Featured Interview With Patty Seitz
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m from Akron, Ohio, now live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was a medical transcriptionist for 37 years, writing professional articles and newsletters throughout my career. When the school closed where I was teaching, I decided to pursue full-time writing and published my first novel in May of 2014 and now working on my second novel, target date February 2015. My husband and I are dog people, rescuing dogs whenever we can. My genre (at least for these first 3 books) is family saga, romance.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I developed a love of reading around 8 years old when my grandmother gave me Little Women. I still have it, signed by her. Also Nancy Drew was a favorite. I started writing during my professional career as a medical transcriptionist, and I started my novel writing in 2013.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I don’t have a specific favorite author. I love all types of genre, from mystery and thriller to old-fashioned romance. I love a story that spans several generations. I also enjoy reading biographies of historical figures and old-time actors, such as Bette Davis, Clifton Webb, stars from the 30s and 40s. I’ll admit it–I’m a Potter and Twilight fan, too!
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My first book, A Life Unplanned, is based on the life of my mother. She had a secret she took with her to her grave that her children found out about after her death. Her death was also a heartbeaking mystery that will never be solved. She was a single parent in the 1950s and 60s when it was practically taboo to say you were a single parent. She went through many difficulties during her life, but got through it all with grace, humor, and strength. The characters are fictionalized, but the events are real.

Your first book sounds interesting, as I’m sure your mother was. Have you tried to solve the mystery of your mother’s death. That might be another book. Good luck with your writing.
Hi James, thanks so much for your comment. Unfortunately, we will never really know what happened to my mom. She was home alone when she died, and we know basically what happened, but not how or why it did. There is no way to tell if it was a medical issue, just a terrible accident, or a bit of both. But the family saga does continue, as my second book is about her parents and grandparents, and the third will be about me and my husband, since we have had quite a lot happen in our married life together, things not even my family knows about. Thanks again for posting!
