Featured Interview With Patrick G Moloney
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised and live in the beautiful town of Killaloe, Co Clare, Ireland. Killaloe nestles amongst green hills on the banks of the majestic river Shannon just a mile down stream of the the mighty lough Derg, largest of the three lakes on the Shannon system. My childhood was spent fishing and swimming in the river and lake. Those childhood past times have instilled a life long love of rivers and lakes and I could never imagine not living by fresh water. I am married to Elizabeth for the last thirty two years. We have two sons Edward and Craig and a cat called babe who thinks she owns the house.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
The first book I ever remember reading was a dog eared hard backed copy of Grimm’s fairy tales. I suffered regular bouts of tonsillitis as a child so when I was laid up this book was my constant companion. The tales of witches and spells and enchanted forests carried me away to another dimension and I loved it. I started writing a number of years back and would write stories long hand in A4 pads. But it was only last year that I actually published my first novel ” Dark Web” I have published my second novel this year ” A Loss of Youth”. I have two projects on the go at the moment my third novel and a short story, both of these are in the horror genre.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am always on the look out for new and interesting authors lately I finished my first book by Bryan Smith called Depraved and I really liked it. He writes in the style of Edward Lee another author I admire. Among my long time favorites are John Connolly, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Clive Barker and Sven Hassel. The latter wrote a series of books on his experiences in the German army on the eastern front during world war 2. My favorite genre would Horror/Supernatural. What inspires me most to write is boredom, I tend to have an over active mind and boredom is a constant adversary .
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest novel called A Loss of Youth is I suppose what you could call a supernatural detective story. In this story I have attempted to explore the darkness that can dwell inside us all. It is a story of love lost, betrayal and the search for redemption. It takes us on a trip into the shadows where darker things exist. The protagonist of the book is a burned out former detective Joe “Spider” Bannion. A man who immersed himself in the evil streets until it corrupted his very soul. A man who betrayed all that he once held dear. He has rubbed shoulders with evil for so long it has tainted him and now every thing he touches turns to ashes. Joe has allowed his life to hurtle out of control in a downward spiral and the resulting crash will consume all those who loved him. In the end he exists in a twilight world between the living and the dead where his only companions are the ghosts of his past. Joe is now about to find out that what goes around comes around. The betrayer often becomes the betrayed and the road to redemption is a hard path to follow.
