Featured Interview With Lisamarie Chorowiec

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I lived in Rego Park, Queens until I was about 11, then we moved to Jersey and I’ve been a Jersey Girl ever since. I grew up always having dogs, so we have an English Bulldog named Stella who absolutely rules the house. She’s a big mush and my daughters best friend.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I think that some of my fondest memories are going to the public library in Queens with my Grandfather, he only read non-fiction so I would usually read my own stack and then read the vin ones he finished after. I remember my Nana setup a typewriter for me in her kitchen and I would sit there for hours typing little stories and poems and then read them to my family. I just loved the way a story can take you somewhere else and show you something that otherwise you wouldn’t see or even think about.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My absolute favorite author is Charles Bukowski I love the authenticity of his writing, it’s so raw and visceral. My absolute favorite book is a book called “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints” by Dito Montiel, it’s set in my old neighborhood but it is so soulful I’ve given people my copy so many times I’m constantly buying it again. If I could even come close to these two writers in my writing as far as making the reader feel and relate I would be extremely happy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I’m a woman’s woman, I’m extremely loyal to my friends and family. The people that have taught me and given me so much in this life have been them, and they all have stories like everyone does. It started with the thought of why am I listening to someone who is famous or I’m supposed to be listening to in order to relate to a moment in life? When in reality we as women have so many tales to tell. So it just started there with a regular person telling a piece of themselves or explaining how they became who they are. It’s all fiction and I tried to make each character very different from one another. Once I started ideas would come to me from all over, literally all over. I would see a woman just layering her face with makeup and think why and create a whole backstory for her, or a mom with a beautiful daughter but with this weird look in her eye of almost jealousy and it just went on from there. We’re all walking around filled with these crazy idiosyncrasies and habits and memories so my hope is that the reader can relate to these women, because they are all of us.

Featured Author Jay DeMaarten

Featured Interview With Jay DeMaarten

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I live in Toronto and spent some time in Japan and Trinidad. I consider myself to be a bit of an introvert so social distancing and staying at home actually suits me fine, although I miss being in the midst of hustle and bustle on occasions. I don’t have any pets at the moment although I like the idea of having one.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was always fascinated with books, but it is only within the last few years I have dedicated myself to writing fiction. CARNIA is my first published work. I’ve actually been working on a much longer science fiction novel for some years now, but CARNIA is the precursor. I’m especially into dystopian fiction, and I would really like to see what sort of novels and stories come out of this current crisis. I’d much rather write or read about a world devastated by a virus than be actually living in one (fingers crossed).

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I honestly don’t have a favorite set per se, but I like Octavia Butler’s works, especially the ones about a post apocalyptic society affected by disease. I really also enjoyed 1984 George Orwell.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The novelette, CARNIA, is actually my first published work. I’ had been working on it since January this year, and within a month I finished the manuscript. It took another month or so to get it edited and formatted. At the moment it’s not up on any of the major retail sites, but it’s available for download on BookFunnel.

It’s basically about this youth who wants to find a mate in a world where mating and pairing is tightly controlled. So it’s interesting to see how he navigates this world to achieve his goal. He is a sort of underdog because nobody sees much in him, including girls. But fights to prove them wrong.

Featured Author Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Busby

Featured Interview With Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Busby

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Rev. Dr. Douglas E. Busby received his M.D. (cum laude) and M.Sc. (in biophysics) from the Western University in Canada, and became a board-certified specialist in Aerospace Medicine in the United States. Under a NASA contract at the Lovelace Foundation, he wrote a forward-looking, investigative report which was subsequently published as a book, “Space Clinical Medicine: A Prospective Look at Medical Problems from Hazards of Space Operations.” Later, he fulfilled his second career choice, Christian ministry, receiving his M.Div. from the Chicago Theological Seminary, and his D.Min. and Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Foundation. He has had a life-long interest in spiritual healing, which for the past 17 years has included a personal study of the healing ministry of the Brazilian Spiritist healer, John of God. Currently, he preaches, lectures, and writes on and provides support for spiritual healing. He and his wife live in Valparaiso, Indiana, where his wife is an energy medicine practitioner.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I became fascinated with books about the age of 10. I started “formal” writing in 1964, when I began to write on Space Clinical Medicine

