Featured Author M Pepper Langlinais

manda_cropFeatured Interview With M Pepper Langlinais

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Texas, outside of Austin, and then we moved up to the Dallas area when I was in sixth grade. But I mostly identify with my French Creole roots in southern Louisiana; we spent all our vacations down there with my cousins. Now I’m out in California (San Francisco area). I don’t have pets but I do have three kids, and that’s kind of the same thing.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My parents are readers so it was natural for me to become one, too. I taught myself to read when I was three and never stopped. When I was six or seven, I started writing “newspapers” for the neighborhood kids. Except the stories weren’t real, they were serials that I made up. (I did also create mazes and crossword puzzles.)

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I go through phases. I did a Dean Koontz and Stephen King phase when I was in middle school (and I still do read Mr. King from time to time). Victoria Holt for a while. Michael Crichton. And Anne Rice in high school. Neil Gaiman and Nick Hornby in college. But what I really love is historical fiction (Alison Weir). And I love Jane Austen and Shakespeare, too. Kate Morton, Sarah Addison Allen are other favorites. And I return to Zilpha Keatley Snyder now and then, when I’m feeling nostalgic for my childhood.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Andra has the ability to make people’s wishes come true, and when she’s called to help up-and-coming actor David Styles, she can’t figure out why–he has everything he wants and needs. Then Andra realizes it isn’t David at all. Not exactly. There’s actually something inside David that’s calling to Andra, but in order to fulfill her duty, it may mean destroying David himself.

Readers have asked for a sequel, and I’m in the planning stages for it; I played with the idea as part of the A to Z Challenge this past April.

You’ll find that the idea of fate and hidden personas is pretty strong in most of my work. The YA novel I’m writing now has very similar themes. It’s something that fascinates me–the idea of “meant to be” or search for a particular soul mate. The agony of being without your other half. And then what happens when you find them. Because I don’t believe it’s all easy street after that. In fact, I believe it becomes much more complicated.

So “The K-Pro” isn’t exactly a romance. There’s attraction, but the draw is something otherworldly.

Featured Author Dianna Winget

dianna-pressFeatured Interview With Dianna Winget

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’ve spent most of my life in the Pacific Northwest, and I currently live in the beautiful mountains of north Idaho with my husband, daughter, and two canine buddies–a mild mannered Chihuahua and a bossy Dachshund. I love reading, dogs, gardening, walking and writing, of course.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was so lucky to have parents who read to me from little on up. But I really fell in love with books about age ten. This is also when I started writing. I used to watch my favorite TV shows, and then I’d rewrite the episode inserting myself as a young character. Great fun! Even from that early age, my dream was to write middle grade novels for kids.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is realistic fiction, but I also like light fantasy, and I read plenty of non-fiction as well. It’s hard to pin down my favorite authors, but mixing new and old, I’d have to include E.B. White, Wilson Rawls, S.E. Hinton, Bobbie Pyron, Kirby Larson, and Jennifer Nielsen.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
A Sliver of Sun is a sequel to my debut, A Smidgen of Sky. Smidgen features spunky 10 year old Piper Lee, a young Southern girl who is doing all she can to prevent her mother from getting remarried. It’s a lot of fun, but also delves into some heavy topics such as loss, grief, and step families, even internet safety. After its publication, a lot of young readers wrote to me asking, “What happens next? Do Piper Lee and Ginger find a way to get along? Does Ben forgive Piper for all her trouble making? Does Piper Lee find a way to fit into her new family?” There are so many step families today, and so many kids dealing with really complex emotional issues, and I was delighted to see that readers were able to relate to Piper Lee and her situation. I just had to write a follow up to answer all those heartfelt questions.

