About Lotharingia-Charlemagne’s Heir:
A countess ready to rule her father’s lands, a king defying the Church, a mysterious prophecy, and a forbidden love. The youths of Matilda of Tuscany and her overlord Henry IV of Germany are reimagined in a unique novel about female and male power, love, faith, and politics. Lotharingia is a sweeping and brightly-coloured tapestry of eleventh century Europe, filled with abbeys and castles, relics and prophecies, saintly hermits, scheming cardinals and princes, and some incredible women who dared the impossible: to rule in a man’s world.

Author Bio:
Lara Byrne is a debut historical fiction author whose work is starting to garner praise and stand out at awards.
Lotharingia – Charlemagne’s Heir is her first novel, and the first installment of the Comitissa series, inspired by the life of medieval countess Matilda of Tuscany.
The book is the result of two years of research, and two years of writing and re-drafting. The draft version made it to the shortlist of the 2020 Page Turner Awards, and soon after release it was awarded five stars by the Historical Fiction Press and made it to their Highly Recommended list.
Lara’s writing is nourished by the impressions and emotions of many summers spent exploring medieval villages, cathedrals and cities in Germany and Italy. Travel is her other great passion.
Currently based in London UK with her family and pets, Lara hopes to move to Italy at some point, to be closer to the source of her inspiration.
