Featured Interview With Jennifer Penrose
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born in Iowa but raised in Indiana, which is where I currently reside with my husband and two young adult sons. We have 3 cats and 1 snake. I attend and work at the church near my home, along with writing. Primarily, I have been working on books geared towards young children.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I have been a huge reader as long as I can remember. Nancy Drew books were my favorite growing up. I had written some things in middle school. In high school, I wrote quite a bit of poetry. Writing was an outlet for me at times. I liked to journal thoughts and feelings, which would sometimes lead to writing a poem or short story.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Lori Wick is one of my favorite authors. I also really enjoy Jane Austen. I love the way Lori writes a book that is entertaining but talks about God. That is the kind of writer I want to be. I want my books to have a message.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
My book is called I Am God Breathed. My book follows a little boy and all of his big feelings. My book is designed to help young children breathe through their emotions just as God breathed into us. We do not need to shove our emotions down. Emotions are a normal thing. I also want children to know that no matter what God loves us unconditionally. Once the idea came to me for this book, I think I wrote it in about a week. I saw a lot of kids struggling, especially at school where I used to work.