Because I’m a step mother myself, and the subject matter was close to my heart, neither Smidgen nor A Sliver of Sun took too long to write. But selling was a different story. It took me nearly six years to find an agent to represent my work, then it took another eighteen months for her to sell my book to Harcourt. In the mean time, I sold another middle grade, A Million Ways Home to Scholastic Press. But my agent and I decided to try self-publishing A Sliver of Sun, to get it out there faster, and also so I could try my hand at hybrid publishing.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a vegan educator, filmmaker and author the highly acclaim book The Interconnectedness of Life with foreword by Dr. Karen Davis, author and president of United Poultry Concerns. I grew up in Toronto, Canada and had a vegan awakening in 2009. In 2011 I was bearing witness looking into the eyes of the animals in trucks going off to slaughter. I couldn’t believe what I had seen and had to take my activism to a new level. These animals knew they are going to slaughter. They are not stupid. Everyone needs to bear witness, looking into the eyes of the innocent and to be their voice. Animals being the most defenseless, need our help. And I vowed to be their guardian for life.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I had the vegan awakening I wanted to describe the experience to everyone, I just didn’t know how. In August 2010 after months of contemplating, I started writing my book, The Interconnectedness of Life. I actually didn’t like books until I started awakening. As I became more spiritually aware of the world around me and all the suffering and destruction, I started to write down my thoughts and feelings of my life experiences. My story is unique, but at the same time it is a story that some people can relate to. Visiting the zoos and circuses and seeing animals suffer, the only difference between then and now is, I understand the what goes on behind the scenes. I understand what the animals go through, and I understand what it does mentally and physically to us as spiritual beings. It has changed my life and I am so thankful for being given the opportunity to experience it.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am really inspired by the animals. They taught me that in order to stop the suffering on this planet, we need to start with the beings that are most vulnerable, which is non-human animals themselves. I saw into their eyes and I knew I needed to help them, I know that in order to save ourselves we need to stop seeing them as property and food. It is that simple. Dr. Will Tuttle the author of the #1 amazon bestselling book The World Peace Diet has taught me a lot. He is my mentor, my dear friend and a fully enlightened being. He is a former Zen Buddhist monk and has been vegan since 1980. I few months after reading his book, listen to his audio and video recordings of his interviews and lectures I knew that his message was clear, in order for us to survive on Earth, we need to stop seeing animals as property and food. It was that simple. There is no way around it, and my book dives just into that.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Interconnectedness of Life is simply realizing that we are all interconnected and in order to be free and spiritually aware we need to see ourselves in all creatures. We won’t be truly free if we’re oppressing others. And others includes non-human animals as well. My book is just that, it goes into the heart and soul of the world’s dilemmas and gives a true solution, for us to be free, loving and compassionate. If we want to know what the meaning of life is and why we are so riffled with the problems of our own making, then The Interconnectedness of Life does that justice.

Featured Author D.A. Karr

authorFeatured Interview With D.A. Karr

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
D.A. Karr has been writing books and screenplays for ten years. Her experience comes from jobs ranging from fire fighting, law enforcement, IT Engineering, and a avid sci-fi buff. She doesn’t stick to one genre; she takes on sci-fi, thriller-mystery, historical fiction, and screenplays. She is the author of several books including Link, The Legend of Pendyne, and The Racehorse with Magic Shoes. The Legend of Pendyne won two literary awards. Ms. Karr has also written several screenplays, which placed in quarter round finals for three International contests. Holding a regular job in QA Engineering, she has the background in technology to take on difficult subjects. Quotes D.A. Karr, “Writing is the beast of one’s soul. Actors act, singers sing, but the words writers pen are the actors and singers.” – See more at: http://www.racehorsewithmagicshoes.com

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing seriously about 2005. I’m in the IT industry and it’s very dry. It became an outlet for extremism in self denial I guess, sort of a way to release emotions.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Steven King. Something mystery thriller. Doesn’t matter what genre. I do everything.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Link is the bi-product of what was once a screenplay, edited over and over, now a novel and thrilling twist on the good versus evil battle. Research was a key component to this book, it proved difficult to find weapon systems, swear words, names, abbreviations, places, and events that never existed. This is a book for all that sci-fi readers in particular will really be thrilled to see. The unwritten problem with sci-fi is, you have to outdo “Star Trek”, “Star Wars”, and other sci-fi giants, which has the market on this picky genre. You have to come up with something they haven’t done, which is almost impossible, until now. This isn’t your normal twist on “The Time Machine”. If you’re a sci-fi follower, then you understand what it takes and appreciate the thought and care that went into this novel. This plotline makes it incredibly qualified to succeed. This paired with attention to key elements and quality details will make it the leader in the industry.

As the Earth shifts on its axis, mankind is caught in a war of survival and time. Imprisoned in this time war, Captain John Garrick and the N.S.T.E.A. Phoenix becomes a pawn between technology, humans, and what’s left of civilization.

However, no amount of careful planning can prepare the time jumpers for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. As the N.S.T.E.A seals a deal to deliver time technology to the notorious outlaw, Menser, Garrick plots to undermine the N.S.T.E.A. Technology becomes the enemy and time an illusion as Phoenix’s crew prepares for the inevitable – a fight to the finish. The future can be uncertain; then again, it could be the time jumpers last. Garrick doesn’t live by its rules, and he knows one thing is for sure: kill or be killed. Tick, tick, tick…time liners never die, they never leave.

original-shot-from-joode-croppedFeatured Interview With Maggie Plummer

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan hearing about Montana almost every day. Both of my parents were from western Montana, but my dad decided to follow his career to Detroit. In 1984, after a lot of wandering around the United States working odd jobs but then finally finishing college, I moved to northwest Montana. I’ve been living here ever since. I love it, even though the winters are too long and too gray. I have one wonderful dog, a super-sweet black lab I rescued from our local animal shelter. Her name is Peaches because she is a peach of a doggie!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved to read, and have been fascinated with language in general. I began keeping a journal when I was a teenager. As a young adult, I dabbled in create writing — taking classes, joining writers’ groups, and attending workshops through the years. When I finally got a college degree, it was in journalism. The only reason I chose to major in journalism was because it is a marketable degree.

I always dreamt of being a novelist, but had to make a living. While needing to work full time, I have never had enough energy leftover to write. I don’t know how people do that!

