Relationships turned sour are where many of my traumas stem from. Home life didn’t generate much love, so I looked in the incorrect places for it. I soon realized I made an incorrect turn, but the journey was still rough. I appreciate it more because of the victory.

What Readers Are Saying About Miss Henry

In Miss Henry, Melanie Jackson has created another memorable detective and a particularly odious villain. All Ms. Jackson’s strengths are on display in this first book of her new series–a smart, irreverent heroine, a cast of eccentric characters, and an interesting milieu for them all to collide in. Reading her books is like eating a box of bon bons–each one is tasty and you find yourself wanting more.
—Harry Squires

I have just finished the 5th book in the series and have found every book to be as enjoyable as the first. I look forward to the next books.
—Zalewski Valerie

“Lizards on the Brain…”??? Yep, that’s a quote directly from Miss Henry…my kind of woman…LOL Enjoy ‘cause it’s highly recommended…
—Glenda

There are currently 16 books in the Miss Henry series. Additional cozy mystery series by Melanie Jackson include Chloe Boston, Butterscotch Jones, Wendover House, Kenneth Mayhew and Jane Blackthorn.

Brian Price

Featured Interview With Brian Price

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Southern New Jersey. Smallish town. Boring childhood. Minus the constant fear I felt at home. I keep moving away from Jersey as an adult with the pandemic being the latest reason I’m back. I’m hoping a return to California is in my future, but that Sunshine Tax on the West Coast seems to be higher than inflation at this point.

I’ve been in PR and marketing for about a decade. I’ve worked with some incredible and smart people, but I felt trapped in the office. I always knew where I was going to be and a general idea of what I’d be doing. The mundaneness drove me mad. When the pandemic happened, it burned any faith I had left in the traditional 9 to 5 life.

That’s when I said, “f*ck it” and decided to chase my wildest dream… writing a book.
As for pets, I have a rescue pup from Alabama, who I named Bucky Barnes. He’s a brindle corgi-terrier mix and my reluctant, but noble companion. He also has a thing for blondes. In California, he’d pull his leash toward any blonde woman. It was the funniest thing. He also likes to chase trucks and skateboarders. I guess we all have our things.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
In elementary school, we had this reading program that encouraged children to read fifteen minutes a day, and if you hit a certain number of minutes before the end of the school year, you’d win a pizza and a trophy. I’d be finished with the reading requirements before spring.
If I wasn’t reading, I was writing. I started writing before I could even write sentences. I have books from my childhood with pictures and squiggly lines underneath them. I assume those were the words. I don’t know. I always wanted to be a storyteller. If I wasn’t reading, I was writing. I’d give my family stories and books for holidays and birthdays. Sometimes I’d just write to write. There are not many things I enjoy more than writing. But there definitely are some.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Charles Bukowski, Neil Strauss, John Fante, Chuck Palahniuk, Hunter S. Thompson, and Ernest Hemingway. Besides Neil Strauss, I didn’t read any of those writers listed until the pandemic. Reading those writers flipped a switch in my mind and really made me want to write Last Chance California. And enrolling in a Writing Masterclass with Neil Strauss. Those two things sent me down a path.

As far as books that influenced me, Ask the Dust, Ham on Rye, Invisible Monsters, Choke, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I’m a big fan of contemporary fiction or realism. I also like to dabble in history or self-help books.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My debut novel is called Last Chance California. It’s a dark humor and contemporary literary fiction novel. It showcases our world, on the verge of the COVID-19 pandemic, through the eyes of a sarcastic and stubborn millennial as he attempts to break his family’s cycle of abuse. That’s just a romantic way of saying a depressed and lost man goes full-blown alcoholic after moving to California to escape his violent childhood.

The story follows a disillusioned Wyatt Lewis, who moves to California after realizing he’s more like his abusive father than he realizes. There’s romance, sex, drugs, exotic locations, depression, and substance abuse rampant through the novel. Last Chance California highlights some of the glaring deficiencies in our society while also reminding readers of the complexity of families, the imperfections of humans, and the burdens we carry every day.

Featured Interview With Greg Kuznetsov

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the Moss Cow of Russia, but I was mostly raised in Canada. I’m hardly Russian-mostly Canadian, don’t feel attached to either very much but I do sync with the idea of the American dream. Many people adopt their cultures as a part of their identity, but I’ve always felt like something else. I think we’re all something else, like stars, faking our cultures and acting as if they actually define us. My name is such a lie. I know that’s not me, it’s a mask for the world. I don’t know what my actual name is, though. Not many of us do. Right now, I like in Toronto, in Little Portugal, with my wife.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’m not really fascinated with books. I’m fascinated with ideas in any form. When I was younger I enjoyed books in that form the most, but now I feel they are an outdated expression of ideas. The visual art and especially video is much more important and impactful. The key to transcending the giant ocean of the familiar old in literature these days is to go crazy with it, be entirely different, experiment a lot. I see a bright future in ebooks-I noticed recently some new features where you could add audio experiences while someone is reading your ebook. I see a lot of potential in that sort of stuff. I started writing when I could pick up a pen. I initially drew a lot of comics, then became familiar with books. I still think reading is a wonderful habit. Last year I read over 100 books as a challenge, and my imagination improved tremendously as a result.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like those strange obscure books that almost no soul has read or heard about the most. Those little gems. Like H.C. Barkley’s rat catching book, which is more about his life experiences than rat catching. And Tony Weeks-Pearson’s Dodo, written in a way I’ve never read before. I love Turkish and Mongolian realms, of course Rumi-he touches my soul. And Orhan Pamuk’s My Name is Red, the one where the trees and colours were characters. I’m most inspired by very soulful writers, whose words you can tell have a genuine passion in them. Ralph Waldo Emerson is my favourite author of all time. You can just feel in your core that he writes every word from his heart. Paulo Coelho is another one of my favourites. He has such a soul connected to the spiritual world. He has such an understanding of things that he frames so elegantly. I also love Jack London, the way he described nature at a time when nobody else really did, and the way he characterized dogs so many times. Not many people know this, but he actually wrote a whole lot of books besides ones about dogs and the gold rush. The Star Rover, for example, was actually about reincarnation, I believe, something of an early ancestor to Cloud Atlas.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is Jupiter’s Black Diamond and Other Stories, a short story collection. It’s really strange and abstract at many times, you’ve got talking animals and space jellyfish and magic stones. I was sort of inspired by this old Russian children’s show called Yeralash which basically revolved around random interesting things happening like a magician summoning bread out of thin air on a bench. Of course I was also inspired by metaphysical concepts like the soul, human’s connection to nature, and other worlds between worlds. This book is something that, in every conceivable way I could, is different from any kind of writing or story style you’ll see out there. My philosophy with writing and art is total uniqueness, self reliance. When I read something and I can feel, and I always feel this inner sense that the author is writing to appeal to the outside world rather than following their inner self, it feels very wrong. It’s very obvious, and it feels wrong. So with JBD, it’s something that in almost every sense you won’t read anywhere else in that realm of feeling.

