Featured Author Shaman Elizabeth Herrera

elizabeth-herrera-by-the-tree-medFeatured Interview With Shaman Elizabeth Herrera

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Michigan. I moved to Florida with my husband and kids for six years before residing in North Carolina.

Michigan has a cold, unrelenting winter.

Florida was hot year round and so very exotic. It was like living in zoo with large snake, alligators, osprey, bald eagles, flocks of parrots, lizards, boa constrictors and others, sometimes only a few feet away. And of course, we lived there during the infamous hurricane period.

North Carolina is a compromise between the two. Hot summers and mild winters. The people are friendly, but I miss the casual atmosphere of Florida.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
All I ever wanted to do was read! And once I learned, I visited the library every time I could. I’d check out the maximum limit and read them all before returning for more books. I won a third grade reading contest by reading over 80 books during the school year.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Visionary fiction has always been one of my favorite genres, even as a kid, I read “A Wrinkle in Time,” “Jonathan Living Seagull,” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

I am usually inspired by a need to get a specific message out to the world while at the same time learn a specific life lesson for myself.

“Shaman Stone Stone” is a memoir, but my intention was to too show that shamanism (Native American spirituality) doesn’t have to be scary. Along the way, it turned into a book about miracles, because I began to realize how many miracles and healings had happened in so many different ways besides shamanism…such as dreams and divine intervention. I let the story evolve on its own.

“Dreams of Dying” was inspired by a vivid dream, in which Jesus showed me four pivotal scenes. When I woke up I knew I would write the story although I had never written fiction and frankly didn’t expect to write another book.

I would pray for guidance before writing and just let it flow. I had no idea how the pivotal scenes would connect or how the story would end. I realized I wrote the ending afterwards!

I believe “Dreams of Dying” came together perfectly, but it’s NOT a Christian book. Jesus Christ in my book is more about love and Oneness, not doctrine. I believe this has confused many readers, but I had to write the book as the inspiration came to me.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, “Earth Sentinels,” was inspired by a story told to my children over breakfast. When I saw their eyes wide with fascination, I knew I was on to something!

My mission with “Earth Sentinels” was make people aware of the environmental concerns that are killing our planet while at the same time offering insights to indigenous spirituality and a damn good adventure.

Featured Author Katie Mettner

Katie_S_8040_1editedFeatured Interview With Katie Mettner

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Eau Claire Wisconsin, which is French for clear waters. It’s a very arts and entertainment centered community. I lived there in the same house for the first 20 years of my life before I moved a little further north to Chetek. What I liked about Eau Claire was it was a big enough city to keep you active and engaged, but small enough that it felt friendly and welcoming. I am currently living in a much smaller city in Northern Wisconsin near Superior and Duluth. I’m a living kidney donor since 2009 and a left below knee amputee since 2011. I used to love ballroom dancing before an injury to my ankle no longer allowed me to dance, but after my amputation I was finally able to again! I’ve been married for 14 years to my soulmate. We met on Thankgiving, got engaged on New Year’s Eve and were married in April. It’s been a real life love story for me. My husband is a teacher for a local school district and my three kids attend school with him. My daughter sings opera and plays sax, my middle son plays the bassoon and my youngest son can play Thrift Shop on his recorder using his nose.

My books are set in Superior Wisconsin/Duluth Minnesota area. They are spicy Christian Romance novels and always feature a protagonist who is questioning their faith for one reason or another. They aren’t your grandmother’s Christian romance novels and by that I mean there is sex and real life topics in every book. I like to say my books are about real people in real life situations looking for the one who is right for them and in doing so once again find their faith.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have loved books for as long as I can remember. There was never a day that passed where I didn’t read or was read too. Both of my parents are big readers. My father used to take all three of us kids to the library in Eau Claire every week. We spent hours upon hours of time in the library reading and exploring books. I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, The Boxcar children and transitioned in Mary Higgins Clark at a very early age. I think I really found the love of writing in fourth grade when my teacher at the time was big into journaling. One of the assignments was to rewrite a Disney story. I wrote “The True Story of Snow White’ and she liked it so much she sent it into a kids writing contest. That definitely gave me the itch to write. It wasn’t until I went through a lot of personal trauma and experiences that I was able to write about the things I do now.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors are Mary Higgins Clark, Janet Evanovich, Julie Kramer, Brian Freeman, Gemma Halliday, Amy Gregory, Dana Mason, and Tonya Kappes. My favorite genre is definitely mysteries and thrillers or romantic suspense. I write Christian romance, but it’s not my favorite genre unless I happen upon another author who writes realistic Christian fiction that pertains to today’s society.

My books are inspired by God. It’s okay, roll your eyes, I think most people do, but it’s true. He puts these characters into my heart, tells me what their condition is they need to overcome and expects me to do the rest. It takes a whole lot of faith every day to keep writing, but the stories are so loved by the readers that as soon as I release one I’m right away writing the next. He never leaves me for a lack of ideas. I think my favorite part is finding the Bible verse that will be woven throughout the story. Once I have that I use it as inspiration as I write.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Autumn Reflections is the second in the Northern Lights series. We meet Autumn Hanson and her son Grayson in the first book, Granted Redemption, but we don’t learn much about her other than she is an orthopedic surgeon. Autumn ended up being a character I fell in love with, so I decided she needed her own story. She is raising her physically disabled son Grayson as a single mother while working full time as an orthopedic surgeon. When the story opens it’s fall in Cloquet Minnesota and Autumn is new to town. The newspaper, The Pine Journal, sends their top reporter Kade Franco to her clinic to do an ‘Our Neighbor” interview. Kade sees something in Autumn that tells him she is his meant to be and set his sights on winning her trust. Grayson is a special little boy who spends a lot of time taking care of his momma, even though she doesn’t know she needs it. He’s only seven, but he has an old soul and knows how lonely his mom is, even though she never lets on. Grayson teams up with Kade and his new dog Ace to show Autumn that love never fails.

