Featured Interview With Rebecca Howie

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a 19-year-old writer from Scotland, and I live with my family and our two dogs- a Westie and a Cavapoo.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember how old I was when I started writing for fun, but I do remember it being after a party and getting a shiny blue notepad in the gift bag and that I had a compulsion to fill all the blank pages.

We got a computer a few years later and I was glued to it, but then I stopped writing for a while because I never thought that writing could be a career or that it was something I could do. Something got me back into writing eventually, and it was a coping mechanism for me through the hard times I didn’t realise were difficult until they were over.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite genre is either mystery or thriller, depending on what I’m in the mood to read. If I start trying to predict the book’s end, I’ll change it up and read some YA novels, or humour, until I get bored of those, but the cycle usually repeats itself after a few months.

I don’t think I could choose favourite authors, because I tend to choose a book based on its synopsis, its cover and its reviews, but JK Rowling and Arthur Conan Doyle would definitely be on that list because I know I can go back to their books and reread them if I can’t find anything else which catches my interest.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Game Begins is a YA mystery, and is about a seventeen-year-old girl who’s still struggling to come to terms with her dad’s death four years after the car crash which took him away. When her nightmares return, her friend Alex suggests she take a PI course and find answers herself, but Sam is brought a case which at first appears to be about a series of break-ins, but which quickly becomes far more sinister when Sam is threatened and one of the victims is murdered.

It was inspired by my curiosity as to whether I could write a mystery novel that kept its answers a secret until the end, and by asking myself what if things had been worse, because the last few years haven’t exactly been easy for me and I’m a pessimist, so had to consider the alternatives.

Sam herself is based loosely on me, but she changed a lot when I redrafted and edited and nitpicked and realised that the first draft was more or less a dramatised autobiography of my life. There’re still quite a lot of similarities, and I write her reactions by imagining myself in her situation, but the big difference, aside from the fact that my hair isn’t red, is that I would never go after a crime family like she did, or continue to investigate my case if they threatened me off it.

It takes all sorts.

Featured Interview With Lori L. Robinett

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in central Missouri and went to college at the University of Central Missouri. After a stint as a college admissions officer, where I covered an eleven state territory, I moved back to central Missouri and began working in the legal field. My daughter was born extremely prematurely, which served as inspiration for my latest book, Fatal Obsession. She’s now grown and flown, and I’ve returned to writing. My hubby of 20+ years and I live on a mini farm with our mini schnauzer and mini beagle (and we used to have mini horses!). I love reading and writing, but also take time to scrapbook and craft when I need a break. I’m also a hopeless TV addict (currently loving The 100, Madam Secretary, and the Blacklist), and am a Trekkie (one of my most prized possessions is a piece of artwork autographed by William Shatner, George Takei and Walter Koenig).

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved reading and writing. When I was in my tweens, I started filling notebooks with stories. A couple of teachers, Mr. Sims and Mrs. Schafer encouraged me to explore my talent, and I got a couple of short stories published in anthologies thanks to their support. I toyed with writing for years, but got more serious several years ago when I discovered National Novel Writing Month. All of my published novels have been drafted during NaNoWriMo. There’s nothing like building a new world and creating characters that take on a life of their own. My favorite writing time is when I am acting as the conduit as the characters tell me what happens.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m a bit of a book slut. I tend to read anything and everything, from mystery to romance and everything in between. When I was younger, I devoured Stephen King books (my favorite of late was 1963). For years, I read every Patricia Cornwell, Stuart Woods and James Patterson book that came out. Rom coms are what I turn to when I want a beach read and for those, nobody beats Tawna Fenske. My favorite currently is cozy mysteries, particularly Diane Kelly’s Paw Enforcement series. I’m a sucker for a book with a dog in it!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Fatal Obsession is about a young mother whose life is torn asunder. Sophie was a foster child and values family above all else. She thinks her dream has come true, until the night her husband hints that he experimented on their unborn child. Suddenly, she sees her brilliant scientist husband in a new light. There’s a tragic accident, and she lets Blake die. The man he works for, Marcus Chaney, is powerful and rich, the driving force behind the research, and he will stop at nothing to get his hands on the research within her. Sophie goes on the run, terrified at the thought of what might be growing in her stomach, but a mother’s protective instinct is strong. She’s drawn to the Research Center, fearful of what she might find, but desperate for information. Marcus is determined to find her, because her fetus holds the key to the cure for the cancer that is eating his mother alive. Will Sophie be able to save her baby from him?