After writing for newspapers and magazines for 25 or so years, I decided to semi-retire and write novels. Part of my inspiration to do this was stumbling across some amazing history I’d never heard of: 1650s Irish slavery. When I researched the topic, I realized that very little had been written about it. I thought, ah ha! This is my chance to write a unique historical novel!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is character-driven women’s fiction, although plenty of male authors are among my favorites. Pat Conroy, Wally Lamb. I adore reading Barbara Kingsolver, Toni Morrison, Anne Tyler, Anna Quindlen.

Who inspires me in my writing? I would say Harper Lee. What wonderful storytelling she did when she wrote TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
DARING PASSAGE: BOOK TWO OF THE SPIRITED AWAY SAGA is the much-awaited sequel to my award-winning first novel, SPIRITED AWAY – A NOVEL OF THE STOLEN IRISH.

The first book paints an intimate, compelling portrait of 1650s Irish slavery in the Caribbean.

DARING PASSAGE tells the rest of Irish slave Freddy O’Brennan’s tale.

It’s still 1656, and Freddy is on the run. Determined to protect her young children and keep her family together, she is tested more than ever as she navigates a choking gauntlet of greed, corruption, duplicity, and bloody violence.

Romantic sparks fly, then smolder, and ultimately threaten to explode.

DARING PASSAGE is a 70,000-word historical romance novel that captures a rare glimpse of life in the New World colonies of the seventeenth century.

New-HeadshotFeatured Interview With Gabriel Boutros

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in the ancient town of Cairo, Egypt, but I’ve lived most of my life in Montreal. Grew up and went to school here, worked as a defence attorney for 24 years here, got married and raised my two sons here. And I live and breathe with my favourite hockey team, The Montreal Canadiens!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been in love with books ever since I can remember, spending many a long, cold winter night bundled up with a good book. And it was also since a young age that I realized that I loved to write too. Silly little stories to entertain myself, before deciding to get a little more serious and getting a couple of short stories published, and now I’ve moved onto my second full-length novel.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I know it’s corny, but I love so many writers that it’s hard to say I have a favourite. I grew up on Stephen King and Charles Dickens. I read everything ever written by Frank Herbert and Joseph Conrad. Raymond Chandler or Margaret Atwood. Philip K. Dick, or Ian Rankin.

As you can see, I have no preferred genres, or writers. Maybe it depended on how old I was at the time, or what was going on in my life, but I’ve fallen in love with books by all these writers and many others.

I think what I love about their writing is their ability to tell captivating stories; each in their own style and different genres, but always gripping, always making me feel a little sad when the stories end.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel is called Face/Mask. It’s a drama set set in Montreal in the year 2039. Like most major cities, the air is poisonous due to unregulated industrial expansion around the globe. The war on terror has been going on for nearly forty years, with no end in sight. A few years earlier a small nuclear bomb was detonated on Canadian soil by a fringe terrorist group. This led to the American government sending in military advisers to help combat the spread of terrorism. Soon a militaristic administration was established, which curtailed civil rights and clamped down on dissent.

The main character is Allen Janus: everyone thinks he is a good husband and father, and a respected government official. But, despite having a good job and a wife and children who love him, he is dissatisfied. He finds little meaning or happiness in what he views as a monotonous life. He will do anything and lie to anyone to find some excitement to get him through his empty days. The physical decay of the world around him is reflected in his own decaying morality, and he leads a double life, gambling heavily and spending much of his time with a prostitute.

At home, he is faced with a relative who is well-loved and respected by everyone who knows him, creating feelings of resentment in Janus. In a moment of petty vindictiveness Janus informs on this man to the authoritarian government, getting him arrested and unintentionally turning the attention of the military police on to his whole family. He has to overcome his own weak character, as well as the secret life that he must keep hidden, in order to save everyone from the web of deceit that he created.

It took me about a year or so to write Face/Mask, although this was in two blocks of about six months. In between those two blocks of time I was simply stuck for many months, because I just didn’t know where I wanted the story to go. Finally got it done and I’m quite proud and happy with the final result.

Featured Author N.M Sotzek

NicholeBen-012-Copy-500x472Featured Interview With N.M Sotzek

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada and I still live there with my husband. I have a B.A Honours in Near Eastern Archaeology and Medieval Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, which is actually where I met my husband. Despite that distraction, I still did pretty well.

Unfortunately there are no pets in our house, but my husband and I love animals which is actually how my first novel came into being.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had my nose in a book which I think led to my eventual love of writing. My aunt is also an author and I suppose I’ve always looked up to her. That introduced me to the world of writing and publishing at a very young age. I began by writing poems in elementary school, then short stories in high school. University acclimated me to writing longer pieces, so it only makes sense that once I graduated I completed my first full-length novel.

Honestly, I’m still fascinated with books, whether I’m the one reading or writing. There’s something so wonderful about them, about the concept that marks on a piece of paper or electronically that can give you such vivid dreams and memories. I hope someone can say that my writing did that for them someday.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I think it’s easier to list who I don’t like to read. It’s a much shorter list! But if I have to choose…I really enjoy Garth Nix and David Gemmell. Both have such unique stories and voices. Gemmell writes (or wrote, as he has sadly passed) these characters that make you want to hate them, but you can’t because they’re so amazing. It’s infuriating. In a good way.