Autumn Reflections actually only took me about three weeks to write. Her story just flowed through me and when I would sit down to write. Each time I would fall more and more in love with Grayson with every paragraph. I laughed and cried during many of her scenes. The reaction from my beta readers was astounding and for the first time they told me “DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING!” That was a first and I knew it was going to be one of my favorite stories to date.

1 Corinthians 13:8: Love never fails.
Grayson Hanson likes to pretend he’s a superhero, sent to earth to fight off the bad guys. In reality, he’s a seven-year-old boy who wears those same superheroes on his leg braces, and fights off bullies at school. His mother, Dr. Autumn Hanson, will do anything to protect her son, including leaving her prestigious position as one of Duluth’s top orthopedic surgeons. Hoping for a fresh start, she moves Grayson to Cloquet, Minnesota and opens her own clinic. Steadfast in her desire for a new life, Autumn agrees to be interviewed for a feature article in the local paper.
Kade Franco is a well respected journalist, who at forty-two has had his own share of love’s regrets. As the city’s most eligible bachelor, Kade can have any woman he wants, but he’s waiting for his meant-to-be. Where he doesn’t expect to find her is in the beautiful hazel eyes of the newest doctor in town.
Autumn finds Kade Franco’s sexy chocolatey brown eyes and strong lumberjack physique to be her kryptonite. She’s spent the last seven years building a wall around her heart, but fears it isn’t strong enough to withstand a man of steel determined to show her love never fails.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Kent U.K. A former Biology teacher, I began fiction writing while studying for an English degree as a mature student. I now live in Southport, a beautiful, Victorian ,seaside town in the north of England.

I became fascinated with books at a very early age, as soon as I was able to have a library ticket.

I started writing in 1998

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Being the co-ordinator of a Book Reading Group, the books which I now read are very diverse. I studied Crime Fiction while at Uni. as this was the genre which I was interested in at the time.
To date my favourite authors are Khaled Hosseini, Stephen Booth(crime) Kate Grenville and Kate Atkinson.

Featured Author Gerald Freeman

profile3Featured Interview With Gerald Freeman

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Gerald Freeman left England at the age of twenty to hitch around Europe in search of a future that inspired him. He spent ten years travelling around the world picking up work, if he was lucky along the way. He wrote constantly about his experiences and the weird and wonderful characters he met along the way, and he is now working on a project he calls Life, which is a set of memoirs about his journeys. Gerald currently resides in Portugal with his wife and dogs. He enjoys writing about life and sharing experiences he hopes people will identify with.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have written notes about things my whole life but I decided to actually write the books when I returned from Africa after spending two years living in Kenya and Uganda. After I had returned, I found people would constantly be asking me what Africa was like and I would continually provide them with answers that did not do the country justice. It was at this point, I realised that Kill Daddy had to be written.
It was the sense of responsibility, which drove me to publish my first book. I felt it was my duty to share what I had seen and experienced and make people more aware of the fact that people all over world are surviving on nothing and do not even have access to basic dental and medical treatments. With difficulty, I also realised that I would only be telling half the story, if I did not delve into why I went there in the first place. Childhood trauma can be a long and difficult process to overcome and I hope that I can inspire people to fight on because happiness can be found and also a way to live with the memories instead of letting them destroy you.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Richard Bach and Vera Stanley Alder made me the man I am today x

Tell us a little about your latest book?
TEASER from my next book: I Don’t Believe God Wrote The Bible. Coming out soon!

Two teenagers go hitching around Europe in search of a life they never even knew existed. Either that or live under the tyranny of Thatcher, a leader that hated the creative thinkers, artists and lazy hippies, who thought outside of her box.
Excerpt:

“I’ve heard it said that the golden days of hitching are over and that now it’s too dangerous to tramp around Europe, but I disagree whole-heartedly. People have always said that. There is an element of danger but what people don’t understand is that there is something higher involved. I’m not talking about a two week holiday in Corfu and God will be there to protect you, no, when you are travelling on a permanent basis and it becomes a way of life, you become connected to something, which is part of a bigger plan whether you like it or not. To not have acknowledged it would have been like refusing to learn, or not wanting to grow.”

Featured Author Jessica Kelly

Portrait of a amazing beautiful womanFeatured Interview With Jessica Kelly

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m a native Floridian, and I still call the Sunshine State home. I know how lucky I am to live in a place where most people only get to go on vacation — or dream of going on vacation! Being able to brainstorm new characters and new plot twists out in the warm sunshine is a dream come true. It never feels like work!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always dreamed of writing books. I started writing when I was a kid. I actually opened up a poem writing business when I was 8! Friends and family would pay me a couple of dollars to write a poem for them. Guess I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset!

My first venture into the professional writing world (as an adult!) was when I wrote “Trick Play”, which was released on 8/11/14. As fun as it was to dream of this life when I was a kid, actually seeing my name on a book cover is an even bigger adrenaline rush!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’ve been fascinated with Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel for years. They have this amazing way of pulling you into the story. It’s always a real struggle to put their books down!

Even though I focus on the Romantic Suspense niche as a writer, that’s not all I read in my downtime. I love sports-related books. “Zim” by the late, great Don Zimmer is an amazing collection of stories that span decades of baseball history, and Yogi Berra’s books are always great for a belly-laugh. I’m also a big fan of Howard Falco’s “I AM” because it focuses on the power that you have to make your dreams come true.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Trick Play” takes place in Curtinville, Texas — a tiny town that’s completely obsessed with football. Rebecca Stone comes all the way from Los Angeles to start her TV career here. She has big dreams — specifically, to become a big-time sports journalist — but there are big hurdles standing in her way. Her boss vows to ruin her, and there are secrets lurking in Curtinville that may destroy her dream forever.