Featured Interview With Yolonda Sweitzer

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a writer living in the Midwest, specifically Ohio, and when I’m not writing I work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. I was born and raised in Ohio and spent two years living in Chicago post college before returning to my rural roots. Caring for animals is one of my passions! I have many pets. Right now that pet list includes 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 rabbits, and 2 squirrels.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved writing and books, more so as I’ve grown older. I wrote my first short stories and poems at a very young age, having my first poem published at 11. However, growing up my parents had to force me top read because I liked spending all of my free time outside. I began reading more in college, which is when I began writing with a serious interest in being published rather than just writing for fun. My first novel, a historical romance, was published when I was 26.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love all book genres and I’ll read almost anything. Some of my favorites are Jane Austen, Nicholas Sparks, Brad Meltzer, Richard Matheson, Stephen King. (Like I said, I love a bit of everything!) In my writing I focus on romance, science fiction and fantasy. Many people and things inspire my writing: family, friends, music, movies, travel to name a few. I find inspiration all around me, and often in the most unexpected places.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My most recently published book is a contemporary romance for adults. It took me about two months to write. Here is the blurb of the book.

When small-town police officer, Johnathan Reed, comes crashing from the sky into her remote country home wrecking part of her property and jeopardizing her livelihood, Aribella Corday can’t believe her terrible luck. The last thing she needs is a cop hanging around, snooping into her business and potentially discovering the secret of her illicit side-job operation—even if he does have a body built for sin and a smile to die for.

All Johnathan Reed wanted was a brief, adrenaline-fueled escape from the memories of his failed relationship and the traumas that haunt him from the past. What he gets is a day of off-duty Good Samaritan work cleaning up the mess he created for the pretty, fiery-spirited owner of the property he crash-landed into who refuses to let him off the hook without getting what she wants.

When a blizzard hits, trapping them together, it’s only a matter of time before Johnathan discovers the guilty secret that Aribella’s been keeping, finding himself pulled deeper into her life than he ever could have expected. The question is, can they keep their cool amid the heat of their connection? Or will they lose their cool and find an alternate way to keep warm during the storm, allowing themselves to embrace the fall they never saw coming?

Since Embracing the Fall’s publication I’ve been writing for young adults and am currently working on a science fiction series.

Featured Interview With Jim Cronin

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Today, I am a happily semi-retired science teacher living in the Denver, Colorado area. After over thirty years teaching I decided to try and figure out what I wanted to do if and when I ever grew up. Currently, I work three days a week at teh Denver Museum of Nature and Science as an educator/performer. My job now allows me to become an astronaut on Mars, a pirate bacteriologist, play gallileo with water balloons, and play with kids all day. So much fun. Still teaching science, but without all the paper grading!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books, but school took away much of the joy with all the textbooks I had to read. Once I graduated and had time to decompress, I regained my love of a good story and have had a book, or two or three, at my side ever since. I love many different and diverse genres, but science fiction and fantasy are my true loves. I’ve read LOTR at least five times.
I never considered writing until I was almost sixty years old. I was helping my brother with some ideas for a book he was writing when he challenged me to write one of my own. It proved to be so much fun, I kept going.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I think my inspiration comes from the old school science fiction authors. Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Philip K. Dick, H.G. Wells and others. I love the way science fiction can be used a a medium to give us a bit of insight into ourselves and current situation without being too heavy handed. A well written, story, with strong characters is something I strive for. I want to bring people into a new world of my invention that reflects our own.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Brin Archives is an epic scifi trilogy involving time travel, clones, high tech biologic enhancements, political intrigue, power, greed and values, all set in a unique universe.
Hegira, Book one of the series, tells the story of Karm. Discovered by aliens as a vial of DNA in a derelict spaceship, he is cloned and implanted with an advanced biocomputer which gives him extrodinary abilities. The aliens give him the task of traveling back in time to rescue his species from their dying sun and bring them to a new world. He must overcome the political power of the government which wants to take control over teh project, and a group of fanatics who try to stop them all as heretics.
Recusant, Book two, picks up the story several hundred years in the future with Maliche, a distant descendant of Karm and the others in book one. Maliche discovers a terrible secret the government and his own family is covering up and attempts to set right this evil . He discovers a race of people thought to be long extinct and learns the truth about how his ancestors settled on this world, a far different story from the one everyone is taught.
Empyrean, book three, is still in the editing process, but should be released later this year.
Books one and two of the series are in print and available on Amazon, book three iis in its final stages of editing and should be available later this year. Here, Maliche and others suspect the aliens who first rescued Karm and helped rescue the Brin may not be who they have claimed to be. The enemy in an ongoing intergalactic war may not be the real enemy. Maliche and several others, some of whom have the ability to control technology telepathically, must travel back in time to discover the truth before a new technological wonder is activated. Is the device the answer to all energy needs of the galaxy, or the means of its total annihilation?