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Morton Kelsey, Francis MacNutt, Ron Roth, Larry Dossey, the writers of the Gospels, Marcus Borg, John Dominic Crossan and Bart Ehrman. My favorite genres fall under nonfiction>religion>spirituality>spiritual healing. The inspiration for my writings comes from my wife, Christina R. Dougherty.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I have written this book to promote a wider awareness of our being able to help God heal us, by opening minds to the reality of spiritual healing and by providing guidance for spiritual healing as practiced by Jesus Christ. First, I provide a history of spiritual healing from pre-biblical times to the present. Then, I consider Jesus’ way of spiritual healing and how it can be applied in a spiritual healing session. Finally, I offer information on how to design and conduct a spiritual healing session, including preparation, framework, and resources.

Featured Author Lindsay Coldrick

Lindsay ColdrickFeatured Interview With Lindsay Coldrick

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hey, I’m Lindsay Banks, my book is under my old married name. I have 2 children and live just outside of York in a beautiful village. I love writing and sharing my own spiritual journey with others. As a Geordie my accent can sometimes be quite strong. I don’t have any pets currently but my children and my work keep me busy!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading from an early age and was often absorbed in books. One of the first books I remember reading was the Diary of Anne Frank when I was 12 and I would often pinch books from my Grandmas bookcase and would love getting lost in books. I have always kept a diary from being a little girl and only started writing my book in April 2018. By Sep 2018 it was finished.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading spiritual books as well as business books. One of my favourite is Think Rich, Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. His understanding of the law of attraction is amazing! I often have 6 or 7 books on the go at once and like dipping in and out of them. Paolo Coelho is another favourite as is Alberto Villoldo. You can learn so much in theory from others who have gone through their own spiritual journey but it is only when we go through stuff ourselves can we apply the theory.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
A Gentle Hug for the Soul is a quick and simple read. My dad has no idea about the spiritual world but could understand the concepts I was talking about. I write as I speak, in plain english, unless I am channelling and get given bigger words lol! It contains some basic concepts to help us live stress free. Tools such as mindfulness, gratitude and your spiritual army all feature. It contains my own story as well as practical tips for you. It was written following the loss of my best friend to cancer then a difficult separation period. I later realised I had gone through my own Dark Night of the Soul.

Featured Author Mike Lord

Featured Interview With Mike Lord

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born just before all hell broke loose for World War 2. After the war my father stayed in the RAF and was posted with us to Singapore, and then later boarding school in the UK.
I live now in a provincial city in Vietnam.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My job included writing reports, and I wrote my first book when living in Sri Lanka. My house was on the edge of a coconut plantation.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I often had to spend long hours on flights so I used to buy books that would last me up to twelve hours. I found George MacDonald Fraser and Chris Ryan in airport bookshops. Chris Ryan was just exciting, but George MacDonald Fraser rang a bell as his books were often set in remote parts of the world where I had lived and worked.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I’m in a bit of a lull at the moment, putting together three books in a Box Set, and also revising and republishing some books as result. My pen name is Adam Mann.

Featured Author Nikolay Yordanov

Featured Interview With Nikolay Yordanov

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am from Bulgaria – that’s in Southeast Europe 🙂 I live in the capital, making local adaptations of TV shows such as “The Voice”, “Fear Factor”, “Hollywood Game Night”, “Got Talent” to name a few. I am also lecturer in the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read books from very, very young age. I never meant to be a writer, it just happened. I wrote a biography of a very interesting woman, sentenced to death in Libya in the 00’s. It is called “Notes from Hell”. I like the process and I said – ok, that’s interesting and easy, so let’s write another. Nine years and 600 pages later I don’t think it’s easy but I still think it’s fun.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am interested in most of the genres, because it’s about the quality of the text, not of the genre. I adore the strange narrative of Márquez or Allende, I love the worlds of Tolkien or Martin, I like the Stephen King’s horror and so on. But if I don’t like a book by it’s first 80-100 pages I am choosing another one.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
It is called “Don’t Tell Mama”. It’s the most unusual LGBT-themed book, I promise you. It’s like adventure-magical realism-love story. Ten people in eight countries have common secret – their sexuality, and find themselves inextricably linked. I hope it will inspire every reader, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Featured Author Shilah Ferr

