Featured Interview With Marie Allred
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was raised in Houston, Texas. Now I am preparing to move to Provo, Utah and get a chance to do some awesome things we don’t get around to much in the south. I’m ready to climb some mountains, go skiing, and buy some huckleberry ice cream. I have two adorable dogs, two beautiful little sisters, a handsome little brother, and wonderful parents.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I’ve been facsinated with books for as long as I can remember, and certainly almost as long as I’ve been alive. When I was a little girl my father would read aloud to me and my sisters and tell stories at bedtime. During the day I begged my mother to read me books an upwards of 5-10 times a day. I wrote books and stories in my little girl handwriting from the time I was five-years-old and I haven’t stopped since then.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
My favorite genres to read are sci-fi and fantasy especially by authors like Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, Patrick Rothfuss and others though I also have a passion for poetry and have been inspired by poets like Rupi Kaur, Nikita Gill, Amanda Lovelace and others like them.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book entitled What I Can’t Say is about my experience as a young girl with mental health issues specifically severe clinical depression and anxiety. It’s a full size collection of poetry that touches on several defining events in my life and the effects they produced. This collection is for anyone who wants to take a look into what it’s really like to battle mental illness, get a fresh perspective on it or who needs comfort in their own poetic struggles.