Of course, it isn’t ALL work for Rebecca. The gorgeous ex-quarterback — who is Curtinville’s version of a major celebrity — falls hard for her. She’s afraid that falling for him will make it look like she’s trying to sleep her way to the top, but she can’t ignore her feelings forever!

As an author, it was so much fun to watch this relationship play out. Seeing how the town’s secrets affect this relationship was an emotional rollercoaster — plenty of highs and lows. I feel like we really get to see the struggles these characters have, which made me fall even more in love with them.

Featured Author Harry Whitewolf

Wolf-Logo-copyFeatured Interview With Harry Whitewolf

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hi, I’m Harry from England. Although I’ve travelled around a little in my thirty eight years, I’m back in the U.K now, in my tree top flat with woodpeckers on the balcony. After a few crazy years, I need peace and quiet right now thanks!
I’ve always written -different things- as a hobby, I’ve had the odd article published here and there, and in my youth I performed at open mic. poetry nights and organised and M.C’d my own. These days I’m more interested in just writing books.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved reading from an early age- though I stopped for a few years in my youth when mates, gigs and girls took presidence , but I soon took it up again in my early twenties. It’s as much of an addiction as cigarettes.
Having said that, when I’m writing myself I can barely read other people’s work, and if I do, it has to be non-fiction. Which is why I’m currently devouring novels, having starved myself of literature for the best part of two years (writing my debut and the next one to come).
I’ve always written (beat like) poems, even as a kid. And I’ve always invented stories, be them in my head or on paper. I also co-published my first magazine at age ten. It cost 10p, was a sell out in the playground at lunchtime every month and the profits went to charity. Later, I got involved with the performance poetry scene a little, but it’s only now that I’m taking my writing seriously. Visual art used to be my first passion.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
As an author, my writing is inspired by the Beats- particularly Kerouac, Ginsberg and Burroughs, but also Richard Bach (who in many ways was responsible for me beginning my spiritual journey) and Paulo Coelho.
But I love lots of different stuff as a reader. For humour, it’s Red Dwarf, Adrian Mole and Hitch Hiker’s. For non-fiction, it’s the likes of Robert Bauval, Graham Hancock, David Icke (yes, David Icke- get over it!), Kahlil Gibran and Lyall Watson. Favourite fiction includes the Illuminated Books of Blake, The Dice Man, The Famished Road, The Dharma Bums, Illusions, Gormenghast, 1984, The Secret History, Jpod, Joanthan Strange & Mr. Norrell and many others.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Route Number 11: Argentina, Angels & Alcohol is a beat driven book of parties and loneliness on a backpacking journey (which takes in Paraguay and Chile as well as Argentina). The protagonist, the nameless tourist, who bares an uncanny resemblance to myself, follows the strange 11:11 Phenomenon through many stories of smoky bars, sexy senoritas and magnificent mountains, as he battles to let go of his broken heart, submerged in alcohol and cigarettes. A true story told in a tangle of cut up timelines, with poetic prose, it’s a Contemporary, Spiritual, Travel book with sex, drugs and reggaeton!

Paper-Doll-smallFeatured Interview With Joe Cosentino

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a New Yorker who has acted on stage and screen with stars like Bruce Willis, Rosie O’Donnell, Holland Taylor, Jason Robards, and Nathan Lane.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I wrote my first play when I was ten years old. It was a riot.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am a huge fan of Armistead Maupin, Greg Herren, Agatha Christie, Laura Levin, and G.A. McKevett. Mysteries are my passion.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first novel, PAPER DOLL (mystery/romance/Hollywood) has been a work in progress for the last two years. I am happy to report it is garnering good reviews. Here’s the description:

Jana Lane was America’s most famous child star until she was attacked on the studio lot at eighteen years old. Now a thirty-eight-year-old beauty and mother of two living in a mansion in picturesque Hudson Valley, New York, Jana’s flashbacks from her past turn into murder attempts in her present.
The local suspects include Jana’s down-on-his-luck husband with a dislike for living off the fruits of his wife’s young labor, Jana’s sister and male friend (who both have eyes for Jana’s husband), Jana’s show business father, her deranged loyal fan, and Jana’s young Guy Friday who covets her fame and shares an uncanny resemblance to Jana.
Forced to summon up the lost courage she had as a child, Jana visits the California movie studio she once called home. This sends her on a whirlwind of visits with former and current movie studio personnel. It also leads to a romance with the son of her old producer—Rocco Cavoto—the devilishly handsome filmmaker who is planning Jana’s comeback both professionally and personally. With Rocco’s help, Jana uncovers a web of secrets about everyone she loves, including the person who destroyed her past and threatens to snuff out her future.

Featured Author Kristen Houghton

Woman with gunFeatured Interview With Kristen Houghton

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m originally a California girl who came to the east coast attend college. I fell in love with the excitement of New York City, and with the man who became my husband, and decided this was a perfect place to write thrillers.

I began writing articles, with my byline, for free for an online magazine. It was a good experience because my name and work did get noticed and I learned a great deal from the editor-in-chief. While I was there, a paying magazine contacted me and asked if I’d like to write a weekly column for them. That was the San Francisco Examiner. My column covered everything from politics, to issues affecting women, to healthy, successful lifestyle. I’ve done work for Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network, the Style Channel, and HBO documentaries.

