Featured Interview With Patty Seitz

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m from Akron, Ohio, now live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was a medical transcriptionist for 37 years, writing professional articles and newsletters throughout my career. When the school closed where I was teaching, I decided to pursue full-time writing and published my first novel in May of 2014 and now working on my second novel, target date February 2015. My husband and I are dog people, rescuing dogs whenever we can. My genre (at least for these first 3 books) is family saga, romance.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I developed a love of reading around 8 years old when my grandmother gave me Little Women. I still have it, signed by her. Also Nancy Drew was a favorite. I started writing during my professional career as a medical transcriptionist, and I started my novel writing in 2013.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I don’t have a specific favorite author. I love all types of genre, from mystery and thriller to old-fashioned romance. I love a story that spans several generations. I also enjoy reading biographies of historical figures and old-time actors, such as Bette Davis, Clifton Webb, stars from the 30s and 40s. I’ll admit it–I’m a Potter and Twilight fan, too!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first book, A Life Unplanned, is based on the life of my mother. She had a secret she took with her to her grave that her children found out about after her death. Her death was also a heartbeaking mystery that will never be solved. She was a single parent in the 1950s and 60s when it was practically taboo to say you were a single parent. She went through many difficulties during her life, but got through it all with grace, humor, and strength. The characters are fictionalized, but the events are real.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a happily married, successful career woman, writer and executive assistant from the Philippines. These are the labels that define me. I’m a lover of the written word and express myself best through my writing. I find that my passion lies in sharing the wisdom I gained from my life experiences, in the hopes that others will find value in my work. Most of my upcoming eBooks are in the Non-Fiction, Self-Help categories.

In my spare time, I love my TV series marathons with my husband. I enjoy snorkeling and just being near the ocean. It’s uplifting. So, it wouldn’t be surprising that I’d have 3 red-eared turtles as pets!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember a time when books weren’t a part of my life. I’m a voracious reader! My first introduction to the written word was when I started writing poems 20 years ago. That compilation was the first book that I published, In Loving You: A Journey of Love and Self Discovery. It felt right that I should start my writing career with my first compositions.

I’ve been blogging for a while now, I have 4 blogs actually! I believe in conversations and my books have that tone. I speak directly to my reader and share my points of view and experiences, in the hopes that it might be useful to them on their own journeys.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I have an eclectic taste in books. Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead played a big part in my intellectual development. I’m a little bit of a rebel who hates conforming just to please people. I read everything except history. I prefer watching them as documentaries!

I love Anne Rice, Arthur Clarke, Stephen King -oh they’re too many to mention!

Life inspires me to write. There are many tales to tell. When I write about something, it’s like passing on nuggets of wisdom. I’d like to think of my words as my immortality. Something to let the world know that I was here, and that I lived!

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book will be released end of January of early February. It’s the 2nd of my Now What? Series entitled, You want to be an ONLINE FREELANCER.. Now What? It’s meant to be a template that everyone can follow if they want to venture into Online Freelancing. I share proven strategies based on my own successful freelancing career. More importantly, I share insights on how someone can succeed in this business.

The 1st book of the Now What? Series is about relationships and marriage. It’s entitled, You’re Getting Married Soon… Now What? In this book, I urge couples to ask each other questions that will give them a peek into their future lives. Who is the person they’re marrying? Do they have the same viewpoints? Most relationships fail because of unrealistic expectations and wishful thinking. It’s best not to leave it to chance and just ask.

Tony-RichesFeatured Interview With Tony Riches

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a full time writer living by the sea with my wife in Pembrokeshire in Wales, UK, one of the most unspoilt areas of the UK. In my spare time I enjoy sea kayaking and sailing on the River Cleddau.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I used to write regularly for magazines and started writing non-fiction books before tacking my first novel in 2012. It’s called ‘Queen Sacrifice’ and was inspired by the idea of bringing a real chess game to life, with the whole of Wales as the ‘chessboard’ and thirty-two characters, kings and queens, bishops, knights and pawns, each with an interesting back-story. (I actually had to invent a few wives and female relatives, as there are of course only two female roles on a chess board.)

