Featured Interview With Julie sanford.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
At thirty-eight I’m a product of the very late 70s. My parents were bearly adults themselves when I was born, they where eighteen and nineteen. Now with children of my own I am all to aware of how daunting that must have been for them.
Born in the london borough of Barking and Dagenham, I’m the eldest of three girls. My parents, sisters and I are very close.
Educated to GCSE level I left school at sixteen.
I am twice married, My first husband was twenty years my senior and we have three children together.
My second husband was an old school friend. Once reunited we had three children together along side his own three children. So, now I find myself a stay at home mother to six plus three step children ranging from age sixteen to three. If that wasn’t enough dependents I also have a dog and three pet rats.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I discovered my local library aged nine, finding a life long love for books. Cutting my teeth on when Hitler stole pink rabbit, by Juduth Kerr.Reading to this day is not a routine or choice but an integral part of my wind down time. It’s my go to, so I can switch off from the world.
I have dabbled with writing since I was a child, often getting complimented on my stories. Yet unfortunately grammar and spelling does not come naturally. I did not consider writing seriously until I was thirty-seven. Intending to write a mummy blog I found my psychological thriller flowed in its place

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My all time favorite book is The time travellers wife. I read all genres and find I go through phases of reading certain types. Most recently going through a medical bio stage. One thing which is unusual for an avid reader, I never intentionally return to a book, even if I loved it.
A book that resonates with me is called Taming the Beast by Emily McGuire. It’s a very disturbing books, very taboo,to this day I am unable to decide if I enjoyed it or if it was just so disturbing I couldn’t help but remember it. With that at the back of my mind Sculpting Amanda my first novel was born.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest full length novel Love’s first fall is a dark contemporary romance. I was all to aware that my previous books were sailing very close to the Dark side. Sitting to write love’s first fall I intended to write something lighter hearted , alas it was not to be. A book of self discovery was born. Elizabeth is A psychologist who has acquired a new client. Christopher,a doctor at her hospital, handsome but exceptionally damaged. Whilst she attempts to unscramble his troubled life she is forced to face her own demons. Soon realising that it is time to realise, with chaos as her constant companion, now was the time to accept she was the cause.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised all over the globe because my father was a diplomat. Now I live in a conservation village on the tip of Africa! I had a great pet, a salt-and-pepper mini Schnauzer, who transitioned to the other side and sometimes visits me as a dragonfly…

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I like to tell readers that I first began writing love stories on this little whiteboard when I was a teen, and it’s true (because you could be covert about what you were writing, i.e. wipe it out!) But even before that, as a child I was always writing and acting out these scenarios. You know, my dolls weren’t just Barbies, they were English Roses in broderie anglaise who’d end up hell hot in India, fighting off flies and riding on elephants. You get the picture.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Everyone knows I’m a Marian Keyes devotee. I love chick lit – whatever that is – anyone else think it’s a bit of an insulting term? Basically, love stories that involve humor, passion and disaster. A bit like my life.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
One Night in Venice came out at the end of 2017. It’s a rollicking, steamy, heart-throbbing roller-coaster ride! Basically, this pretty normal, plain, uninspired art student (Kate Pollock) lands in Venice, of all places, the art capital of the world, absolutely oozing with history. She’s been let down in love and she’s depressed, making everything look drab. First thing she does is spot sex-on-legs in the ancient corridors, the illustrious artist Martinez Di Ser Piero. She’s smitten. Worse, it turns out he’s her practicals tutor. She knows no-one like that would ever be interested in her. But he is, and after their first kiss a suspenseful adventure begins, leading her to find her true artistic talent… and solve a crime!

I just loved writing this book. It was the second manuscript I ever wrote, but the third published. Originally it was set in Paris, over many days, but I tightened it up for the City Nights Series by Tirgearr. Now it’s a snappy 24 hours and introduces Ana Ortensia, who will be the Italian heroine in the sequel, One Night in Denpasar. Watch this space.

