Featured Interview With Ruth Chisonari Emenike
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m Ruth Chisonari Emenike. I am 18 years old. I was raised in the country, Nigeria where I am from. As a growing child, I was always moving from state to state so I kinda grew up in a lot of places, haha. But I believe those experiences shaped me.
Currently, I still live with my family because I think I can say I’m a little girl.
No, I do not have pets for some reasons but I will, someday.
I’m a very creative person so you’re bound to see me writing, singing or diying.
I am also very lively and love to share fascinating ideas with people which usually sparks book ideas for me too!
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realised my fascination with books at age 4 where I was introduced to fairytale picture books and also Bible storybooks. At 5, I was proudly a Babysitters Club fan, constantly reading the series. That opened me up to the world of books.
And then I started writing at 11. I was super creative mentally and wanted ways to let them out so I wouldn’t forget, so that led to me writing.
Initially, I also denied when people said I had it in me to be a writer but I look back and just shak my head, lol.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Wow, this is an interesting question .
I have a lot of authors I love to read. But if there’s Kiera Cass, Marissa Meyer and Karen McManus, I’m totally hooked.
My favourite genres are mystery and thriller, comedy, dystopia, Young adult and middle grade book. These are amazing genres that draw me in all the time.
As for my inspirations, that’s a whole new thing. God inspires me, Bible characters inspire me, my family are my inspiration too. And then people like Kiera Cass just makes the writing world so lovely. I get a whole lot of inspiration from a whole lot of people.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Thank you!
My latest book is titled The Detective Therapy, which is the first book in the Gabriella and The CLARGS series.
So, it follows the journey of Llorenian twins, Gabriella and Gabriel, on their move to stay with their uncle Luke in Emerald Ville after a horrible incident that caused some major issues to Gabriella mentally.
All Gabriella wants is to hide her gifts so she doesn’t repeat history all over again, so in her new school, she’s all reserved. That really doesn’t last, she builds a beautiful bond with some students.
After a mystery pops up at school and people find her secret, she and her friends decide to solve the mystery but in the process, their personal problems surface and solving a mystery serves as therapy too.
Writing this book took over a year, mainly because I procrastinated at some point(s) but I pledge it is a story worth reading because I embedded my personal experiences where I had to go through self-discovery, building self-esteem and finding myself.
It also exposes what most kids go through silently and this is my way speaking up for them too.