Featured Interview With Ella Clem

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Calif. and now living in KY., with my husband, Jimmy in a log cabin out in the woods.
We have whitetail deer’s, flying squirrels, squirrels, many birds, etc. that lives in our woods, that we like to call our pets, grin. We lost our dear family member, (our dog} Smokey, she was 19 years old, it broke our hearts to lose her. We know in time that we will see her again up above in a beautiful place.
Our children are grown now with children of their own. We love being grandparents, and enjoy spending time with our families.
I’m a wildlife photographer and author of the book “Whitetail Deer Family” Jimmy helped me to find the deer that I took pictures of to put in my book.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My parents started me out liking books. They would read stories to me before I could read. One of the schools that I went to in Calif. had a reading program that we could join. One of the programs that they had would help kids to read faster and understand what they had read. The other program was summer reading; we had to read 12 books during the summer months when we were out of school. My mother use to take me to the library to check out books to read.
I started to write my first and only book in 2015. People that saw my deer family pictures, use to say,” You need to put out a book using your deer pictures.” I would say, “I’m not a writer, I’m a photographer.” I finally said that I would try, just to see what happens.
I didn’t have a clue as to where to start. I got out my deer pictures and would look at a picture and say, what is this picture saying to me? One picture at a time is how my book got started. After I got my pictures and information about the deer family wrote down: I then had to look for a publisher to publish my book. I had to do a lot of research to find the right publisher, being as it was my first book.
I’m now working on putting out a Bird book, using the pictures that I have taken of them over the years.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I really don’t have a favorite author, it depends on what I want to read, I like to read true stories most of the times or books that I can learn from, like books about taking pictures, books about birds, etc.
My family and friends inspires me to write and take pictures.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
This is my first book so far, it is called, “Whitetail Deer Family.” The book follows twin fawns, Susie and Billy as they grow up in the woods. There is Mother Deer, Father Deer, and their Deer friends.
There are photographs of the deer on each page, with a few short story lines at the top of the pages for the younger reader and at the bottom of the pages there is information about the deer.
This book isn’t meant to be a bedtime story; it is a learning book about the deer family for people of all ages.
The purpose of my book is to provide more information into the life of a deer. They are not detailed, but I hope that they will be helpful in adding some additional insight about the deer family.
My book took me about a year, from start to finish. It was fun at times; it was hard at times in putting my first book together. I had so much to learn about putting a book out.
I’m now working on a Bird book, with pictures on each page. I’m still learning on how to write, what to write and how to put it all together: that makes it interesting. We are never too old to learn new things.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada on a small farm. I emigrated to the United
States in 1984 to marry my wife in Janesville, Wisconsin, where I now reside. Our dog Osho is
half chow and half lab and can go anywhere and do anything. Osho went to the top of Pikes Peak

for the British Columbia Forest Service in the 1970’s and later published outdoor maps and guidebooks.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading when I was five years old and never stopped. I particularly liked action and adventure books which stimulated my imagination and led me to a varied life following my dreams
and interests. Writing always came easily to me and I began writing professionally for a daily
newspapers in the 1970’s, later doing freelance writing and publishing outdoor recreation maps
and guidebooks. ‘Eye of the Hurricane 1’ is my first novel at age 62. Better late than never.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Now I mostly read non-fiction, particularly biographies and books about the outdoors.
There are many authors I am a fan of including Jack Kerouac, Ian Fleming and Edward
Abbey.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
‘Eye of the Hurricane 1’ an ebook available on Amazon, Nook, Ibooks, Kobo

A news junkie saves lives and property from global warming, conceiving and building the world’s first Supercavitation Nuclear

Crewed by a dream team of ocean research and technology experts, Eye 1 can travel at 127 mph underwater and dive to the deepest parts of the world’s oceans. Eye of the Hurricane 1 takes The Hunt For Red October to the next level with an epic undersea ride that will have you glued to the edge of your seat. Plus the greatest deep ocean romance of all time.
Eye of the Hurricane 1 took me four years to write and I almost gave up multiple times. If this
book sells enough, I will write another book entitled ‘Wildfire’, describing my vision of how wildfires
will be fought in 40 or 50 years. I am a former wildland firefighter.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in North Alabama, however, I lived on Lake Superior in Michigan and Portland, OR for short stints as a kid. I currently live in the greater Birmingham, AL area with my family. I strongly dislike yard work and sanding the deck rail. However, I perform such duties to maintain a nice home for my loved ones as well as the family’s German Shepherds. In my spare time, I ride herd as a Computer Whisperer on large computers called servers (harmonica not required). Additionally, I enjoy reading, running, most sports and fantasy football. Having a degree in Anthropology, I also have a wide array of more “serious” interests in addition to working regularly to hone my writing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was in grade school when I became fascinated by The Hobbit and my reading expanded from there to The Lord of the Rings and beyond.

