Featured Interview With R. Patrick Bermel
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am a newly self-published author. My first book, ”Two Worlds, One Love: Greylin Wolfe – Book One” was published on Amazon a month ago. I was raised in Texas, where I still live and write. I have a cat named Tabatha that is an excellent writing buddy. My book is the first in a Fantasy Romance series geared towards Teens. This being said, I often choose my books from the Teen Fiction section and know that people of all ages will enjoy the adventure. Fans of Harry Potter and Mortal Instruments will be sure to find it right up their alley.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I began reading at a very young age but didn’t truly fall in love with it until the first Harry Potter book. That was the series that really cemented by love for reading and writing. I began writing seriously in college but was always excited at any opportunity for creative writing in High School.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genre is Teen Fantasy. My all time favorite writers are J.K. Rowling, Ernest Cline, and Kevin Hearne. I feel that every author that I have ever read has in someway influenced my writing.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
”Two Worlds, One Love: Greylin Wolfe – Book One” took me several years to write only because I was working full time and very busy. Once I became serious about finishing it, the pages flew by. The one thing I knew for sure when I sat down to write it was that I wanted it to be fun and enjoyable to read. Of course there can’t be a story without conflict but I wanted the reader to fall into another world and really want to be there for a while. The book follows the protagonist, Greylin Wolfe as he is torn from his average teenage life on Earth and thrown into another world in which magic exists. The new world is magical indeed but is also on the brink of war. In order to help save it, he goes to magic school where he meets a fire elf named Chance. Needless to say, she catches his eye and their dynamic is a big part of the book.