Featured Interview With K.R.M. Morgan

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
As long as I can remember I have had a fascination for action, adventure and travel. My earliest memories are of my father practising the, then little known, martial art of Taekwondo, at the RAF base in Changi, Singapore, back in the 1960s. Since my father was in active military service, my early years were spent at a series of bases in different locations around the world. This experience gave me a wanderlust which has been one of the dominating influences in my life.
After leaving school I took an entry level job in a local company and devoted my free time to studying the martial arts. I eventually ran a few clubs, in some of the more socially deprived areas, near my home. In addition to my interest in martial arts I was also consumed with a curiosity for knowledge and spent many years in evening classes at local colleges. Eventually, I was fortunate enough to be offered a scholarship by Edinburgh University, in Scotland, where I completed my education in Psychology and Computer Science. This qualification gave me the opportunity to work in a number of different countries around the world, often in very remote and poor locations helping to improve educational provision. Apart from my interest in educational development projects I also researched how to improve police and intelligence methods, working with law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the UK and abroad. In 2012, after nearly 30 years of such varied academic work, I was able to return back the UK, where I now live on the South Coast of England, with my wife Maddy.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Even as a very young child I was a voracious reader and would consume every book I could get my hands on. Often, I would be declared lost by teachers only to be discovered in the reference section of the library. Naturally, given my occupation, a lot of my reading has been science based but I have also always had a great joy of reading action adventure stories.
Most of my own writing has been for scientific journals and it has only been quite recently that I have had the opportunity to indulge my love of literature by exploring the delights of writing epic action adventure tales.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My special loves are the early “Lost World” tales by writers such as Conan Doyle, Rider-Haggard and Verne. I also admire the writing of Ian Fleming, although now rather dated, and modern writers such as Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly and Chris Ryan.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
When I returned back to the UK, in 2012, I was fortunate enough to have periods of time, between projects, where I could indulge my love for adventure stories by writing the kind of epic tale that I would have loved to read myself but could not find on the bookshelf.

Bridge of Souls was never intended for anyone else to read but I soon discovered that my wife, Maddy, enjoyed hearing each chapter as it was completed. We started a sort of ritual where, after each chapter was completed, Maddy would sit on the sofa in our living room and listen to the next instalment. This encouraged me to build “cliffhangers” at the end of each section, to keep the anticipation growing, and to focus more on the characters that Maddy loved. She enjoys stories with some supernatural component so there is a strong supernatural backstory, interspersed with some intended “friendly winks” to the reader, where the story pays homage to some of the action/adventure genres best loved themes (super villains, evil plots to destroy the world, secret lairs and humorous asides from the hero).

In writing Bridge of Souls, I wanted to create a more intelligent alternative to the modern action genre, where the hero acts within ethical principles and his mind is his primary weapon. I feel that too many of the modern action heroes are clichéd in being troubled former special forces operatives. So, I made Tavish Stewart extraordinary, not in his resources, training or supporting personnel, but in his character and his intellect.

Of course, a hero is defined by the forces that oppose him or her. I therefore had to give Tavish Stewart the most dangerous antagonist I could imagine… I will leave it to you to read Bridge of Souls and judge how well I did in that task!