I started writing as I transitioned from high school to college several decades ago. There were several fits and starts along the way but the original book became The Bow of Destiny which I finally published in 2015.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Fantasy is definitely my favorite genre though I stray all over the reading landscape (though there are several genres I never read). My favorite author is Tolkien because his work got me really hooked on reading. Other writers I like are C. S. Lewis, Ursula K. LeGuin, Patricia McKillip, Anne McCaffrey and Robert Jordan to name a few.

Featured Interview With Nikki Fuller

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Nikki is as she describes herself just ‘one woman’. Whether this be as a daughter, mother, wife or business entrepreneur. Through the different caps she wears like many other women, she has seen and experienced the highs and lows in life so far. She now lives in the beautiful countryside near Buckinghamshire, not too far from London with her husband, daughter and crazy dog, in their own pub/restaurant. But in her growing up years, she lived in Holland, which certainly had a big influence on the way she is today. She puts her hands up to struggling with ‘Life’ and anxiety and strives every day to find that ‘Happy’ place and even some days finds it! Nikki tries to find positive affirmations that help make life more comfortable to wear and if she can’t, she’ll put a twist of humour on things, as sometimes laughing is the only answer!

She has dealt with depression and post-natal depression and scrapped her way through her entrepreneurial avenues, and what she didn’t know, she has learnt along the way. Her books are short reads (which she prefers), that give an insight into parts of her life and lessons learnt.

When asked what kind of book does she enjoy to read, she replied ” Ones that I can either relate to, or gain something from and if it can be done in short chapters or fit into 10 minutes here and there, even better!…I like to think that I write, how I would either like to read or as if I was chatting to a good friend”.
There are currently 2 books in this series, with the first being ‘One Woman vs Life’ but along with wearing different caps, she admits to having a few sides, hence also writing Children stories and other fiction and non-fiction. Why box yourself in, when you can be anything you want to be?

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always had a fascination with books, especially children’s books. I love the wonder of it all but as I got older (not grew up! as that’s still something I work on), I found myself drawn to autobiographies or books that would make me a better version of myself. That’s not to say, I don’t enjoy an easy beach read to escape to. In fact I love the idea that different books, genres open up different windows. Each will give you something different and each is personal to you. Which is the same with my writing, I won’t box myself into one genre. I have a pen name for my adult fiction and others pieces, I am simply myself. Writing myself didn’t come to only recently. Yes, when I was younger, I’d write short pieces or ‘dabble’ but it was really only a couple of years ago that I almost felt I needed to write. To let feelings that I had bottled up and going around in my head, be released. To help me and hopefully to help others who have gone through or are going through feelings of anxiety, depression or grief. Life deals us some highs and lows and sometimes sharing how we got through it, can be a comfort to all.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am fascinated with autobiographies but my favourite has to be ‘David Jason’ My Life’. A real treat to read with a journey of emotions.
If I had to save one collection of books that I have, I cannot deny it would be Beatrix Potter. The simplicity and yet mature tone of each is unique. So few words that she wrote for each, lead each reader to so much more. Purely charming in every way.
I have a collection of books which include easy reads and of course Jackie Collins. No bookcase is complete without something to indulge in with a glass of red but books that I can say changed the way I am, influenced me and guided me would certainly include: Don’t sweat the small stuff by Richard Carlson, The rules of Life, The curse of the strong by Dr Tim Cantopher and Susan Jeffers classic ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’ to name but a few.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
One Woman’s PRIVATE LIFE “SHARED” is the 2nd in the series of ‘One Woman’ Books and is a warm and approachable short read. Events taken from my own experiences, whether love, death & grief or the darkness of depression, from just one woman’s point of view. Offers an insight into sensitive and private subjects and my experience of the twists and turns life can bring at work or at home. Have you lost someone close unexpectedly? Struggled finding your career path but fought to become successful and true to yourself whilst coping with anxiety or depression? Reads like women chatting in the ladies! or friends getting together over a drink, with openness and honesty with a light and approachable touch. If you have dreams and aspirations and have had to cope with the troubles that life can deal you, with Life and Loss, you may find reading this helpful, to know you are not alone. With some helpful affirmations and tips then ‘One Woman’s PRIVATE LIFE “SHARED” will be a welcome companion and motivate you to be kind to yourself and remain strong to embrace life today and all it offers. You deserve to be Happy and Successful. Even if success if just about successfully getting through today.

