Sinking Sand by Hazel Mattice
In 1975 Mercy Hospital Valley City, North Dakota, two infants were born to fathers, the best of friends.
Nine years later, the children develop that same bond. Bold passionate Florence Solberg shares love for bees and her brothers with careful, purposeful Norman Miller. A tragic incident leaves Norman distant and Florence heartbroken. Ultimately, his bitterness divides them.
Years later, Florence returns home.
During honey harvest, their friendship is rekindled when his kids come to play with hers.
Norman feels like he’s coming home.
But what’s great for Norman has the opposite effect on Florence. Dodging shadows from the past, Florence no longer shares her feelings with him. Norman knows although the truth is devastating, silence destroys. He sets out to protect her from whatever demons driving her to independence.
When Florence recognizes a man from the past, Norman realizes the enemy stalking Florence hadn’t planned on her escaping him. He had gotten her and he planned to keep her until he didn’t want her anymore.
And if he can’t have her, no one can.
