Featured Interview With Rory Church
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Minnesota and Arizona when my mother suffered from arthritis. Currently I live in the Panhandle of Florida or LA, Lower Alabama LOL. I am a cat lover and I would like to think that my cats love me as well :o). I write Romantic Suspense with a little inspiration. Often my books include issues of military and terrorism.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I am a Naval Academy graduate and first began reading heavy during my Navy summer cruise 1972 which included time off the coast of Vietnam. I didn’t start writing until nearly twenty years later – it took me twelve years to finish my first book – which was awful. I’m on book six now with two published by Black Lyon Publishing, HOME BY CHRISTMAS & HOLD ME AGAIN. Presently I can get through a 55,000 to 65,000 word manuscript in about 9 – 12 months (nearly six months of that is editing and rewriting and of course cutting, cutting and cutting). There is no replacement of learning the craft correctly – either by formal course work or by educational books and writing courses. Romance Writers of America was a great resource for me.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I enjoy Iris Johansen. John Grisham, Tony Hillerman , Nora Roberts and many more. I typically read Romantic Suspense or Adventure though I do also read non-fiction. THE DEATH OF A PRESIDENT by William Manchester was one of my favorite books. I guess I would have to say the authors who inspired me most were Alister Maclean and Tony Hillerman – great stories and great characters. I always felt very entertained while reading their stories and drawn to the characters.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
HOLD ME AGAIN is a Romantic Suspense/Adventure set during a snow-storm in the Black Hills of South Dakota where a murder investigation is just the tip of the iceberg . . .
Emergency nurse and ex-Afghan war veteran, Tracy Aspen, becomes embroiled in a murder investigation, mountain-side gun battles, and a rekindled love affair with an old high school flame.