Surprisingly, since I am not this way in some other areas of my life, I am a very organized writer. I like to write beginnings, middles, and endings in my stories in that order. This gives me a story timeline and lets me get inside the minds of my characters as if I am going through what is happening to them. Let’s say that everything is going along smoothly in the beginning of the story and then something unexpected or traumatic happens, how does that impact one or more characters and how do they react? But I do sometimes write endings or future parts of a story if an idea comes to me. My filing system on my computer is well-labeled with stories, story ideas, and articles.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Well, I was always a story-teller and that’s what writers do; we tell stories. I was the little girl who could keep her friends interested for a couple of hours by telling all different types of stories. My imagination was, and is, very fertile and active. In high school I created a sort of soap opera and each day during study hall I would hand out the next part of the story. I made sure to always leave a cliffhanger of sorts with each new part to stir up anticipation.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My reading tastes are eclectic, I just love reading. Everything is there, from the classics by Shakespeare, Austin, Dickens to Victorian English dramas such as John Galsworthy’s The Forsyte Saga, to the classic horror of Stephen King and Anne Rice. I also love The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency series and anything written by Amy Tan especially The Bonesetter’s Daughter. Reading is my escape and my pleasure.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I wanted to take the ongoing scandal of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, which has been very much in the news over the past few years, coupled with the cold case of a boy gone missing ten years ago to weave a story that would become a thriller with several twists and unexpected turns. I also wanted to create a strong woman private investigator with a wry sense of humor who plays tennis to alleviate the stress in her job.
My character of Cate Harlow is very good at what she does; she’s tough, relentless, and goes by a strong “gut instinct”. At the same time, she is also very human. She’s involved with two men, her ex-husband NYC homicide detective Will Benigni who can’t understand why the two of them can’t get back together, and her current interest, the city’s top-notch, Medical Examiner, Giles Barrett.

Cate’s loyal to her best friend, upper class “lady-of-the evening”, Melissa, gives twenty dollars a week to Bo the homeless man in the hopes that he’ll buy food along with his beer, and allows herself to be slightly mothered by her part-time secretary, the prim and proper Myrtle Goldberg Tuttle. Cate’s compassionate too; she can’t say no to the sad-eyed woman who asks her help in finding her missing brother even though it has been a decade since he has been gone.

Here’s the promo for FOR I HAVE SINNED:
Private investigator Cate Harlow finds herself involved in two cases that seemingly have nothing to do with each other; she soon discovers they may be bizarrely connected. While working the cold case of a boy who went missing ten years ago, she receives an early morning call from her ex-husband, a homicide detective, informing her about a recent murder; the horribly mutilated body of a priest, wearing only a clerical collar has just been found off of Interstate 95 in New York. The murder is eerily similar to a troublesome and unsolved case that Cate worked on less than a year ago. The only difference between the two victims is that the second dead body has a hand-written message in Latin scrawled across the inside of the priestly collar; a message from Dante’s Divine Comedy, “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.” With the priests’ murders heavily on her mind, Cate’s investigation into the missing boy leads her to the august office of a New Jersey archbishop who, she strongly believes, has been hiding pedophile priests for years by transferring them from one parish to another. When Cate discovers that there may be a solid connection between the priest murders and the missing person cold case, she puts her own life on the line to not only solve her cold case but bring a pedophile to justice.

This was a work of love and passion for me and the two years it took to create flew by. This is the first in the A Cate Harlow Private Investigation series.

Featured Author Loukia Borrell

Featured Interview With Loukia Borrell

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Loukia Borrell and I am a native of Toledo, Ohio. I was raised in Virginia Beach and have a bachelor’s degree from Elon University. For about 20 years, I worked as a journalist for magazines and newspapers in Virginia and Florida. In 2009, I started writing my first novel, “Raping Aphrodite,” and self-published it in 2011. I will self-publish its prequel, “Delicate Secrets,” this fall. I am married and have three children.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always been an avid reader and have kept a journal since I was 13. English was my strongest class in high school and that interest continued in college, where I worked for the student newspaper, eventually becoming its editor my senior year. I am 51 now, so I guess I have been writing steadily, either for a living or personally, for nearly 40 years.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My own life experiences, things that have happened to other people and my imagination all inspire my writing. I enjoy reading a variety of authors, with fiction being my favorite genre.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first novel, “Raping Aphrodite,” is historical fiction set against the 1974 invasion and division of Cyprus. My lead female character, Tash Colgate, owns an art gallery and through her husband’s connections, has an opportunity to do an exhibition with antiquities from Cyprus. As she begins to research the island, her life begins to take a dramatic turn and her husband realizes she has a secret connection to Cyprus that, if revealed, will threaten their marriage. It took me about two years to write and edit the novel. I tried to find a literary agent, and sent out queries to about 90 agencies. After all that, I finally decided to self-publish because I had something to say and didn’t want them to tell me I couldn’t. The backdrop of Cyprus is close to me: My parents were from Cyprus and my maternal grandparents went missing when Turkey invaded the island in 1974. All of my other relatives living there at the time became refugees and are still living in exile in their own country 40 years later.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I tend to be an optimistic person. I believe writing is a language of the heart and is a beautiful way to share one’s innermost feelings. I tend to be chatty so people are attracted to me. I am a friendly soul. I am married to a wonderful man . We have three children. There are times I feel like I was born with a pencil in my hand since I am rather comfortable with words and stories. I wrote my first story at six years old and shared it at dinnertime. It was about a pencil and my writing just took off from there. I starting writing in a journal as a teenager. I started life as a military brat. My Dad joined the Air Force when I was six months old. So the world has been my playground/ home. This is where I learned to treat people with respect and I learned to accept myself. I come from a Christian family which means I have always been in Church. When I was 17 I had a personal encounter with Christ. Since then I have been on a journey to learn more about Him and myself. I enjoy writing, reading, blogging, photography, scrapbooking, social networking, walking. I have never met a library or used bookstore that I didn’t like.
I am now married and we moved our family to the beautiful state of Alaska where the spirit of animals and men roam free. My husband and I are college students. we enjoy improving ourselves and learning in general.