Featured Interview With Doctor Thomas Karl Reiner

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Hungary 1931 in Budapest, Hungary. I fled to England and then was invited to the United States by President Eisenhower after the Soviet invasion and occupation of my home country. I graduated from the Technical University of Budapest with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1955 and went on to have a distinguished career both at home and abroad.
In 1959, I married Joyce and had two wonderful children, Paul and Rene.
Throughout my life I was a sought-after engineer. I worked at J.W. Fecker, working for NASA, The Assembly Tower for the Hubble Telescope and the Space Simulator.
In 1968 I became Chief Engineer for Fairchild Camera Space and Defence Vision and in 1974 he became preside of Renmark Pacific Corporation.
I patented a hydraulic jacking system that raised the Freemont Street Bride in Portland and built an air cargo handling and weighing system for the US Air Force and major airlines.
I got his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh.
In 1995, unfortunately, Joyce and I got a divorce. I got remarried in 2002 to Bonnie but she, unfortunately, passed away in 2013. I am now retired and live in Sherman Oaks, California.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’m not much of a bookworm but I love to learn. As a kid, I used to get engrossed in the encyclopedia which I received for my birthday. I’ve always been fascinated by how things work and would take apart anything that moved — bicycles, motors, radios, you name it!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As I said, I love anything that will teach me something, preferably non-fiction.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book as an account of my life earlhy life. I escaped unspeakable horrors, growing up during World War 2, avoiding the Nazi Death Camps, before being thrown into hardship under communism rule.
I killed a Hungarian Nazi at the age of 13 when he stopped my father and on the street. If I hadn’t killed him first, he would certainly have shot both of us dead.
I fled my native Hungary to come to America, where I focused on giving back to the country that gave him the freedom to follow his dreams. As an engineer, I filed many patents, working for the United States Defence and for NASA, just to name a few.
I’ve had many highs and many lows, but throughout his life, one thing stood out. I didn’t allow obstacles to deter me, no matter how big they seem.

Author Janna Ariane LorenzoFeatured Interview With Janna Ariane Lorenzo

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a 17 year old girl who lives in Cerritos, CA. I am American-Filipino and identify as a Pacific Islander depending on the situation. I have four dogs, three of them chihuahua mixes and one German Shepard. My dog is a pug/chihuahua and I strongly believe he has autism. I enjoy spending my free time adventuring or writing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Growing up, I never considered being a writer. But last year, I was going through a very difficult time with my family and my mind. At the time, I was also going through my first heartbreak and I didn’t know how to cope correctly and chose to do the wrong things. During this time, my best friend was taking a creative writing class and he read the beginning lines of one of the chapters in Just Play Along and told me that I have potential in becoming a writer. I wrote Just Play Along in a guy’s perspective so that I could understand the reasons why my first love did what he did and left me. Writing this book did help me become more aware of the world around me as well as answered all of my ridiculous questions running through my mind.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read crime, mystery, romance, suspense, horror, or thriller. Reading these genres helped me figure out what I want to become in the future: a criminal psychologist. Throughout high school, I had a passion for pharmacy and I wanted to become a pharmacist. But as time went on, I realized that I actually want to understand what’s going on through criminal’s minds.
My writings are inspired by John Green and Sarah Dessen. A few of my peers and teachers have told me that my writing style is a lot like their’s, as I include serious yet comedic situations.
I am currently going through the greatest literature phase. My favorite authors at the moment is Louisa May Alcott and Edgar Allen Poe

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Just Play Along follows 22 year old, Dylan Simons, as he finishes his undergrad education. But as Valentine’s Day comes along, he struggles to focus on his school work as flashbacks and memories of his first and last serious relationship starts to arise. His roommate, Alex, helps Dylan get back into the dating world and brings him to a Valentine’s Day party where Dylan runs into someone he see’s his future in.

Featured Interview With Apollo Blake

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m 21 years old and I was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, where I still live. I have five cats (we recently took in a stray) and a dog. I’ve owned dozens of dogs over the years, as well as two finches, a rabbit, and some turtles.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Very, very young. I was writing ‘books’ for my grandma when I was six–folding sheaths of paper in half and making picture books out of them. I didn’t become serious about writing as a career until I was twelve; I’d just started my Twilight phase, and I heard an interview with Stephanie Meyer where she said she’d never written anything before writing the Twilight Saga. It suddenly clicked for me that normal people could become authors, and tell stories for a living. I knew what I wanted to do right then and there.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Paranormal romance, ever since my aforementioned Twilight phase! There’s definitely something alluring to me about young people just starting to discover who they are who find themselves drawn into a magical world after falling for an otherworldly being. I think I’ve always been drawn to the darkness and the intrigue of it, you get the thrill of first love alongside self-discovery, which are both amplified with magic and monsters!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest release is a novella called Forsake This Violent World. I’d describe it as ‘Spirited Away’ meets ‘Kill Bill’ in a dark fantasy adventure featuring living mansions, mirror portals, shape-shifting gods, and blood magik. It’s a very strange little story and I was very happy with the end product.

