecting her and decides to join them. Shawna’s tale is one of friendship, family, love and loss.

Shawna is one of the more interesting characters I have had the pleasure to create. She is extremely intelligent, but often lets her emotions get the best of her. She also struggles with fitting in and finding her way in the world, something we can all relate to. I wanted to make sure that protagonist was a strong, female character.

Cross Roads took me almost a year to complete. There were some pretty interesting battles between me and my editor and she won them all. I’m okay with that because she was right (most of the time). Cross Roads is the first book in what will be a trilogy.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Born and raised in Montana, I lived in Utah for 25 years before coming home. I have 7 children and 18 grandchildren. I call some of them inherited because I was lucky enough to get a few of them when I got married. I have also lived in Idaho and Wyoming along the way. I love small towns and beautiful scenery. I also love old ghost towns and abandoned places and find then inspirations for my stories.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always wrote short stories and poems even as a small child. i think because I always read. You could always find me with a book in my hand, Two years ago I began writing novels. Now with the 17th getting ready for release you can find me with a notebook and pen in my hand at all times. I write the books longhand before typing them, not my favorite task. When I put the pen to paper the stories seem to unfold magically and the characters take over, possessing my pen and my mind until the story is done, then we start over. I not only am a writer (17) but a reader (2000 +) on Good reads and a reviewer (450 and counting) on Amazon. I really love books!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love Stephen King and Dean Koontz and feel I am a mix somewhere in between, maybe throw in a little V.C. Andrews. Through my own adventure of being an indie author I have discovered so many new talented writers I would need a novel to list them all. I think it is the author and the reader together who make a book come to life and I have been so blessed to receive all great reviews on my books. That is the reader’s imaginations responsible for that and I thank them.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book “Lies in Shadows” is a look into the life and mind of Lucretia. She was almost a prisoner in her home, kept there by well meaning but misguided parents. When Lucretia’s mama dies her spirit is back. Lucretia isn’t sure why but thinks it has something to do with a memory block she has had for years. In trying to unblock the memory the mystery unfolds and Lucretia slowly unravels the shadows hiding in her memory and the lies behind them.
I also have a book “Phases” that will be out in about a week. George has a secret and when his wife dies unexpectedly, George has to get his friend Jake to help him keep the secret safe. “Phases” is a supernatural, suspense thriller that tells the story behind the story and takes readers on an adventurous ride.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Reading, writing and music has always been part of my life. When I was nineteen, I dropped out of college to play in a rock and roll band.

A few years later, I went back to school and got a Master’s Degree in Music and began composing for film and tv. Highlights include 4 seasons on Sesame St and composing music for Expo.

As a person of Chinese heritage, I wanted to see more stories and films that show us as part of the mainstream and started writing and making films. Have won or been nominated for several awards.

In the year, I discovered self-publishing and decided to focus on this. While I’m not a zillionaire yet, critical acclaim has been pretty good. 3 books have hit Amazon Top 100, and one even hit #1 in four kindle categories.

Love to travel. Last count was over twenty countries, eight provinces and almost thirty states.

Moved back to Vancouver where I now live. In spare time, I roast my own coffee which is therapeutic and tastes a whole lot better than Starbucks IMHO. I also zone in music by playing my 1908 Steinway Grand Piano.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading and writing as a kid. Voracious reader and wrote my first “novel” when I was twelve. Sadly, it got lost somewhere along the way. Darn. I’m sure it would have been a best-seller.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Suzanne Collins. Russell Blake. Robert Ludlum but really, I will read almost anything except porn and erotica.

I am inspired by almost anybody who writes a book, makes a film, or paints a picture. Laying your soul on the line is not easy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
For the last year, I have been consumed by writing five books for the SHAOLIN DARKNESS series.

I love action. I love crazy, impossible situations. And I really like cool, complex, multi-dimensional characters.