I write through the whispered power of the Holy Spirit. I wants to write about the beauty and simplicity of life and reveal the beauty of Christ to the broken and lost souls of humanity. I have been given the ability to write simply and honestly from the heart so it is understandable. I believe writing is a language of the heart and is a beautiful way to share one’s innermost feelings.

I am an author working under the Holy Spirit’s daily direction. I focus on the Holy Spirits daily direction for my life and writing. I have enjoyed a creative partnership with the Holy Spirit for many years.

I write inspirational poetry and has published two books so far. I have been told by my readers that my writing reminds them of the Psalms of David. I have been told I am similar to Ruth Bell Graham and Helen Steiner Rice.

I want to encourage people through the written word with the help of the whispered power of The Holy Spirit I write about the beauty and simplicity of life. Through my writing I want to reveal the beauty of Christ. I listen for the Lord’s direction and write what is put on my heart to encourage the lost and broken souls of the world. I have finally come to realize my purpose in life is to write what is on God’s heart and encourage them with it.

Picture-74Featured Interview With Christopher Antony Meade

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
The first part of my life was lived in Ireland, where I spent a lot of time falling off barstools, and my existence since 1986 has been principally in The UK in London. Recently I moved to the delightful town of Gillingham in the county of Kent. Nowadays I only manage to fall of park benches, as the global recession has made bars too expensive, besides I like a smoke with my drinks, and the “Health Fascists” have outlawed smoking in bars.

My politics could be described as a mixture of extreme conservatism, but leavened with a devotion to fairness, and with a particular devotion to “Gay Rights”

I find the politics and personalities of all republican forms of government to be anathema.

If there were twenty presidents of The United States on one side of a room and the younger son of a minor German prince on the other, I would spend my time talking to the German. Much more interesting to me.

If I got a chance to slap someone in history, it would have to be Woodrow Wilson. He destroyed the Europe that I loved in 1918, and opened it to fascist dictators and communists.

So that is me, a curious and sometimes contradictory individual.

My main redeeming feature is a deep imagination, and a rather twisted sense of humour.

I hope you find all of that in my work.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I had a fascination with books from my very earliest years and I devoured all the great classics from Dickens to Alexandre Dumas. I was always writing interesting essays at school and my teacher predicted that I would become a writer, because of my very vivid imagination.

My working career was not a literary one however. A large variety of occupations gave me a chance to interact with and study all types of people, (something which has been very useful in my writing career).

I started writing professionally about five years ago, with articles and short stories published online. My first and current book was published in 2012. I hope it will be the first of many successors.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite authors are Charles Dickens, P.G Wodehouse, Jonathan Swift, Stephen King, The Bronte Sisters, Bram Stoker, Douglas Adams, George Orwell and there are elements of all of these in my work.

My main sources of inspiration would be Jonathan Swift for satire and P.G Wodehouse for comedy.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“The Zombie, the Cat, and Barack Obama” by Christopher Antony Meade.

I have always been a conspiracy theory sceptic and have doubted the various claims, such as that the United States government bombed the World Trade Centre or that Prince Philip ordered the killing of Princess Diana. To me, all these allegations are just so much unsubstantiated rubbish. It’s amusing to debate the issues, but totally silly to take them seriously. Consequently, when I started to regularly publish articles and stories, many of them were satirising some of the more ridiculous of the various conspiratorial assertions. Since there was a lot of interest in the character, the political acumen and the ancestry of Barack Obama, I included some stories that poked fun at the various theories surrounding the origins of that American president. A further collection of stories satirised the rumours that abound about Area 51 and the origins and continuing influence of the Illuminati.
My fascination with the macabre led me to write a series about a musically talented, but psychopathic, zombie.
At this stage all of these were separate stories, but I realised that they could be connected. To bring Barack Obama and the zombie together, needed but the addition of some connecting tales. That’s where the Downing Street cat came in and the Buckingham Palace connection. Once I’d put them all together and edited them, so that were transformed into a coherent sequence, the book was almost ready to be published. It was still a little short however. Fortunately for me and my reading public, I had some more stories in reserve. These advanced alternative reasons for the global banking collapse and the menace of climate change, among other things.
I then had on my hands a very tidy little novella. By arrangement with an online publishing company, I succeeded in getting it launched as an e-book. It’s been floating around Amazon and a host of other online retailers for some months now. I’ve been very fortunate to attract some excellent reviews, (some from other writers and a few from satisfied customers). Most of these can be read on the Facebook page “The Zombie, the Cat, and Barack Obama”. I’ve included a couple of less favourable ones as well. It’s only fair to give the opposition a chance to air their views. In my opinion, their taste is abysmal. But what else can I say.
If you are tempted to read my book, (which both I and my bank manager hope you are), it is my sincere wish that you get as much pleasure from reading it as I did from writing it.

Karen_Banes_PicFeatured Interview With Karen Banes

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in England, and have traveled fairly extensively. I’ve worked, lived and studied in the USA, Canada, Australia, The Netherlands and Spain. One of the things I love about writing and publishing is that it allows me to work from anywhere in the world, and while others might be lamenting the fall of traditional publishing, the rise of ebooks and everything that implies, I’m just grateful that current technology allows me to do what I do and live the digital nomad lifestyle.