Featured Author Mary T. Wagner

Featured Interview With Mary T. Wagner

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Chicago, but have lived in Wisconsin for all the rest of my life except for one year. I now live in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where I’ve worked as a part-time state prosecutor since 2000. I absolutely love it here because I’m close to the Lake Michigan shore. Before that I had combined my first career of journalism with being a soccer mom to four kids. Come to think of it, I was still able to keep the “soccer mom” thing going until they were all out of the house! It’s been quite the journey, and I’ve written a lot about it in my “best of” essay collection WHEN THE SHOE FITS. I used to have two horses when I still lived in the country, but they have both passed to that great clover meadow in the sky. I currently have a border collie mix named Lucky who keeps me eternally on my toes, and two cats, Smokey and Mookah. Mookah’s currently sitting in my lap, “helping” me do this interview!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always been a reader. I joke that when I was younger I read my way through childhood in Chicago, wearing grooves in the pavement between my house and the local library. I brought home every book on horses for years, and then graduated to Regency Romances and Romantic Suspense by authors like Victoria Holt and Phyllis Whitney. But I was never a kid who “knew” that they wanted to be a writer. I sort of fell into it in college, when I decided to give journalism a try. I was hooked literally from the first basic reporting class. Reporting was basically a free pass to ask anyone about anything in a given situation, and I really valued that! After I got married and started a family, we were living in the country and I started to write freelance magazine and newspaper features about public television shows from my house. Then I had a REALLY bad accident in 1995–I broke my back in a fall from a horse–and when I healed up, I changed directions and went to law school. I thought that my creative writing days were behind me, but a few years after I started working as a prosecutor, friends pushed me to start blogging and so my first website, “Running with Stilettos,” got started. And for the first time in my writing life I was completely off the leash and writing from the heart. It was great!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have always said that if I had to be marooned on a desert island with one book, it would be Daphne du Maurier’s “Rebecca.” I’m always drawn to suspense, to a puzzle that needs solving. When it comes to writing about “real life,” I’ve always admired Anna Quindlen. But as for really scratching that “whodunnit” and “how come” itch, my favorite writers these days are William Kent Krueger with his “Cork O’Connor” series about a small town sometime-sheriff in “up north” Minnesota. Not only is the plotting great, his understanding of the intersections between nature and Native Americans and the white communities sprinkled through the woods and the reservations is mesmerizing. I also really like Bernard Cornwell’s set of sailing thrillers from a few decades back, even though he’s mostly known for historical fiction.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest project is a series of children’s chapter books that revolve around FINNIGAN THE CIRCUS CAT. Finnigan is a foundling kitten who gets rescued by eight-year-old Lucy Farnsworth and brought home to her family’s small town circus museum. He has to stay “under the radar” in the museum which is really an old barn, because Lucy’s father is allergic to cats. But a pair of “circus mice” cousins named Max and Leroy take him under their wing, and as time goes by, they become a circus family of their own despite their natural differences. There’s adventure, and slapstick, and narrow escapes, and discoveries galore in these stories.

The first book, which was published in 2016, won some nice literary awards, and the second book, FINNIGAN AND THE LOST CIRCUS WAGON, was just named a finalist in England’s Wishing Shelf Book Awards, where the children’s books are judged by actual kids and their teachers! The first book won a Bronze Award in the 2016 contest, so I’m on pins and needles to see how the second book does.