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy reading all genres and particularly historical fiction. One of my favourite authors is Anne O’Brien. I really admire the way she makes me think harder about our history and evokes a real sense of time and place. It was Anne who sparked my interest in the fifteenth century, so I always look out for her new books.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My Latest novel is another historical fiction called ‘The Secret Diary of Eleanor Cobham’. This is the first book to be written about the life of Eleanor Cobham, so I felt a great responsibility to make sure it was as factually correct as possible. My wife and I visited Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey and stood in the chapel where she would have prayed over five hundred years ago. I also went to a lot of trouble to understand what life was like in fifteenth century England and Wales, including what they ate and what it would have been like to be imprisoned in castles.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I started writing at the age of seven and have been doing it to this very day. Apart from reading and writing, you can also find me practicing yoga, as I have developed a keen interest in self-improvement, spirituality and becoming a better human being.
I was born and currently live in Bulgaria. That’s a country in East Europe, next to Greece. Bulgaria has a very beautiful nature and if you are wondering about a vocation place, I urge you to visit my country. The people here are also very kind and friendly.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I consciously decided to be an author when I was nine years old. I started writing at the age of seven . At that time I was already a book worm. My first novel was The Black Weekend – an adventurous suspense very influenced by Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn’s stories.
As a kid, I wrote mainly crime, thrillers and action-adventure novels. When I was nine I felt my calling was to be a story- teller. There is an anecdote from my life that I always remember when I go back to these days. One day, back when I was a kid, I was in class and our teacher gave us the task to write on a piece of paper what we wanted to become when we grew up. One of my schoolmates suggested that we should write down that we didn’t want to grow up; that we wanted to remain what we were then. She was urging me heavily to do it but what I wrote on my piece of paper was “I want to become a writer”. I knew I was already one. The teacher explained to us she was collecting all those paper pieces so that if one day she saw any of us and asked “What have you become?”, she would be able to show us our answers.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Recently I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and I loved it. I am currently reading The Immortal Circus by A. R. Kahler and The Beam by Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant. I don’t have one single favorite genre. I like YA fantasy and science fiction. I also enjoy writing criminal and suspense stories and believe in unity in diversity. In my opinion, the best books and stories are a crossover between genres.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first (yet) published work is The Wishing Coin – a fairy tale/fantasy novella. The idea for it came one early morning when I was heading to work. Looking out the bus window, I saw a female TV reporter and two cameramen waiting to begin a live broadcast. The TV reporter was discussing something with the cameramen.
The revelation hit me: “I will write a short story about a TV reporter. She will work at Good Morning America (Later I changed it to Good Morning USA to avoid legal issues) and she will be struggling to get more screen time.”
As the day went on, I came up with some more: She’ll fail to be promoted to have her own TV show, and her ex will start dating the rival reporter who stole her slot. I began with the first tragedy following the famous three-act tragedy structure. I didn’t have the whole story outlined yet, but I had something better — the energy that would let me write and finish the story. Later that night I came up with more scenes. The TV reporter would meet a strange vendor who’d sell wishing coins on the street. The protagonist would buy the most powerful one; the one that fulfills all wishes, no matter what they are. My idea was to present three different pictures: in the first, the protagonist is unhappy; in the second, she has everything she wishes for — the dream job, the wonderful boyfriend, etc; and in the last, her desire for control and power corrupts her. The character’s wishes have a harmful effect on the people around her and she regrets that she bought the coin.

Featured Author Ayana Prende

zYlPZ0WFeatured Interview With Ayana Prende

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m Ayana Prende, an author of romance and erotic literature. I was born and bred in the south east of England, which is where, some thirty years later, I still live. I do, however, love to travel. And, when circumstance permits, I’d love to move abroad – preferably to a much warmer climate!

