The Purple Dress by Wendy Bird

The Purple Dress by Wendy Bird is a heartwarming, true story that teaches children the joy and impact of giving. Told through the real-life experience of an eight-year-old girl in the United States, this beautifully illustrated book shows how a simple act of generosity changed the life of a twelve-year-old girl living in a remote jungle in the Philippines. More than just a story, The Purple Dress offers an engaging, interactive experience—inviting children to reflect on giving, draw their own visions of generosity, and search for a hidden mouse on each page. With illustrations created by Filipino artists, the book also supports global artisans, making it a meaningful gift and teaching tool. Perfect for parents and grandparents who want to instill compassion, empathy, and global awareness in the hearts of young readers.

Author Bio:

Wendy is known as a humanitarian, certified high performance coach, and international keynote speaker whose most important role has been mom to five amazing kids and nana to eight grandchildren. In 2002, Wendy founded the Pearls With a Purpose Foundation, a grassroots organization that blends micro-enterprise training with humanitarian assistance. Through this nonprofit, she has inspired and motivated people all over the world with her hand-up vs. hand-out model of long-term self-reliance. She has aligned herself with other like-minded organizations to create dignity for those in disadvantaged situations, including human-trafficked survivors.

She has an adventurous spirit, and for years her motto has been, “There’s no growth in the comfort zone, and no comfort in the growth zone.” She is relentless in her pursuit of bucket list items, including learning to ski at age 40, competing in LoToJa, skydiving in Australia, and hiking Machu Picchu and Tiger’s Nest. She loves planking in unique locations all over the world, despite having undergone 61 surgeries and being half titanium!

She has designed and published a course and planner called Unstick the Stuck, which helps individuals create meaningful and fulfilling relationships. She has also written the long-awaited children’s book The Purple Dress, beautifully illustrated by artists in the Philippines.