I got the idea for this series because two things intersected–my son and his wife adopted the REAL Finnigan as a very tiny kitten from an animal shelter, and one of my daughters is a contemporary circus aerialist, so the subject of “circus” is all around me! And I ended up drawing the pictures inside the books that begin every chapter, even though it wasn’t in my original plan. But a friend dared me to do it, and after a while I remembered that when I was a kid in my “horse obsession” phase I drew horses all the time. So I went to kids’ section of the library, took out a bunch of books about how to draw cats and other animals, and set to work. It was quite a challenge. In the second book, which involves a decrepit circus wagon with a mysterious past, I actually drew some of the pictures in the book from real circus wagons on display at the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

I’m now working on the third volume of the series, FINNIGAN THE LIONHEARTED. In that one, Finnigan, Max and Leroy will get to see an actual tent circus perform when it comes to town. And after making friends behind the scenes with the big cats, Finnigan will have to channel his “inner lion” to be very brave in an unexpected way.

I currently have five books on the market. They are mostly geared toward younger readers; four are children’s books and the other is a novel.

My childrens’s books are available at Blurb.com and each book addresses issues children face in everyday life, such as jealousy and bullying. One book explains the true meaning of Christmas and another the true meaning of Easter.

My novel is called “Little Men, Big Treasures” and it is available on Amazon. The plot summary for it is this:

“O’balin, son of Blorn is an eager young dwarf and a native to the mysterious Mountain Realm. Having been a treasure hunter for most of his life, O’balin is overjoyed when he hears that the king of the Mountain Realm is offering a vast reward to the one who finds The Lost Treasure of Undur, a long-lost treasure that has been missing for generations. Featured Interview With Raana Zia

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I had been in corporate finance for 20+ years successfully climbing the corporate ladder. In 2012, while I achieved my goal of becoming a CFO of a billion-dollar company, I felt a strong internal pull in my heart telling me I needed to be doing something else in my life. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing, but I was determined to find out. I began searching for my purpose, a way to evolve my career, and greatly enhance my own life. I spent the next five years reading self-help books, going to seminars, talking to personal coaches, etc., gaining inspiration and building a belief I could do something different. The more I searched, the more curious I became on how the world worked and how I was able to manifest the good things in my life (career, family, home, vacations, etc). I was discovering pieces of wisdom that were life changing and profound from many different sources, but there wasn’t one book that brought it all together in a way that was direct and easy to understand. I was compelled to write this book in order to retain and share was I believe to be the most efficient and effective way to create what you truly desire in your heart.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
It took quite a bit of time for me to believe I could write a book. However, the moment I finally believed in myself, was the moment the words started to flow out of me. The chapter titles and page count came into my head immediately. I then began writing the content, and I did not stop until the book was completed. It took me only two months to write this book.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Wayne Dyer is one of my favorite authors.

I love spiritual self-help books or books that awaken my understanding of my true potential. Some books that have inspired me are:

Conversations with God – Neale Donald Walsch
The Impersonal Life – Joseph Benner
You can find more books that inspired me at www.yourhiddenlight.com/resources

Featured Interview With Trevor Carss

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hi, I’m Trevor Carss (Trev for short) and I love to write and illustrate fun, modern children’s books!

My books will hopefully inspire all ages to stand out and be different.

I was raised and currently live in a suburb of Vancouver, Canada.

I used to own a hamster. I’m still searching for my next pet, but for now my girlfriend is more than enough 🙂

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle inspired me – I first picked up that book before Preschool.

I started writing early, while in my sixth year of Elementary School.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I really enjoy any of today’s business books, as well as Stephen King and J.K. Rowling. Dr. Seuss has certainly inspired my creative approach to children’s writing and illustrations.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Two Giraffes is a modern children’s love story inspired by my girlfriend and our battles with overcoming fear.

The story follows two giraffes, Travis and Rachel, as they form a friendship, fall in love, and battle an interesting obstacle: Rachel’s parents!

It only took me two days, locked in my apartment, to write and illustrate this book. I was so passionate about the story that I couldn’t stop writing and drawing out every page.

It brings me joy every time I think about Two Giraffes as it relates to elements of what we all go through on a daily basis: fear, bravery and love.

