Featured Interview With Robert J. Emery
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Bristol, Rhode Island, but have resided in Tampa, Florida since 1970. Since 2006 I have been writing novel under the pen name R.J. Eastwood. My first was the sci-fi epic “The Autopsy of Planet Earth (2017 publication), which won the 2017 Author’s Circle Award of Excellence, the 2018 Readers Favorite for Best Fiction, and the 2018 Book Talk Radio Book of the Year. I hope my newest novel “Midnight Black – The Purge” does as well. I’m currently working on a new novel, but at the moment the plot remains a secret.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
When I was 14 years old I began writing short stories (very short.) I had no idea that as an adult I would write screenplays and TV productions as well as produce and direct. I always wanted to write novels, but my career in films and TV kept me busy until 2006 when I gave up active film & TV production to devote full time to writing.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a lot of biographies, especially actors who I have worked with over the years. I am currently reading Steven Hawking’s last book and I also love Lee Child and Steven King.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Midnight Black – The Purge took me 13 months to complete. I wanted to take a man (in this case a DEA officer), place him in total isolation from society as the result of his brutal killing of a criminal who had perpetrated a crime against him. After 15 years he is released back into a society on the brink of disaster and finds himself embroiled in the wildest conspiracy he could have ever imagined. I also wanted to write a short novel – in this case 254 pages – and have the entire caper happen in a month. As one reviews said, “You will find yourself wanting to read this book in one sitting – I did.”