For the last few years I’ve home schooled my two children while writing and publishing books and providing freelance writing and editing services. It’s allowed us to travel together as a family and have some amazing adventures.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love books. I think I’ve had my nose buried in one ever since I learned how to read. I wrote stories from an early age too, but started writing seriously when I graduated university and took a correspondence course in creative writing. I’d have taken an online course but back then they were still busy inventing the internet. I’ve taken breaks (especially when my kids were young) but I’ve been writing on and off for over 20 years.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love so many different authors and books and read in many different genres. I write mainly non-fiction (though I’ve published several short stories and also have a novel I’ve been working on for ages) so I read a lot of non-fiction. My favorite non-fiction author is probably Malcolm Gladwell. In fiction, I’ll read anything from fantasy to romance and I love speculative fiction. My favorite novelists include Margaret Attwood, Amy Tan, and Anne Tyler. My children are now at the teen/tween phase so I read a lot of the teen/young adult fiction they like, from Harry Potter to The Hunger Games.

Because I run my own online business I also read a lot of business books and autobiographies by successful people. I love ‘Losing My Virginity: How I’ve Survived, Had Fun, and Made a Fortune Doing Business My Way’ by Richard Branson and ‘Body and Soul: Profits with Principles – The Amazing Success Story of Anita Roddick & The Body Shop’ by Anita Roddick.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is a non-fiction book for small business owners and entrepreneurs. It’s called ‘Tweeting For a Reason: How (and Why) to Use Twitter to Market Your Business’ and aims to show small business owners how they can use Twitter to promote and market their business and raise brand awareness, for free.

I started my freelance writing and editing business on a zero dollar budget and had to find ways to market my services without spending money. Social media is a great way to do that and I found that Twitter was one of the least understood platforms by many business owners, so I set out to write a step-by-step guide. It’s amazing how current technology allows us to get an online business up and running on a shoestring budget. Another one of my books is called ‘Free Tools for Writers, Bloggers and Solopreneurs’. That’s where I share all the free resources and marketing techniques I’ve discovered over the years.

Featured Author Brian J. Walters

Brian-J-WriterFeatured Interview With Brian J. Walters

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Cleveland, OH. Yep, the city made famous by Drew Carey, Rock and Roll, and the inability to claim any type of sports trophy.

I attended The Ohio State University. Not sure how. I’m guessing the admission person had a hell of a hangover that day and was just rubber stamping all pieces of paper that were laying on their desk. The best thing about OSU – outside of some crazy parties – I discovered Stand Up comedy.

For over 8 years, I spread the joys of humor from the midwest of the United States to the east, south, and west. A lot of my routine was just plain silly, but I did like to slide in the occasional, thought provoking pun from time to time and then sprinkle it with just the right amount of sarcasm.

I also scribed sitcom scripts, short stories, and a book. Unfortunately, none of my amazing words of wonder ever made it to the screen or shelves.

After a move to LA, I fell out of entertainment and into the world of business management. It was interesting and exciting and all in all a good experience, but now it’s time to write!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was fascinated by them my whole childhood. My Mom was/is a ferocious reader. I never read, but sure was fascinated by how she wouldn’t stop.

It was actually my friends that finally convinced me to pick up a book. It was my junior year of high school. They were “advanced” and apparently interesting in studying. They gave me Kurt Vonnegut’s Breakfast of Champions. I loved it. It was weird, funny, and made me think. After that I started burrowing through my Mom’s library.

I started writing in college. Took a class and got a B on my first paper. The teacher really liked the story, but said I needed to work on my punctuation. Apparently, I was suppose to use something other than commas.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I really haven’t a read a lot in a long while. I’m definitely a fiction friend – my last favorite author was Christopher Moore- but I did slip into a non-fiction historical period before work and writing took over my life.

My wife inspires me a lot. She’s very strong, smart, sexy, and funny as hell. Injustice and ignorance is also an inspiration to me. I just don’t like people being kept or held down; physically, mentally, or economically. My first novel is going to be based in this issue, but don’t worry, it will be done with intelligence and funny.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Oh yeah. That’s why I’m here. The Chaise. This one came out of no where. I had just joined up with Goodreads.com and was following a short story contest. I was amazed how the writers would be given a word or description and then build an entire story within the confines of 3,000 words; and have it done within a week.

So I thought I’d give it a shot. 1,500 words. 2,500 words. 5,500 words and growing. It just kept growing. That’s when I learned the terms Novelette and Novella. I reached Novella with the first draft, but then rewrites put it back into the Novelette realm.

I like it. The back story is her husband, Theo, is in Africa. He represents a solar energy company which is trying to bring power to everyone; instead of just the rich – see how the keeping people down thing always makes an appearance?

Bridgette has her own business as a major event planner. They’ve both done pretty good and have a real nice place in a remote area of Florida. The problem is she hasn’t heard from Theo in two days, which is not the norm.

Her concern becomes obsessive. She starts to teeter on the verge of paranoia, and it all starts to spin out of control. She starts to melt present moments with the pleasures and passions of their past. The one thing she takes comfort in, is the security of her one constant; The Chaise. It always seems to be a part of the story.

It’s funny, when I talk about, and describe it, it sounds a bit scary; but it’s really a romance story that offers unexpected twists and turns. Keeps you tuned in. The biggest complaint I’ve heard the most, is that it ends to soon. “You should have made it a novel!”

