That Night

About That Night:

Senior Kat Palmer observes several of her classmates acting suspiciously on the first day back to school. Her boyfriend was one of them.
One night, she follows him out to Lemmon’s Park. A fight breaks out and she hears a terrifying scream. Four of the five classmates flee the area. Kat goes looking for the fifth. All she finds is a shoe, an abandoned car, and a cell phone. What happened to the classmate who owned these things?

As Kat continues to search the woods, she is knocked unconscious. She wakes up in the hospital with no recollection of what had happened. As the days go by, she starts to remember bits and pieces of that night. She can’t rest until she knows what really happened to the missing classmate.

Kat drives back out to Lemmon’s Park, hoping to recall more of that night. But this time she finds a broken watch with an engraving on the back. How did her father’s watch end up at the scene? He’d told her that the watch had been stolen when someone broke into their home last week. Had he been there that night?

The more Kat investigates, the more secrets she uncovers, the more she finds out that even the ones closest to her aren’t who they pretend to be.

Dragons of Introvertia by James and Bit Barringer

Dragons of Introvertia by James and Bit Barringer

Introvertia is – get ready for this – a kingdom full of introverts. People there enjoy reading, spending time at home or with one or two friends, and eating good food; you know how it goes. Small talk is explicitly banned in the constitution and no one will mind if you spend the entire day in the Reading Square with a good book. I bet you’d love it there.

Fifteen-year-old Eza Skywing is training to join the Rangers, the kingdom’s legendary protectors – the ones who can talk to dragons! He’s just finished his Year of Silence, the final step before getting a dragon of his very own, only to be devastated when he learns that hundreds of dragons have gone missing and there are none for his class at the Dragon Academy! What could possibly have happened?

Fifty miles away, on the far side of the Very Large Forest, the brilliant Cammie Ravenwood has just celebrated her sixteenth birthday. She loves living in Exclaimovia, with all its loud parties and chaotic streets and constant interruptions – although she hates the way people look at her sideways when she wants some time alone, in silence. That stings, but what could she do…flee to Introvertia?

Everything changes for Cammie when she learns a horrible secret: her people have stolen Introvertia’s dragons and are planning to start a war. Her father, a famous general, will be thrown into danger again. There’s no way Cammie will let that happen, so she does the unthinkable. She sets off for Introvertia, desperate to find someone who will help her.

In the Very Large Forest she meets Eza, and the two of them immediately discover why their kingdoms have been bitter enemies for thousands of years. It’s up to them to find the stolen dragons and stop the war…if they don’t annoy each other to death in the process! Yet they find that there are forces behind the scenes more sinister than anything they ever suspected – and that both Exclaimovia and Introvertia may merely be pawns in an even bigger scheme…

Dragons of Introvertia is a young adult series like no other. It’s optimistic in tone, a deliberate push-back against all the bleak, dismal, and dystopian young-adult fantasy that seems to be everywhere these days. It also highlights the introvert experience, letting introverts of all ages know that they’re awesome because of who they are. (Our ideal reader is a teenage introvert who flips the pages and exclaims, “Wow! There’s a word for people like me!”) It also hits on big issues, like mental illness, losing a parent, war and its effects on normal people, and staying positive when everything looks impossible. There’s humor, adventure, magic, and dragons…what more could you want?

Bullyboy by Rachel Griffin

About Bullyboy by Rachel Griffin:

In this book, I speak on some of the harmful affects toxic relationships and generational cycles have on children. When they reach adulthood, those same examples and experiences lead to more traumas. The cycle will further continue. I’ve seen this within myself and in others around me. Though I’ve been able to heal, there are those who haven’t. Some of us are still caught in those cycles, whether it be purposely or otherwise.

Instead, we could have been striving for a better life. Not just for ourselves. We have our future generations to think about as well. Like in my previous work, I hope to inspire readers to heal, grow and be the change. Be the change they want, internally and externally. If not for you, then for those you love.

The Clash Inside Me

About The Clash Inside Me:

THE CLASH INSIDE ME opens with a young man perched on a ledge and contemplating an unusual predicament: did he or did he not commit murder? And if he did, which of his alter-personalities will ultimately be held responsible?

The young man, who remains nameless throughout the tale, recounts the story of his life and the diagnosis of his mental illness –dissociative identity disorder – with refreshing candor. Speaking directly to the reader, he describes his personal history in a manner that is both relatable and engaging. Despite the obvious disadvantages of coping with multiple personalities, he is not a victim of his circumstances. He is a survivor with expectations of a bright future, including a tender romance. There are moments of fear and anguish, but his is not a story of despair; rather it is a tale of ongoing courage to define oneself while coping with a serious mental illness.

His ability to manage the alter egos is put to the ultimate test when he witnesses a drug deal gone wrong and one of his personalities seeks immediate revenge. Observing his handling of the alters in the aftermath provides an utterly unique view of a baffling condition. And just when we believe that we have a true understanding of the situation, a devious reveal in the final chapter leaves the reader questioning the veracity of all that has come before. An open-ended conclusion allows the reader to complete the tale for themselves.

The inspiration for this book is to promote awareness and treatment of mental health, bullying, and emotional depression in young adults. Having watched a dear one struggle, John encourages young people to SPEAK OUT and SEEK HELP. The stigma around these illnesses is lifting, and help is readily available. Do not be silent any longer.

Journeys: the Archers of Saint Sebastian

About Journeys: the Archers of Saint Sebastian:

A barracks full of beautiful boys. A girl in disguise, living among them.
It’s the 14th century, and 15-year-old Marieke is as obsessed with the archers’ guild of Saint Sebastian as everyone else in Ardennes. Here twelve of the best and most beautiful young Journeyman archers compete every year for a coveted spot on the prince’s bodyguard. But when Marieke is forced to flee to the guild for refuge, there are only two things she really knows about the place. One is that a mysterious accident ended her own father’s chances as a Journey. The other? There are no women allowed inside Saint Sebastian’s.
Disguising herself as a boy to infiltrate the guild means embarking on a dangerous deception. But it may be Marieke’s only chance to find out the truth about her father’s past, and when the charming Journeyman Tristan takes her under his wing as his squire, she’s got to stay – at least long enough to help him find a way to beat his brutal arch-rival and win the competitions. Soon she’s set herself a virtually impossible task: to see Tristan become the next Guardsman, without ever letting him find out she’s a girl – a girl, who loves him.

Part Robin Hood and part Princess Bride, with a pinch of Mulan and a dash of Cyrano de Bergerac in the mix, The Archers of St. Sebastian I: Journeys is a humorous action and adventure saga inspired by late medieval/early Renaissance Belgium and packed with romance, wit, and longbow archery. Perfect for adults who love young adult stories and for older teens looking for an immersive, character-driven read, Journeys is an escape into the past that reads more like romantic historical fantasy than pure historical fiction.

Unrequited love? Ugly heroines who stay ugly? Friendship, coming of age, romance, adventure, and plenty of archery competitions? A unique setting inspired by the glorious city of Bruges, with a richly imagined world set within the walls of a male-only archers’ guild? Journeys: The Archers of Saint Sebastian has it all, so if you’re looking for a great escape, don your disguise and join Marieke as she enters the forbidden world of Saint Sebastian’s, and prepare to fall in love with the Journeys – that is, the twelve best and most beautiful archers in all of Ardennes, the Journeyman archers of St. Sebastian’s.
