Featured Interview With Leslie M Jasper
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Coos Bay, Oregon. I left home after high school and joined the U.S. Navy and became a construction electrician. I married and left the service and came to New York. I became a union electrician back in 1995. I split my time between New York and Connecticut these days. I have 2 Jack Russells, Daisy and Otis, and a Siamese, named Bootsie.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have always loved to read since I was a kid. It is like a magical world where the sky is the limit where your imagination can take you. I started writing as a young woman in high school. I then did some in college. It wasn’t until the recession in 2008 that I started writing my first book. Now I am hooked and thinking about the next 2-3 projects.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I am a horror bufff so love to read and watch what Stephen King puts together. I used to love to read the stories as a teen from V.C. Andrews. I am not sure who exactly inspires my writing these days. I think I will just pave my way and wait for a few readers to match me with someone.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I started my electrical career, at 17 years old, in the U.S. Navy as a construction electrician in the Seabees. I have been a union electrician for the past 20 years. For the past two years, I got the opportunity to transition into the office and train to become a CAD operator and an electrical engineer. I am also working closely with my project manager learning those tasks as well. I work within the five bouroughs of New York City, Westchester County, and Fairfield County in Connecticut. During a stint of massive unemployment, I decided to cover what it was like working in a male-dominated field. I covered jobsite experiences within the first five years of my apprenticeship. I did cover a year or two of being a fresh journeywoman. I give readers encounters with my crazy co-workers and snapshots of my personal challenges along the way.