I love to read science-fiction and fantasy, and especially historical fiction even though I’m extremely picky about it. With my academic background, I’m a bit more critical of certain time periods. For the record, people, the term is: pot sherd. Not shard. Shard is for glass. Sherd is for ceramics.

Emily Bronte is my biggest inspiration, and always has been. She was able to create such wild characters (can you tell what I find important in a novel?) with simply her imagination. From what I know of her life, there wasn’t too much excitement, so the fact that she created such tortured souls such as Heathcliff and Cathy is just astounding. She got so far down into the depths of humanity, it was and will continue to be a goal to aspire towards.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
‘Revealing the Revolution’ is like nothing you’ve ever read before. You might read the first few pages and think “oh, this sounds familiar” but there’s also this sense of something else. It’s not the typical science-fiction novel that awes you with its cool technology. No. ‘Revealing the Revolution’ delves into what our society and culture in North American transforms into when new technology is introduced. In this case, the new technology is a type of artificial intelligence that, powered by a small hand-held device, can transform into any animal. Imagine being able to ride an elephant, or snuggle up with a bear cub and not get hurt! I could have that pony I always wanted but never got…

The story focuses on one particular aspect: a new sport called Scanning. Using the new types of AI, known as Artificial Intelligence Morphers (AIMs) athletes work in teams to complete challenges resembling extreme sports. Mountain climbing, cliff diving, ocean kayaking, it has it all! These athletes need to be well-rounded in pretty much everything, but at the same time need to be able to work with both humans and animals. It’s a unique story of bringing humanity into harmony with nature…even if it is artificial.

The initial concept was developed by my husband when he was just a child. We worked on it together for a short while before he gave me full creative control. The entire process took roughly four years, from when I was given control to the publication date. Four years with these character was nowhere near long enough, so I began the sequel and am now working on the final installment of the trilogy.

P1010516Featured Interview With Eugenio Salvato

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Sheffield, United Kingdom in 1966. A son of Italian immigrants, I grew up in the 1980s when computers were “the future”. Against my better judgement I embarked on a career in computing. A career that was financially rewarding, but personally demanding. With more money than I could spend, and no time to spend it, I decided enough was enough. At the age of forty, I gave it all up. For the next seven years I focused on pursuing my interests and making up for lost time. The years passed quickly… and allowed plenty of time for reflection.

One day, I woke up and realized.

“It’s time… I need a new challenge.”

I decided I owed it to myself to pursue something I wanted to do. Something I enjoyed doing. I wanted to make a contribution. I wanted to make my mark. But what was that something I wanted to do? I only knew it wasn’t computing. I delved deep into my psyche, and searched for an answer. Months went by, but without result. Then, one day, it struck me. As an aspiring young man, I dreamed of becoming a writer, but somehow allowed others to discourage me. I failed to follow my calling…

Until now.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Books and Films have always fascinated me. It started with children’s comics like the Beano, and progressed to superhero comics by DC and Marvel. Every week, I would spend my entire pocket money on comics, and would read them over and over until I was able to replenish my supply. I remember, my favorite superheroes were Thor and Captain America. But, in truth, I loved them all.

Eventually, I graduated to novels. The very first book I read was Treasure Island. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. I was completely captivated by the story. It opened up a whole new world to me. I remember the feeling of disappointment when I finished the book. I refused to be torn away. So, I read the book all over again. It had a profound effect on me. For a long time after, I was hooked on books.

It never really occurred to me that I could write a story of my own. Nobody really encouraged me as a child. Although at school, I remember, it was one of the few subjects that I was good at. And at the age of 16, I decided I wanted to become a journalist. A sports journalist to be precise. But I was advised against it, and I was too young to know better than to comply.

So, it wasn’t until I was well into my forties that I realized I wanted to write.

So, here I am. Writing.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
One of my favorite authors is Charles Dickens. I love his stories, but most of all I love his characters. His characters are memorable. His characters are vivid. His characters are larger than life. Sometimes over the top, but never forgettable.

Another favorite author of mine is David Gemmell. For me, a story must have heroes, and plenty of them. On that front, David Gemmell always delivers. And for me, a story should always be thrilling. And nothing is more thrilling than a good action scene. Once again, David Gemmell delivers in abundance.

I would say those two authors have had the biggest influence on my style. I strive to create memorable characters. Always heroic in their own way. Most of the time flawed. A lot of the time conflicted. But you’re always rooting for them.

