Featured Interview With Kira Seamon
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Hawaii! I live in the Boston area now and I have a couple of turtles as pets. Back at my childhood home in Hawaii, I used to have bunnies, parakeets, turtles, a cat, a basset hound, a freshwater fish tank, and a saltwater fish tank, complete with a moray eel, boxfish, pufferfish and fairy shrimp.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have adorable photos of me high up in tree branches reading books! I was a real climber when I was a kid and I loved to climb our trees and lose myself in books. I would say I started a fascination with books by about age five. I have kept a daily journal since my teens.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Anne Rice, Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, Thomas Hardy.
I do love cozy mysteries, biographies, romance, travel books.
I was extremely inspired by The Writer’s Journey, by Christopher Vogler. The 12 stages of the hero’s journey are not only great phases to have your main character go through, but I found my own life journey drew on many of those stages as well. I was particularly impressed and inspired by his personal story at the end of the book. He says, “trust the story”, and as an author, going through a long five-year journey to bring my book into being, this was the one thing I kept holding onto with both hands. I trusted the story and allowed it to lead me to all the different members of my team and in all the right time frames that I was meant to meet them.