Featured Interview With Dipika Mukherjee

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing very young. With our constant moving, writing gave me some structure, it was something I was consistently good at even when the curriculum changed at different schools. I had my first poem published in a newspaper in Wellington when I was about 10, a really juvenile rhymed piece that makes me cringe now, but that was where it all began. Wellington was a great place to flex my writing muscles; they have Katherine Mansfield plus Maori folklore and lots of magic happens.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read EVERYTHING. I do like women who take on politics, like Arundhati Roy and Margaret Atwood and Naomi Shihab Nye (poetry). I love “Midnight’s Children” but not much else by Rushdie; I have little author loyalty so even with Amitav Ghosh, I did love some of his earlier books, but not so much the trilogy. I love the current chicklit being written by Anuja Chauhan in India where she takes on Indian politics in Hinglish and I am devouring all of Tana French’s books as she is the most amazing mystery writer. Elena Ferrante was great, as was Michel Houellebecq’s “Submission”. Right now I am reading Philip Roth’s “The Plot Against America” and trying to figure out a strategy to deal with our current political situation without going mad. I really like Atul Gawande and Malcolm Gladwell.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Shambala Junction is a story that explores a serious issue (how international adoptions are fuelling child trafficking) but it is as much about clueless Iris Sen finding herself as it is about finding a missing baby about to be sold to a rich westerner. It took me about four months to churn out a first draft of this book (no kidding!) then six long years to polish it so that it became publishable and won the Virginia Prize for Fiction in the UK in 2016. It is hard to write about a serious topic engagingly — the writerly soapbox is so easy to climb on and then topple over — so it was a lot of work making the characters all engaging. There are some villains in this story, but I hope that I have shown that poverty and desperation leads to more victimhood than anything else. Sometimes we are complicit in a crime without even knowing it. I love the feedback coming in on Goodreads and Amazon — readers have been overwhelmingly positive. I was concerned that readers in Asia may find some characters pandering to a stereotype, or that American audiences may just not want to look at the horrors in another country, but all is good, readers all seem to agree that the book works, no matter where they are geographically.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Lorain, Ohio. Graduated from the local high school and joint vocational school. Currently I live in a old farm house with my husband and daughter. We raise poultry of all kinds as pets. Plus our dogs, cat and hamster.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Growing up I despised reading anything and it wasn’t until I had my daughter that I started to read. At the time of her birth I was out of work due to medical complications so I didn’t have money to buy new books for her. So my remedy was reading old encyclopedia’s to her. We got through the letter “E” before I bought her first book. “Baby Loves”.
It didn’t take me long to figure out that she liked longer stories. Luckily I had most of the books that were purchased for me throughout my school years. By kindergarten I was buying myself books to read something that wasn’t a fairy tale.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Since I now read from all different genre from historical fiction to sci-fantasy I have many authors that are my go to books. Such as Anne Bishop, Catherine Asaro, and Philippa Gregory.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My current Book “Of Lite and Darke” Follows Princess Nisha as she comes to her homeland where she is to rule. Not even a day after being there she realizes everything that she knew about her parents death had been a lie. With the help of he betrothed and cousin they slowly start to piece together what is real and what historical facts had been changed.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta Canada and still call it home for now. I have a Brussels griffon dog who motivates me to get out of bed when I don’t feel like it and also gets me to see the beauty of the world around me while we are out on walks.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I first fell in love with writing when I was 9 since that’s when I knew that I was meant to be a writer after I wrote my first story for school. Books came to play an important part of my life when I was a teenager since it was my escape from whatever was bothering me.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite author is Stephen King since I love how he draws the readers in right from the beginning. I enjoy horror, books on the paranormal, and spiritual books. Who inspires me in my writings I would have to say I try to be like Stephen King since I want to draw my readers into my stories from the get go instead of dragging them along for awhile until the book gets interesting since by then the reader usually gives up.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book all began with a conversation that I had with a friend and that’s when the idea came to me about a love triangle and then it grew into a square from there. I started my book with the idea of Rick and Marilyn being a couple, but soon Elaine demolished tat idea and I knew by the end of the first page that the characters had a story to tell. The book has a lot of twists and turns and you never know which way it will take you, so you better fasten your seat belt, sit back and enjoy the ride the characters take you on. The book took me about eight months to write since I wasn’t working at the time, so I wrote from morning to night with a few breaks to take my dog on his walks.