As far as genres go, it’s difficult to say. It’s a bit like asking, “What’s your favorite music?” If I was pushed, I would lean towards Heroic Fantasy. But in truth, a good story is a good story irrespective of the genre. I’ve read all kinds of books, ranging from the Classics, to Science Fiction, to Heroic Fantasy. As far as writing goes, I don’t like to restrict myself to a single genre either. To date, I have written a Heroic Fantasy novel set in ancient Rome, and a Detective Mystery Thriller set in modern-day England. As for my latest book, it crosses a number of genres.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I like to write about the human condition, how people deal with internal and external conflict, and how the line between right and wrong—good and evil—is often blurred.

My first book, Blood Feud, is set against the backdrop of gladiatorial combat. The story is about two brothers with conflicting ideals and opposing fighting styles. It explores how people often justify wrongdoing in the name of a “noble” cause. And how they’re willing to sacrifice everything in the pursuit of that aim.

My second book, Driven to Kill, is set in modern-day England. The story depicts a deadly rivalry between a master criminal and a journeyman detective. It explores how unhealthy fixation can often spiral out of control, and how none of us really know what we’re truly capable of, until we’re faced with an impossible choice, especially when the life of a loved one is at stake.

My latest book, Runners, is set against the backdrop of an apocalyptic wasteland. It tells the story of an ancient people’s battle for survival. The story explores how sworn enemies are able to set aside their differences to achieve a common goal. But how they must first learn to overcome their prejudices, and forgive past wrong-doings, in order to achieve their aims.

I don’t want to give too much away, but there are five different threads to the story. Each thread follows a different band of heroes, each hero is trying to achieve a different goal. A goal that is very dear to them. It goes without saying, they all stand in each other’s way, and are on a collision course. Not all of them will succeed.

My latest book is my biggest challenge to date. The plot is complex, and there’s a lot to resolve. I’ve been working on it for ten months now, and I’m at the editing stage. I’m hoping it will be published by February 2015.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in a small English town just outside of Oxford, and in May 2014 I moved to California. I now live in the beautiful East Bay.
I sometimes get asked “why would a guy from England write a book on Hip Hop?” and my answer is in the introduction to the book.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
R.L Stine’s Goosebumps series were the first books I remember buying and reading. I must have been 10 years old, and can remember sitting in my bedroom for entire weekends gripped to his books.
I’d use his writing style as the blueprint for my own writing in school, and can remember always receiving teacher praise for the level of detail in stories. That’s when I realized to be a great writer the first (and maybe most important step) is to read a lot.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love J.K. Rowling’s books (speaking specifically about her post H.P. novels like The Casual Vacancy). I have read few authors who can craft an engaging story as she. (Maybe I also have some childhood nostalgia associated with her.)

Catch 22 is another favorite of mine – pure genius how it weaves together the lives of so many characters in a hilariously engaging way.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“How It All Got Started: Lessons in Life, Art and Entrepreneurship from Hip Hop Icons”is my baby.

It’s the story of how what it takes to achieve ‘success’ in any calling, told through the lyrics and lives of Hip Hop icons.

The book goes into 23 principles, which range from creativity to romantic relationships, from maintaining tunnel vision focus to dealing with negative people, and also features four in-depth biographies of major Hip Hop icons (Kanye West, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem).

The book represents the combination of my two biggest interests: Hip Hop and Entrepreneurship. I have worked on a number of entrepreneurial ventures in the past whilst Hip Hop always provided the soundtrack. The principles discussed are partially based on my own experiences in the worlds of business and art.

The book has taken about 20 months to complete – during that period practically all my time was devoted to the book. The process for writing involved collecting, analyzing and organising hundreds of sources (from my own interviews, to books, documentaries, recorded interviews and even concert performances).

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Prescott,AR ….a small town 15 miles away from Hope, which is where former President Clinton was born. I’m married with two children, ages 16 & 10.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I became fascinated with books when I was about 11. I was a total bookworm throughout my childhood. As for writing, that came later…once I was in high school and boys came into play. You know, you had little crushes on guys, but I was too shy to tel them, so I would write in diaries or make up little stories about them…

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am a fan of so many authors, but some of my favorites are Electa Rome Parks, Angie Daniels, and Allison Hobbs. Like these ladies, I prefer writing in the erotic romance genre. There is never a lack of material when writing erotica or romance novels. These authors as well as Zane and Carl Weber have been my inspirations for writing. The characters they create literally make you feel as if you know them personally…you can definitely relate to their subject matter.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel is entitled Masquerade:Nina’s Revenge. The plot centers around pampered housewife, Nina Montgomery, who gets the shock of her life when her husband announces on their 20th anniversary that he’s leaving her for her best friend. She’s heartbroken and vows to get back at the both of them for betraying her…her revenge plot involves seducing their handsome 21 year old son. But you know, sometimes trying to get revenge on a person can backfire…which is what happens in the end. It took me a little over a month to complete the manuscript because I kept going back and adding more details. Once I finished, I started another project and came up with a better ending that what I’d already written, so I went back and re-wrote the last chapter. My readers have all said this is my best book to date, so I’m glad I went back and changed the ending.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Jim Heskett was born in the wilds of Oklahoma, raised by a pack of wolves with a station wagon and a membership card to the local public swimming pool. Just like the man in the John Denver song, I moved to Colorado in the summer of my 27th year, and never looked back. Aside from an extended break traveling the world, I haven’t let the Flatiron mountains out of my sight.
He writes what he calls “suspense books,” and like to mix elements such as mystery with wilderness survival, or mix post-apocalyptic epic with espionage thriller. He doesn’t care about genre labels, and tries to write books that are exciting and thought-provoking, while being a little bit funny and full of plot twists.