Featured Interview With Shilah Ferr

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in northern New Jersey with my brother and sister. We share treasured memories of high school, the Jersey shore and skiing with cousins, all of which became a part of “April’s Heart”! I went to college in Washington DC and became a teacher. I now live in Virginia Beach, Virginia with my husband of thirty years. Our two boys are in there twenties making their own way in the world.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always wondered if I had a book in me, I think a lot of people wonder that, but I could never let it go. In 1977 I kept a diary for the entire year, then scrap books for each year thereafter, through most of college. I thought maybe there was a great story in there somewhere. I started writing during the winter of 2019 once I realized my epic romance would be a compilation of several relationships I had back in the day.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I just love romance, especially Erotic Romance, so of course Fifty Shades of Grey. by E.L. James is one of my favorites. I also love the Twilight series.
I often get inspiration from music I listen to while taking my daily power walks. I’ll hear a phrase or an idea that I think is romantic, sexy or powerful and write it down hoping to incorporate it into the story somehow.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
April’s Heart by Shilah Ferr

Featured Author Adam Mann

Featured Interview With Adam Mann

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m ancient. I was born before World War 2, and after the war my parents moved to Singapore. I spent five years at boarding school in the UK. After University I started working in Africa, but after 25 years moved to Asia unwittingly choosing some “hot spots” like the Swat valley in the North West Frontier Province in Pakistan. Over 20 years ago I moved to Vietnam working with smallholder farmers, and strengthening the extension services. I retired several ago and started writing romance books.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My job entailed writing reports, but my first novel was historical romance and written in my bungalow on the edge of a coconut plantation in Sri Lanka. I have had travel frequently, long distances by plane, and started buying novels in airport bookshops. My fascination with romance stories started then.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I prefer reading adventure stories, often based in Africa or Asia, and in territories that I had probably worked in myself.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I’ve written 27 romance novels, and recently have been putting together three in a Box Set, which also involved editing and amending some chapters, and republishing the original book. I tried to find a common theme for each box set, like high heels, or Asian ladies.

Featured Author Julia K. Poulet

Julia K. PouletFeatured Interview With Julia K. Poulet

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in the German countryside and I had the best childhood ever with lots of playing outside and running through the fields. I moved out from home to study and have lived in several different places and countries since including a year in Edinburgh which was amazing. I live in Leipzig now and share a flat with my partner, who has up to now vetoed my wish to own a cat.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was always a bookworm and read a lot. I started writing stories when I was eight and I wrote my first book (a high fantasy YA novel) when I was 13, giving it to a few friends of mine in daily installments.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am a massive fan of V.E. Schwab and Maggie Stiefvater. But I also like Terry Pratchett and the world he created and I enjoy reading the classics more than any sane person should. Inspiration comes from so many different people that I can hardly put my finger on it. My favourite genre to read would probably be fantasy, though I prefer the fantastic angle on our world to actual high fantasy with a whole different world as the setting.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Prodigy” is my debut novel. It’s near future Sci-Fi. My friend Josh sent me an e-mail telling me about a violin theft in Berlin. Somehow this mixed with the current climate debate and ended up becoming this story. There’s a lot of music in it, because music is extremely important to me (I play seven instruments myself). It’s also not truly dystopian in my eyes. Society has changed a lot and puts an unhealthy emphasis on productivity – something that already happens on a much smaller scale today – and doesn’t allow for much personal growth and freedom, but the scientific progress is good. Without it, people would never have survived the climate catastrophe. In this setting, we meet Robyn, who is a street kid and lives the life of the Pointless – those people who did not fit in with the system. We also meet Akira, who is a world class violinist and a musical prodigy. They are almost complete opposites in character and their circumstances are also vastly different. But the reader soon learns that both of them are stuck. “Prodigy” is a coming of age story, a story about breaking free and finding your own way.

