Featured Interview With Manjithe Senanayake
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’m Manjithe Senanayake, a 14 year old Sri Lankan writer and a poet. I’m living in Galle, Sri Lanka. I have no special pets but I give food daily to the street dogs around. So, they can be taken as my pets too.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I realized my fascination with books when I was 6 years old. I started reading newspapers when I was 5 years old. Because of newspapers I started reading picture books and books with less than 50 pages at first. I started writing books when I was 8 years old. Many of the stories I wrote on that age was based on cartoon characters. Eventually I started writing picture books and now I’m writing middle grade books.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
David Walliams, Roald Dahl, Prashani Rambukwella and Tissa Abeysekara are some of my favorite authors. I don’t have a one favorite genre. I like to read books in variety of genres so they have different tastes. Above mentioned authors inspired me on writing. Specially Tissa Abeysekara’s books full of descriptions and David Walliams’s, Roald Dahl’s books full of imagination.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My latest book, The Kite : Face Challenges Strongly is out now. It is a children’s short story written by me taking a real life instance I faced as a example. Also my next books will be published on late December or January (2022)