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been in love with books since I first learned to read. Apparently (I was too young to remember), my grandparents used to say that, at the age of three, I wanted a typewriter, because I’d decided to write. As my nana told it, they did buy me a children’s typewriter, and I was terribly disappointed to discover that you couldn’t just tap any old key; the typewriter didn’t actually write the story for you. Nowadays, I’ve exchanged the typewriter for a computer, but I still occasionally find myself tapping any old key and wishing the story would be written for me!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like to read a whole host of things, from classics like the Brontes, Jane Austen, Wilkie Collins and Victor Hugo, right through to Stephen King and Dan Brown. I do love historical fiction, so I’m also drawn to Hilary Mantel and Robert Harris. Reading ‘An Officer and a Spy’, although the themes of the novel have nothing to do with the themes of my own, did serve as inspiration for the “world” of my début novel.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
‘The Anatomy of Desire’ is a historical erotic/romance, set in late Victorian London. It’s told from the perspective of the recently married Katherine, whose deep-seated fears have rendered her unable to consummate her marriage. Eventually, her husband grows impatient and sends her to a Harley Street doctor. Katherine knows she will be diagnosed with “hysteria” and dreads the treatments she’s likely to endure. However, as her husband grows increasingly intolerant, she’s left with no option but to open herself to the stranger who promises he can help her.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am avid about books. 23rd is being published soon as I begin my third year as an indie author. I can’t take credit though because it is the readers whose vivid imaginations take the dreams and nightmares I put on paper and make them into the novels and I appreciate each one who has been so good to me and kept me going.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always wrote books but never tried to publish one until October of 2012 and now apparently I can’t stop.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read anything and everything and love the many new indie authors I have read. I was so pleased to find several reviewers comparing me to Stephen King who is my favorite because i get lost in his books and find myself reading them over and over again.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
A gradual decline will be out soon and is about a reporters steady decline as he interviews a serial killer. It has mystery, suspense and horror with a ending that I feel readers will enjoy

IMG_8352Featured Interview With Ian Schrauth

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Ian Schrauth, and I am a seventeen-year-old boy (Soon to be 18 as of 1/19/2015). I currently live in St. Louis with my family and i am still a resident there. I am still in High school, and i have Published two books.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized that i was fascinated with books in the eight grade, and decided to write my own. Turned out VERY bad for a beginner. Misspelled words, written in Microsoft’s notepad, unable to tell if there was an error in it…Ugly.
It wasn’t until my junior year of High School that i had my first book Published, “Powers in a teenage witch” and it was a HUGE accomplishment for me! Everyone was just shocked that I had a book published, and it even got news to the Yearbook team! I had gotten interviewed, but the article didn’t make it.
It wasn’t until a year later in the same exact month that my romantic novella came out, “Vacillating brown and Black”. They weren’t that surprised about that happening. probably because i did it once.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
MY favorite authors to read are Hannah Hoffmeister, Stephine Meyer, D. L. Miles, and Angela Content. Hannah is a sixteen-year-old author who has her forth book out as of October 2014, and Angela Content is a fourteen-0yar-old author who had her third book published (unknown what date)

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is about a Girl name Tammy Louis who, in the beginning, has a breakup from her boyfriend, Nick. Throughout the story, she meets two bops, and falls in love with both of them. It is her choice to decided who she will want to be with. The novella took about one moth to write, and it took two months to edit. It currently has a three out of five stars on Amazon, and it is avalable on B&N’s website, and amazon.com.

Featured Interview With D.L. Bishop

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’ve spent most of my life in Louisiana. I’m originally from the New Orleans area but now live in the Lafayette area, where I’m a full-time police detective. My family has one four-legged member, Gus, who is an 11-year-old chocolate/tan dachshund.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved to read and probably wrote my first story in the third grade. As I grew up, responsibilities happened and I didn’t write at all. But as the years went by, ideas developed and tried to find a way out. Writing a novel became a goal and one that I finally accomplished last year.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors include Dean Koontz, Elmore Leonard and Joseph Wambaugh. My favorite genres are thrillers and mysteries. Lots of people inspire me. I try to learn as much as I can from people and hopefully that comes through in my writing.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first novel, The Bold and the Free, is a modern police thriller told from the perspective of patrol officers. I started writing it about three years ago when I was in the patrol division. Like running a marathon or losing weight, my goal was to finish a novel. It took a great deal of research, learning and trial and error, but I accomplished my goal just before the end of the year.

