Featured Interview With S.M Irvine
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
S.M Irvine was born and raised in the heart of Southern Africa, Somewhere deep in the country of all mysteries called Zimbabwe. With games of power and money high profile people of Zimbabwe play, making it one of the poorest countries in the world S. M Irvine never got to leave the country physically but through the fantastic worlds the unsung gods called writers created. Through the fantastic creations from Blake Pierce, Liliana Hart, Michael Lister and many more indie writers, the inspiraton came, the love of writing, creating characters, settings and the life came leading to my debut novel, Price of Poison. I stay with my siblings and I love my neighbour’s dog which I’m still trying to talk him out to let me adopt it. His name is Rufus.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing articles, short stories that featured in local newspapers and poetry that I read out to the whole school every Mondays and Fridays during the assembly period. I wrote my first short story when I was thirteen, when I was fifteen I was working on a novella that I simply printed and handed it to my friends and close family members to read. I felt that urge to publish a book professionally. I actually never stopped writing until wrote something that I felt was worth trying to publish. Now here I am with a historical fiction about Pablo Escobar.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m reading new authors everyday and I am being fascinated by their writing style, their creativity their stories, but I love writers with stories that give me the chills, the writers of crime fiction and thriller for now I’m settling with anything from Blake Pierce, Michael Lister and Jack Baum’s Tetradome Run. It’s a masterpiece that I can’t stop reading over and over again.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is my debut novel, a historical fiction story set in the beautiful land of Colombia, in the 80’s during the Pablo Escobar Era.
Juan wants Pablo Escobar to pay – Pablo has everything that makes him invincible.
His hunger for revenge sends him on a killing spree.
The obsession of wanting to see Pablo Escobar paying for the death of his wife and daughter turns Juan Martinez into a monster no one could even recognise.
S.M IRVINE’S first historical fiction novel lays bare the hidden world of how revenge based motives can turn a person into something more evil than the one he’s trying to eradicate.
Rivalry is simply created when two people misunderstand each other. Intense rivalry is when the misunderstanding turns into hatred and hatred drives one towards the path for a clap back. The itchy feeling to clap back drives one into a phase of no return where you want your rival to feel you, to submit to you and to yield. The fact is it won’t change you unless for the worst. The hunger for a vibrant clap back blinds you from reality. It might seem like the right thing, it might feel like you’re saving humanity from all possible evil but all it leads you to is a deranged personality where you will never be able to discern between the good and the bad, where you’ll never be able to choose between what’s good and what’s not. In a matter of time, that clap back turns into a more gory aspect called REVENGE. The hunger for REVENGE makes you just as bad as your rival and you’ll not see it. This is in fact a PRICELESS POISON mortals can ever possess.