I started writing “Prodigy” in April 2019 and I had the finished book in my hands at the beginning of 2020. In between lay so many revisions and so many changes. Josh helped a lot, as did a few other friends – one of whom provided me with feedback during an hour-long train ride and I took notes with people around me staring at me weirdly as I said things like “Okay, more info about zip-cabs, got it. Explain more about the village… will do…”

Featured Author Mandi Martin

Featured Interview With Mandi Martin

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a UK author. Since my childhood I have had a multitude of health issues and I have used writing as an outlet. I love to lose myself in creating worlds and hopefully giving people something to enjoy and to think about.
I live of the Isle of Wight with my mother, two cats and a gorilla AKA my brother.
There isn’t much to say about me, I’m just me. Slightly bonkers, sometimes a bit over opinionated, possibly due to Aspergers, and socially awkward!
I love animals and caring for them and I adore sitting watching the waves. I also like graveyards, rather nice to be surrounded by history!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved books at a very young age. My mom always read to me and so did my grandparents. They read classics to me and children’s versions of Shakespeare and other great writers so my fascination with the old style written word began then.
I also used to love myths and legends, the old tales of gothic spectres and grim fairies. I still do!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Hard to pick! I love so many styles and authors. I have to say my favourites are all long dead, I find modern fiction somewhat generic and not as captivating.
However I do like The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, probably due to the classical style.

Honestly? No one inspires me as such, I just love to write.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I have an interest in mental health due to issues of my own and I found it intriguing to read and research how older generations treated it.
From macabre, horrific and heinous to those who truly wished to help. This sowed the seed to my latest, set in a Victorian asylum.

James Grey is one of the warders. His day to day quite literally forgettable. Until now. Slowly the world around him starts to change. Plagued by lucid dreams, a haunting drawing and visions of a pleading female he feels his mind is dissolving. Aided by the enigmatic Silas and silent Marianne he seeks to solve the mysteries that are tormenting him.
He is also held back by the unpleasant doctor and unhelpful staff, not to mention the uneasy presence of their most dangerous patient; Atrocity.

Took me over a year as I went into researching and also plotting the twist took a bit of time.

Featured Interview With Safira X

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hey, I’m Safira!
I’m a newly self-published author. I have a thing for dark fiction, thrillers, and adventure novels. You could say my writing is for those with an acquired taste…
I was raised in a small town that was pretty boring. I think my imagination is so wild now because I was always daydreaming to keep myself entertained lol.
Now, I live in a bigger, fun city. I love it here (no shade to my hometown).
I have one dog, and he’s my BFF, of course.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized I was passionate about writing and books in the 5th grade after my English teacher gave me my first creative writing assignment. All of my stories were always the craziest and pages longer than everyone else’s because I just couldn’t help myself and every assignment was so much fun for me to do.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, and Angie Thomas, and they inspire me. My favorite genre is Suspense/Thriller.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is a short, paranormal thriller, titled Flower, and it’s pretty insane. But if that’s what you’re into, you’ll love it. It’s available now as an ebook ($2.99) and paperback ($5.99) on Amazon! Flower was inspired by American Horror Story (one of my favorite shows) and some celebrity gossip. I just couldn’t get my mind off the idea of the plot until I wrote it and published it. Usually when story ideas cling to my mind like that, I know they’re going to be good.

Featured Interview With Rue Mayweather

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a native Arkansan. I grew up in Sparkman, Arkansas. Graduated High School and moved to Dallas, Texas enroute to Philadelphia. Love tapped me on the shoulder, I got married in Dallas and had my favorite and only child.

Dallas, Texas is currently my home.

I don’t have any pets however I do love plants succulents and rare plants.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My love for books and reading has always been of great importance probably since 4th or 5th grade. Penning a book was an entirely different galaxy.

