About The Herd:
16-year-old Susan is one of the Herd, human slaves to the immortal, blood-thirsty Akharu. She wants nothing more than to receive her brand and become a permanent member of the Herd. She knows she’s worthy. She’d devoted her life to the Akharu.
But so did her older brother, Trevor. And he was taken.
15-year-old Ryan, Susan’s brother, knows he only has a year until the Branding. He isn’t praying to the Akharu, though. When they took his older brother, Ryan knew he didn’t want a brand.
He wants revenge.
Susan’s worst fears come true as she’s deemed Unworthy. Taken from the Herd, she finds herself in the Akharu palace as a playmate to the sadistic Princess Sifa. Can she summon the strength and courage to escape from Sifa or will she suffer the fate of the playmates before her?
In his quest for vengeance, Ryan delves into the underworld of the rebels and discovers powers he never knew he had. What do these powers mean? Can he use them to save the Herd or is he becoming one of the Gods he hates?
This is the Kingdom of Larkspur, where the immortal Akharu rule from their marble palace high on the hill. Below them are the Blessed, the humans favored by the Akharu. They can be found in their huge mansions, living life as they please. The rest of the humans are confined to the Closure where they exist only to serve the Blessed and feed the Akharu.
They are The Herd…

Author Bio:
I was an international drama teacher for many years, teaching in Mumbai India and in Dubai, UAE. Living in these different countries sparked in me a passion for religion and culture, eventually inspiring this dystopian world of the Akharu. Also, many years of teaching theater to young adults taught me that nothing beats an exciting story. I love traveling, hanging out at the beach with my family, and playing with my dogs. I now live in San Jose, Costa Rica with my wife, two children, and two dogs.
