Featured Interview With T.O. Paine
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I love reading as much as I love writing psychological suspense thrillers. I fell in love with books at an early age, but I was drawn in by the internet and subsequently achieved bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer information systems. I grew up in a very small town, less than 1000 people, in the middle of Idaho, USA, and moved to Colorado during the dot-com days. When I’m not reading, writing, or programming, I’m on the road, running or cycling. I am fortunate to live next to the great Rocky Mountains where I have road cycled hundreds of miles and can fly anywhere in the USA in less than four hours. This is important because it decreases the travel needed to achieve my goal of running a marathon in each of the fifty states. As of 2022, I have eighteen more to go. Wish me luck. Also, as of 2022, I have written three novels, all set for publication this year. My wife, two children, and a Boston Terrier Ogre mix named Fiona tolerate my excessive behavior, and I love them for it.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
My love of writing stemmed from an early love of reading. I sat on my father’s lap, pouring over Encyclopedia’s in the seventies. Then, I fell in love with the stories from Reader’s Digest. I thought, if someone else could send stories in about Life in the United States, why couldn’t I? Reader’s Digest never published anything I sent, but I was only seven years old at the time.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Alex Michaelides, Harlan Coben, Taylor Adams, Theresa Driscoll, Riley Sager, C.J. Tudor, and J.D. Barker are just a few of my favorite authors. I read the genre I write, suspense thrillers. I love a great twist and an emotional connection to characters in crisis. Everyone I come into contact with inspires my writing. I listen to people’s stories and ask myself, “What if things took a turn for the worse when . . . ”
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book arrives on June 10th, 2022. The Resentment is an emotionally charged thriller about anger, addiction, and redemption with more twists than a night on the town. Lauren Kaine has everything she ever wanted — a fabulous home, a shiny Lexus, a bright sixteen-year-old son, and a loving husband with a lucrative internet career. But then, a mysterious black car forced him off a bridge. He dies. Now, someone is coming after her son. Lauren’s estranged, alcoholic brother-in-law returns out of nowhere. Her past returns with him.
You’re only as sick as your secrets . . .