Featured Interview With Akera Franklyn

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the beautiful garden parish of St. Ann on the island of Jamaica but left as a teenager for the parish of St. Catherine where I now live. I had pets growing up, specifically dogs but not able to house any now. I hope to get a dog not too long from now, or a mini aquarium with fish.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved reading since I was a child and remember visiting the library bus from about age 10 whenever it came to my primary school. Around that time, I would often write in journals and would make up stories some of which were a means of escaping.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am particularly fond of the late Dr. Myles Munroe and his focus on the Kingdom agenda and how we are expected to bring God’s Kingdom to earth.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Many of us have experienced hurt, rejection, depression, and even found ourselves seeking love in all the wrong places. You might have even gotten introduced to Jesus Christ at a young age as I did, but something was still missing. In the search for purpose and true fulfillment, I discovered so much more to Christianity than rituals. I found out that purpose and true fulfillment are found in an authentic, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. When you decide to embrace true intimacy with Him, your life will never be the same.

Maybe you feel shattered and broken now but, I promise you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Revelation 12:11 tells us: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and when you make yourself available to use your mess for a message, you’ll be able to inspire others.

Baptized & Broken: Finding Identity and True Love shares my testimony along with biblical principles to overcoming rejection, depression, and religion to walking in your true kingdom identity, authority, power, and love.

Featured Author Judy Bloomberg

Featured Interview With Judy Bloomberg

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have been an intrepid traveler for 50+ years, and have visited about 115 countries, on all seven continents. I have always had a passion for adventure…not the kind where you climb Mt. Everest to prove to yourself and the world that you have amazing endurance and ability to withstand cold, but the “Around the World in 80 Days” kind of adventure, the kind where you set off for countries whose names you can’t even pronounce, to explore other cultures and other peoples, to learn how we are different and (perhaps even more importantly) how we are the same.

Whenever possible, I immerse myself in the culture and daily life of the places I visit through home stays, volunteer work, and participation in the celebrations and life cycle events of the inhabitants.

I have always loved sharing my photos and stories with friends and other people who are unlikely to visit these far-flung and little-known corners of the world themselves. I consider myself a “closet anthropologist”, who yearns to learn about people who live life very differently from me. As a former teacher, I feel the need to help others learn about these people as well. The world is rapidly modernizing, and in 20-30 years, these ways of life may have vanished completely. The time of COVID, when the world was stuck at home and unable to travel, provided the perfect opportunity to distill tens of thousands of photos down to the 300 best ones, and compile them into a cohesive book which could be shared with a much wider audience.

When not traveling, I live in Massachusetts (USA) with my husband, Mark, and plan my next adventure.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have enjoyed books since I was a child, but Always a Traveler, Never a Tourist: In Search of People and Places on the Road Less Traveled is my first published work.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Peter Mayle
Frances Mayes
Ann Patchett
JoJo Moyes
Dan Brown

I enjoy reading books about travel, fiction that takes place in another part of the world, and historical fiction.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book, Always a Traveler, Never a Tourist: In Search of People and Places on the Road Less Traveled, is a collection of nearly 300 of the best (mostly full-page) color photos from 50+ years of travel to about 115 countries. It focuses on the most exotic destinations on all seven continents (and the people who inhabit them), along with personal insights and anecdotes about traveling off the beaten path. From colorful festivals like the Goroka Show in Papua New Guinea and Carnival in Rio to daily life in places like Lake Titicaca and rural Ethiopia, these photographs beautifully capture the amazing diversity of peoples who inhabit our world. The photographs themselves are a breathtaking riot of color, depicting tribal groups around the world and traditional ways of life that are rapidly vanishing. The accompanying text offers fascinating information about these little-known peoples and countries, as well as entertaining backstories about traveling off the beaten path. A perfect book for any armchair traveler.

Silhouette

About Silhouette:

In its lyrical prose and empathetic poetry, Nancy Viera is many people. She is the lover who has left her heart in another country. She is the mountain, where flowers grow, freeze, die, but find a way to bloom again. She is the smell of a grandmother’s cottage, the pain of a childhood memory, the brush of a curl that can’t fit into straight lines. She is the rough hands of a mother, the fire of romance lost in a dream, the silhouette of tiny jars that catch our feelings when “we sin, we love, we move on.”
Beautifully crafted, each poem is delivered with rawness and grace.