Who knows? Remember, it was suppose to be short story in the beginning…

Featured Author Ellie Midwood

16f211bfEllieMidwoodFeatured Interview With Ellie Midwood

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, but I’ve always been fascinated by the American lifestyle and that’s why right after I graduated from the foreign languages faculty in my University I decided to move to New York. I fell in love with this city at first sight and now I’m very happy to call myself a proud New Yorker. I currently live in Brooklyn but love going to the City all the time, it always inspires me, educates me and just gives me a boost of energy when I need it.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing small essays and short stories in my high school, but I really learned and developed my skills at my University. We had great professors, both Russian and American, who always engaged us in writing and analyzing the stories and books we read during our Foreign Literature classes. Some of my works were published in my University text books and I remember how proud I was to be recognized, even within a small circle of the readers who were my fellow students. Since then I never stopped writing, I started the blog and always walk around with a little notebook – in case I need to put on paper some ideas or a character sketch.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My all time favorite will definitely be Paulo Coelho. He’s such an inspiring author, it amazes me how in every book he can not only tell a story, but appeal to the readers, lead and motivate them and I think that’s the best thing an author can do – to motivate, not only entertain. Every time I read his books (“The Alchemist” is my favorite one, I probably read it about 50 times by now) I find something new for myself, and I heard a lot of stories that Paulo Coelho books are really life-changing.
As for the genres I prefer, I would say I like general fiction with a strong message and character development, I think it’s very important in a story when the main character is taken out of his or her comfortable environment and has to transform in order to adapt to the new circumstances. This what happens in real life and I love reading based on real life and events stories as well, they are the best. It’s like I’m reading about a person who I could have actually met, it’s truly fascinating.
As for the authors who inspire me, I wouldn’t be honest if I said someone does. I mean I love reading their books, but I don’t want to be influenced by their writing, I want to create my own story, based on my own experience and views. And among this authors I would name Arthur Golden, Lauren Weinberger and Mikhail Bulgakov. I would put it this way, they inspire me in life, inspire me to create, but I never try to imitate their work.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
This is a story of a young girl of Russian-Jewish heritage Mila, who came to New York in search of true love and the American Dream. But after struggling to survive and keep a roof above her head, she turns to an option that she never even considered before: she becomes an exotic dancer. On her way she meets a lot of people, both good and bad, and she depicts every single one of them with incredible honesty. She falls in love with the owner of the club, the powerful Italian-American mobster R., and now they both have to fight for their bright future together.

This is the story of love and hatred, of friendship and betrayal, and everything else that takes place behind the closed doors of a gentleman’s club.

This book is very different from everything that has already been written in this genre as I wanted to tell a story from an immigrant’s point of view and to show my readers how hard it is to make it here if you don’t have any papers. Also, for me the main reason for writing this book was to make the readers understand the real reasons why even well-educated girls from good families sometimes find themselves in a gentleman’s club. Because let’s face it, mostly all the people who I was talking to prior to writing this book, especially those who have never been introduced to the night club world, have this stereotype in their head: all exotic dancers are shameless, uneducated home-wreckers who don’t know any better than to dance almost naked for money. Well, all those people would be very surprised if I told them that I personally know so many girls who have to dance to pay tuition for their higher education. Those are the future doctors and lawyers, interior designers and fashion journalists for whom dancing is the only opportunity to pay for their dream career choice. For most of the dancers a gentleman’s club is only a phase and normally a very short one, then they move on, get their dream job, get married and have kids and nobody would even know what they used to do. I wanted to break that stereotype for everybody.

Featured Interview With Lisa Dawn

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I currently reside in Texas (sweltering) with my wonderful husband, amazing and spunky daughter, our two cats and three dogs. For as long as I can remember I have loved to put a pen to paper but I never had the courage to show anyone my work. Until now.

I just published my first YA book, A tale of two witches and I am working on two others books that will be ready to publish by the end of the year.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Growing up I always had a book in my hand, and at age 9 I discovered Stephen King and fell in love with the art of story telling. I began writing not long after that, creating stories and poems. I wish that I kept writing and followed my dream, but I believe that everything happens for a reason and back then it wasn’t my time to write.

My daughter encouraged me to start writing again and I am very glad she did. I forgot how much I missed it. There is nothing quite like getting lost in your story, becoming one with your characters, and live in your fictional world for a while. It’s a great break from reality and always puts me in a great mood.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read anything paranormal, thrillers, horror, and romance. I like to read in a variety of genre’s and I currently do not have a favorite. As far as who inspires me in my writing, pretty much anyone I have been in contact with. If you know me and you’ve done something that sticks out in my memory, better believe I will find a way to include that into my story.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I began writing A tale of two witches last year. It took me a while to write it because I was limited to when I could write. I have a day job and domestic responsibilities to take care of when I get home, so I usually did the majority of my writing while sitting in the car line waiting to pick up my daughter from school, or for a few hours each day on the weekends.

Lexi Reed I feel is my alter ego and I really enjoyed writing her. There were times I felt like I was Lexi (I guess I did kind of model her after me), and would find myself sometimes asking “What would Lexi do?” She had to find her courage and slowly began to realize she could do anything if she would put her mind to it. By the end of the book, she was fearless. I had so much fun writing this story and I can’t wait to finish book 2 By the light of the moon. Below you will find a brief description of A tale of two witches.

A powerful witch.

A jealous vampire witch.

A new love interest.

What could possibly go wrong?

Lexi Reed is not your typical, normal sixteen year old girl. She is becoming the most powerful witch that exists, and has always been told she is the only one that can destroy the vampire witch Leticia.

Leticia is power hungry and wants to be the one that is most powerful and take over the world. She knows the only way she can get what she wants is to get rid of Lexi and absorb her power.

