Paul9Featured Interview With Paul Zunckel

Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in 1957, in a small country in Africa called Rhodesia. From there my family moved to Zambia, and finally found their way to South Africa where I now reside. I live in the seaside town of Margate, found in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
I love playing the guitar, and writing my own music.
I am married to a wonderful woman who supports me in every way possible, and over and above her support I have the loving support of my two dogs, who lie at my feet when I write, and will not move until I take a break.
My dream in life was to study medicine, but life got in the way, and it was something that I never realized.
I have two wonderful children, both out the house and spreading their wings, they both make me very proud.

At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always been fascinated with books, and my very first full collection was the works by Edgar Rice Burroughs which was his Tarzan series. Books have always been able to transport me to another world, and that is what I try and do for my readers.
I only started writing in 2014, and that was only at the insistence of my wife who challenged me to put a story idea I had on paper, so I sat down, thinking that it would be a two or three pager for a local magazine, but I was so wrong… twelve days and many many hours later, Blood Moon Over Africa was born, and since then the ideas just flow.
The only way that I can try and describe it is as if a tap has been opened, and since then Blood Spoor in the Dark and Blood Demon – Revenge have all been completed and put into a Trilogy called The Blood Trilogy.
I get told, you need to take a break, but one day later I find myself back on the keyboard and Devil in Eden is eating up the pages, and then Man in the Shadows drops by and scares the heck out of everyone.
My wife reckoned she needed to sleep with one eye open.

Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite authors were Stephen King, Dean Koontz, David Morrell,John Grisham and David Patterson, but sadly, I just don’t seem to have the time to read anymore…to busy writing my seventh novel.
I enjoy a good Thriller, something with suspense, and drama. I also enjoy a good horror story.
My wife and family inspire me in my writing as well as the few fans that I have out there, who take the time to contact me, and blow me out the water with their reviews, and encouragement.

Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book is titled “Whispers in the Wind”, and I have been reconnected with the characters from The Blood Trilogy and Devil in Eden. The book deals with the evil of human trafficking, and abduction.

Step into the evil world of Human Trafficking, a family torn apart by abduction, a child taken to serve as High Priestess for an African Cult, her Mother sold into slavery, and the world of sex trade where nothing is as it seems, and it is all about greed.

Corrupt officials, unemployment, poverty, and power all thrown into the mix with a touch of erotica to steam up the windows.
The search for the child and woman moves from the wilds of Zambia, to the bright lights of Johannesburg, South Africa.

Join Piet van Zyl and Veronica Strydom in their search for Debi, but be warned, Veronica finds something else that she has not been looking for.

Follow Henri Le Vee, Special Agent into the sleazy world of abduction and sex trade, where he joins forces with an undercover agent who strips to get what she wants, and she has Henri in her sights.
Join Adele on her journey into slavery, her misery, her fears and her sexual awakening, as she’s thrown head first into terror and must use whatever she has to survive, if she is to ever see her family again.

This is a story that will take you and shake you, make you laugh, and bring tears to your eyes, the suspense will keep you turning the pages, the thrills will make you want more, but most of all, Whispers in the Wind will entertain you until the last page.

If I may be so bold, here is a quote from a reviewer regarding Whispers.

Whispers in the Wind
“I LOVE this book so far. I’m not done yet, but This might be the best of the stories in the Blood moon series Mr. Zunckel has wrote thus far. I highly recommend grabbing this book while you can!!” — Mar 21, 2015
