Featured Interview With Kathryn Cervera
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
My name is Kathryn, and I am an Indie Author of the YA novel, Who Is It? I was raised in Cibolo and now live in San Antonio, TX with my husband. I enjoy reading and cooking, singing and dancing.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I was probably 5 when I became fascinated with books, both reading and writing. I knew I wanted to be a writer then. My family had bought a computer. I thought it was cool to see the blank black screens with the orange blinking cursor, waiting to be filled up with words. I was 8 when I started writing- poetry, short stories. I was thirteen when I wrote the handwritten rough draft of Who Is It?
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Stephen King is probably my favorite author. I relate to him as a writer and the writing process to write a novel. He writes to the readers what inspired each novel and what was going on at the time when he wrote it. I enjoy almost all genres, as long as it’s a good story. My inspiration comes from everywhere. It could be something I see or hear, or even something that happens to me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Fourteen-year-old John Dolton seems to have it all. The tall, handsome captain of the Rorertown High School basketball team has killer looks, a three-point shot, and now his dream girl—Lisa. But one-night changes everything.
Filled with romance and teen humor, Kathryn Cervera’s young adult social issues novel is a fascinating read for high school students everywhere and will resonate with any teen parent.
I’m adopted and my birth mom had me when she was 15. One day, I thought what would have happened had she decided to keep me. This is what inspired Who Is It? But I really wanted to show the daughter’s point of view, not just the parents’ struggle.
My friend read it and asked what happens next? I’m working on the sequel. This will be a series. It took my 25 years to get published.