Details at www.jimheskett.com

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I fell in love with writing at the age of fourteen with a copy of Stephen King’s The Shining. Poetry became my first outlet for teen angst, then later some screenplays, and eventually short and long fiction. In between, I worked a few careers that never quite tickled my creative toes successfully, and haven’t ever forgotten about Stephen King. You can find me currently huddled over a laptop in an undisclosed location in Colorado, dreaming up ways to kill beloved characters.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Right now, I’m big on Neil Gaiman, Max Barry, and Brandon Sanderson. I read everything from campy Jack Reacher to navel-gazing literary works. Variety is the spice of life, no?

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My novel, Reagan’s Ashes, will be out in early 2015. It’s half wilderness survival, half mystery. It’s the story of a young woman who hikes into Rocky Mountain National Park to spread her father’s ashes, but there’s something in the urn that could get her killed.

Until it comes out, I recommend you check out my short story collection, ABANDONED. It’s three tales of strippers, cocaine binges, unrequited love, and building LEGO helicopters.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Cheshire, England with two siblings and wonderful parents. I moved to Colwyn Bay, North Wales in about 1986/7. It was during my time here that I broadened my horizons and travelled to New Zealand on my own via Los Angeles to visit my Uncle, Aunt and cousins. It was during this holiday I met my husband to be.

My husband is a friend of my youngest cousin. We met, fell in love and married. At this stage we lived in Palmerston North, New Zealand, later moving to Rotorua. We have three out of four beautiful children, losing our youngest to complications. We have two cats, who don’t like each other, they they eat together without much fuss.

For the last 15 yrs I have been a stay at home mum, focusing on my children. I also do Family History Research and write novels.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I must have been about 12 yrs old when I discovered reading. After which I absorbed stories all weekend and most evenings, my favourites been Enid Blyton, C S Lewis, Captain W E Johns along with A A Milne and many more.

I never knew I could write fiction, it was an accident waiting to happen and didn’t actually happen until 2012. It was during a lapse in family research, waiting for information to put into a book when i opened a word document and started to write. Three chapters later I sent it to two good online friends who then demanded more. Though the novel is finished it is still waiting to be published. The story is based in late Regency England. Starting with a destitute widow and her first love. As they try and get each other to fall in love a mystery unfolds.

Since that time I have written and published six novels and two short stories.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favourite authors since I became an adult are :- Colin Forbes, Clive Cussler, Lee Child, J D Robb, Nora Roberts, Linda Fairstein. I could go one.

As you can see I like my thrillers and murder mysteries with a bit of adventure and historical content. I presume these are the genres i enjoy the most.

I am not sure what or who inspires me to write. I just let my fingers flow over the keyboard and say what they wish. My characters grow as the books do. I have no idea where the stories come from, though I do know for one.

I have started a draft thriller, it was the first thing my fingers decided to write after NaNoWriMo, I’d had a few ups and downs and this literally poured out. The novel is going nicely and after another unwanted negative encounter it is growing steadily. I love the idea though you can turn anyone into something in your books.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
I love my latest book. It is adorable and for young children of all ages. It was written for parents, grandparent or babysitters to read to little ones or for those who children who are good readers at an early age.

The book is called “Girlie and the War of the Wasps.” It is set in a garden with many different insects and animals working together to do good things.

The main character is Girlie, she is a bright blue ladybug who sees her best friend kidnapped, carried off by nasty wasps. She follows, and her adventure begins. First is the rescue, then there is the quest to stop the nasty wasps. It all falls down to diet and what they eat and what they should eat. Girlie meet many different characters along the way.

This draft novel has been read to a group of twelve 5yr olds. I have been told they listened to the whole story without a sound until the very end where they said “Awwww.” This story has also been read by two young brothers and a few parents to children. Everyone enjoying it.

The book cover which I did the concept drawing for is hopefully going to be displayed at our local library along with other copies coloured in by children from a local primary school. When the book is finally published we will have a book launch at the same library. I am greatly looking forward to this exciting time.

The book is just over 12,000 words and wraps up leading into another book which is part written. Each book will have a educational idea, be it diet, biting, kicking, bullying. Below is the prologue.
Girlie Ladybug was the youngest daughter of Ma and Pa Ladybug. Like the rest of the family she was a lush blue colour with black spots on her back. She was often teased by her siblings for having less spots and for been so small. She was always lagging behind when they went hunting for aphids.

Girlie was a lovely ladybug, happy and sunny in personality with never a bad thing to say about anyone, not even her siblings. She’d just smile and carry on with her chores.

