Featured Interview With Sohini Dutt
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Sohini Dutt and I belong to the beautiful state of Assam, from North-East India. I was born and raised in the capital city of Guwahati and completed my schooling from Maria’s Public School. After my higher secondary, I moved to the capital city of New Delhi for my graduation in History, from Miranda House, The University of Delhi. I have always enjoyed creative pursuits, especially writing and story-telling. Back in my school days I often wrote countless poems and short stories. I was even a merit holder in the subject of literature. After the pandemic had set in, I decided to give some time to writing and develop and refine my skills. Subsequently I started blogging on WordPress, writing on a plethora of topics and issues and even poetry. Eventually I earned an international audience and my blogs were published as podcasts on several platforms including Spotify. It was until recently that I decided to publish my stories and bring them to the access of readers, I wanted people to read my work! I was interning as an editor, content curator and even a student volunteer but none of it could actually bring my potential to light. That’s when I got my very first horror-thriller titled “The Cryptic Night of December” published and to my amazement, it received an amazing response! And you can say, there has been no stopping since! I’ve published three books in a row, the latest being a novella, titled “The Ghastly Secret”.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Just as I mentioned, I knew writing was my forte ever since my teachers began praising me for my essays and answers. It all became a reality when I topped my school in English. I have been writing ever since I was 9-10 years of age and there was never a fixed genre, to be honest. At times, I’d write a murder story while at other times I’d simply pen down a short poem and keep it safe in my diary!
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
There is no single author who has been an inspiration, the count is rather too big! Similarly, there is no ‘specific’ genre I read, my choices can shift from an erotica to a romantic comedy, or even from a science fiction to a thriller! However I love the works of Paulo Coelho, Paula Hawkings, Satyajit Ray, Vikram Seth, Lee Child, Dan Brown and the list wont stop!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
As I had mentioned earlier, it is a novella titled “The Ghastly Secret”. It is that kind of a book which has almost everything that a reader looks for. The story is set in the time of the 1980s in the city of San Antonio, Texas. As many would know, Texas has always been the hub of paranormal activities and this is exactly why I chose this location, however this is not to say that the story is entirely horror based! It has suspense, horror, friendship, old-school romance and most importantly some aspects of history and crime! You can read the blurb on Amazon but I’d not want to bring out any further spoilers, ha-ha!
