Featured Interview With Wesley Robert Lowe
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Reading, writing and music has always been part of my life. When I was nineteen, I dropped out of college to play in a rock and roll band.
A few years later, I went back to school and got a Master’s Degree in Music and began composing for film and tv. Highlights include 4 seasons on Sesame St and composing music for Expo.
As a person of Chinese heritage, I wanted to see more stories and films that show us as part of the mainstream and started writing and making films. Have won or been nominated for several awards.
In the year, I discovered self-publishing and decided to focus on this. While I’m not a zillionaire yet, critical acclaim has been pretty good. 3 books have hit Amazon Top 100, and one even hit #1 in four kindle categories.
Love to travel. Last count was over twenty countries, eight provinces and almost thirty states.
Moved back to Vancouver where I now live. In spare time, I roast my own coffee which is therapeutic and tastes a whole lot better than Starbucks IMHO. I also zone in music by playing my 1908 Steinway Grand Piano.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading and writing as a kid. Voracious reader and wrote my first “novel” when I was twelve. Sadly, it got lost somewhere along the way. Darn. I’m sure it would have been a best-seller.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Suzanne Collins. Russell Blake. Robert Ludlum but really, I will read almost anything except porn and erotica.
I am inspired by almost anybody who writes a book, makes a film, or paints a picture. Laying your soul on the line is not easy.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
For the last year, I have been consumed by writing five books for the SHAOLIN DARKNESS series.
I love action. I love crazy, impossible situations. And I really like cool, complex, multi-dimensional characters.
I wanted to incorporate them in here. Shaolin kung fu Grandmasters. Christian missionaries. Asian Triads. Lawyers.
For example. CHIN – the bad guy. A rogue kungfu monk who arises to redefine Shaolin Kung Fu as a battle plan for his lust for criminal power. Cruelty, murder, and torture are this monk’s hallmarks.
Or our hero MICAH KEATING. Twenty-eight-years-old, movie star looks. Born to missionaries. Mentored by Shaolin. Law school in LA. Gets first job with biggest firm in Hong Kong where he falls in love with his corrupt boss’ daughter. Is he up to the task?
