Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Raised on Marine Corps military bases all over. Currently live deep in the forests of Trinity County, California (Hayfork). Dog, cats, horse, desert tortoises.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Age 9, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Read histories, biographies, then fiction. Started writing over 30 years ago (I am 75).
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Tolstoy, Dickens, Steinbeck, Dostoevsky, Hugo, George Eliot, Wolff, Morrison, Hardy, list is endless. Favorite genre is mixed: literary, sci fi, history, biography. All of the above, probably Tolstoy the most.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Stillness Series is a 10 book epic journey about the eventual extinction of the human race in favor of a superior, more empathetic species (think Neanderthal subsumed by Homo sapiens). First book in the series is: Stirring the Stillness Part 1, Voices of Quest. Has taken over 30 years to write the series. Not a great fan of what the human race is doing to themselves and to the planet as a whole. The series deals with deep philosophical and psychological questions: what would the first few individuals of a superior new species think when surrounded by the dominent, less empathetic/intelligent species? What would the dominent species think of those first superior individuals? Of course, they (we) would think them mad.