When I was four years old I experienced a traumatic event that I locked in my subconscious until I was eleven years old. To this day, there’s no memory of what jarred the recollection of the incident when I was four.
Yet to me a strange occurrence just birth itself. God gave me the title for this book, No Gold At The End Of The Rainbow (NGoR). Yes, I ignored it.

Every year or two I would be reminded of this title and I continued to ignore it 1) this is a very painful story and 2) I had no intention of writing it.

I ignored this assignment for 40 years. It wasn’t until I was deploying to Iraq that I realized that I needed to be obedient. I sat down and penned NGoR in about two weeks.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love stories by the late J Califoria Cooper, Vickie Stringer, Vanessa Miller, Michelle McKinney Hammond, Catherine Coulter (FBI Series), Pastor Rickie G. Rush & Metro Authors Group books

I will read all genres or try to.
Being a news junkie, my writings are inspired by real world events

Tell us a little about your latest book?
No Gold is a sticky-finger page turner novel/memoir that won’t let you put it down once you start reading it. The story is 60+ years old yet is so prevalent to today’s society. The father is 17 years older than the mother and allegedly stole the mother from his oldest son whom she was courting. The mother is a smooth dark chocolate with strong Indian features and long black hair whom any man would want.
To this union 14 children were born, 7 boys and 7 girls. Often, the children would hear their mother say she married into slavery. This was not the life she planned. She had no idea that some 35 years later, Chapter One of No Gold At The End Of The Rainbow would be written.
I still see her propped up against the wall in the kitchen. Muck was all over the floor, and I wondered, What could have happened? In my young mind, I didn’t recall hearing any noise or even where I was when this incident occurred. I just happened to walk into the kitchen from somewhere and saw her sitting there by the wall…not moving, eyes closed. I was only four years old at the time and didn’t really know what to think. I just knew the person propped up against the wall was my mother. It didn’t occur to me that she could be dead or needed help. The sight of her sitting there traumatized me to such a degree that I locked it in my subconscious for seven years.
At that particular moment, I knew my life would change. The innocence of yesterday was lost to me forever, and although I was only four years old at the time, I knew that I’d never forget that day or the adverse impact it would have on my life.
During the period that the incident occurred, eleven children had been born to my father and mother’s marriage union, and I was the youngest of the eleven – curious, smart, inquisitive, and cute!
As I recall now after all those years, it is peculiar that I could remember my age on the day of the incident. My family moved a lot when I was young, yet I am certain I was four years old when the incident happened.
Why I finally recalled this incident is unclear to me. I do know, however, that when I did recall it, God gave me the title for this book. I was eleven years old then and had no interest whatsoever in writing a book. My desire was to become a fashion designer!
What I learned after 40 years was 1) God Always has the First & Last Say and 2) I had to live the book before I could write it! Although the book is centered around the 50’s its plight is filled with domestic violence, mental illness, cocaine use, homosexuality and military fratricide. Enoy

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Through a quirk – which his doctor’s insist is a mental illness – Ky’s nightmares have had a coherent plot and character development since he was a teenager. Now, he is writing them down.

Experts agree, they will feature heavily in his murder trial.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
At age fourteen Ky and his brother completed Final Fantasy 9 on PS-1. From then, he was determined to write a sprawling fantasy with an ensemble cast.

Once he learnt that copyright was a thing, he decided to create his own characters instead.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Richard Matheson, of I am Legend fame, is largely the author I seek to emulate. His economy of words allows a vivid, and downright frightening, image to be conveyed in a short sentence. Sadly, this is something lacking from the Fantasy genre as a whole, where authors are prone to expansive world-building passages, or gigantic tomes chock full of what foods the characters are eating.

I aim to fix this and bring a Thriller style of writing to the Epic Fantasy genre.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Fear the Cold is a vivisection on the corpse of the hero archetype. It is a world of consequence and danger, where a soldier is more likely to flee from battle than rise to the occasion. It is a harsh and realistic version of a fantasy world that aims to rekindle the sense of wonder and magic which the latest slew of “grim-dark” fantasy has butchered and buried.

Darius has a penchant for choosing the wrong type women while coping with Depression.
