Featured Interview With Lillian and Dave Brummet
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My husband and I met and married almost 30 years ago and currently reside in our dream location of the Kootenay region of BC Canada. In the last 10 years we have been busy transforming the home to a more eco-friendly one and converting the property from a rental-like yard to a beautiful garden oasis. Our business, BrummetMedia.ca, acts like an umbrella where we offer a host of services, products and books. Besides gardening and the realm of writing/reading, I have a huge passion for rescued pets and love hosting doggie play dates or puppy sitting while neighbours and friends are travelling. We currently share our home with 2 dogs and a cat… Skyla is 12 and may not be around much longer, sadly, Duchess is not too far behind Skyla in age… Korma kitty is just 6 years old. The dogs love to hang out on the deck and they adore their park-like yard and gardens.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was a writer long before I knew it. My mom was a regular at libraries and I could often be found in tow carrying my own stack of books. My first story brought a teacher to tears as she read it out to the class and I was taken back by the attention and the effect it had. It kinda scared me, actually. Later on I found solace in poetry, expressing the hidden pain from the childhood trauma and youthful angst… and when that poetry was accepted and celebrated, I realized that hey – maybe there’s something to this writing thing. It wasn’t until a car accident woke me up to the disappointing tragedy of my life that I became committed to making a difference, to giving back, to have meaning in my life and to give some reason to my existence. Thus, the writing in the genres I have chosen – poetry, living “green”, eco-farming/gardening, and the arts.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
To get away from life and explore new imaginations, I will dive into fiction and relish every word. To understand self and expand compassion, I turn to poetry. However, I’m big on learning… it turns me on… so at least half of my shelves at home have non-fiction titles.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Dave and I have collaborated on 6 published books and one coming up soon. The latest publication is a collection of our poetry… Dave has his own section in the book – called Rhythm and Rhyme – here you can see our individual poetry writing styles and find us expressing passions for nature, love, animals, music and real life experiences including the loss of family members.
