Featured Interview With Nikolay Yordanov
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I am from Bulgaria – that’s in Southeast Europe 🙂 I live in the capital, making local adaptations of TV shows such as “The Voice”, “Fear Factor”, “Hollywood Game Night”, “Got Talent” to name a few. I am also lecturer in the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I read books from very, very young age. I never meant to be a writer, it just happened. I wrote a biography of a very interesting woman, sentenced to death in Libya in the 00’s. It is called “Notes from Hell”. I like the process and I said – ok, that’s interesting and easy, so let’s write another. Nine years and 600 pages later I don’t think it’s easy but I still think it’s fun.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am interested in most of the genres, because it’s about the quality of the text, not of the genre. I adore the strange narrative of Márquez or Allende, I love the worlds of Tolkien or Martin, I like the Stephen King’s horror and so on. But if I don’t like a book by it’s first 80-100 pages I am choosing another one.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It is called “Don’t Tell Mama”. It’s the most unusual LGBT-themed book, I promise you. It’s like adventure-magical realism-love story. Ten people in eight countries have common secret – their sexuality, and find themselves inextricably linked. I hope it will inspire every reader, regardless of their sexual orientation.