I started writing when I was 21 years old, then I stopped. A few years later at the age of 25 years old, I completed my first two screenplays. Since then I have completed 3 non-fiction books and am currently working on two fiction books.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre would have to be non-fiction. I jumped ahead on the last question, but I have always loved stories that I knew were real and I believed factual. I read a lot of self-help books, biographies, books on the law of attraction, and so on. I love reading books that can potentially help me improve my life and I can learn something.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest books are, “Stronger Core” and “Stop Babying Bullies”. They were both published the same week. Both books are very dear to my heart and are non-fiction. “Stronger Core” is my biography. The book details my trials and tribulations throughout my life and how I overcame them. “Stop Babying Bullies” is a book exactly about what you might think it is about. It touches on experiences that both myself, children, and other victims of bullying have experienced. The book also talks about how we need to change the approach to bullying.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Philandis Stovall. Age 30. I have a passion and background in music, modeling, forensic science etc. I was born and raised in Greenville, MS. I currently reside in Houston, TX. And I have no pets.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized my fascination with books around the age of 4 or 5. I started writing around the age of 5.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have many authors I admire and like to read but to name two I will say Stephen King & E.E. Cummings
I like many genres.
My fave genre would probably be Poetry.
There’s no one person who inspires me
I’m inspired by whoever I’m reading at the time of which inspiration hits.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Well, my lastest book took me two weeks to write in its entirety. I was completely focused and I gave myself a deadline to get the job done. I knew the story already the before, the during and the after. I lived it! So all I had to do was write it. Even Though the Storm, I kept my faith strong and found hope with a situation that at times felt hopeless.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, but now I’ve moved up to Grand Prairie, Texas. Without argument, I have the best schnauzer in the world. Sorry, dog lovers.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’d always enjoyed books, but it wasn’t until I discovered “Inkheart” by Cornelia Funke that I became enraptured by them. I think I was eight at the time, maybe older–it’s hard to say.
I started writing “seriously”–as serious as a kid can be–at the age of fourteen. I was intent, back then, to write and publish a novel before I was sixteen. I was, in every sense, trying to beat Christopher Paolini, who had published Eragon when he was a teenager. I failed in this endeavor, but I’m thankful for the motivation.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My go-to man for reading is Stephen King. Horror, fantasy, science fiction–he does it all, folks. Robin Hobb, George R. R. Martin, and Neal Shusterman have also gained my absolute respect. My favorite genres include fantasy and science fiction, though I never limit myself to those two categories alone.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Storytellers” is about a group of gods and goddesses who have been infertile throughout their eternal reign. Now, mysteriously able to conceive, they realize that the birth of their children has robbed them of their power and immortality. To get it back, the Storytellers must kill that which they have waited so long to have–and to protect his daughter, Pokeetle and his wife, Madeline, must oppose them all.
It is a tale of morality, family, and the consequences of inaction.

Featured Interview With David Michael Williams

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
While I’ve lived the bulk of my life in Wisconsin, I travel as often as I can. I lived in Zhangjiagang, China for a year. Someday I’d like to live in Louisiana or the Pacific Northwest or Colorado or…

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My older sister was a much more avid reader than I ever was. In fact, I hated going to the library because it meant she would come home with an armload of books and sequester herself away in her room for the next few days. It wasn’t until I found the fantasy genre that I began consuming stories like a fiend.

I’ve always been a storyteller, I think. Writing was just one of several tools I used to create characters. Over time, however, I realized I could say more with writing than, say, sketching or acting. It was a convenience that evolved into a compulsion.

I wrote stories as far back as age 12 and started my first (complete) novel as a freshman in college. That book eventually became the first installment of The Renegade Chronicles. I’ve pretty much been working on novels consistently since 1997.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
The authors of the fantasy novels I read while a teenager motivated me to take a stab at the written word as well as try my hand at world building. They include Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman — not only because of their contributions to the DragonLance saga, but also for the Death Gate Cycle — and R.A. Salvatore, primarily for his DemonWars series. Tad Williams, Neil Gaiman, George R.R. Martin, and J.R.R. Tolkien have also impacted me as a reader and writer.

