Featured Interview With Richard A Lester
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I have lived in Memphis, TN my whole life. In fact, I’ve even lived in the same zip code! It’s so centrally located, living here makes it easy to travel around the country.
I have two dogs, Ayden and Bryson. I also have a cat, Angeline.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can remember reading from a very young age. During recess at school, I would find a corner to hide out in and read. The other boys would be playing soccer, and I would have my head buried in a book!
I started writing short stories in elementary school. I loved horror and science fiction, so most of my stories were Stephen Kind rip offs. I began writing seriously about 12 years ago. I actually wrote scripts and made independent films for years before writing my first novel.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I read a lot of nonfiction. I am fascinated by the world, history, and how we got to where we are now. As far as fiction goes, I still read Stephen King. I also like Donal Ray Pollock and Carl Hiaasen a lot. I like anything with engaging characters and a unique story.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book, The Check Out, is about a group of low lifes that work at a failing grocery store. They each get caught up in crazy circumstances that leave them desperate for money. Low and behold, the store announces a $10,000 cash prize giveaway. Each of the characters decides to break into the store and steal the money on the same night. It’s a wild book full of humor and thrills. It’s also got a lot of heart to it, too.
