Featured Interview With Leonnard Ojwang
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up in a small village in Kenya with no electricity or potable water. There, I felt closer and more deeply connected to nature around me every day. So I spent most of my days outdoors, interacting with nature. I had fun doing all that.
My childhood experiences significantly shaped my outlook on life. In fact, attending a boarding high school transformed the teenage voice inside of me. I found myself trapped in nothing less than a passion for writing. That’s why all of my writing share one thing: authenticity.
Upon relocating to the US, I began writing extensively on many topics, rendering each in thoughtful meditations intended to help the reader engage, visualize, and feel involved in every word.
Through writing, I share many of my feelings, thoughts, and experiences that would otherwise have remained unsaid. Mostly, I write in the first person so that all you can do is say, “I can relate.”
Currently, I have three books published: (1) Bullet with My Name (Thriller/Fiction), (2) They Walk Among Us (Thriller/Fiction), and (3) MY UNTOLD: PORTRAIT OF A LIVED LIFE (Poetry).
I hope at least one of my books or poems will help you appreciate your own experiences or excite you into living in the present–and, in doing so, bring you joy, inspire you into action for a greater cause, or make you curious about nature and humanity.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started writing at 13 yrs of age. At the time, I was writing short stories and essays to entertain classmates. Then I began reading James Hardley Chase books and then I thought I got inspired to start writing full length stories. When I was in college, I had my first manuscript completed, and it was all handwritten in over ten 200-page exercise books. Hey, I didn’t have a computer. So upon relocating to the US, my first excitement was to buy a computer and type my book. But I didn’t have the money, so I used the computer in the lab every weekend until I got all the handwritten manuscripts typed. I haven’t stopped writing since then.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Sidney Sheldon
James Hardley Chase
Dean Koontz
I like Fiction/Thrillers and I’m mostly inspired by the work of R. Ludlum and D. Koontz.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I just published THEY WALK AMONG US.
Synopsis: Fearless faceless men have killed dozens of strippers, including Special Agent Denali’s sister, for body parts. Weeks of intense investigations and search for answers plunges him into the middle of a dark underworld of strippers, drug addicts and clandestine gangs. The crimes are so heinous he completely devotes his life to an afterthought as he confronts one of the grisly cases in the history of the bureau. To find justice for his sister, he’ll create his own rules and stop at nothing—including murder—and be bound to no law, but the law of the gun.