I felt passionate about telling a positive story about police officers and the real challenges they face. Constant negativity about law enforcement in the news made me even more determined to show why I got into this line of work. I also got tired of reading books involving morally corrupt cops as characters. I wanted my story to be on the other end of the spectrum. There’s a Christian theme throughout. The following is the book’s synopsis:

Wade Boudreaux loves his life as a dedicated patrol officer and bachelor. Brash and outspoken, he’s a rising young star in his south Louisiana police department. But when Wade stops a massacre from happening at a school, his world is shaken in ways he couldn’t imagine. An unseen enemy arrives and unleashes a deadly form of revenge. In order to survive, Wade must learn to put his trust in mysterious and perhaps supernatural forces he doesn’t understand. Gripping and action-packed, THE BOLD AND THE FREE captures the heart of those sworn to serve and the bonds between their badges.

Donna_Brown_Dec2014Featured Interview With Donna Brown

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and have since lived all over the country. I now live in Barnsley, South Yorkshire with my husband, Dave, and our six rescue cats. Our cats – Mr Kain, Razz, Buggles, Charlie, Bilbo and Frodo – have inspired us in many ways, so we began writing our Feline Central book series in 2012.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Like most writers, I’ve been writing for many years and started as a kid. I started with poetry and short stories. More recently I’ve begun writing novellas. I love short fiction and novellas offer a great opportunity to develop characters more fully, while still presenting a concise, compelling story.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love Stephen King, John Grisham, Terry Pratchett, Roald Dahl, Sophie Hannah. Too many to mention and covering a lot of the genres! I enjoy thrillers but I’m just as happy to dive into non-fiction or romance or short stories.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Playing House is a novella featuring a couple going through a divorce. On paper they have one last loose end to tie up. In reality, there are a lot of dangling threads. The question is whether those threads will finally unravel or if there’s enough love left to allow them to reconnect.

This was a hard book to write because I loved the characters and really felt for them, even though I was the one putting them through hell! Ultimately, though, I think that made it a better book. I want my characters to be flawed, it doesn’t work if they’re too saintly, but at the same time I want people to feel for them when they have to face tough situations.

avatar_thumbFeatured Interview With Faye Hall

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a published author of Historical Erotic Romance eBooks with Red Sage Publishing. I am originally from a small farming town in North Queensland, Australia, which is also where all my books are set. I am happily married to my childhood sweetheart and we have 9 children.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved books and reading, an attribute encouraged by my parents. As we didn’t have much money growing up I was always encouraged to find ways to pass the time away from the TV and encouraged to indulge any creativeness I chose.

I guess I chose writing because it gave me an escape away from the real world around me. My stories enabled me to create a world full of mystery and drama that always ended happily ever after.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Though I do have a few favorite authors, I am open to reading nearly any author that creates Historical romances.

My inspiration to write my own manuscripts comes from those closest to me – my family. My husband is a constant inspiration and source of my creativeness, as too are my children who are always excited to hear about any of my books that have been picked up for publication. My parents too have, and still are, a constant, both encouraging me and supplying me with whatever historical facts about my home town I may need.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, which is due out in a few months, is Mistress of Purity. It is actually the first ever book I wrote, the first draft of it being finished in my senior year of high school, some 15 years ago. It has since been rewritten several times.

The main characters in Mistress of Purity are head strong and stubborn, but they each have a soft side and a need to be loved. Here’s a brief insight:-

Prue had seen something the night her father was murdered – something that would forever change her life…

…She had seen something that would continue to haunt her and follow her wherever she went.

When she had married the Earl of Malloy, Prue had hoped to be able to hide under his name and at his out of town estate.

What she had not thought was to become his son’s MISTRESS OF PURITY.

Gareth had sworn never to return to his father’s estate, not to the life he had once thought to have there.

He had hoped that the man he had grown in to was no longer hoping to find the love of a woman he knew could not possibly exist.