I wanted to incorporate them in here. Shaolin kung fu Grandmasters. Christian missionaries. Asian Triads. Lawyers.

For example. CHIN – the bad guy. A rogue kungfu monk who arises to redefine Shaolin Kung Fu as a battle plan for his lust for criminal power. Cruelty, murder, and torture are this monk’s hallmarks.

Or our hero MICAH KEATING. Twenty-eight-years-old, movie star looks. Born to missionaries. Mentored by Shaolin. Law school in LA. Gets first job with biggest firm in Hong Kong where he falls in love with his corrupt boss’ daughter. Is he up to the task?

Featured Author Patrick Michael Murphy

me-resizedFeatured Interview With Patrick Michael Murphy

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Small town guy. Was raised in New Lenox, IL, when it had 1,200 people. I now live in San Antonio, Texas, with something like 1,300,000 others. Crazy. Cars everywhere. But there is something about the culture that’s fun too. I like quiet. I like trees. I like cold beer on a hot afternoon and the sound of people laughing. I like volleyball. I feel like I’ve worked really hard in my life and reached retirement age with a lot of others who aren’t sure they’ll ever be able to take it easier… but then, I made my own choices and had a hell of a lot of fun doing it. Life has provided me plenty of things to write about.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’d like to say I remember someone reading to me, but I guess I’ve forgotten that. Great parents, but I don’t remember books being part of it, until I was about 9 or 10. I think one of my first favorites was Gentle Ben, and then, My Side of the Mountain. Great stuff to a kid who was already ready to get out and see what lived in the wild…

And the wild never disappointed me. Rarely do books, as well.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Wallace Stegner and Angle of Repose. Peter Matthiessen and The Snow Leopard. Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls. Stienbeck, Grapes of Wrath. I just read a fantastic book by Philipp Meyer, The Son. I also loved John Muir, for his nature writing. These all inspired me greatly, but not as much as the little wrinkled note on the kitchen table that says, I love you.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
A Forest A River and me, is a memoir about my building a small off-grid cabin on a 20 acre piece of North Idaho riverfront wilderness. It is one of my favorite adventures that tested me, fulfilled me, and ripped me open really… I was alone much of the time in a place I often had to walk four hours to reach. I lived with candle and lamplight only the first year, used a hole in the ground for a toilet, carried water from the river, bathed outside much of time…

I felt free and alive unlike what most of us ever feel these days. But it also had challenges I was not truly prepared for…

It took me about a year of writing to get what I felt was a whittled down first draft. It wasn’t like writing my novel or my essay collection… it was filled with emotion I had felt as deeply as we ever feel. I didn’t understand all of what happened to me out there, and so in writing, much resurfaced, and questions came back to haunt me full force… and so did the beauty. My, it was just so unbelievably lovely out there.

Featured Author Jeffrey G. Roberts

9589208Featured Interview With Jeffrey G. Roberts

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in New York City, raised on Long Island, and spent my teen years in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona. I attended Northern Arizona University, where I received degrees in writing and American history. I write in the genres of science fiction, horror, fantasy, and comedy/fantasy. I’m an aerospace enthusiast and a lover of the planet Mars.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My Mother was always a reader; never saw her without a book. My Father, too. And he was also a writer, for radio, after WW II. So I guess they were a great influence on me. I started writing seriously around 1978.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors? There are so many! Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen King, James Thurber, Thornton Wilder. So many! I guess I’m inspired to a large extent by Douglas Adams and Ray Bradbury.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
This is its premise: What happens when a 22nd century doctor on sabbatical to Mars, suddenly finds himself – through terrorism – stranded 168 years and 150 million miles from loved ones? He is on a violent & primitive world – ours! How will he survive in modern-day Anchorage, Alaska? Moreover, how will he heal the sick using 2181 medical science, without risking exposure of his true identity? But while he dreams of someday returning to his own time, and family, he has no choice; for he is – THE HEALER.