Featured Interview With Sheri Chapman

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Sheri Chapman. I was an Air Force brat, so I really didn’t have a place to call “home” until I was thirteen and my father retired. I went to high school in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and eventually attended college to become a teacher of high-functioning special education students. My area of emphasis is reading and written language. I currently live in Spokane, Missouri, and I continue to teach in Ozark, Missouri.
I also have a kennel in which I raise my furry passion, Pomeranians. I love all animals, but these little fluffy dogs are my addiction! I also love to read and write. When I retire from teaching in May of 2020, I plan to expand my writing career and delve more into showing dogs.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began writing in elementary school. I first stated that I wanted to be an author when I was in fifth grade. I love the worlds one can create, and I love sharing my enjoyments with others.
My first long story I’d ever written was when I was in fifth grade. I named it, “The Horse of Silver Lake.” At that time, I loved the Black Stallion series, and that inspired my writing.
In high school, I wrote a short story about werewolves. I’ve actually written two books where I expanded this story, but I haven’t yet edited it to submit for publication. My first priority is to finish my Passion series.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always loved romance books, but my all time favorite author is J.K. Rowling. Harry Potter is the perfect series of books of all time! I aspire to be half the author she is. I am currently enjoying Jo’s book, The Cuckoo’s Calling, written as Robert Galbraith.
I also love Nora Roberts (aka J.D. Robb). Her futuristic novels of her “in Death” series are spellbinding! I’ve loved every book I’ve ever read of Nora’s! James Patterson, as well as many more authors, engage much of my time. I love action, crime, suspense, and romance.
Another of my all-time favorite authors is Jean M. Auel. I love how Jean develops her Earth’s Children’s characters, especially of those of the Clan. The information and knowledge her members of the Clan display with healing is woven into a fascinating tale. I love how this magical author integrates history into fiction and weaves beautiful and realistic stories. It was intriguing to read about the Clan’s rituals and beliefs, and how she portrayed the two different peoples’ introductions into each other’s worlds.
I think Jean probably inspired my Passion books, where I took my love of native culture and the good earth and combined them into a (hopefully) believable tale of historic romance. I tried to portray the use of raw materials into usable products by the Sioux and how they didn’t waste anything. They preserve and honored life. I wanted to contrast this with the white man and introduce the two cultures in as charming and romantic a way as possible.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Wild Passions is a historical romance where Spirit Bear, the Sioux war chief, saves a white woman from the clutches of an evil man. Kaitlin was injured, so Spirit Bear nurses her back to health. Kaitlin doesn’t understand that she owes the chief her life, for the red man’s culture is vastly different from the white man’s. When Kaitlin realizes she will not be returned to the the only world she’s ever known, it’s too late. She has already fallen for the handsome chief, but how could Kaitlin ever be happy when she was merely a possession in his eyes?
My very first work was over 400,000 words. I haven’t really attempted to publish it. (It was about a murderer). I believe it took me several years to write that as I was very inspired. As I’ve gotten older (and more involved with my growing children’s lives), writing became more difficult as I find it increasingly difficult to sit down (uninterrupted) to write. I think Wild Passions took me a year and a half to complete. The second book, Passions of the Heart, took longer as I got a serious writer’s block half way through. However, I’m finally finished with the sequel! I’m currently editing it before I submit for publication.