What Gareth had not wanted was to find his comfort in the arms of his father’s young wife…a woman he knew was hiding far more than just one secret from him.

Mistress of Purity also tells of another love story between two secondary characters, Rosie and Tommy, who took Prue in as a child and helped raise her as their own.

It truly is a beautiful story that I have put many tears into over the years.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I wrote my first story about the Pilgrims for an assignment in grade school. It was Thanksgiving and my teacher wanted a story and she wanted it illustrated. I was pretty proud of it. Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I find inspiration in everything, but reading good books really jazzes me to write. I love every genre, from George R.R. Martin, to Billy Graham. If it is in between covers, I want to read it.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, a common setting for my books, and I still live there. No pets, I’m not much of an animal person.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been reading since I was about four. I’ve always read ahead of my level, reading at college level by the time I hit fifth grade. Ironically, I also started writing in fifth grade. I was assigned a short story and the ideas kept coming, so I began writing books.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Anne Rice is my hands down all time favorite and the reason I started writing my books exactly how I wanted to write them instead of trying to stick with the status quo. She has been my biggest inspiration, because I simply love how her characters feel real. I get attached to them. Sherilyn Kenyon is another big inspiration to me, because her Dark Hunter series is so long with no ending in sight, and with spin off series, so I knew I was able to really let my first series fly as long as I want and I believe it’s possible t still keep fans interested.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is the sixth book in my Dragon Hunters series. The series has a mix of ancient gods, primarily Greek, with new gods of my own creation to incarnate other primordial forces. Of course there are shifters, witches, demons, Fae, and vampires to keep things going, and the latest book is about one of the most famous vampires of all time, commonly known as Dracula. This book is his love story, him finding his mate after a very long existence, and also having to face down an army of fallen angels to protect the Fae homeland and the non-fallen angels. He is a very interesting and dominating character, and he took his sweet time giving me his story to tell, but it turned out to be one of my steamier novels and I’m satisfied with it. It releases 1/26/15

I was raised in the Southeastern United States, and while I’ve lived elsewhere, I have returned home to the same small town where I was born. I live with my partner and our dog, Connor. He’s half Schnauzer and half Poodle and thinks he’s all Dragon.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My parents read me stories every day. I had a bedtime story every night. Both my parents were avid readers, and I can remember being very little and playing in the living room with my dad in his recliner and my mom on the couch, both of them reading, and I was thinking to myself, “I’ve got to figure out what’s so fascinating about these books of theirs.”

I was telling stories when I could talk. I had a big problem learning the difference between reality and my stories, actually. Oftentimes, if the story went better in my head, that’s how reality would get bent in the retelling, and I got in a lot of trouble for telling falsehoods when I was a kid.

When I learned how to write, I started committing those falsehoods to paper, and everything worked out just fine.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Oh, I read anything and anybody. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Craig Johnson, David Eddings, Anne McCaffery, George R.R. Martin, Margaret Atwood, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, Pat Conroy and the list goes on and on. They all inspire me; any good story has the potential to inspire one in me.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is MEET ME AT THE GATES. It’s a contemporary supernatural romance.

The idea actually came to me via a book journey, so to speak. I bought one book and there was a bookmark in it for another book. So I bought the second one, too, and that one turned out to be a graphic novel that was loosely based on a Japanese folk tale about a fox, a badger, a monk, and a raven. The graphic novel got me to thinking about what it’d be like to remember your lover across every lifetime you’d ever lived, and thus the plot of the book was born.

Initially, MEET ME AT THE GATES was called, “Fox and Monk.” The characters are named after the original inspiration, and the book also features a “badger” and a “raven.”

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am the author of The Tainted Accords series. Fantasy of Frost is the first title, which was published on January 14th 2015.

