Candida Pugh, retired copywriter and novelist, is a screwball when it comes to good dogs, good books, and good wine. Throughout her long life she has taken on challenging dogs without a thought as to whether she has the skillset to manage their challenges. Somehow, she and the dogs muddled through to a happier interim—interim, I say, only because a dog’s life is far too short. She lives in Oakland, California, with her husband, a German shepherd, and a Havanese—all mostly happy.