Featured Author David S Reynolds

IMG_2268Featured Interview With David S Reynolds

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born, raised, and live in Tucson, Arizona. I currently share a house with my lovely wife, a neurotic rescue Sheltie, and a demanding cat. In between writing short stories I teach GED classes. This provides the money that I sink into motorcycles, model airplanes, and photography stuff. Someday I might pick something to focus on.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I grew up in a house full of books. They were all around me and the people in my house actually read them so being fascinated with books is really not all that strange. In my world, people have books and they read them. As I grew older I became more and more interested in how a good story can explore an idea or point out social issues without exactly naming them.

I’m not really sure when I started writing. According to legend, my 4th grade teacher recommended that I be tested for special education because I would tell stories but never wrote them down. I don’t remember this for I was too busy being a kid at the time. After a bunch of testing it was decided that I had a learning disability and couldn’t spell. (I still can’t spell which amuses my students greatly.) At any rate, I had this background of people telling me I could write so eventually I decided to put their faith in my ability to good use. My first flash fiction, What Price for Vengeance, eventually became my first short, I’m Sorry. Later I discovered e publishing and I haven’t looked back.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I suppose it’s a bit cliche to say that anything by Asimov, Bradbury, or Clark is going to be good. Mostly I tend to look for an interesting story and then go from there. Most of my reading bounces between mystery and sci-fi but I’ll try just about anything.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest published short is Don’t Press the Red X. It sprang up from a random comment a co-worker made while using the copy machine. I thought it was a fun statement that needed a story. Once the idea filled out I wrote the story down in a day! It’s a mix of time travel and Pandora’s box with a bit of mystery thrown in as well. Sprinkled of top of all this is that first day at work nervousness that we all know too well.

Soon to be released is Aware. Aware spent much more time gestating than Red X, probably about a year between basic idea to finished story. Actual writing time is much less than than that however as I would frequently put it away as I got distracted by something else. Aware came to being because I wanted to write a story about a robot that becomes sentient. The idea came from a book I was reading at the time where an outside power made an existing robot sentient. I found the idea intriguing and wondered what it would look like from the robot’s point of view if this were to happen by accident.

The accident turned out to be a meteor striking an ore runner in space that sends Repair Bot 3 spinning off into space and on a journey of self discovery and growth. Along the way RB3’s story introduced me to Jenkens, a hard as nails space navigator that hates robots. She was originally created simply to have someone for RB3 to talk to and ended up being much greater than that. Her story came to explore what it means to be human just as much as RB3 did. It really was a wonderful surprise.

Aware should be out by the end of November at the latest and I will let everybody who follows me on Facebook and Twitter know when it is released.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; however, I left home in 1961 to study at St. Mark Seminary in Erie, Pennsylvania, from which I graduated in 1965.

In 1966, I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and am a Vietnam veteran. Upon being released from active duty, I was hired by the H.J. Heinz Company as a shipping clerk. Five promotions and thirty-three years later, I retired as the manager of the company’s food processing facility in Pittsburgh.

My late wife and I were married in 1970. We had five children and shared a wonderful life together for thirty-five and a half years. Today, I am the proud father of four adult children and have four grandchildren.

I have lived in Glenshaw, Pennsylvania for the past thirty years.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember and have always preferred reading to watching television, listening to the radio, or playing games.

Writing a novel was actually just one of several goals, included in a bucket list that my late wife insisted that I create when I retired. I just wanted to see if I could do it. After reading the manuscript, two of my adult children pleaded with me for months to at least make an attempt to have it published.

Four rejection letters and one publishing contract later, my novel “Levels” was released August 9, 2011.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are: Jean M. Auel, Kazuo Ishiguro, Gary Jennings, Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, J.K. Rawling, and J.R.R. Tolkein. (Listed in alphabetical order by author, not by preference.)