Lexi started growing close to the boy that has loved her for so long, Kevin. Leticia takes Kevin hostage leaving Lexi to race against time, battling her inner demons along the way, on her quest to rescue her love and exterminate the vampwitch.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in rural West Virginia as the youngest son of a blue-collar family. Obviously, I needed to find a way to pay for my college, so when I was 14, I decided to put my skills to the test by writing a book.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I loved books the moment I could read. At first, I started with about 5 books a year, then 20, and now about 50! I published my first novel at 15–as a sophomore in high school. My second one when I was 17, and now my third book ‘Ecclesiastes’ to be released on my 18th birthday! I have been so blessed to have paid for college through my books and I am continually grateful for the teachers, mentors, and friends who aided me along the way.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Without a doubt, George Orwell. His style is superb. I not only love his style but also WHAT he wrote about: politics, philosophy, the condition of the human mind–collectively and individually.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Following the story of two rivaling characters, Locke and Paine, ‘Ecclesiastes’ is the fictional interpretation of the Biblical book that shares the same name. In it, the city of Washington is surrounded by an enemy Unknown to the reader. The fate of the city and her inhabitants lie solely in the hands of these two troubled politicians. How will they save the souls in the city? What lies in their pasts that will determine their futures? And just who is the enemy that they are so afraid of? The answers will surprise you.

Featured Author M.C. Roman

1e4bcd4Featured Interview With M.C. Roman

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the US, but grew up in Mexico City where I attended an American school. Both English and Spanish have been a part of me since the beginning, but there have been waves where one language has superseded the other throughout the years. I enjoy both languages equally, but there are also many different things/saying that can be expressed better in one language over the other. I think I enjoy writing in English a bit more as I think I express myself ultimately better in this language, but reading in Spanish just seems much more romantic – especially poetry! I have lived in New York mostly since college and I recently moved to Brooklyn.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized I was fascinated with books when I was 6 years old. My family had just moved to Mexico and I spent most of first grade hidden in the school library, trying to get my hands on as many children’s books as possible. I’ve always enjoyed creative writing and this became more apparent to me during high school. In 10th grade, I won an award for “Best English Student” of my class and then went on to take AP English Courses. In college, life got in the way and I ended up studying Psychology and thus, writing was put on hold. Once I graduated, I found myself applying to different publishing houses for work, but eventually ended up in Market Research. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t until I was in between jobs after graduating from business school that I finally found some time and set myself up to start writing my first novel, Teaching Mia. The words simply started pouring out as the story had been stuck in my head for a few years and I haven’t looked back ever since!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Growing up in Mexico, my favorite authors are mostly from Latin America. Carlos Fuentes is a huge inspiration to me (Mia’s last name from Teaching Mia came from him) and I always looked up to the fact that he is one of the first few truly bilingual authors in Spanish and English and I absolutely loved reading his short stories growing up. Other authors include: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Octavio Paz, Mario Vargas Llosa. In English, my favorite book is Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and also love Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo. My favorite genres to read nowadays are new adult, contemporary romance, and bit of paranormal.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I was inspired to write Stealing Emma after I completed the first book in the series, Teaching Mia. I was very drawn to Max’s character in the first book and felt that there was a whole other story hidden within him. I started to develop his character a bit further and before I knew it another romantic hero in the Durant family was born. I was also still very inspired by the setting of the books, which is based on my experience during grad school while living in Spain. My time there was so rich and intense, I felt that there were more aspects to explore and showcase through a second book.

Max Durant is the male lead in Stealing Emma and is Leo Durant’s older brother from Teaching Mia. His character originated from the first book, so I developed his character further in this one. He is the funnier one in the family and doesn’t take things very seriously…until he meets Emma Blake and she completely rocks his world. Emma is a combination of a few people I’ve met, but she is a very smart and confident woman who gets mixed in between her boyfriend Roy and Max. Her relationship with both of them gets tested and she becomes torn in the process being pulled in different directions.

MICHAEL SMART/PORTRAIT FOR BOOK COVER/AUG 6TH 2013Featured Interview With Michael Smart

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m of Jamaican and British ancestry, born in New York City but lived until age 16 in various parts of Europe and the West Indies. Probably where I acquired the travel bug, but I think I actually inherited it from my adventurous mother. My passions include flying, blue water sailing, reading, and of course writing. I retired from the work-a-day world for the first time in my late twenties to travel around the world, and I spent years sailing around the Caribbean. Returned to the work-a-day world to raise two extraordinary kids, and retired again as soon as they were off on their own. Now I write full time, mostly mysteries and science fiction, and anywhere I happen to hang my hat for the moment is home.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
From early on, perhaps 9 or 10 years old, I’ve been fascinated by stories I discovered in books and the power of imagination. That fired my own imagination and my desire to write and tell stories. I began writing and attempting to create stories around age 13.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I cut my teeth reading authors like Raymond Chandler, Dashiel Hammett, John D. MacDonald, Author Conan Doyle, Leslie Charteris with the great Simon Templar Saint series, John Creasey’s The Toff, and Dick Francis among many others. And of course sci-fi greats like Clarke, Wells, Bradbury, Heinlein, Herbert, Asimov to name just a few. Contemporary favorites, though sadly some are no longer with us, include Robert B. Parker, Clive Cussler, the great Patrick O’Brian, Steig Larsson, Sarah Paretsky and Nora Roberts. So those are the genres I mostly read. I enjoy those authors for the kind of characters they created, the Saint and Travis McGee among my all time favorites. I try to emulate that kind of character building and storytelling in my writing.

The book just released is the second title in the Bequia Mysteries series. The stories involve mystery and danger spiced with a bit of romance, and set in the exotic islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. My three central characters share my passion for ocean sailing and flying, and they navigate complex relationships while attempting to solve the central dilemma and of course, stay alive. In writing the series the main character Gage actually came to me first. It was a time in my life when I was considering retiring early and returning to the Grenadines. But I knew it wouldn’t be the same as when I lived there, some things I wouldn’t be able to still do. Too much time had passed, my perspective and my body had changed. The islands had changed. And I wondered what it’d be like living there now. As I thought about those things the character developed, and also the themes of life changing choices, redemption, and finding love. So Gage arrives in the Grenadines with an entirely new perspective than he had in his past life, and he has to cope with reinventing himself at an older stage in life.
