Featured Interview With Sasha Preston
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Originally from Michigan, I’ve made my home in the perfectly weatherless land of Southern California. I fell in love with a boy from Orange County and never looked back.
I write women’s fiction crime capers that help you to escape your daily reality, feel a sense of excitement, and plan your next adventure – all with some humor and close friendship thrown into the mix.
They say you should write about what you know. While I still haven’t officially committed a heist, there’s nothing I love more than going on adventures with girlfriends. You can find me waking up while it’s still dark outside to write, exercise, and explore.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Ever since before I could read, I had endless stories to tell. I scribbled on pages and recounted stories to family members. This voraciousness continued throughout childhood, when I wrote creatively as soon as I could. My stories were wildly imaginative, and almost always involved girls going on adventures with each other.
That love of storytelling never left me. Now, I write women’s fiction crime capers and cozy heists with the same sense of fun, friendship, and adventure that fueled my early stories.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I love to read across genres, but I’ll always have a soft spot for a good women’s fiction crime caper, with authors like Alisha Rai and Sara Desai making me laugh as I turn the page.
When it comes to inspiration, I’m drawn to women writers who put girlfriendship, joy, and adventure at the center of their stories. Their work reminds me that you can write something witty, make your reader laugh, and provide a wild escape all in one place. That’s exactly what I aim for in my own books.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Sweetest Getaway is my debut women’s fiction, crime caper, cozy heist novel. It was pure joy to write, and my goal is to give readers the same sense of joyous escape and excitement reading it.
After ten months of excitedly, feverishly writing and editing in the early morning, on weekends, and on long walks with my cell phone where I tried not to bump into people, I finished The Sweetest Getaway.
The story follows Jennifer, a daydreamer who’s never broken a rule in her life—until her bold and fearless roommate, Nari, convinces her to take part in a money-making scheme that isn’t exactly legal. When their cover is blown, Jennifer and Nari must team up with a crew of seasoned female criminals to pull off a high-stakes heist.
What I love most about this book is the mix of comedy, camaraderie, and chaos. Jennifer’s journey from cautious good girl to daring risk-taker is heartwarming and hilarious, and the girlfriendships she forges along the way are the heart of the story. Reviewers have called it “a lively, funny, action-filled scheme” and “a gripping, girl-powered caper”—which is exactly what I hoped it would be.
If you love clever women, laugh-out-loud moments, and girlfriends who take down the bad guys, The Sweetest Getaway was written for you.