Featured Interview With Nichole Giles

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’ve lived in a lot of places, actually. I was born in Nevada, but we left there when I was six, and after that I changed schools almost every year for the rest of my school-going years. I’ve lived in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Texas. For now, I’ve settled in Utah with my husband and 4 children (who are mostly adults now). Currently, we have one dog that is ours along with one grand-kitty and one grand-dog who recently left our house to live with our newly married daughters (2) and sons-in-law. I’d call my 16-year-old son a pet, but he’s just not that furry.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Because I moved schools so often, I was never able to develop intimately close friendships the way some people did, but I did develop a deep love of reading. Wherever I was, no matter when, I could always find a friend within the pages of a book, and it had the benefits of making life feel a lot less lonely, and also giving me courage to strike up new friendships in each new place. I have very few memories of elementary school, but I do remember my fourth grade teacher praising a short story I’d written for a project, and telling me he thought I’d be a writer someday. I kind of blew that off at the time, and didn’t take a lot of interest in writing for lots of years. Instead, I focused on theater and choir as a teen. It wasn’t until I was married, with children who demanded all of my energy and time, that I found solace in writing. That was more than a decade ago. I still find solace in it, and now my kids are grown!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have a very hard time picking favorites, because I feel like there are so many wonderful authors to choose from, and so many different qualities and talents that have impacted and influenced my own writing style. I could list a lot, but we’d be here for days. At the moment, I try to read a lot of books in the young adult genre, and I just adore Leigh Bardugo’s work–every one of her books is so beautifully written and plotted. Suzanne Collins has influenced me as well. I love anything different or unusual, especially if the writing is descriptive and poetic. I also read a lot of romance, but I’m more particular about that genre. The story has to be fresh, and the characters three-dimensional enough that I can identify with them, even when I disagree with their choices. I’m a fan of Nora Roberts, and also Heather Tullis. Really important to me, though is kissing. I write and read kissing books, because the one thing all my favorites have in common is a strong romantic thread.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is the third in my Descendant series, titled Legacy. Not going to lie, that book was the hardest book I’ve written so far, because I wrote the first book in the series, Descendant, more than a decade earlier. That particular book was re-written and revised, and cut and re-drafted no fewer than 25 times. I had actually decided to let it go and move on when I was offered a publication contract for it. Funny how that works. After more than five years of fighting to get that book right, I had less than 12 months to write a sequel. Just as I finished the sequel and turned it in (ON TIME) my publisher announced that they were closing. That was a tough time for me. Then that same year, my agent, who had been submitting Water So Deep to publishers, decided mid-way through that she needed to quit agenting. It wasn’t my year! But I persevered and signed with a new agent, and then gained back my rights to my Descendant series. At that point, I promised myself that regardless of how many readers I kept through the rocky transition period, I would finish the three-book series I’d intended to write to complete Descendant. After all of that, plus a cross-country move from Texas to Utah that included two Uhaul trucks, a trailer, two adults, three of our four kids, two dogs, one cat, and a rabbit–somehow I managed to keep that promise to myself and my readers, and last year, Legacy was born. This year, I hope to finish the sequel to Water So Deep and complete that series as well. So far, that sequel has been harder to write than Legacy, and I didn’t believe that was possible! After I finish, though, I have some big plans for new and fresh things, and I can’t wait to get started on them.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a Jersey Girl — born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ (attended same grade school where Judy Blume went!) My mom was a teacher and my dad was a detective. I have lived and worked in NYC several times, graduated from Syracuse University (degree in Fine Arts) and now live in Apollo Beach, FL (near Tampa) with my husband and our son who attends college down here. I have a senior shih tzu who is almost 14 who I love to bits!!!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have been an avid reader since childhood — my mom taught reading and writing! I fell in love with the Nancy Drew series in grade school. I have always been creative — started drawing in my highchair (or so I was told!) when my mom taped paper to the tray and gave me crayons. I was always good at writing, but didn’t take it seriously until I gave up my advertising career to become an at-home mom. A turning point for me was attending a week long Highlights writers workshop in 2006 in Chautauqua, NY.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have focused on writing humor for grade school kids. (I guess I’ll never truly grow up! Some of my favorite children’s writers are Richard Peck (have met him), Jerry Spinelli (worked with him on a manuscript at the Highlights workshop!!), Kate DiCamillo (met her, too!) and Lisa Yee (haven’t met her yet, but we’re Facebook friends)

Tell us a little about your latest book?
SCHOOL RULES is book #1 of the Principal Kidd chapter book series for 6 – 11 year olds (and kids of all ages!) Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Southern Utah in a small(ish) town called St George. I currently live in Los Angeles.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was an avid reader from a very young age. The first book that ever blew my mine was A Wrinkle In Time. From there I devoured every classic, dystopian/utopian fiction, and fantasy novel available. I started writing in middle school, but I didn’t consider writing as a way of making a living until I went into PR/Marketing and then started self publishing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is fantasy and science fiction. I can’t say I have any favorite authors because I have read literally thousands of books. I couldn’t point to just one author, it has been a lifetime of literary obsession that has shaped my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Sisters in Sin is my most recent book about two sister missionaries who fall in love on their mission. I was raised a devout Mormon and I wanted to write about something I knew. The sisters are young and lonely, and misunderstood, and I think everyone had been there before.

Featured Interview With Daccari Buchelli

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Daccari Buchelli and I am a twenty three year old British born Author. I was raised in the South-East of England, in the city of Peterborough. To this day I remain here, with my young terrier puppy, Sam.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I first stumbled upon the world of Fantasy during my childhood. I had always loved reading, no matter the genre and was determined to read as many books as possible. Many books filled our family home, all promising to spirit me away to incredible new worlds. I soon found the Fantasy genre winning me over and now I cannot seem to escape.

I began to write at age eight when I realized that I didn’t understand the world around me. Creating new worlds helped me to gauge the different values of society, as well as giving me an insight into different types of personalities that make up our world.