One day Girlie got so far behind she lost track of her ma and pa. Not that she overly worried, everyone knew her, waving and saying hello as she continued with her walk. She enjoyed smelling the flowers and talking to the bees and ants the most, she was a very social ladybug. Everyone was so friendly though you had needed to beware of the nasty wasps which hunted daily for the helpless or injured. One sting and they’d be dead.

The war of the wasps had been going on for many years. They were all waiting for a hero to be born to help them rid their world of these nasty creatures.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a Texas-born, Irish/Native American/Kentucky – bred relocate to Tennessee, a left handed Taurus, who loves all animals except for alligators. On my days off you will find me with my horses, perusing flea markets, or playing video games. I am addicted to bottled Coca-colas and chocolate chip cookie dough. I have dogs, cats, horses, and snakes– all rescues.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My mother read to me every night since I was old enough to know what was going on. We didn’t have much money, so going to the library was a big trip for us. I started writing young; my first published piece was in first grade, the school newspaper. I was six!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
That is almost impossible to answer because I love so many different types and styles of writing. Yeates, Salinger, D. Parker, F. Scott – I love them! I love Gore Vidal, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou. I love history, classic fiction, true crime, and I love looking at old pictures, old newspapers and magazines. I don’t have a favorite genre. Everything except sic-fi and romance. I was inspired by all of the above, and I love Erik Larson and Lowell Cauffiel when it comes to true crime. I don’t have an eBook reader because I love the smell and feel of books.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
“When Nashville Bled: the true stories of serial killer Paul Dennis Reid.” In the Spring of 1997, a serial killer held Nashville, Tennessee in an icy grip of terror. In February, he murdered two employees at a Captain D’s restaurant. In March, he struck a McDonalds just miles away, killing three people and maiming one. In April, he kidnapped and slaughtered two Baskin-Robbins employees. They called him “The Fast Food Killer” but his real name is Paul Dennis Reid, Jr. When he was caught and sentenced to seven death sentences, yet a new chapter began in the saga of one of the most heinous serial killers in our time, and the people whose lives he cut short.
The victims were reduced to being called “the victims of Paul Reid.” Until now. Here, for the first time, and with the approval of the family and friends, are the stories of those innocent people whose lives were ended far too soon. It is also the story of how a crime ripped a city apart.
A percentage of proceeds benefits the new Tennessee Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children. I was assisted by the families, friends, coworkers, and fellow students of those murdered.

MORGAN-Bio-pic-300-DPIFeatured Interview With Morgan St. James

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I lived in Chicago until I was thirteen and my parent moved to L.A. Remembering those chilly winds off the lake is why I don’t “do cold” today. After living in L.A. most of my life and traveling extensively, I settled in Las Vegas full time in 2012. Most people think of Las Vegas as “the Strip” but I live in a lovely residential community and believe it or not, it is quiet–very conducive to writing. My rescue dog Dylan always stakes out his spot under my desk.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
As far as fascination, I’ve been an avid reader from the time I was a kid. Most writers should be readers. Then in the 70s I wrote and illustrated my first and only children’s book, LaRue the Llama Helps His Mama, which was just released as a Kindle after about 36 years. LOL In the late 70s I wrote my first magazine article and went on to write many more. In the mid 90s my sister, Phyllice Bradner, and I teamed up to create the Silver Sisters Mysteries. The first one was originally published in 2006 and re-released in 2014. Since that first book, I’ve written 11 more and over 600 articles about the business and craft of writing. I co-host the Writers Tricks of the Trade show on Blog Talk Radio the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm PST/9:00 EST. All of the shows are archived for future listening.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love reading mysteries and thrillers with a touch of humor. Early on I was inspired by Mary Daheim. I also read The Cat Who books for awhile, but feared they were running out of corpses in that little town 40 miles north of nowhere. I love the sarcastic humor of Robert Crais’s Elvis Cole, and books by Michael Connelly, Vince DeMille and more. I guess you could say my tastes are eclectic in the choice of authors, because I like funny mysteries and also high-powered thrillers.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Rampaging Russians, Deadly Teapots, Twin Sleuths, Old Magicians and MURDER!
Twin sleuths Goldie and Godiva, the Silver Sisters, are at it again. This is the second book in the series, and this time they’re-tracking seven stolen teapots from Alaska to LA. To add to the fun, the twins’ eighty-one-year-old mother and uncle, Flossie and Sterling Silver who are former vaudeville magicians, get into the act! The Russian samovar teapots sell quickly, but people begin to die. We know (or think we know) the bumbling Dumkovsky brothers are at the bottom of the murders, but the question is “whydunit?” What makes those teapots worth killing for?

