Featured Interview With Pemry Janes
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I live in the Netherlands, grew up on a farm for the first 8 years of my life. When we moved out to the town I still live in now, I got two turtles from my parents. They’re red-eared sliders, one of them is still with me. He’s not alone though, I rescued two others and those have kept him company for over twenty years now.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I got my fascination for reading real early thanks to my father. He had and still has, shelves and shelves of books. I started reading them when I was young and only years after did I go to the library to get more books.
Writing took me longer. I actually came into that through fanfiction. That opened my eyes, that writing was something a lot of people did. Silly in hindsight, I know.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genres are fantasy and science fiction, if we are talking fiction. But I also read a lot of non-fiction about historical subjects.
As for favorite authors, got to go with Robert Jordan if we’re talking fantasy. With science fiction, I’m torn between David Weber or Jack Campbell.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Living Sword 2 – The Road Ahead took me a lot longer to write than I planned; several years more. The ending especially, I just wasn’t sure I could do my vision justice. But I think I succeeded in the end and the book is better for the extra time it took.
The story is about Eurik and Leraine and their growing friendship. Eurik is looking to find out who his parents were. Leraine has to bring home the news that her teacher, a woman that made her the warrior she is, died.
It’s not a safe journey, they’re traveling through some rough country with people that are rough themselves. And there’s a war brewing right in their path.
If you want to know more, you’ll have to read the book.
