Featured Interview With Rod Harley
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have spent the last 20+ years working as a counseling professional, researcher, and college professor. I was born in the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas to be exact. As a child and teenager I lived in San Fransisco, New York, Miami, and of course St. Thomas. After graduating from Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas I moved to Orlando, Florida to attend the University of Central Florida and subsequently moved to the Tampa Bay area where I currently reside.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
As children my siblings and I had limited entertainment options and as such reading became our primary option. I quickly discovered that I enjoyed reading and felt a sense of accomplishment from each completed book. I initially read mostly non-fiction until the seventh grade when a friend introduced me to the Hardy Boys Mystery series which was the catalyst in developing my interest in fiction. I was fortunate to have friends who indulged my telling of “tall tales” in elementary school. However, my first attempt at putting these tall tales to paper came much later in the form of a short story while a sophomore in college.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I probably don’t have a favorite writer, however some of my favorite books are: Invisible Man, When the Wind Blows, The Coldest Winter Ever, The Catcher in the Rye, Milk in My Coffee, and The Long Walk to Freedom.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
“Love Won’t Let Me Wait” chronicles the relationship between a young business professional, his girlfriend, and the female who has been his best friend since childhood. It tells the story of what happens to these relationships when the lines between friendship, love, and trust are blurred; and dark secrets and intimate betrayals are revealed.