I have an eclectic taste when it comes to reading.; any genre, as long as the book is technically well-written, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

My inspiration, while writing my one and only novel, was my life experience and the people I have met while living it. Each character’s personality is actually based, at least partially, upon a real person.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Levels”* is a post-apocalyptic novel, depicting the end-result of a social experiment, conducted by a group of dedicated men and women, to eliminate all of the institutions, philosophies, and bad behavior in general, which they believed contributed to the downfall of previous societies.

Within three centuries: war, crime poverty, hunger, prejudice, inequality, greed, and vanity have been eradicated. However, they are not the only things that have disappeared. The institution of marriage, the family unit concept, long-term intimate relationships, and religion no longer exist.

The reader accompanies the main character Jonathan and his companions, who have just completed their formal primary education and indoctrination, as they set out to prove worthy of advancement within the various levels of their social structure and discover more about their world and those that control it.

*”Levels” is available in paperback, e-Book download (Kindle/Nook/Tablet), audio book on CD (9 discs), and audio book download – 8 hours listening time, narrated by Stephen Rozzell.

sam001Featured Interview With Gideon Stevens

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in North Carolina, and lived there until I was 18. Then I lived in Texas, New Jersey, Virginia, California, Boston, Baltimore, Virginia (again) and now I’m back in North Carolina. Some of that travel was because I was in the U.S. Coast Guard, some of it was just wanderlust. I think I’ve settled down now, but you never know.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was in first grade when I had that wonderful experience of being “lost in the book” for the first time. The book was P.D. Eastman’s “Sam and the Firefly.” There’s a post about it on my website.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’ve read a lot of the famous Sci-Fi writers: Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke, and other familiar names. At some point I wanted to branch out, so I asked a librarian how to find good books. She told me to look for Pulitzer Prize winners, on the theory that if it won a prize, it’s probably pretty good. For the most part, that advice has not disappointed me. Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to adapt to the language used in the classics of literature, but the effort is usually rewarded. Those are the authors that inspire me, although I write in a more modern idiom. Especially John Steinbeck, George Elliot, Thomas Hardy, and William Faulkner. I don’t imagine for a moment that I reach their level — but they inspire me.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Tin Man and Rabbit” is my first novel. I’ve been working in the publishing industry much of my life, so I thought I’d give it a try. I made a conscious decision to begin on my birthday. The night before, I had a little talk with my brain. “Okay, brain, you’re not much, but you’re all I have. While I’m sleeping tonight, I want you to work out a story I can write.” Then I went to sleep. I had a lovely dream about a couple getting lost in the woods. When I woke up I thought, “A romance? Really?” The first step was to figure out why they were in the woods, and once I had that, the rest of it just blossomed by itself. I wrote for 16 hours that first day, went to bed exhausted, then woke up raring to go again. That happened day after day. I’d have the file open on my computer in the morning before the coffee was ready. I forgot to eat some days, barely slept, and didn’t leave the house. I completely forgot about Facebook and television. 10 days later I was done. Then I spent about a month revising and gave it to an editor. She pulled it apart and helped me make it better.

The story centers around Tom and Lisa. He’s a divorced loner who is being forced by a greedy developer to sell his childhood home. She’s the real-estate agent who is helping him find a new place to live — and a new way to look at life. But Lisa’s ex is jealous, another (sexy) real-estate agent is making moves, and the entire town is talking about them. One reviewer said it would make a good romantic-comedy film, so I’m day-dreaming about that now. Sandra Bullock, of course — but Tom Hanks or George Clooney — I can’t decide.

It’s a story that will quicken your pulse, make you smile, and give you sweet dreams. I think that’s what you want from a romance, whether it’s real or fiction.