I now spend my time exploring my own magical wonderlands while focusing on the darker side of human nature. When away from my trusty ball point pen and energetic terrier puppy, I enjoy art and music, as well as curling up with a good book and a cup of tea or coffee.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite genre to read is Fantasy. It has been ever since I began adolescence. My favourite authors to read are Terry Goodkind, author of The Sword of Truth Series, and James Patterson, who writes a mix of thrillers, YA novels, and more. Both of these authors have helped to inspire me with their wise words and unique styles. They have helped me to learn the value of life and all of the experiences that pass us by.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Phoenix (Book One of The Peradon Fantasy Series) is a YA Fantasy novel, which was initially inspired by a previous romantic relationship, turned sour. The two main characters are polar opposites, a naive Princess of the Flame Realm and a Frost Realm Emperor with many dark secrets. I wanted to capture the significant difference between the two types of personalities and to demonstrate how one can bring nothing but destruction.

Princess Violetta is a meek character who suffers a great tragedy during her childhood years. Not only is there a plot to see her assassinated, but when she turns fifteen she is expected to marry. Violetta is also somewhat of a rebel at times and resists her father’s attempts to lecture her on the subject of suitors, all the while wishing to live a life free of the demands of others.

Her counterpart, Emperor Ryore, is the eldest heir to the Frost Realm throne. As a child, he was infatuated with Violetta from the moment he saw her and becomes more obsessed as time goes on. When he hears that she has turned fifteen, he does all he can to impress her, including saving her life.

Featured Interview With Ben Legg

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Originally from the UK, I began my career as an officer in the British Army’s Royal Engineers. I led the military engineering organization that relieved the Siege of Sarajevo in 1995 and was also stationed in Germany, Canada, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and Poland. I’ve also held the role of chief operating officer of Google Europe, VP of sales for Coca-Cola India, and a consultant at McKinsey & Co. Currently I am CEO of Adparlor.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always loved to read. Unlike most other kids, I rapidly moved from novels to history books and biographies of great men (Churchill, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela etc.). By the age of 15 I was devouring The Economist and Sunday papers weekly.

Writing a book was never part of my life plan. At school I was a straight A student in anything numerical, but flirted with B grades in English. Then, as a young Army officer, I had to enter various essay competitions, on things like the future of warfare, and I started winning them. That gave me the confidence that I could write, and made writing more enjoyable. From then on I have been a fairly regular writer of articles and essays. I on;y decided to write a book when I couldn’t find a decent one on the future of marketing. I felt compelled to fill that gap by writing Marketing for CEOs – Death or Glory in the Digital Age.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read books that help me to understand better how people, societies and companies work. Recent favorites have included most of Malcolm Gladwell’s books, Steven Levitt’s Freakonomics series, A Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins, and Gregory Clark’s A Farewell to Alms.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
After being told by multiple CEO friends “Ben, I plan to fire my CMO – please help me find a better one” I wrote this book.

The book helps CEOs to understand what marketing should be doing to survive and thrive into the future. In an age in which every consumer has a smartphone in their hands at all times, and the amount of data available to target and optimize your marketing is overwhelming, marketing has to change dramatically. And when all new inventory sources have auction based pricing for every ad that you serve, if you don’t understand customer lifetime value, your company will be priced out of the market and die. Simple as that.

“Marketing for CEOs: Death or Glory in the Digital Age” will also be helpful to marketers of all levels, who want to take a step back and reflect on what marketing should actually be doing.

Featured Interview With R. Patrick Bermel

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a newly self-published author. My first book, ”Two Worlds, One Love: Greylin Wolfe – Book One” was published on Amazon a month ago. I was raised in Texas, where I still live and write. I have a cat named Tabatha that is an excellent writing buddy. My book is the first in a Fantasy Romance series geared towards Teens. This being said, I often choose my books from the Teen Fiction section and know that people of all ages will enjoy the adventure. Fans of Harry Potter and Mortal Instruments will be sure to find it right up their alley.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began reading at a very young age but didn’t truly fall in love with it until the first Harry Potter book. That was the series that really cemented by love for reading and writing. I began writing seriously in college but was always excited at any opportunity for creative writing in High School.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is Teen Fantasy. My all time favorite writers are J.K. Rowling, Ernest Cline, and Kevin Hearne. I feel that every author that I have ever read has in someway influenced my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
”Two Worlds, One Love: Greylin Wolfe – Book One” took me several years to write only because I was working full time and very busy. Once I became serious about finishing it, the pages flew by. The one thing I knew for sure when I sat down to write it was that I wanted it to be fun and enjoyable to read. Of course there can’t be a story without conflict but I wanted the reader to fall into another world and really want to be there for a while. The book follows the protagonist, Greylin Wolfe as he is torn from his average teenage life on Earth and thrown into another world in which magic exists. The new world is magical indeed but is also on the brink of war. In order to help save it, he goes to magic school where he meets a fire elf named Chance. Needless to say, she catches his eye and their dynamic is a big part of the book.