Beyond fantasy, I try to draw from literature, such as the works of William Faulkner.

For the past couple of years, I’ve enjoyed a renewed interest in graphic novels, from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman to older Marvel compilations, such as Squadron Supreme and Fantastic Four. Right now, I’m thoroughly entranced by Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staple’s Saga.

Truth be told, stories of all types — from books and comics to television and movies and to video games and miscellany — inspire me.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, If Souls Can Sleep, introduces a hidden world where gifted individuals possess the power to invade the dreams of others. Two rival factions have transformed the dreamscape into a war zone where all reality is relative and even the dead can’t rest in peace.

The story centers on Vincent Cruz, a man who lost his daughter and never recovered from the tragedy. He’s stuck, haunted by a dream that replays the dreadful memory over and over. Then the dream suddenly stops, and he’s faced with a new nightmare that starts to bleed into the real world. There’s also Milton, a partial amnesiac who is on the run and doing his best to stave off sleep forever.

I started writing If Souls Can Sleep on Dec. 31, 2006, and it took two and a half years to compose a complete first draft. I then edited it, jumped into writing the sequel, and worked on a handful of other projects. By the time the book hit shelves, it was more than 11 years in the making.

Fortunately for fans, they won’t have to wait that long to get their hands on the sequel, If Sin Dwells Deep, which will be published in fall 2018.

Featured Interview With Florence Osmund

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in a small town in northern Illinois, then moved to downtown Chicago where I lived for close to 30 years. I recently moved back to the far north suburbs, with my 20-year-old feline friend Miska, where I live on a tranquil lake–the perfect setting to write more books.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I knew from an early age that I wanted to write novels in my retirement. With that in mind, for years I jotted down my thoughts on possible story lines and stashed each one in a cardboard box. When it came time to start writing (at the tender age of 60) I sorted through these hundreds of scraps of paper and several stories emerged. I wrote my first four books based on these earlier thoughts.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love literary fiction, where the story is character driven (as opposed to plot driven) and challenges my own value system and beliefs. Margaret Atwood could be my favorite.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My current project “Nineteen Hundred Days” will be released in March and is told by a young man looking back to when he was twelve and his sister was six and they were left to fend for themselves when their parents didn’t come home after work one day. It usually takes me five months to write the first draft of a book. I wrote this one in five weeks. It also required the least amount of editing of any of my books. I can’t explain it.

Featured Interview With R.H. Johnson

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I write what I know, and I know each of the major characters in all of my novels. They all possess a variety of skills, for better or for worse, and they have in common a powerful desire to beat the odds. I was born and raised on Staten Island, NY — New York City’s forgotten fifth borough — and began meeting the people whose stories would later find their way into my books. My background includes military, consulting, and corporate work, all of it useful in ferreting out the real stories behind the headlines. I now live in Princeton Junction, NJ, but travel extensively in support of my writing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began writing seriously while still in elementary school. A book about a blue dragon caught my attention, and I have enjoyed living in fantasy worlds ever since. I earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in English, focusing on modern British literature. My first love, though, was the Arthurian legend, and I’ve read as much as possible in that genre, beginning with Old English versions.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite author is Tracy Chevalier, who invests a great deal of effort and research into all of her fiction. When not reading one of her books, I’m most likely reading a thriller. I enjoy everything written by Joel Rosenberg and greatly miss Vince Flynn, whose Mitch Rapp thrillers are first rate.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Sailing the Gates of Hell” examines a nasty real-world problem: human trafficking. The novel begins with a young woman being kidnapped while on a luxury cruise along the coast of Alaska, and before you know it she’s on her way to Thailand, where she’ll be forced into the sex trade. A great deal of action takes place in the wilds of Alaska, chiefly Admiralty Island, and the book captures the sights and sounds I experienced while researching the book on location. If you visit Alaska, do not play with the brown bears.