I grew up in Waikanae, New Zealand, a small town with one set of traffic lights and mainly people aged over 60. It has other names for this reason including, the place people go to die or the Gateway to Heaven. You get my drift. I have lived for three years in Melbourne, Australia and now I am all over the place travelling. My latest destination is the Shetland Islands and they are absolutely beautiful. I had a lot of pets growing up. We had a few acres so there were the dogs, the cats, pigs, sheep, as well as other, less welcome, animals such as possums and mice. We backed onto a nature reserve so we got all sorts. I am actually a qualified physiotherapist. This is what I’ve been doing in Melbourne. I also enjoy playing my piano, guitar and vocal chords.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I feel like I came out of the womb reading a book. I can’t remember the exact moment where I began to read, its just always been this way. I starting writing little bits and pieces in my teens and then studied writing for a couple of years, leading to my debut book, Fantasy of Frost!

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I just have so many. Jane Austen, JK Rowling and John Marsden are consistent favourites. But also Scarlett Dawn, Janet Evanovich, Laura Thalassa, Susan Collins.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Well! It is the second in my Tainted Accords series. It carries on from the cliff-hanger ending of Book One. Olina is put through more trials as she tries to prevent all our war between Glacium and Osolis. It is a coming of age fantasy. The first book took me around 5 months to write. This book should take me less time as I’m comfortable with the settings and the characters now.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, half a block from Tampa Bay. My dad taught marine biology, so I spent a lot of time with my feet in the water collecting shells or hunting sea critters. That was one of my favorite things to do. When I moved to central Florida, I missed the salt water, but here there are woods, so I enjoy hiking, kayaking and just being outdoors. My dog, an Australian Cattle Dog mix, goes on the trails with me. She’s been on the kayak a couple times as well, but that didn’t work out to be as relaxing for me as it should have been.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve always loved books. One of my favorites is still Go, Dog, Go! I think I always wanted write. What slowed me down was not feeling confident about what I had to say. Seems to me that as we grow older our views shift. We change. What would happen if I came out on one side of an issue in my writing and then my views changed as I learned more? I know, I was overthinking. I’ve gotten to the point where that doesn’t matter anymore.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love Jane Austen. So many people say that, but she’s my go-to on how to do a lot of things in a novel. For instance, and I love this about her stories, she never just drops a character into the story. She alludes to their existence at least once before they show up on stage so you feel like they belong. By the time Mr. Collins shows up, we’ve heard about the entail, received and dissected his letter, and can’t wait to see if he is really as pompous as he sounds. He’s a threat and thorn in the shoe, but we welcome him. Jane Austen is the master.
I read a wide variety of genres, and probably couldn’t pick a favorite.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Jaguar Key is a fantasy, but it’s different. It mixes a kind of dreamy romantic quality with a fast-paced adventure, the ancient with contemporary society. The main character is a shapeshifter Eternal, but I hope she comes across as a modern young woman with all the problems we face, just compounded to the extreme. She has to accept her past and herself to move forward in a big way.
Getting the balance of old and new just right was a huge challenge in writing the book. I wasn’t too concerned with sticking to genre conventions because I had this character in my head and I wanted to give her a voice.

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in the great city of Melbourne, Australia and still live there. It’s been voted the most livable city in the world on countless occasions and (in my opinion) is the sporting capital of the world. Right now I don’t have any pets but I’m a dog lover and get to walk and play with friends’ dogs regularly.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I always had a fascination with books but only started writing novels about ten years ago. In my business life I’d been CEO of a public company and before that a consultant to Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young). I’d done an awful lot of writing…just not novels.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
John Grisham has influenced me more than any other author. He is a wonderful story teller and The Firm is one of the all-time great novels. Stephen King has an unbelievable imagination and is a fine writer. The plots in The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption were amazing. Andrew Rule is an Australian author who has a wonderful way with words. His latest book, The Boy From Nowhere, the true story of a poor boy who left school at 14 and who is now a multi-billionaire television and property mogul is a must read. Finally, I enjoy James Patterson, but I don’t have him in the same league as the other three.
I love reading legal and business novels.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
Revenge Of The CEO is a follow up to The CEO but both are standalone novels. Revenge Of The CEO tells the story of a corrupt and despicable businessman who’s been too smart for the law, but is framed by two of the people he has hurt. Sentenced to 20 years in Changi he eventually finds a way to escape and vows to wreak vengeance on his enemies and those who framed him.