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I spent most of my K-12 education doodling stories and 500 page monstrosities that are forever locked away in a filing cabinet. After twelve years as an English and computer teacher in Texas, I retired from education to pursue writing full-time. As a military brat, I grew up all over, but I currently live in Seattle, WA with my husband and our three kitties, who enjoy lounging across the keyboard when writing deadlines approach.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t fascinated with books. Some of my earliest memories are me writing stories across the pages of other books at age three. The first “book” I ever wrote was called something like The Fish and the Lion. It was a children’s book published for the University of Florida as part of a case study on childhood literacy. I was six when I wrote it & seven when they published it. My first serious foray into writing was at the age of 12. I was in love with Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels, so I wrote a 450 page novel over the summer.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read most genres, though my favorites are science fiction, fantasy, & mystery. As far as authors go, I’m in love with the words of Patrick Rothfuss. That man can tell a seriously good story. I also enjoy Connie Willis and Neil Gaiman. All three of them inspire me as a writer—from their world building to the eloquence of their language, it all sticks in my brain and helps my creative synapses.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Amaskan’s Blood is an epic fantasy novel I wrote, but never thought would be published. Mainly because I was falling afoul of the “Is my story unique enough?” question, completely forgetting that every story has been told. It’s all about how you tell it. My own doubts were keeping this story hidden for a bit, but now that it’s here—I’m damn proud of it. Amaskan’s Blood only took me two months to write, but it took two years to revise and edit because Adelei is quite a vulnerable bad-ass. She wanted to shake some of those plot lines up.
Adelei was a master in her field, one of the feared Order of Amaska. Those who were a danger to the Little Dozen Kingdoms wound up dead by her hand. The Order sends her deep into the Kingdom of Alexander, away from her home in Sadai, and into the hands of the Order’s enemy.

The job is nothing short of a suicide mission, one serving no king, no god, and certainly not Justice. With no holy order to protect her, she tumbles dagger-first into the Boahim Senate’s political schemes and finds that magic is very much alive and well in the Little Dozen Kingdoms.

While fighting to unravel the betrayal surrounding the royal family of Alexander, she finds her entire past is a lie, right down to those she called family. They say the truth depends on which side of the sword one stands. But they never said what to do when all the swords are pointing at you.

Amidst her enemies, in a land from the darkest reaches of her past, she must decide if she is to be more than another brainwashed puppet. No matter her choice, she must fight to do what is just and right to save the people of the Little Dozen.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Born in another country, but lived here most of my life. I live in Florida. I have a cat and a large aquarium.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always loved to read, primarily mysteries and horror. I also love a good romance.

I didn’t start writing until Fall 2013.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Love Laurann Dohner’s New Species books. Valiant is my favorite book.

My husband is my inspiration.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
This book is unlike most romance/erotica because it presents his point of view as well as hers as their story unfolds. It makes some readers insane because they are not used to it, while others love the change in perspective. I love writing this way because I like to get into other people’s heads. Below is the book blurb:

“The man wants to seduce you with words. The wolf wants to throw you over my shoulder, take you to my bed and pleasure you until you say you are mine.”

-Lucien, Alpha of the Last Hope Werewolf Pack

From the moment Lucien, Alpha of the Last Hope Werewolf pack, sees Lanie, he knows she is his. Overtly sexual by nature, Lucien pursues Lanie, undeterred by the fact that she is Human and their union is forbidden.

When she encounters an Alpha Werewolf determined to have her, Lanie is flattered and confused. The unworldly, innocent Lanie is terrified of her intense desire for Lucien.

Lanie soon discovers the patriarchal nature of Werewolf society and begins to question Lucien’s motives. Is the lustful Lucien only intrigued by the idea of sex with a Human or is he interested in something more? Can this modern woman tolerate the old fashioned notions of Werewolf culture or will their cultural differences keep them apart?

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Latest book? I have three latest books! I have “self-published” as Winds of Change, Life’s Twists
and Life In Space”. It took me about two years to come up with their titles.Below are their synopses and links.

Winds of Change

Synopsis

Winds of Change parades a matrix of stories, depicting the experiences
of people in different countries of the world and conveying their
situations as good, bad and ugly(at the discretion of the
reader/viewer). Not limited to location, background and status, the
airs of changes move in the direction of people in relationships, drug
dealing, religion, education and professionalism; affecting them
negatively or positively.

http://ebg247.com/bookdisplays/winds-change

Life’s Twists

Synopsis

Life’s Twists parades a series of stories that conveys the influence
of ‘twists’ in the lives of people; negatively and positively. This
collection of story titles shows changes in the fates of people who
ought to have reaped what they have sown but, in the process, make
others suffer the good or evil of the same fates or better yet,
situational twists. In other words, what ordinarily should be the case
of sowing and reaping by those who engendered them becomes the cross
of the ‘innocent’! It agrees with Mark Rucksayer: “our universe is
made of stories, not atoms”.

http://ebg247.com/bookdisplays/lifes-twists

Life In Space

Synopsis

What becomes of you after what ought to be a nine years of travel in
space became ninety years? Kyle, the lead astronaut, was no doubt a
victim of this ugly circumstance. The Three Musketeers, a they were
known over the world, traveled through the eight other planets to
encounter completely different situations. After he and his team
(Michael and Stanley) landed the earth from his spaceship, he was
really left with nothing other than to say: “facts are stranger than
fiction” How did they survive through the ninety years of sojourn in
the planetary worlds? What became of them?
