Featured Interview With KJ Backford
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I grew up living in many places around the world. After graduate degrees and a rewarding career in Silicon Valley, I now focus on writing. I strive to combine real-world experience and knowledge to create inspiring characters within interesting, intricate thrillers and mysteries. I do have a Tuxedo Cat that likes to sit on my keyboard when I work. 🙁
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
Early, during high school, I had a teacher in English Lit. that encouraged me to write essays. When I went into the corporate world I had to write contracts and sales docs. Required some talent. So only now, after early retirement do I write full time.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I like to read David Ignatius books lately. I enjoy my own genre – espionage.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
I write espionage thrillers, and my character Alex, the CIA officer, came to mind. I wanted to place him in the largest war the world has seen since WWII. It took me a year, and I kept thinking the war would be over and the timeliness of the story would end. But it did not, and I’m terrified about that. If you read the book you will see how close we are to a nuclear disaster. Here it the beginning:
“It all starts with a whisper. A traitor inside the Ukrainian General Staff tipped off the Russians: Ukraine had prior knowledge of Moscow’s war plans. Now the noose tightens, and Alex must do the impossible – unmask the traitor before the Russians can neutralize his asset.”