Featured Author Arabella Sheen

0541Featured Interview With Arabella Sheen

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Arabella Sheen is a successfully published British author. Her novels – Blinded by Desire and Temporary Bride – have been well received and are acquiring excellent reviews from her loyal following of romance readers. Arabella likes nothing more than the challenge of a blank page. Starting a new novel, with new ideas and new plots, she aims to excite her readers, drawing them into the sparkling, elegant world of romance, love and passion. Her novels are for the true romantic. They’re places where readers are able to escape with jet-setting billionaires, be flown to exotic locations and cosmopolitan destinations, only to be caught up in the heartbreaking decisions and emotional conflicts her sophisticated, strong alpha hero’s and equally strong resourceful heroine’s have to make.
One of the many things Arabella loves to do is read and when she’s not reading or writing modern romantic novels she is either on her allotment, sowing and planting with the seasons, or she is pandering to the demands of her attention seeking cat.
Having worked and lived in the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands for nearly twenty years, she now lives in the South of England with her family. As well as constantly developing and promoting her writing career she also works in a busy international hotel where she is able to meet lots of interesting people from various parts of the world and from whom she often gains inspiration and ideas to include and incorporate in her contemporary romance novels.
Arabella hopes her readers have as much pleasure from her ‘easy reading’ ebooks and paperbacks as she has in writing them.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
At an early age my parents encouraged me to visit the local library where I used to find a quiet corner in which to sit and read. I’d then take home three books (three was the limit) and devour them at bedtime, hopefully finishing them before they were returned the following week. I had lots of books to read as a child, but my very first ‘grown-up’ book – a book which had no pictures in – was The Borrower’s by Mary Norton. Since then I’ve become an avid romance reader and now every opportunity I get I’m scribbling away in notebooks or typing up ideas on the laptop for my next romance novel.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
In literature I’m torn between two genres. Modern contemporary fiction is the genre in which I write. It is also the book genre I read the most. But . . . my all-time favourite author belongs to another genre. The author, who transports me to places I would love to be, lets me meet people I would love to see, and takes me to a time in history that is so romantic I could swoon, is regency writer Georgette Heyer. So if conditions were ideal . . .
On a sunny afternoon I’d be in a quiet corner of the library, reclining gracefully on a chaise lounge with a genteel regency romance novel in my hand, enjoying the moment. Or . . .
I’d be relaxing on a hot tropical beach, flicking the pages on my kindle whilst reading a passionate, sexy, sizzling romance novel about a jet-setting billionaire hero and a strong feisty heroine.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
TEMPORARY BRIDE . . . is a tender romance with a hint of hot, sizzling passion.

Max Jordan is one of America’s most powerful, leading corporate layers. He is also the major stockholder and head of the billion dollar corporation – Jordan Diamond Empire. Max must marry soon to keep the business safe and secure from a takeover. Returning to England in search of the only woman he knows and trusts – he tracks Amy Denver down, and asks her to marry him.
Amy Denver wants nothing to do with Max Jordan . . . and she certainly wants nothing to do with his marriage proposal. Five painful years have passed since Max disappeared from her life and a lot has happened to her in between. Amy now has a secret she’d rather Max didn’t discover . . . her secret is Jake . . . their son. Once again Amy finds herself surrendering to Max and his demands as he whisks her and Jake off to Waterfront, his private, secluded home in the Hamptons.

TEMPORARY BRIDE was a delight to write. In this novel there is a totally different set of characters with totally different challenges compared to my debut novel – BLINDED by DESIRE. Having found a wonderful editor/proofreader who helped tremendously, and also the Romantic Novelist Association Bath/Wilts Chapter has been extremely supportive, giving me lots of advice and great tips, the book took several pleasurable months to produce, from start date to publication.
There were moments during my time writing TEMPORARY BRIDE when I was emotionally torn because of the struggles and heart wrenching decisions Amy had to face when dealing with the overbearing yet deeply attractive Max. But there were also extreme highs when she won her battles. Amy has to make some tough decisions. Decisions not only about Jake, their child, but also about her career and life. It is through her strong determination and strength of mind that she find true love.
TEMPORARY BRIDE is a romance novel that delivers love, passion, and desire to its readers.
